Chapter 2: First Day at Canterlot High
Beams of sunlight shone through the windows of the skeleton's new home. Sans opened his eyes and saw the sun shine through the window. He then sat up and thought about what he dreamed last night. Only screams of agony and bloodshed were the only things that he ever dreamed about. He couldn't have normal and vivid dreams like normal people because of what he's gone through. It was rare to have sweet dreams like having a happy ending for once but instead, it was replaced by bleeding faces and screams of pain. Sans tried to forget the nightmares because those are the dreams he will be having until he gets rid of the kid.
It was a new day but this was the day that school has started. A week passed and Sans did nothing but just stay home and eat ketchup and burgers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He couldn't get his mind off of the things he's been dreaming lately but since today is a school day, he tried to shake it off his mind. He ate his usual meal, cleaned himself up and started to get ready for the day ahead of him. Since he knew Canterlot High's location, Sans just snapped his fingers and he ended up in a small forest which was near the school. He didn't like the idea of appearing near a crowd of students since he doesn't want to attract any unwanted attention to himself. Walking out of the trees, Sans made his way to the entrance of the school with his hoodie on. There he saw Canterlot High, where students were outside talking to their peers. Not to mention they were having a lively conversation with each other. Sans hid behind the horse statue in front of the school.
"here goes nothing", Sans said to himself as he walked carefully towards the entrance, head down, and tried to avoid eye contact with the students.
Some students began to murmur among themselves as to whom is the new student walking past them. As usual, he tried to avoid eye contact as much as possible to avoid any misunderstanding. He also noticed that all of them have colored skin. Some are cyan blue, purple, pink, creamy white and a LOT of others. They wore their preferred attire and Sans was relieved to see this because it means they don't have a specific school uniform to wear and they could wear anything they want. If they had a school uniform, Sans would have to do his laundry and he must iron his clothes. One of his weaknesses are WORKING so he wouldn't like it either.
Sans finally made his way up the stairs and just as he was about to push the door, someone from the opposite side pushed it first, causing him to recoil fast enough to avoid himself being slammed into the face. The person before him was shocked to see a short and pudgy figure that she almost slammed with. The girl had red and yellow strips on her hair, with lime eyes. She wore a red-violet shirt with an artistic sun design on it, an orange skirt and black boots.
"Oh. I'm very sorry. I didn't see you there. Are you hurt?", the girl said worryingly as she examined the being before him.
"i-i'm fine," Sans said softly, unsure what to do next since he can't look at the girl's eyes. If he looks at her, she might scream and the students might run and call the authorities to handle the situation. Sans can't have something like that. He remembered what Gaster told him:
Only remove it (the hoodie) when you are in the Principal's office.
"s-sorry. gotta go," Sans said as he ran away from the girl that was concerned about him. She just stood there in thought of what she just witnessed. She then heard a voice outside calling her name:
"SUNSEEEEETTTT!!! Over here!!"
"I'm coming, Pinkie."
Sans was now inside the school. He was lucky the girl didn't check his face. One look, everyone runs away. I guess that was normal for him due to the fact that he IS a monster physically but deep inside, he is just a skeleton who loves doing nothing and a master of puns. Sans now examined the hall where he was in. There were students walking around also so he kept his hoodie on and tried to avoid eye contact with anyone. Green lockers lined up the walls of the school. To Sans, it was like a maze. Endless hall of lockers in each corner he turns. While observing, Sans memorized each hall as to help him navigate more easily. There were also doors between the lockers which he guess that it leads to a room where everyone is supposed to go to class. Sans needed to find the Principal's office because he needed someone who would be willing to show him around the school, if possible, someone doesn't run away just by looking at a monster. In his mind, he thought: "What if the Principals don't accept me here? Well I would love the idea, as I love doing absolutely nothing." After minutes of wandering around, he found the Principal's office. It was different from all the doors he passed by. It was labeled "PRINCIPALS OFFICE".
"well that was easy. i just had to find it. i'm so proud of myself," Sans gave himself a pat on the shoulder. He turned the knob slowly and entered cautiously as he doesn't want to cause any trouble. The walls were filled with intricate patterns that make the room interesting to look at. There were bookshelves with organized books, a glass that provided cover for the trophies behind it and a small desk. His attention was suddenly turned to the woman behind the desk. The principal had cream-colored skin and purplish-red eyes with hair colors of both light blue and green and a color of pink. She had a document in front of her which she was reading and she began to speak as soon Sans entered the room.
"Hello. How may I help you?", the principal asked as she still continued to read the document, not diverting her attention to the skeleton who was standing before her. Sans removed his hoodie and spoke.
"uhmm, heya lady. the name's sans, sans the skeleton. i'm new here so i was wondering if you could show me the ropes around this place?"
