Ember galloped as fast as she can to get home. She was thinking of what happened a while ago.

'I hope he's alright.' She thought. When she ran inside, she immediately ran upstairs and towards Moonlight's room.

When she was outside the door, she stopped and slowly opened the door. She took a peek inside the room, to find out that Moonlight was near the opened window. Moonlight was reading a book he took from his shelves. He was completely calm.

"You okay?" Moonlight asked Ember while still looking on the book.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She replied. Moonlight closed his book and looked at her. They stared at each other.

"So, how about you?" Ember asked nervously. Moonlight smiled and walked towards Ember.

Ember was about to say something when she was pulled into a hug by Moonlight. She smiled back and hugged.

"You know I'm always all right. I'm just glad you are too." He replied calmly.

They let go of the hug and Ember smiled again before walking out of the room. She didn't bother to teleport. She took one more look at his brother and walked out of the room. Moonlight just smiled and took one last look at the moon and goes to sleep.

It's the day, when Moonlight woke up he realized that when the moon rise he will start his first training in controlling his newly gained magic. He jumped out of his bed and started stretching. After his stretching, he thought that to try teleporting again.

"Hmm, I wonder what's taking Moonlight so long?" Ember asked herself while she was cooking again. Then she heard a thump on the dining room. When she walked inside the dining room, she saw Moonlight on the floor, rubbing his flank. Ember just giggled and walked towards him.

"He he, what happened?" She asked.

"Trying to think accurately on where I should teleport. In my case my chair." He said while pointing on his chair. Ember just giggled and helped her brother.

"Don't worry, you'll figure it out. Besides, later tonight princess Luna is going to train you." She said in a smile.

"Yeah, I know." He said.

"Don't tell me your nervous." She said with a smirk. Then Moonlight looked at Ember with a irritated stare.

"Kidding." She added. Smiling sheepishly.

"I thought so." He replied.

"Soo, wanna talk about something?" She asked. Moonlight raised an eyebrow.

"About last night with the bandits?" He replied. Ember nodded.

"Well, when I noticed the moon rising, I felt a pain in my body and I transformed again when I was in my room. So that gaved me an idea. Not only I saved you that about to fight them all alone, I also kept my transformation a secret. So my secret still stands." He explained.

"Oh, right. But still, how did you know that your about to transform?" She asked while raising an eyebrow.

"Remember the first time I transformed, it was very painful?" Moonlight asked, which Ember nodded. "It's just like last night. A felt a slight pain until it was increasing until its very painful." He added.

"So your feeling a slight pain every time you transform." Ember cleared the statement. Moonlight nodded.

"So, what about later? You know she's going to be shocked when she see you again in your batpony side, right?" She asked. "Or 'form'." She added.

"Your right. But she can also sense dark magic. So it wouldn't be a surprised to her when she sense my magic. She'll know it's me." Moonlight replied.

They talked about Moonlight's training all morning. When he realized it, Moonlight jumped and was about to fly out of the house.

"Hey! Where you going?" Ember asked.

"I'll tell you my training tomorrow. Right now, I have something to do." He replied. After he left. Ember was confused on why is he on a hurry. But she didn't mind, she does have a work of herself.

Moonlight was flying above Canterlot. He test his agility and reflexes every time he sees a tight turn or a dead end alley. He even added math in the mix. He calculates his trajectory and angle. His speed can't be matched by others, so as his quick reaction and reflexes.

There was a time that the wonderbolts wants him to join them in there team, be he declined. Most pegasi wants to join the wonderbolts, but Moonlight was the only one whose declined their invitation.

Moonlight landed slowly at the hill where he always rest after excercise. He took a little nap under the tree. When he woke up, it was afternoon. Just hours away before the sun sets and the moon rise. He flew back to get ready for his training. When he returned, he saw at the table a picnic basket with a note. He walked towards the table and took a closer look at the note.

'Here's some food I pack for you after your training.
There's some water in there if your thirsty.
Busy helping Lox at his house, be back later.
Enjoy. -Ember Blaze'

Moonlight smiled to see his sister helping others. It doesn't really matter if he doesn't bring food. Its just for a whole night. But he couldn't deny his sister's hospitality.

He walked back to his room to get ready. When he was ready, he looked at the sun who was about to set in about thirty minutes. He grabbed the picnic basket with his mouth and flew towards the royal castle.

When he reach the castle. A royal stepped up and said.

"Who goes there?" He said. Moonlight put down the basket and said.

"Um, Moonlight Sparks, sir? Son of Crimson Knight." He replied. When the guard heard the name Crimson Knight, he nodded and opened the gates. He signaled Moonlight to follow him.

Moonlight grabbed the basket again and followed the guard. Then when they reached a door with the mark of a crescent moon, he turned to Moonlight and said.

"You may enter." He said before returning to his post. Moonlight nodded and pushed the door with his hoof.

When he entered, the room looks like a throne room but most of the color were dark. He put his basket down near him and walked around the huge room to admire the beauty.

"Your here early." A voice said. Moonlight turned around and saw princess Luna watching him from the balcony. "I said we must meet when after the moon rises. Not before the moon rise." She added.

"I'm sorry, princess. It's just that there's something you should know when the moon rise." He replied. Luna was intrigue.

"Fine. We will start our training after I'm done." She said softly. Moonlight nodded. "So, what are you waiting for?" Luna asked. Moonlight was confused. Then he realized that she wants him to see her at work.

"Oh, yeah sorry." He apologized and ran towards Luna's side. Luna smiled as she focus her sights on the moon. Her horn lit and the sun was setting and the moon was rising. Moonlight couldn't believe it. He was at the side of the princess of the night while she was doing her work.

When the moon was shining in the sky, Moonlight felt the slight pain on his body. He knew what's going to happen next.

