A Fairy Tail Ending

"There is no revenge you could ever conceive of that will come close to what I will exact upon you one day, Starlight Glimmer!"

Queen Chrysalis jumped off the cliff and flew away. After putting some distance between her and the many ponies and changelings that outnumbered her, not to mention Discord, she stopped to rest, and think of a revenge plan.

She noticed a cave to the side. Perfect for hiding and plotting revenge. She walked into the cave, where there was a glowing light coming from within. Chrysalis walked further into the cave to find a glowing crystal on a pedestal. She could feel power radiating from it. It must be a mystical crystal, the likes of which could be seen in the Daring Do books that Rainbow Dash and Twilight loved to read. Or similar to the Alicorn Amulet. It didn't matter what it was - if it had power, Chrysalis could use it for her revenge!

She began to absorb the crystal's power.

The Mane 6, Starlight Glimmer, Trixie, Discord, the princesses (including Flurry Heart), Shining Armor, and Spike were having a party at Starlight Glimmer's town, and the Mane 6 heard about Starlight's quest to save them from Queen Chrysalis while Discord and Trixie were racing on flying pigs.

At one point, Celestia began flying alongside Discord, wanting to have some fun after being imprisoned by Chrysalis. As Starlight was describing tricking the changelings with Trixie's smoke bombs, Pinkie Pie said "That was awesome!" and accidentally threw the salt shaker she was holding. As she did, her tail suddenly twitched, which meant something was about to fall. The salt shaker landed on Celestia's tail, spilling salt all over it, and Celestia fell to the ground.

"Whoops! Sorry about that," said Pinkie. "How does putting salt on a flyer's tail stop them from flying? It doesn't make any sense!" Coming from a pony who defies the laws of physics.

Celestia assured her it was quite all right, cast a spell on her tail to make the salt disappear, and resumed flying alongside Discord.

After the story was finished, Twilight said "Should we worry about Chrysalis?"

"She lost her army!" said Rainbow Dash. "She can't do anything to us now."

"But she swore absolute revenge on Starlight," said Twilight.

"And she said there was no revenge I could ever conceive of that would come close to it," said Starlight. "She said that to me, a pony who altered time and created horrible futures to destroy Twilight's friendships as revenge on her. Which was a lot worse than taking away everyone's cutie marks before." She still felt bad about all this.

By now, Trixie had dismounted her pig and was next to them. "And I sought revenge on Twilight and became corrupted by the Alicorn Amulet... you all know how that turned out. It made my boasting seem really tame."

"So who knows what she might have in store this time?" said Twilight. "Now that she has nothing to lose, she could be even more dangerous!"

"She was probably just trying to scare Starlight," said Rainbow Dash. "Like what can she do?"

"What if she turns into Celestia, Thorax, and Ember, and in each form declares war on one of the other species, leading to an all-our war between ponies, changelings, and dragons?"

"I think I and any of the other leaders would see through that since we know she's still out there," said Celestia, who along with Discord was also standing beside them.

"But what if she captures Rarity, imprisons her somewhere, turns into her, feeds off Spike's love for her, and becomes powerful enough to defeat Starlight? And without Rarity we can't defeat her?"

"She does raise a good point," said Rarity.

"Even if five of you can't defeat her, I can!" said Discord. "Without her throne she can't block my powers anymore! And I won't let her manipulate me like Tirek did!"

"You six had better go with him just in case," said Celestia.

"I'll come too," said Starlight.

In a flash of light, Discord, Starlight, and the Mane 6 disappeared.

They appeared in a rocky area, and quickly spotted Chrysalis pacing around, muttering some violent things, in which Starlight's came could occasionally be heard.

"Queen Chrysalis!" said Discord. "Well, I guess it's ex-queen now that Thorax is in charge."

A pillar of green flame appeared around Chrysalis. When it cleared, Fluttershy stood in her place.

Discord looked back at the ponies. Fluttershy stood there. He looked back at the Fluttershy doppelganger before him. "You don't seriously expect me to fall for that, Chrysalis!"

Chrysalis transformed into Rarity and started whipping her tail back and forth. "I whip my tail back and forth! I whip..."

"Oh really!" said Rarity. "I whip my tail much more gracefully than that!"

