Super Mario Bros Z: Equestria Saga

Mario and Sonic hovered in midair, a Power Star floating in between the two of them. The heroes closed their eyes, feeling energy surge through their bodies. The red-clad plumber and blue hedgehog crossed their arms in front of them as they began to glow, the power of the star granting them power. At last, a powerful aura surrounded their bodies and they began to transform.

Sonic's blue fur was now bright yellow, his spiky quills were pointing upwards and his usually green eyes were red. Mario's form was less altered, he retained his usual red clothes, hat, blue overalls and black mustache, but white flashes surrounded his body as they two posed next to each other.

The super-powered hedgehog was the first to speak in amazement, "Whoa. This power is amazing! I'm sure we'll have no problem taking care of Mecha Sonic now. What do you say we send ol' metal butt back to the scrap heap from where he came?"

Mario knelt down with a pumped fist, "Let's-a go!"

Sonic nodded and gave his friend a thumbs up. Grabbing the plumber's arm, Super Sonic flew himself and Mario upwards to end their arch-nemesis once and for all.

Hovering above the island was none other than Mecha Sonic. His blue metal was turned yellow thanks to the power of the Chaos Emeralds he possessed. He had an arm raised, and above him was a large ball of energy, strong enough to destroy the entirety of Yoshi's Island below him and everyone on it.

Mecha Sonic grunted, "YES! Just a little more and this puny island is history!" the robot declared, turning his gaze downwards, surprised by what he saw, "WHAT?!"

Coming towards him was Sonic and Mario, the former flipping so that they did a combo roll, charging their strength so that they could knock the robot out hard enough. The hedgehog sped up as they got ever closer to Mecha Sonic.

At last, the heroes and villain collided, kicking Mecha Sonic so hard that time appeared to have halted and Mario and Sonic separated into different directions, knocking the four Chaos Emeralds he had from his metallic grasp. Once the emeralds were taken from him, Mecha Sonic reverted back to his base state.

Super Sonic flew around as a yellow blur, catching the Chaos Emeralds to keep. Finally, he charged his energy and cupped his hands together, intending to destroy his robotic counterpart once and for all. "You're finished!" he yelled, a yellow orb appearing in his hands. Mecha Sonic was still in shock over the sheer power he was witnessing from his hated nemesis.

But before Sonic could launch the beam, his transformation ended, reverting him from his Super Sonic state. A shocked expression was seen on his face as he was seemingly frozen in midair. "Well... That experience was pretty short lived..." he muttered before falling with a loud yell being heard.

Mecha Sonic grunted, "Curse you, Sonic! You will never leave this island alive!" he declared, he curled into a ball and appeared arop his death energy orb and kicked it down, intending to destroy the island once and for all.

Mario and Sonic fell, surprised to see the orb coming ever so closer to them and they screamed, speeding their descent as fast as they possibly could.

Standing on the ground were the other heroes: Luigi, Yoshi, and Shadow, the former two looking on scared and afraid of the outcome. With them was Professor E. Gadd, and the Yoshi Tribe, who also looked on in worry, whom they were trying to save. Shadow muttered to himself, "Hmmm... This is gonna be close..."

In Sonic's hand was the purple Chaos Emerald and he yelled, "Head's up, Shadow!" after that, he tossed the mystical gem downwards, hoping he'd catch it.

With his arm raised, the black hedgehog caught the emerald, a confident chuckle escaped his lips, "Heh heh. It's good to be back." he said before finishing things.

Time seemed to slow down as Shadow uses the power of the Chaos Emerald. Everything appeared to be photo-negative for Shadow as he muttered two words as loud as he could, bringing the emerald down and focused the energy, "Chaos... Control!"

And with that, Team Mario, the Yoshi Tribe, and E. Gadd vanished. But something went wrong, Mecha Sonic was caught in the vicinity in a white light and was somehow warped away too.

The death orb came down upon Yoshi's Island at last, destroying the island in a satisfying explosion. The Koopa Bros. atuck there all watched as their time finally ran out. "Oh no... dudes." Red Koopa gasped out before being taken by the energy ball.

Wherever everyone else went, they were not in the Mushroom Kingdom anymore.

Shadow remained still in the warp, casually walking away as Luigi and Yoshi froze in shock while Mario and Sonic were still in midair. Once they realized time was back to normal, the heroes fell flat on their faces, grunting with a thud. "Ow... Rough landing." groaned Sonic, sitting back up before getting to his feet.

