Maybe the reason Lyra is so obsessed with humans... is because she was raised by them? A down-on-his-luck closet brony learns that the mint-green Unicorn somehow ended up in his world, though she is much younger, a filly. He decides to take her home with him and take care of her, and both of them come to share a strong friendship... but because Lyra is aging quite rapidly for an unknown reason, it might end up turning out to be more than what either of them expected.