"Not even remotely distracting," said Discord. He snapped his fingers and Chrysalis resumed her original form. "Since you rejected redemption, I'll have to use my powers on you. Should I turn you to stone, or take away your wings and horn and teleport you to the deepest depths of Tartarus?"

While Discord was trying to decide which of the following to do, Chrysalis seized the opportunity. There was another flash of green light, and Discord looked in her direction.

"No Discord don't!" said Fluttershy, but it was too late.

Discord found himself staring a cockatrice in the face.

"Oh, not again!" said Discord as Chrysalis's cockatrice stare turned him to stone.

The Mane 6 and Starlight avoided making eye contact, until they saw another flash of green light in their peripheral vision as Chrysalis reassumed changeling form.

"Oh, I'm not turning you to stone," she said. "I have something far worse in mind for all of you!"

Another pillar of green flame appeared around her, and this one expanded to a tremendous size. The ponies moved back, Twilight levitating the stone Discord well out of the way.

When the pillar of changeling flame was gone, an Ursa Major stood before them. She had the appearance of light green stars on a black night sky, and of course, in the shape of a humongous bear.

The other Mane 5 stared, having never seen an Ursa Major before, only the Ursa Minor that Twilight had defeated. Even Twilight was very nervous at the sight of Chrysalis's new form. No one could vanquish an Ursa Major.

But all Chrysalis did was stomp the ground, creating a large crack in the ground, which broke apart to reveal a lava pit. As the ground beneath Chrysalis crumbled, she turned back into her changeling form in a burst of flame.

"Quickly! Rainbow Power!" said Twilight.

But before the ponies could activate the Rainbow Power they had used to blast Tirek to Tartarus, another giant pillar of green flame appeared around Chrysalis, and when it cleared, she was a dragon. Her scales were the same dark gray that she usually was, and her underbelly was green. Her wings were transparent and the same color as they usually were, but still dragon wings. Her spikes were the same shade of teal as her mane. She was slightly bigger than the red dragon that was snoring smoke.

Fluttershy stood frozen with fear. The one creature she was afraid of was dragons - not baby dragons like Spike, and probably not dragons a little bigger such as Ember, but dragons this big and vicious.

Then Chrysalis roared at the ponies at loud as possible.

Fluttershy couldn't help it. She hid behind a rock, trembling with fear.

"Ah, she won't stay hiding for long when the fate of Equestria's on the line," said Rainbow Dash, speaking from previous experience with the red dragon and Spike's rampage. "Until then, I'll distract her!"

"Be careful!" said Twilight as Rainbow Dash flew at Chrysalis.

Chrysalis shot a blast of flame in Rainbow's direction, but the pegasus flew upward to avoid it, and flew around Chrysalis as fast as she could, so that she was a rainbow blur, almost a tornado, intending to make Chrysalis dizzy until Fluttershy found her courage.

As a manticore had done on her very first adventure, Chrysalis raised her tail and whipped it, hitting Rainbow Dash directly and sending her flying towards the edge of the lava pit they were directly above. Rainbow Dash barely missed the edge and fell towards the lava, but Applejack bit her tail and pulled her back up. She had forgotten how fun this was - the last time she had bit Rainbow Dash's tail, or ANYPONY's tail, was when they were being sucked into Spike's comic book and become Power Ponies.

Applejack had just gotten Rainbow Dash up to ground level when another green blast of flame hit them directly. Both athletic ponies were blasted against a rock wall and slumped to the ground, out cold.

While this was going on, Fluttershy was taking deep breaths behind her rock. "You can do this Fluttershy. You faced the red dragon, you can face Dragon Chrysalis. My friends are fighting her right now, and the fate of Equestria is on the line. I must face my fears once again."

Fluttershy jumped out, ready to join the other ponies and blast Chrysalis to her final resting place. But to her horror, she saw Applejack and Rainbow Dash unconscious. "Oh no! Are they all right?"

"They won't be when I'm through with them!" said Chrysalis. "I like this dragon form. I should terrorize all of Equestria in this form, or in my Ursa Major form! Once I have my revenge! And I'm through imprisoning you. First I'm going to cut off Rainbow Dash's wings and eat them. Then..."

"HOW DARE YOU?!" said Fluttershy, all fear forgotten. "YOU DO NOT HURT MY FRIENDS!"