"Ugh...okay princess...here's what I meant." He said while struggling on the pain. Luna then felt the dark magic growing. Then a dark sphere covers Moonlight and when it was shrinking, it revealed Moonlight's batpony. He was panting after the transformation. Luna then sensed no dark magic growing large. She ran towards Moonlight.

"What in equestria happened to you?" She asked.

"Well, it turns out that the dark magic inside me is giving me a hard time when I transform every night." He said calmly.

"Wait...what do you mean every night?" She asked in confused.

"Every. single. night." He replied. Luna was shocked about this. But then it faded when Moonlight smiled at her.

"You are not just brave, and courageous. But your heart is full of light." She said before smiling back.

"Thanks, princess." He said. "We were suppose to be training right now, right?" He asked.

"Oh, yeah. Right sorry, got caught in the moment there." She replied before smiling sheepishly. Then Moonlight chuckled.

Moonlight's training was a bit hard, but he was able to do and finished them. Now he has to do one more thing.

"To tell you the truth Moonlight, I was surprised that you were able to learn and train better to control the dark magic inside you." Luna said, smiling.

"Well, I have a pretty good teacher." He said with a wink then smiled.

"Now that you know how to control your magic, you must now conquer your worst nightmares. On your own." Luna said. "You have two choices, you either prove them wrong by destroying the nightmare. Or prove them wrong by accepting of what they think. It's your choice, and your choice only Moonlight Sparks. Are you ready?" She explained and asked.

"I'm ready as I'll ever be." He replied. Moonlight was ready to take on the test. Luna lit her horn and the whole room was pitch dark and she disappeared.

Moonlight was like floating on a sea of nothingness. Then he saw Ember. He flew towards her.

"Hey Ember. I didn't know you were here." Moonlight greeted Ember. When she turned around, she was angry and furious.

"YOU DID THIS!!" she shouted, Moonlight jumped back at the shout.

"Huh?" He was confuser of what she said.

"YOU DID THIS! IF YOU DIDN'T LEAVE CANTERLOT, OUR PARENTS SHOULD BE ALIVE RGHT NOW AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE A BROTHER WHO WAS A BATPONY!!" She shouted again. Moonlight was shocked of what she said.

"No! You don't understand, even if I didn't leave Canterlot, mom and dad would still be-" he was cutted off when he was hit by a magic blast. He groaned in pain as he saw Ember who shot him on the body. He tries to stand back up, only to be hit by another magic blast from Ember.

"Ember, please." He tried to plea.

"NO, YOU WILL NEVER CALL THEM YOUR PARENTS!! AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, YOUR NOT MY BROTHER!!" Then that statement changed the mood. Moonlight froze when he heard her own sister telling him that he's not her brother anymore. Instead of sorrow and fear, it turned into fury and rage. He gritted his teeth when he was standing back up. Another bolt of magic was about to hit him. Then all of a sudden he disappeared. Ember looked side by side to see where he is. Then what she felt behind her made her shiver in fear. Moonlight didn't attack or hurt Ember, even he knew that it wasn't really her. His not that kind of pony. He would never hurt anyone he loved. He was behind her just looking above.

"I'm sorry. I know I should have been there to protect you all. But that doesn't change the fact that I can't protect you now. Yes, you were right about everything. You have the means to be angry. But in the past now. The only ponies now that I can and will protect, is you. Whether your angry at me or not, I will protect you with my life. Our parents have a choice. They chose to save us. And it's my choice to save you, even if it means sacrificing myself. And yes, I will protect not just you, I will protect my friends and families from danger. I promise you that. And that's a promise I will never break. Forever." He explained. Then when Ember heard this her anger lessened and turned into sorrow and turned to Moonlight and hugged him. Moonlight just smiled and hugged back.

"Promise you will protect all of us." Ember said.

"You know I will. For you, sis." He replied. Ember smiled and then she disappeared.

The pitch black room was gone and the throne room room is visible again, so as princess Luna. Who was so happy the she pulled Moonlight into a hug.

"Do you really mean all of those words, Moonlight?" She asked calmly.

"Every. Single. One of them." He replied smiling.

"Congratulations, Moonlight Sparks. You have passed the test and now a choice must be made." Luna declared.

"What choices?" Moonlight asked.

"Will you accept the place as a Captain-in-Training of the royal guards and I will personally teach you how to raise the moon and set the sun until one day I need your help. Or will you decline the offer and return home to your sister, protecting her on your own. Your choice is final. Choose wisely." She explained.

Moonlight's jaw dropped when she was finished explaining.

"Wait a sec, are you really gonna be giving me this position? Like seriously?" He asked in shocked.

Princess Luna smiled and replied. "I have never been more serious until today. You have proven that you have the charity-like,compassion, devotion, Integrity, optism, and the leadership of a Captain. This one choice is in your hoof. Choose wisely now."

Moonlight was thinking for a whole minute until he came with a conclusion.

"I accept the position of Captain-In-Training." He said calmly.

"I know you will make the right choice." Luna said with a smile.

"Will I still see my sister?" He asked.

"Yes, but you will be seeing her less. Once I contact my sister of your offer. You will most likely to live here in the palace." Luna replied.

Moonlight gave Luna a puzzled look and said. "Say what now?"

"That's right,since your a captain you will have your own quarters. Separated from the guardhouse. But still, Ember can visit anytime. We will give her permission." She replied. "Now for tonight, you must return home and be ready to move tomorrow. I'll send a royal carriage for your departure." She added.

Moonlight returned but still shocked of his choice. He couldn't believe that he would get to live in a castle, especially the royal sister's castle. He can't wait for tomorrow. When he was to go inside his room, he took a look around inside Ember's room and she was sleeping in her bed. He smiled and trotted back to his room. He closed his eyes knowing that tomorrow is a brand new start.
