Chapter 3: A 'SANS'-ational Tour

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Sunset made her way to the principal's office as to what Celestia would need her. Few minutes later, she arrived at the door and heard someone... laugh behind it. Sunset recognized this voice as Celestia's voice, who is laughing uncontrollably. She thought, "What is making her laugh? What could poss-?", she then heard an unfamiliar voice saying:

"... that's why he built a skullpture of him."

Sunset heard a high-pitched laugh from Celestia, who sounds as if her mentor's counterpart had been reduced of air. She never heard Principal Celestia laugh so hard before. Someone must be really good at starting up a conversation, especially when that someone likes making bad puns. Sunset held the door knob and turned it slowly and entered. There, she saw Principal Celestia laughing and snorting at the unfamiliar person before her desk. Sunset began to speak up:

"Principal Celestia, is there anything you need from me?" Sunset asked.

Principal Celestia saw Sunset and started to calm down from laughing so hard. There were a few tears in her eyes so she wiped them off. After settling down at last, Celestia spoke.

"Oh, Sunset. You made it. I guess you know why I called you here."

Sunset diverted her attention to the small and pudgy skeleton before Celestia's desk. It wore a blue jacket and black shorts with white strips on it. In addition, it wore pink and fluffy slippers and it seems that a big smile was on the skeleton's face. Sunset was weirded out at first and she just stood in place. While Sunset was still trying to process what was before her, the skeleton walked to her and held out his hand.

"heya bud. i guess we haven't been properly introduced, but since you're here, you can make it up to me by shaking my hand."

The skeleton then winked at Celestia for some reason, causing Sunset to wonder what made him do that.

"Hi. My name is Sunse--," she was stopped at mid-sentence as a fart sound emerge from the room causing both the skeleton and Principal Celestia to laugh.

"another one has fell for it. got ya' pal. heheh..," the skeleton chuckled and at the same time, the principal snickered.

"We apologize for the prank, Sunset. I just needed a good laugh every once in a while. By the way, meet Sans, Sans the skeleton." Celestia said with a happy tone in her voice.

Sans looked at the principal, shocked at what she just said. "Hey, come on lady. That's my line."

"Sorry Sans, but this time let me be the first to introduce our first monster student here at Canterlot High."

Sunset tried to remember what Celestia just said. "A monster student, here at CHS?" She was shocked and Sans could tell just by looking at her.

"Uhhh.... it's fine if you don't want to show me around. i can find go by myself."

Sunset traced back to her own senses and spoke to Sans. "What? I didn't say that. I was just... surprised. That's all."

"you sure pal?", Sans asked.

"I'm very sure, Sans and besides, I'll be happy to show you around. Since it's your first time here, I might consider avoiding drawing too much attention to yourself. I mean try not to be too friendly as it could lead to you know...a misunderstanding."
Sunset said.

"don't worry sunny. as a matter of fact, i prefer to be 'bonely'.

Sunset ignored what Sans just nicknamed her and after thinking carefully, an idea popped into her mind.

"Say Sans, if I give you the chance to meet my friends here, would it bother you?" Sunset asked.

Sans wondered why she would ask such a question. He doesn't really know what to say about this. A monster among humans. The first thing that pops in Sans' head was that the minute he makes a first impression, everyone would just run away. That's how humans work: one good look at a monster and they would either run nor fight, but not all of them. This lady she just met just asked him if he wanted to be friends with her. Sans thought of this carefully, as he would only place his trust to someone who doesn't break a promise. After seconds of thinking, Sans spoke again.

"i guess it wouldn't hurt.."

"Great. We'll meet them after the tour is over." Sunset looked at the clock placed just above the door. It was 11:00 am. One hour left until lunchtime, she thought.

"Thank you Sunset for being here. Not everyone here at CHS is willing to accept this task. I hope that you will take care of everything for him and make sure that he will have a great time here," Celestia said with eyes full of hope.

Sunset looked at Celestia with reassurance in her eyes. She is to make sure that Sans needed to be feel welcomed as an individual monster studying at Canterlot High.

"No worries, Celestia. I am always happy to help especially when it comes from a principal," Sunset said with a smile.

"I'm very grateful that you're here Sunset. Now, go along," Celestia replied with glee.

As Sunset and Sans walked out of the principal's office, Sans looked at the bacon-haired girl and spoke:

"your principal sure is nice and not to mention, quite the looker," Sans said with a big smile.

"Yeah, she is... and don't try anything flirty with the ~~Princes~~- I mean Celestia," Sunset replied with hesitation.

"huh, what did you just say?"

"Nothing, nothing. Shall we begin the tour?"

Sans knew something is up with Sunset. The fact that she nearly said 'Princess' made her hesitate and changed it. Indeed, there is something odd with the bacon-haired girl. Sans decided not to bring it up. "Maybe later," Sans thought.