She flew at Chrysalis and delivered a powerful Flutterkick to her head. Chrysalis hardly felt it. Fluttershy jumped on Chrysalis's back, bit her wing, and tried as hard as she could to pull it off. When that didn't work, she flew over to Chrysalis's tail, bit her tail, and tried to spin her around. But her Flutter Rage wasn't anywhere near powerful enough to spin such a big and heavy dragon.

Chrysalis whipped her tail, sending Fluttershy falling toward the lava. Twilight levitated Fluttershy with her magic, breaking her fall and moving her above ground. Chrysalis shot a blast of flame at Twilight and Fluttershy. Twilight cast a red barrier around them, blocking the attack. Chrysalis flew over, raised her tail above Twilight, and smashed it down on her as hard as she could.

Twilight was painfully reminded of the time Derpy had dropped several heavy objects on her while studying Pinkie Pie's Pinkie Sense. This hurt slightly less, but for the moment the tail slam had left her too weak to fight to the best of her ability.

Fluttershy fell to the ground. "Oh my goodness," she said noticing Twilight laying injured next to her.

"We don't stand a chance if she stays in dragon form," said Twilight.

Chrysalis resumed hovering above the lava pit. "Is that the best you got?"

"I have a plan," said Starlight. She whispered something into Rarity's ear. Rarity ran to the edge of the lava pit, and started whipping her tail back and forth.

"Foal! You don't expect that to... distract..." Chrysalis's eyes couldn't help but follow the movements of Rarity's tail. Her tail was so beautiful, and the way it moved was so graceful... Chrysalis blushed from a mixture of shame and anger at her own attempt at a Rarity tail whip. How could she have possibly thought she could tailwhip as gracefully as Rarity?

Staring at Rarity's repeated tail whips started to make Chrysalis feel tired. Her wings kept flapping, but she couldn't really do much else.

Starlight levitated a rock with her magic and transformed it into a blade resembling a fan. Twilight was very impressed at this display of magic. Starlight used her magic to send the blade at Chrysalis. Chrysalis shot a blast of flame at the blade, but it moved to the side, then flew directly at Chrysalis and sliced off her wings.

Chrysalis fell toward the lava pit, and quickly resumed changeling form, in which her wings were intact, and she stopped her fall. If she had landed in the lava as a dragon, she would have survived, but without her wings she'd have to climb out right next to the ponies, who might have some chance of beating her up close even in this form, especially after what Starlight had just done. She'd just be too vulnerable in that position.

Rarity had stopped whipping her tail. Chrysalis flew over to Rarity, bit her tail, and violently threw her into a rock wall, and she collapsed next to Rainbow Dash and Applejack.

Chrysalis continued hovering above the lava pit. "So, you may have defeated my dragon form, but I've still got power you can never dream of!"

"Starlight's more powerful than you'll ever be!" said Twilight. "Get her, Starlight!"

Starlight shot a blast of magic at Chrysalis, intending to crystallize her. Chrysalis casually flew to the side. Starlight continued shooting magic beams, but Chrysalis continued dodging them, occasionally blasting Starlight mid-dodge.

"I can keep this up all day," said Chrysalis, while Starlight was getting tired.

"You don't have to do this!" said Starlight, trying to convince Chrysalis for the third time. "You saw what the other way could do for you!"

"I'd sooner die than join Thorax's pathetic band of reformed changelings! And let me assure you, you have no idea of the horrors I have in store for you!" She licked her lips, dodging another magic beam and narrowly missing Starlight with her own.

"Starlight!" said Twilight, getting to her feet a little shaky. "If you put salt on a flyer's tail, they can't fly. Not until the salt's gone."

"Are you sure about that?" said Starlight. "That sounds like something out of a silly comic."

"It's our only chance at beating her," said Twilight. "And you saw it with Princess Celestia at the party! Now if only there was a salt bar nearby..."

"We need salt?" said Pinkie Pie. She lifted up a rock and pulled out two salt shakers from under it. "I've got salt shakers stashed all over Equestria in the case of salt shaker emergency."

"This definitely fits into that category," said Twilight.

"I'll get her," said Starlight. She picked up a salt shaker in her mouth, and, using her magic, flew over to Chrysalis.

