Prison Island
A few nights ago

Dr. Eggman stared in disbelief as the hedgehog rose up from the stasis tube.

"What?! Is that you, Sonic?! Coming to spoil my plans again?!" The mist suddenly cleared to reveal a black hedgehog with red stripes on his spines. "Wait a minute, you're not Sonic! This is impossible!"

"My name is Shadow," the hedgehog replied in a mysterious voice. "Since you were so kind to release me, my master, I will grant you one wish." Before Eggman could reply, there was a loud clang and alarms started to blare.

"Now what?!" The mad scientist yelled in frustration.

"Behold the true power that I possess!" Shadow proclaimed, now floating in mid-air thanks to his hover skates. He quickly teleported to the room's entrance, facing a large bipedal walker that looked identical to the Big Foot mech that Sonic and Sunset would fight the next night.

"This is Spider Troops' Hot Shot," the mech's pilot said into his comlink. "Intercepting intruder and preparing to engage." Shadow only smirked as he dodged the walker's machine gunfire and charged laser shots. When the Hot Shot mech landed to fire its missiles, the black hedgehog punched the cockpit, instantly shattering it. "He's too strong!"

"Hmph. Pathetic humans," Shadow sneered as Eggman rejoined him.

"Destroying that guard robot was spectacular!" The fat man said in awe. "So Shadow, you're the government's top secret weapon? But what did you mean when you said you would 'grant me a wish'?"

"Bring more Chaos Emeralds," Shadow replied before walking away. "I'll be waiting for you on the Space Colony ARK."

"ARK?!" Eggman's mind flashed back to the orbital research station his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, used to work on. When he looked up, Shadow was already gone.

Space Colony ARK
Present time

Dr. Eggman stepped into the computer room located at the heart of the station. Shadow was already waiting for him.

"This," the dark hedgehog began. "Is the Eclipse Cannon. A weapon with the power to wipe out a planet. It is yours to use if you wish." He slightly bowed his head as Eggman investigated the console.

"Wait, a laser that can blow up planets?" Human Twilight interrupted Rainbow's imitation of Shadow. "Fired from a space station. That sounds a little too much like Star..."

"It's a completely original concept!" Rainbow replied before continuing.

"Hmmmmm. It looks like the Cannon will require all seven Chaos Emeralds to be at full power," Eggman said after a few minutes. "It may take a while to find the rest."

"I already have acquired one," Shadow held out the green Emerald.

"I saw on the news," Eggman grinned. "You even managed to get that annoying nuisance Sonic arrested!"

"So that's his name..." Shadow muttered as another minifig swooped down from the ceiling. The two turned their heads to see Sunny Flare had managed to find her way up to the ARK as well. She was wearing a more conventional spy suit, perfect for heists and infiltration.

"There room for one more?" The former Shadowbolt asked, pulling out the blue Chaos Emerald from her pocket. Eggman ran up to her in glee. She quickly pulled it away, shaking her claw hand. "Uh, uh, uh. You have to let me join your little club if you want it."

"And what can you offer that I simply cannot take?" The doctor asked.

"I know the location of three more Chaos Emeralds," Sunny raised her left eyebrow somewhat flirtingly. "And I know how to retrieve them."

"Then welcome aboard, Miss..."

"Flare. Sunny Flare," she shook Eggman's hand before noticing the black hedgehog. " And who's Tall, Dark and Mysterious over here?"

"I'm Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." Sunny's eyes widened in shock at the name.

"So where are these three Emeralds?" Eggman demanded.

"Oh, that part's easy," the ex-Shadowbolt smirked. "They're on..."

Sea near Prison Island
A few days later

A dark blue four-winged jet plane flew over the ocean leading to Prison Island. Its pilot, Miles "Tails" Prower, had a determined look in his eyes as his plane, the Cyclone, carried himself, Amy Rose, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash to the prison complex/G.U.N. base.

"You do realize this makes us criminals, right?" Twilight yelled over the wind.

"Well, Sunset and Sonic are innocent," Rainbow countered. "And this is the quickest way to break 'em out!"

"Plus, there's three Chaos Emeralds stored in the vault here," Tails added. "We're also here to stop Sonic's imposter from taking them."

"Oh, I hope Sonic's alright..." Amy sighed. Rainbow and Twilight rolled their eyes at her devotion to the blue hedgehog.

Meanwhile
Inside Prison Island

The island's warden, Howard Watcher, smugly looked at the security cameras overlooking Sonic and Sunset Shimmer's cell. He made sure to place them into the prison's best cage, a jail cell completely submerged in a tank of water. Knowing that the only way out was by an access panel from the outside and the fact that there was nowhere to escape but the bottom of the sea, Watcher knew he had both criminals trapped.

Meanwhile on another end of the island, Dr. Eggman, Shadow and Sunny had rendezvoused to begin their heist.

"Does everyone remember their part of the plan?" Eggman began. "I will cause some havoc in their shipyard, drawing the attention of the island guards. Shadow will then blow up the island with this miniature detonation device." He tossed Shadow the small bomb. "Then with the guards distracted, Sunny will enter the vault and grab the three Chaos Emeralds stored there. We have 20 minutes to pull this off. Make it happen!"

Eggman's Egg Walker marched off towards the Weapons Bed while Shadow and Sunny headed off to complete their own objectives.

At the same time, Tails' Cyclone had just landed outside the prison's main entrance and transformed into a walker. The girls disembarked from the mech's backseat and followed Tails towards the main entrance. Before they could enter the building, a huge explosion caught their attention. Rainbow Dash quickly zoomed towards the island's jungles to confront the source. Twilight and Tails sighed as he directed the Cyclone into the island base. Amy and Fluttershy followed closely behind. As Tails fought his way through the hallways of Prison Island, Amy saw a familiar shape in one of the rooms.