"What was your name ag-......?", as soon as the principal put the document down and looked at 'him', she froze in her place and examined this short skeleton. She was short, in fact, he was around the height of 4'. The two just stared at each other for a few moments and Sans spoke again, reiterating what he just said.
"the name's sans. sans the skeleton. put it right here,' Sans answered as he pulled out his left hand and offered it to the principal. "don't you know how to greet a new pal? just shake my hand, lady. i won't bite," Sans said to the principal who was shocked in place. The principal then spoke:
"It's nice to meet y-," As the principal shook the seemingly-friendly skeleton's hand, a fart noise emerged from the skeleton's hand and the skeleton chuckled at this.
"heheh. the old whoopee cushion in the hand trick. works every time."
The principal was surprised to see that this someone managed to pull a prank on her like that. In all her life as a principal, she never experienced that kind of greeting before. Maybe it was the skeleton's way of meeting a new person whom they just met. The principal found this amusing and started to laugh silently.
Sans saw this and said, "well at least someone has a sense of humor. thanks, lady." After that, the principal started to converse with him.
"I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch your name, Mr. ----?"
"the name's sans, sans the skeleton but you can call me sans."
"My name is Principal Celestia. As you may know already, I am the school principal here and I do not work alone. Vice Principal Luna, who is my younger sister, also helps me by being there for me. Whenever there are problems I can't handle, she will be there by my side to assist me. Right now she is in her own office."
"heh. can't wait to meet her," Sans said with a smile.
"So Sans, what brings you here to CHS?
"dad-ster enrolled me here. he said that this place was the best school for me so he kinda went for it." Sans explained.
"anyways, you don't mind me being around here, do you? you know, 'cause i'm a monster and all?"
The school never had a monster student before. It was all just normal students until Twilight Sparkle and her friends transformed into ponified versions of themselves during the Fall Formal. Nothing was the same ever again since that event. Now there is a skeleton monster enrolled at CHS for some reason.
"Your father enrolled you here? Well, he certainly made the best choice yet. I'm sure you will have a great time here but first let me check if you're on the list of new students."
The principal went back to reading her document before and searched for the list of "New Students". After searching a list of names, she found the name "Sans" and his educational fees were fully paid by a strange name.
"I see that you are fully paid by uhhhmm.... Gaster? Is he your father Sans?", the principal asked.
"uhhh... yeah. he was," Sans remembered that Gaster was no longer with him. No one to help or talk with him. Gaster was gone for good.
"I'm..... sorry Sans. Whatever happened to your father, you have my condolences," Principal Celestia said as she tried to comfort the sad skeleton as he began to be awfully quiet the moment she said his father's name.
"thanks. but you don't have to be sorry. it's my problem to deal with, not yours."
"As a principal, it is my sole duty to care for my students here at CHS. Sans, since you're new here, I will call someone to give you a tour of this school so you will be able to navigate your way around easily. Does that sound good to you Sans?", the principal offered her assistance to him as she would like to help him because of his loss. She would at least try to help this poor skeleton who has come here to--- maybe find new friends? Rest assured, he came to the right place and Celestia knows a few known students who can help him start a new chapter of friendship.
"I'm also taking 'no' for an answer Sans.", the principal said in a stern tone.
"ok, ok. geez. i guess i don't have a choice, do i?"
"Very well. I will now call her to give you the tour of the school. Thank you for your cooperation, Sans." Principal Celestia said with beaming smile.
Sans returned a grin. He knew that he needed help and now he has someone who can trust. He hated humans, especially the kid, by backstabbing him and killed everyone he deeply cared. Now, he sees that not all humans are traitors. The lady behind the desk showed sympathy and care for him after everything he's been through. Whatever is waiting for him next, he is prepared because he had someone he can count on.
"Are you going to be alright Sans? I mean here, in this school. I want to make sure that your first day will be enjoyable. I don't want anything bad to occur," the principal said worryingly.
Sans replied with that grin on his face, "don't worry. i'm going TIBIA okay."
Principal Celestia giggled at the skeleton's pun. She has never heard a joke in a while. A good laugh could always cheer her up.
"Ohhhh Sans." Celestia sighed.
"heheheh. i know my jokes are bad. they aren't that 'humerus'. Sans with another pun and gave a wink at Celestia.
Celestia laughed like it was the best joke she's ever heard in a while. She knew that things will be much more interesting now there's a comical skeleton in school. She could tell that Sans was a very BONEY joke teller.
=OUTSIDE OF CANTERLOT HIGH=
Sunset Shimmer, please come to the principal's office.
"Called to the office again? For what reason?"
"Don't worry, Sugarcube. Ah' reckon that it ain't somethin' bad. At least ah hope not."
"Ohhh... I hope you're not in trouble Sunset."
"I'll be fine girls. Maybe Celestia needed me for something important and besides, I didn't do anything wrong recently. "Well, see you girls later."
"Alright, Celestia. What do you want with me now?"
