Persona EG: Pursuing My True Self
Mon 8/29
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt felt as if she was watching a movie but she was the one who actually experiencing this moment. She was moving on her own, towards a large blue door. As she approached, the door opened by itself and Twilight was engulfed in a white light.
Upon entering, she was treated to a scene she never expected. The room was large and there was light reflecting from the ceiling. In simple terms, it was like walking into a club but there were only two other people inside besides her.
One was an older man, shorter than her with white hair and a rather long nose. The other was a woman who wore a blue cardigan with yellow trim and a long skirt to match. Her yellow eyes were quite distracting too.
“Welcome to the Velvet Room,” the man said. “It has been a long time since we had ourselves a guest. My name is Igor and I have invited you here. This is the realm between dreams and reality, the conscious and unconscious. You are here because you have recently been awakened to a new kind of power.”
“What kind of power?” Twilight asked.
“It may seem confusing at first,” Igor chuckled. “But in time you will understand. I'd also like to introduce you to my assistant Clara. She and I both will be providing you assistance in the near future.”
“A pleasure to meet you,” Clara said. Her tone almost seemed monotone but her smile made it clear her words were genuine.
“Unfortunately I believe our time is up for now,” Igor said. “Soon you will discover your power and when that time comes we will meet again. Until then, I bid you farewell…”
Morning
At around six o’clock, Twilight's alarm went off and she was quick to wake up. School started today at CHS. She got up and took a quick shower. Unlike Crystal Prep, Canterlot High didn't have a dress code so she no longer needed her uniform. She also didn't have to have her hair up in a bun so she decided for now to keep it down.
Once she was dressed and had her things she went to the kitchen and got out a box of cereal. Cadance had already left to go back to the city and Shining was currently taking a shower himself. She then sat on the couch where bowl and turned on the TV. It had apparently been raining here the past couple of days but it would be clear today and throughout the week with a fog advisory mentioned for tonight.
Once it got close to seven, Shining finally came into the kitchen. “Morning,” he yawned. “Must feel weird not having to wear a uniform huh?”
“Yeah, you kinda get used to it,” Twilight said. “I think I'm going to leave early this morning so I can get a feel of the school before classes start.”
“Alright, well have fun,” Shining said as he made toast. “Oh and make sure none of the guys hit on you.”
Twilight rolled her eyes. “Sure thing...but if you can take Spike for a walk in the morning I'd appreciate it. Oh, and he really likes the colorful kibble, whatever it's called. But he pretty much eats anything.”
“Great, reduced to dogsitting,” Shining said sarcastically. “Oh well, have a good first day!”
It was only about a fifteen minute walk to the school, which was good since Twilight's bag was rather heavy but this was nothing new to her. As she always believed, it's always good to be prepared, especially on the first day. While she was not one of them, there had been plenty of students at Crystal Prep who had been chewed out for merely not having enough pencils.
Once she got to the school, Twilight was relieved she wasn't the only one there. Many other students were arriving and heading to their lockers. Luckily she had gotten her room and locker assignments the week before.
Once she found her locker, she put in the combination and tried to open the door but it didn't budge. She had the combination memorized so she tried it again, going a little slower to match the numbers just right. It still wouldn't budge.
“Oh come on!” Twilight tried brute force but that accomplished nothing. “Not on the first day!”
“Ya having trouble there sugarcube?” Twilight looked over and saw a girl with blonde hair, freckles, and a cowboy hat standing behind her.
She smiled embarrassedly. “Oh it's...just my locker. Not opening for some reason.”
The girl chuckled. “Ya must be new here. These lockers are kind of funky sometimes and ya have to mess with them a bit.” She went up to the locker and pounded the door just above where the combination lock was and the locker rattled open. “See? Nothing to it.”
“Thank you,” Twilight said. “And you're right, I am a new student. I'm Twilight Sparkle.”
“Name's Applejack, pleasure to meet ya.” She definitely had a firm handshake. “Mind if Ah ask what homeroom you're in?”
“Let's see…” Twilight opened her bag and took out the form she had been given. “Room 202, with Miss Cheerilee.”
“Me too. Guess that makes us classmates,” Applejack grinned. “Since you're new, I can introduce ya to my other friends, that way you don't have to feel lonely these first couple of days.”
“I really appreciate that.” Once she got her things together, the two of them headed down the hallway. “If you don't mind me asking, are the students here pretty friendly?”