"yeah, sure. lead the way, Sunny and don't worry" the skeleton replied with a smile.

"Great. Let's go," Sunset said in a jolly tone and she started the tour with Sans following behind her.

LIBRARY

Sunset and Sans entered the library. Shelves that are properly organized with a wide range of books in many fields of study, internet access for students. It has big tables for discussion groups and for self use too. It provides very good environment for full concentration in readings and research.

"Here is the library where you know, get books and study. Computers for research and a good place to sleep..."

Sans, with eyes wide open, was pleased to hear this. "this school's not half bad. i already like it here," said the comical skeleton in thought.

"... But don't sleep here when class hours are on-going. The librarian will kick you out and you will get detention for skipping classes," Sunset continued.

"okay. i'll make sure to keep that in mind." 'So much for being the best place to pass time,' Sans shrugged.

The two explored the two-floored library, the ups' and down's. Nothing too much to look at. Just books lined up in shelves which were organized into categories in different subjects which impressed Sans who was just amazed at the sight of clean and organized books.

"man, i wish my room's clean like this. but too lazy." Sans said to himself.

"So Sans, you like reading books?" Sunset questioned the small, pudgy skeleton.

"well, before I read books about quantum physics. after quite some time, i gave up reading 'cause i'm too lazy," Sans said.

"Oh, I see. I guess you have some knowledge about science. Well, that's quite impressive Sans if I do say so myself," Sunset replied with a surprised look on her face.

"thanks. i read a book about anti-gravity once.... it was impossible to put down," Sans chuckled..

Sunset giggled and smiled at the small skeleton's pun. She was relieved to have someone who was good at making puns.
"I guess Pinkie needs to step up her game now," Sunset said in thought.

"Nice one, Sans. Since we're done here, I guess we should book it huh?" Sunset joked as Sans looked at her and chuckled again.

"you are good. i guess you're right. let's go pal." Sans said as they both exited the library still laughing at each other's jokes.

HALLWAYS

The red-yellow haired girl and the small, pudgy skeleton roamed the hallways of CHS, with Sunset showing Sans the green lockers placed on the walls and classrooms between the lockers. Other students are just staring at the two especially the one beside Sunset. They find it odd as to why a monster is here and the students began to murmur among themselves.
Sans and Sunset saw this and ignored them. Sunset showed the classrooms to Sans.

"So, this is the classroom. This is where you will spend your whole day during class hours."

"Ughh.... class. sorry, sunset but i have a medical condition...," Sans said reluctantly.

"What?", Sunset replied with her right eyebrow raised.

"old laziness. it ruins my character."

Sunset chortled at Sans, knowing that he just made up his own sickness. But it was true. Classes can be really boring when it comes to lecturing. Students just stare at the teacher pretending to know they know the subject. They're like an eager beaver. You just smile while knowing that you have no idea what the teacher is talking about. Students prefer looking at the clock just to pass the time.

"That's not even a real disease, Sans," Sunset replied.

"i prefer sleeping, but i better watch out. the teacher might find me a person of into-rest."

Sunset giggled and told him: "Okay Sans. That's enough."

"what? i could do it with my eyes closed," Sans still continued with a wink.

Sunset still laughing. "Please Sans, s-stop. Hahahaha...."

"hahhhh. i never get tired of it sunny," Sans said refusing to stop.

"Okay Sans. Please stop. You're gonna embarrass me by making me laugh so hard," Sunset said as she wiped a tear from her eye and still laughing.

"okay. i'll stop."

"Th-Thanks Sans. It's nice to finally have someone who has a sense of humor and knows how to give a laugh," Sunset said with thanks.

"oh it's nothing. it's what i do best sunset. so, shall we continue?"

"Of course. Let's go."

GYMNASIUM

Sunset showed Sans the gymnasium. A large hall where the school holds its gym classes and school functions. It features a stage, at least two double-door entrances, large windows similar to the ones in the Canterlot Castle ballroom, a large floor suitable for playing sports, and a supply closet for storing sports equipment and cleaning supplies.

"wow this place is huge. what do you do here?"

"Well, we use it for the physical education subject and we use it as a party place whenever there is a special occasion like the Canterlot Ball."

"what's that?", Sans asked.

"Well, it's an event where students wear formal attire and they would have to dance with their chosen partner," Sunset replied to him.

"i'll pass."

"What? Why? You don't know how to dance?", Sunset asked as if she were challenging the skeleton.

"it's not that. and no, i don't dance. it's just not my thing. also, if you haven't noticed already, i'm a monster remember? i prefer to take things easy," Sans replied with a shrug.