The five noticed they were in a forest, deep within from what they could tell. The blue hedgehog folded his arms as his eyes narrowed, "Alright. Where are we, and where are the Yoshis? And E. Gadd for that matter?" he asked all at once.

Mario put a thumb and his index finger on his chin as he thought, "Hm..." he hummed. The red-clad plumber finally spoke to Sonic who responded simply.

"You don't recognize this place? Alright, then." Sonic faced his former rival, "Any clue what happened Shadow?"

Shadow growled, "I don't know, Sonic. I used Chaos Control as intended, but something must've happened in the warp. I still have the Chaos Emerald I used."

Sonic patted his body, but was unable to find anything, "What the--? The other emeralds are missing!" Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi gasped upon hearing his words while Shadow hissed.

"Darn it, Sonic. You had one job!"

Sonic was taken aback by his ally's words, "Calm down, Shadow. I'm not sure what happened. But at least we have one emerald, that means Mecha Sonic is still at a disadvantage."

Luigi gulped and said something to Mario, who nodded in agreement, relaying the message to Sonic, "Huh? Honestly, Mario, I'm not even sure what happened to Mecha Sonic. I'm hoping we're still in the Mushroom Kingdom at least, he's too dangerous to leave alone." he explained. The plumbers agreed on that.

The green dinosaur pointed, "Yoshi!"

"What is it, Yoshi?"

The team was standing neaby a river, and Yoshi noticed the calmness of it deter as the water began to move. Suddenly, a creature with three heads appeared out of it, roaring at the heroes. "Mama mia!" Luigi gulped, hiding behind his older brother, using his hat to shield his eyes.

"Oh! So somethin' crawled out of the woodworks huh?" Sonic said with confidence. The monster growled as it tried to bite the team, causing them to jump back in surprise. "Alright, looks like you're not the welcome wagon!"

Shadow sighed, "We don't have time for this!" he curled into a ball and hit the Hydra in the stomach with a Spin-Dash, knocking it back slightly. The black hedgehog flipped in midair, kicking one of the heads back as hard as he could. He landed, watching as Mario and Sonic stepped up.

Mario yelled, "Grr!" he revealed his hammer as he spun around, smacking two of the hydra's heads instantly. The plumber then kicked it and stomped on the third. "Wa-ha!" he cheered as loud as he could, recovering from the attack as Yoshi hovered, headbutting the creature as hard as he could.

Sonic used a Homing Attack, leading it directly into a bicycle kick which chained together upon the monster's chest. Another roar escaped its mouth as it tried to eat Sonic, but the hedgehog smirked, "Nope! Not lettin' ya do that, pal." he declared, flipping over its jaw before running down its neck.

Yoshi performed a Flutter Jump and constantly kicked the beast in its middle head. On the ground, Luigi gulped again, deciding to join the battle. The green-clad plumber leaped into the air and raised his hammer. Once Mario, Shadow and Sonic saw this, they decided to attack the creature at once,

Once they were all together, Yoshi slammed down upon one of the heads as hard as he could after doing another Flutter Jump. Mario and Luigi held onto each other and rolled onto the hydra's torso like a ball. Shadow threw a Chaos Spear upon the creature's back while Sonic performed a Spin-Dash and charged directly into its body. The sheer intensity of their combined efforts caused the hydra to moan in pain. The team landed back on the ground where they first started, seeing the monster retreat back into the waters from where it came.

The hedgehog blinked, "Well, that was a thing."

"Can we get back to the task at hand, now?" Shadow asked with a slight annoyed hiss.

Mario nodded and held out the Emerald Radar handheld, "Hm?"

"What's up, Mario?" Sonic asked.

"Oh, hello, gentlemen!" came an elder voice they recognized. "Can you read me?"

Sonic grinned, "Yo, professor. Where are you at?"

"I-I'm not too sure, Sonic. I appear to be in a civilization full of equines. I have never seen this in the Mushroom Kingdom, and I have travelled a lot." replied the professor through his usual gibberish.

The blue hedgehog nodded, "Alright then. We'll come find you soon enough. Any sign of the Yoshis?"

"They're not with you? Oh dear. You must hurry then. Then again, they appear to be a harmless race. At least you have the radar. I'll contact you if needed." said E. Gadd before signing off.

Mario said something to Sonic, who replied, "Yeah, something is off, Mario. But we're not gonna get answers by just standing here. We gotta see what's around here first."

"Fine. Then let's go." said Shadow, being the first to walk. The rest of the team followed behind him.