“Uh...well Ah would say so for the most part,” Applejack replied. “Ah’m guessing your former school was kinda rough?”
“That's an understatement.” “You could say that.”
Once they reached Room 202, Applejack looked at her watch. “If you're 202, one of my friends is in the same class as us. Ah gotta warn ya though she can be a little...random.”
“Random?”
“You'll find-” Unfortunately Applejack never quite finished the sentence as suddenly an air horn blew in Twilight's ear. She never knew she could jump so high.
“FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!” The girl screaming at the top of her lungs had pink hair all over the place.
“Pinkie...really?” Applejack asked. “Yer gonna traumatize the poor girl. Anyway, Twilight this is Pinkie Pie. Pinkie-”
“Ooh ooh let me guess! You're Twilight Sparkle and you moved out here from the city and transferred from Crystal Prep because your parents are out of the country!”
There was an awkward silence. “H-How did you!?” Twilight stammered.
“Just a lucky guess,” Pinkie beamed. Twilight didn't buy that one bit but she let it go now.
“That's just Pinkie being Pinkie, even Ah don't get her,” Applejack said. “But uh... you're from Crystal Prep.”
“Yeah…” As popular as it was as a school, it wasn't very much liked by students from other schools.
“Most people Ah know wouldn't ever transfer from there if they ever got in. But Ah guess you had yer reasons. Don't worry, we don't judge here.”
“Unless you don't like snickerdoodles...then I'll judge you harshly,” Pinkie Pie said with a serious look. “...Just kidding! Everyone likes snickerdoodles!”
“Well, we better claim our seats if we wanna sit together,” Applejack said. “Don't worry, you'll get to meet the others during lunch.”
Twilight had a feeling this was going to be an interesting day.
Once class started, Miss Cheerilee was quick to introduce the new student to everyone. “Now I'm sure everyone here at CHS will give Twilight a warm welcome as she adjusts to her new surroundings. Now where to have you sit…”
“Ooh me pick me!” As luck would have it, Pinkie Pie had an empty seat.
“Well since Miss Pie insists you can sit next to her,” Cheerilee said. She continued as Twilight sat down. “Now since this is a composition class, you'll be expected to do a lot of writing but even more importantly you'll need to know what to say, how to say it, and where to put it in your writing. Therefore…”
The rest of the morning classes continued on until the clock reached noon and everyone, some desperately, made their way towards the cafeteria.
Lunchtime
Twilight remembered the food at Crystal Prep being fresh in quality and expensive at the same time. Not to mention they completely banned snacks such as swiss rolls and zebra cakes. Canterlot High seemed much more liberal when it came to food. Judging by how good the Mac n’ Cheese looked, Twilight didn't have to worry much about compromising.
Applejack and Pinkie led her to a table where three other girls were sitting. One was currently reading a sports magazine, one was daintily eating a packed lunch, and the other was currently sneaking her carrots into a bag. “Howdy girls, hope ya don't mind if we an extra guest sit with us.”
“Sup?” Magazine girl said. She has prismatic hair and blue skin.
“Um...hello.” Carrot girl had pink hair and yellow skin.
“Oh you must be the new girl! Twilight right? A pleasure to meet you!” At least Dainty girl was quite polite.
“That's Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity,” Pinkie said, introducing them all.
“It's nice to meet you all,” Twilight smiled as she sat down next to Rarity. “You all are already much more welcoming than any of the students at my old school.”
“Well no offense but most people at Crystal Prep can be a bunch of jackasses,” Rainbow said. She then got a glare from Applejack. “What, I said most.”
“Oh...so people already know,” Twilight said, looking down.
“Oh darling, you may be from there but you're certainly more friendly than any we've met from there,” Rarity said, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. “And as I'm sure Applejack told you, anyone is welcome at CHS.”
“So do you know what activities you're going to do here?” Fluttershy asked as they all kept eating.
“I haven't decided... I'm not even sure what's still open,” Twilight replied.
“Soccer team's still open,” Rainbow grinned.
Twilight had a hard time imagining she could even run that much. “Um... probably not that.”
“You can probably guess who's the sports star of our group,” Applejack said.
“Hmm... judging by your figure I'd say you could be a swimmer...or maybe field hockey?” Rarity suggested. “Fluttershy is on the archery time.”
“Well...we wouldn't mind having an extra member,” Fluttershy smiled.