"You'll never get behind me," said Chrysalis, and she shot a magic blast at Starlight. Starlight teleported to dodge, reappearing behind Chrysalis right next to her tail. Chrysalis suddenly whipped Starlight in the face with her tail, causing her to drop the salt shaker into the lava.

Starlight teleported back to ground, and levitated the second salt shaker with her magic. As it was moving above Chrysalis, Chrysalis quickly blasted the salt shaker with her magic, destroying it.

"What are we gonna do?" said Starlight.

Fluttershy felt awful. If she hadn't hidden at the sight of Chrysalis's dragon form, they'd have beaten her already. She wished there was something she could do to make it right. But she was utterly powerless in the face of Chrysalis's might.

"I've got one more," said Pinkie Pie. She reached into her tail and pulled out a third salt shaker.

"But how are we going to get the salt on her tail?" said Fluttershy.

"Buckball!" came a familiar voice. They turned to see Rainbow Dash getting to her feet, shaky like Twilight, along with Applejack. "Use your Buckball skills!"

Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie weren't exactly bursting with confidence. They didn't play well under pressure, and the fate of Equestria was riding on this. If they didn't get salt on Chrysalis's tail and send her falling into the pit, then all they could do was let Starlight try to blast her. As long as Chrysalis was in the air she'd dodge, and as soon as Starlight was exhausted, Chrysalis would be able to exact her revenge on all seven ponies in ways they'd prefer not to imagine. And then she'd terrorize Equestria. And Discord would either remain a statue or get smashed to pieces.

Rainbow Dash could tell how nervous they were. "Your Buckball skills are amazing! You've beaten me and Applejack more times than we can count! You can beat her easily!"

After their game at Appleoosa, they'd played many games with Rainbow Dash and Applejack, and Starlight and Snails had alternated as the unicorns on each team. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy always won, and Rainbow Dash was as good a sport as she was in the Equestria Games, having come a long way since her Iron Pony competition with Applejack. She didn't know she could have such fun losing so many times in a row.

"Now that you're awake, can't you get behind her?" said Fluttershy. "You're really fast, and if I mess this up..."

"My wings really hurt," said Rainbow Dash. "I don't think I can fly fast for at least half an hour. But you can do this! I know you can! Your skills are superior!"

"We've got this," said Pinkie Pie. "Just think of it as another buckball game. Except you know where you have to get the ball to."

Fluttershy took a deep breath. "Let's do this," she said, and she flew into the air.

"It doesn't matter what you do, you can't stop me!" said Chrysalis. "And I have particularly gruesome plans for you, Fluttershy! Second only to Starlight!"

Pinkie Pie grabbed the salt shaker with her tail, threw it a bit upwards, and when it came back down, she kicked it at Fluttershy. As Fluttershy saw the salt shaker coming towards her, she suddenly felt confident again. This was just another Buckball game.

Fluttershy caught the salt shaker with her tail, being careful not to get a single grain of salt on it, and threw it at Chrysalis as hard as she could.

Pinkie Pie's tail twitched.

Before Chrysalis could react to Fluttershy's astonishing tail technique, the salt shaker landed directly in the center of her tail, diagonally so that it was almost upside-down. Fluttershy had been very precise with how she had thrown it; her tail was even more graceful than Rarity's, and had much better aim than Applejack's. This was a factor in where the salt shaker had landed, but not how; they usually landed like this. Salt poured out of the holes in the salt shaker and onto Chrysalis's tail.

Chrysalis fell. She flapped her wings, but it was no use. Salt on her tail prevented her from flying. She had no idea how this was physically possible, and cursed the physics of Equestria.

"I'LL COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU EVERY NIGHT!"

Chrysalis plummeted into the lava. The last thing that could be seen of her was her hoof, full of holes, before it sank into the lava, and was gone.

Discord turned back to normal. "What happened?" he said.

"Discord!" said Fluttershy, and she gave him a hug.

"Where's Chrysalis?" said Discord.

"Didn't you see the battle? I thought... um... you were awake when you were turned to stone." She hoped it wasn't too insensitive to mention the time when she had turned him to stone.

"That was only for the Elements of Harmony," said Discord. "Cockatrice magic works much differently."

"Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy defeated Chrysalis with their Buckball skills," said Twilight. "We won't have to worry about her again."

