Vengeance at nightfall
chapter 45 Pyrite

Nightshade waited for hours for Pyrite’s arrival, she had wrapped herself up in her blanket and looked through her papers, trying to focus on her work rather than what she had done. The sight of blood on her hind hooves caught her off guard when she landed, she had always seen blood, but changeling blood was green and a lot thicker than pony or griffin blood. She had only seen it a couple times, and only had the misfortune of being covered in it once. It was hard to wash out and the scent of whatever love it still held attracted changelings for a couple days, she hoped Metamorph wouldn't smell it when he got back. While she worked Pyrite flew in, and stopped in mid air when he saw her.
“Nightshade, I don't want to seem rude by saying this, and I love seeing you, but what are you doing in my cave?”
Nightshade put the pages down, and held them in place with a hoof as he hovered above her, before speaking to him.
“I need somewhere else to stay for a few days, I did something terrible with a breeding changeling that Chrysalis sent to please me, and now….and n-now,”
Her voice cracked slightly and she furrowed her brow, trying her hardest not to cry, and Pyrite quickly landed and pulled her closer to him. Instinctively, she hugged him the best she could with her small size, clinging to him like her life depended on it.
“what happened exactly? I know it must have been devastating but I can't help if I don't know what happened to make you this way.”
Nightshade let go of him and sat back, and began to tell him what had happened, every detail she could think of, she told him.
Pyrite listened intently, and quickly understood her distress. Being forced to comply and mess around with a changeling that wasn't her mate, and then being followed by him, the worst part seemed to be the most recent event; Nightshade began to tear up when it came to explaining what had happened.
“wow, I'm so sorry you had to do that, but if I know anything, and I do know a lot, maybe he won't try to attack you again if you're with a dragon,”
Nightshade wiped away the tear tracks on her cheeks and looked up at him, he had a heartwarming yet silly smile on his face. She began to smile as well, although she tried not to laugh at it.
“I think, that would be a good idea, but you'd have to be with me almost all the time until Morphy comes back. And I don't know if you'd want to do something like that, especially for a pony as troublesome as myself,”
She looked down at her hooves, and after a few seconds, felt Pyrite petting her head.
“I'll be able to go back to this cave as soon as I know you're safe, and that is a risk allies like myself are willing to take,”
She smiled and reared up to hug him, it was comforting to know that he was there for her, and when he hugged her back she felt the familiar warmth that reminded her of being safe.