“Or maybe tennis?” Pinkie asked. “But there are other extracurricular activities too like Student Council, Home Ec, Drama Club, Art Club…”
“M-Maybe I'll sleep on it,” Twilight said. “I guess I could use the exercise at least…”
“So... anyone hear that rumor going around?” Rainbow asked.
“Rainbow, there's at least a dozen going around every week,” Rarity pointed out.
“Okay let me rephrase it: has anyone heard about the Midnight Mirror trick?”
“Midnight Mirror?” Twilight asked.
Rainbow grinned as she leaned closer and spoke in an ominous voice. “They say if you wait til midnight, and have all your lights off of course, if you go to the mirror you-”
“Wait a minute isn't this that Bloody Mary game?” Applejack asked.
“No, and don't interrupt. Anyway, you go up to the mirror and instead of seeing your own reflection, you see the face of the one you most desire!”
Rarity burst out laughing. “Y-You can't be serious! I thought this was going to be scary.”
“Well, it's one version I've heard,” Rainbow said. “I personally like the one where something comes out and drags you in-”
“Gosh what beautiful weather we're going to have this week!” Fluttershy suddenly blurted out. “Lunch time is almost over too…”
“Well in any case, ya don't have to rush into anything just yet,” Applejack said. “Just go with whatever speaks to ya.”
Twilight smiled. “You know...I think I just might like it here after all.”
Evening
After lunch consisted of afternoon classes, which seemed to go by quicker than the morning classes. Once the school day ended, everyone said goodbye and went their separate ways. Twilight left the school and made her way back to the apartment.
She was then greeted by an excited Spike who was very much happy to see her. “I know Spike, I missed you too. I don't think you have to worry, I met some nice people today.” She plopped onto the couch as her thoughts turned to the homework she already had as well as the choices she would soon have to make.
She wanted to get involved as soon as possible, since everyone at CHS was a lot more welcoming. Student Council seemed like an easy choice but should she join a club as well? Soccer was a no-go since she wasn't very good at long distance running. Tennis sounded fun but she only played it a few times in middle school.
She then got up and made herself dinner, taking one of the TV dinners out of the freezer. As she said, she'd sleep on it. It was only the first day after all.
Later on Shining came home and asked how her first day went. He seemed pleased that she was able to make new friends right away. “Cadance won't be back til Friday but you probably figured that out already,” Shining reminded her. “But she's going to want all the details.”
“As always...well got to go start on my homework!”
“Some things never change...you never heard the word procrastinate?”
“We don't use that word Shining!” It was times like these that Twilight reminded him of their mother.
It only took about an hour for her to finish but afterwards Twilight felt tired and decided to go to bed early.
Late Night
She woke up a few hours later, although she wasn't sure why. She looked at the clock and saw it was a few minutes before midnight. She closed her eyes but soon a thought entered her mind.
She remembered what Rainbow said during lunch about the mirror. But there was no way something like that worked. Twilight was always science before fantasy.
Still...she was kind of curious. She got up quietly not to wake up Spike in his little bed. She went towards her mirror and suddenly she felt a little scared: what if something...a spirit or monster stared back at her and tried to-
“Don't be ridiculous.” She would see her face, that was it. She looked at the clock and as soon as it turned midnight, she looked back and stared.
All she saw was her face. No one else. As she thought it was just an urban legend. However...was it her imagination or did the mirror look like it suddenly had a watery appearance?
She put a hand to the mirror and to her surprise her fingers went through the mirror like water. She pulled her hand back but nothing was on it and it was dry. She touched it again and the same thing happened. She decided to be daring and put her hand further in, even though she felt nothing.
Suddenly, she felt something grab her and it took everything not to shriek at the top of her lungs. She tried pulling back but the thing wouldn't let go. She pulled back as hard as she could and finally broke free, falling back against the bed.
She was panting hard, mostly from panic. Either she was dreaming or having one hell of a hallucination. “Just go back to bed...it's probably just a dream where you think you're awake…”
She layed back down and closed her eyes, her heart eventually returning back to a normal pace and it wasn't long before she fell asleep.
Author's Note
Well I guess Igor finally caved and got that club! Too bad Elizabeth isn't here...
So I was thinking while I'll be working on my other doc's, I'm pretty much going to post or try to post a chapter each week. Some chapters will be shorter or very short so it should be rather easy. (Hopefully)