"I'm sorry about earlier," said Fluttershy. "When she turned into a dragon. I..."

"You don't have to apologize," said Twilight. "You still came out and faced her a lot sooner than with the dragon that was snoring smoke, and ultimately you're the one who defeated her for good. That more than makes up for it."

Fluttershy blushed affectionately, then looked into the lava at the spot where Chrysalis's hoof had disappeared. "You... don't think she's really going to become a ghost, do you?"

"I'm pretty sure that was just for scare," said Twilight.

"Well she was really thinking of revenge plans for me," said Starlight.

"That was different," said Twilight. "Now that I know she could turn into forms like dragons and Ursa Major. But ghosts aren't real. They're just an old ponytail!"

"I could probably summon ghosts, but I'd never bring her back, not even for Nightmare Night!" said Discord.

"What about King Sombra?" said Pinkie Pie, who was also afraid of ghosts.

"He wasn't a ghost, he was just turned to shadow," said Twilight. "And there's been no sign of him in the Crystal Empire since Princess Cadance and the Crystal Ponies destroyed him. Chrysalis is in Tartarus now, just like Sombra and Tirek, and the way they got there, they'll never escape."

As soon as all the ponies had recovered from the battle, Discord teleported them back to the party, where they told the princesses about their fight with Chrysalis, and continued their party, able to relax now that Chrysalis was gone for good.

Chrysalis's defeat here of course didn't make Twilight forget about how Starlight had led her team to rescue her and the others from Chrysalis and caused the redemption of the other changelings. Besides, if Starlight hadn't done so, Pinkie and Fluttershy, with help from her, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Rarity, wouldn't have been able to take her out for good. She'd have to make sure a party was held in honor of Starlight's victory over Chrysalis...

Chrysalis found herself in a cage in a cell in Tartarus, the circle in the center of the cell glowing light blue as soon as she and her cage appeared. She was dead, and this was where she was spending her afterlife. How could she have been defeated by a pathetic pony like Fluttershy? With help from such a goofy, annoying pony like Pinkie Pie?

As much as she'd have preferred otherwise, she had only been bluffing about becoming a ghost. She hoped Fluttershy would live the rest of her life in fear, but deep down she knew Twilight would make sure she knew that there were no ghosts in Equestria, and either way, after the first few nights without her returning, she'd be completely reassured. Chrysalis wished she could bite Fluttershy's tail off!

A monster - a living monster imprisoned in Tartarus through its portal - walked by, but took no notice of her.

Then, a screen came on in her cell. It was of... ponies, but they looked completely different than the ponies of Equestria. There was also a dragon resembling Spike. They called him Spike... but something about the ponies was... the kind of show you'd expect only very young fillies to like.

This was G3 of My Little Pony.

"Oh, the horror!" said Chrysalis.

Author's Note

The title of this chapter is NOT a reference to the anime Fairy Tail. It's a pun on "fairy tale ending" with "tail" in place of "tale", because of all the uses of tails here, especially Fluttershy defeating Chrysalis with her tail. (To think the idea came to me as a story I could write for my new group, and turned into my new headcanon)

Also, the salt thing is a reference to The Three Stooges (in the court episode where Curly says to catch the parrot by putting salt on its tail). Utter nonsense in real life, but if ponies and dragons can get startled INTO getting the hiccups in this show, this isn't that unlikely. How they actually catch the parrot is getting its feathers wet so it can't fly... but then, that never stopped Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy from flying! (Unlike Firefly in G1)

I googled this, and apparently there is an urban legend around this with birds (originating from the idea that if you can get close enough to put salt on its tail, you can get close enough to catch it). Still, based on the hiccup thing alone, I could go with this, as one of those unlikely but slightly possible fanfics.

And in case Chrysalis's death seemed a little too violent (despite Sombra dying in the show, plus a few in other E-rated stories I found, so it should be fine anyway), I added in her afterlife scene for a little comedy. And no offense is intended toward anyone who does like G3.

The prologue did seem a bit rushed, I know, it was thrown in last-minute at the suggestion of my good friend Fruity Treeze to explain why she's suddenly powerful enough to take the Mane 6 and Starlight on.

Edit: I put some slight modification on the last Twilight scene to be consistent with the premier now it's out.