"SONIC!" She suddenly ran into the room, unintentionally dragging poor Fluttershy with her, and glomped the hedgehog she believed was her true love. The hedgehog turned his head in confusion and surprise before shaking her off him. "Wait... you're not Sonic!" Shadow merely grunted before dashing out of the room, having set the explosives. Amy stamped her foot angrily before running out of the room to look for Sonic's cell. Fluttershy sighed as she looked around the room. It appeared to be an armory of sorts. Then the beeping sound caught her attention as she saw the timer on the wall, indicating the bomb was going to go off in 15 minutes. Her eyes widening in shock, Fluttershy ran as fast as she could out of the room and into Sunny Flare who was currently attempting to rob the vault.

"S-Sunny?!" Fluttershy caught her breath. "What are you doing here?!"

"No time to explain, Fluttershy," Sunny interrupted. "I need to get those Chaos Emeralds."

"Wait, what...?" Fluttershy couldn't believe she was going back to being a bad guy. "But I thought you were going to turn over a new leaf!"

"Look, I need to do this for my employer," Sunny stated. "So you either step aside or I will have to force you."

"No."

"Excuse me?"

Fluttershy looked up with a determined glare in her eyes. "I will not let you get to those Emeralds." She raised her hands, preparing to fight. Sunny sighed as she suddenly dropped a smoke bomb, making Fluttershy cough and distracting her long enough for the former Shadowbolt to slip by and open the vault. Grabbing the three Chaos Emeralds and placing them into her bag, Sunny felt Fluttershy take hold of her shoulder. "That only worked for a few seconds," the pink-haired Lego Team member stated, her Pegasus wings flapping the smoke away. Her eyes had very little kindness in them now.

"Look, I need to gain Eggman's trust..." Sunny began before Fluttershy punched her across the room. Sunny gasped at the force of the punch. "...I actually felt that." Setting the bag down, she launched herself at Fluttershy, hoping to kick her head. Fluttershy easily dodged and countered the attack. She quickly flew up into the air, giving her a slight advantage. "You're better than I thought, 'Shy."

"I've been taking lessons," the normally timid girl replied, as she flew towards her opponent.

Sonic and Sunset's cell

Both of the imprisoned heroes looked up as the cell's entrance suddenly extended towards them with Amy Rose at the controls, carrying her giant Piko-Piko Hammer.

"Amy!" Sunset ran up to the bars as the pink hedgehog skipped her way to them.

"Have no fear, Amy Rose is here!" The pick hedgehog girl proclaimed proudly as she ran over to the cell door controls and smashed them with her hammer. The bars suddenly retracted, freeing Sonic and Sunset.

"How did you even find us?" Sonic asked in disbelief.

"Tails and Twilight gave me a ride."

"...and they couldn't use the Jump Gate?" Sunset deadpanned.

"This place seems to jam the signal," Amy explained. "Hence why Tails brought the plane."

"Still, that black hedgehog is a problem..." Sunset mused.

"You mean the one working with Eggman?" Amy asked.

"Eggman again?!" Sunset groaned. "I thought Perfect Chaos sent him flying."

"Eggface never does know when to quit!" Sonic replied as he stretched his feet. "I'm sick of being cramped up in here!" He quickly zoomed out of the room. Amy then noticed the numerous writings on the walls of their former prison. There were numerous equations and ramblings, along with a time of 27:53:00.

"You guys wrote all that?" Amy asked in curiosity.

"No, this was all here when we arrived," Sunset explained as they followed Sonic outside to freedom.

Soon

Sonic was racing through the harbor of Prison Island, hoping to meet up with the rest of the rescue party. As he reached the jungle, he noticed a familiar rainbow streak zooming through the trees. Smirking as he knew that it could only be Rainbow Dash. Catching up to his equally fast companion, he tapped her shoulder to get her attention.

"Oh, hey, you made it out!" She grinned as they raced through the dense undergrowth. Stopping at a small island in the middle of a large lake, they noticed a black shape standing on one of the fallen trees.

"Hey, that's..." Sonic started.

"That blue hedgehog again of all place..." Shadow muttered to himself.

"I found you, faker!" Sonic pointed at his doppelganger.

"Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here! You're comparing yourself to me?! Ha! You're not even good enough to be my..."

"HE'LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS!" Rainbow interrupted his gloating as she and Sonic leapt into battle.

"Sorry, but there's only one real Sonic!" The blue hedgehog rolled into a ball, and rolled right into Shadow, tripping him. "Now then, Shadow, where's Dr. Eggman?!"

"Oh, you'll know soon enough..." The black hedgehog smirked as his comlink suddenly buzzed.

"Are the explosives set, Shadow?" Eggman's voice said.

"Affirmative, Doctor," Shadow replied.

"Good, the island will explode in ten minutes!"

"Explode?!" Sonic and Rainbow asked in unison.

"Well, I've run into a problem," Sunny Flare's voice said over the com. "I'm kind of stuck in the vault with a civilian."

"Leave her, Shadow!" Eggman interrupted. "We'll fish the Emeralds out from the ashes!"

"Understood," Shadow said before hanging up. Before he could leave, both Sonic and Rainbow grabbed his arms.

"We're not letting anyone stay trapped here on this island," Sonic stated. "We're going to rescue your friend."

"And you're gonna help!" Rainbow finished. Shadow closed his eyes in defeat.

"...very well."