"If that is what you want Sans. Also this where all the students gather if Celestia announced something important. We also do our gym classes here. Sports like basketball, dodgeball, and others sporty stuff," Sunset said as she explained the gymnasium.

"dodgeball? hmmm... from the sound of it, it's really sporty isn't it?"

"You have no idea. Some students get hit by the ball easily and there are others who last much longer, but there is one who really turns the tables."

"and who that might be?", Sans questioned.

"Rainbow Dash. She is one my friends and needless to say, she really puts up a competition. She is fast enough to dodge incoming dodgeballs that were thrown hard on her. She can last up for a good 10 minutes until she tires out. Not only that, she also excels in other sports."

Sans was impressed by this. "she sure is something, huh? can't wait to meet her," the skeleton said.

"Don't worry Sans. We'll be meeting her very soon. She can be full of herself sometimes, but I assure you, she'll be there when you need her. That's what makes her a loyal friend."

"loyal, huh? well, good to hear," Sans replied while remembering the kid back in the Underground. They still might be looking for a way to find him as to why Gaster told him that they didn't went to level 20. Sans also remembered that there is an advantage here but he still doesn't know what it is. He just has to wait and see and hope that it will pay off in the final face off.

"Uhhhh..... Sans? You okay? You suddenly went quiet. Is there something wrong?", Sunset replied with worry.

Sans reclaimed his senses and spoke to Sunset again. "oh, sorry. i was just thinking of other....... things. are we ready to move on?"

"Okay let's go," Sunset replied.

BAND ROOM

Sunset and Sans made their way to the band room and entered. The walls are decorated with music symbols such as treble clefs and staffs with notes on them. It contains some shelves with sheet music on it, a drum kit in the center of the room, an electric keyboard plugged into a wall, and shelves holding various musical instruments, including a saxophone, some percussion instruments such as a tambourine and a pair of maracas, as well as an acoustic guitar handing from a wall hanger and a triangle hanging from the ceiling, in addition to some instruments on the floor such as a conga drum and a xylophone.

"So this is the band room. Basically, it's where we play instruments," Sunset explained.

"What instrument do you play, Sans?"

"welp, i play the trom-BONE. it's my favorite," Sans joked as Sunset giggled.

"so, what do you play sunny?"

"I play the electric guitar."

"nice," Sans replied with an impressed look.

Sunset had a question in her head that popped up. She forgot to ask him where did he come from. It was really odd that a monster would just show up one day and appear in school. "Maybe from Equestria? No, I don't think so. Plus he's a skeleton. If he were from Equestria, the portal should've turned him into a human like me," Sunset thought and decided to ask Sans about his appearance here at CHS.

"So Sans, I've been meaning to ask you something ever since you came here."

"huh, what is it sunny?", Sans asked in confusion.

"Where did you exactly come from?", Sunset finally asked.

As soon as Sans heard this, his eyes were as black as the void. His pupils disappeared as he began to look at Sunset, dead serious. Sunset took a step back with fear in her eyes. Sans took a few steps toward Sunset and stopped.

"you really wanna know why i'm here? you're not gonna like it pal, unless you wanna risk it. it could disturb you," Sans said in a deeper tone of voice.

Sunset was afraid to speak up, knowing that Sans was serious about this. "I shouldn't have asked that question. What were you thinking Sunset?", Sunset regretted herself in thought.

"Well, if you don't wanna talk about, I-Its fine," Sunset still shivering at Sans' dark, empty eyes.

Sans blinked at there was his two white pupils again. He returned to his normal self after that question which disturbed him.

"sorry bud. i guess i took it too far. well, if you wanna know the whole story, swing by my house later after school. if you want, you can bring your friends too," Sans said in his normal voice.

Sunset still trying to assess the situation on what just happened. She is still shivering at the way Sans just acted to her. He sure is scary as hell when he gets serious. Sunset was very sure not to get on his serious side ever again. Sans then wrote his address on a piece of paper and gave it to Sunset.

"Uhhh.... thanks, Sans. I'm sorry for bringing that question up, and note.... you sure are terrifying when your eyes are empty," Sunset replied still shivering a bit.

"eh sorry. i just do it when i'm really serious."

As the conversation ended, the school bell rang. It was finally lunchtime. After all the puns and touring, it was finally over. Sunset had a good time with the comical skeleton. She gave her laughs and it certainly made the tour more fun and interesting at the same time. Sunset was still unsure what is the origin of Sans and why is he here. She will find out soon.

"So Sans, did you enjoy the tour?", Sunset asked with a smile.

"sure did. i got the gist of everything. thanks for showing me around sunset. at least you're willing to help a skeleton like me. you don't get see this everyday in your life, do you? i guess not. welp, since its lunchtime, i guess it's time to grab some grub," Sans said as he walked to the door and opened it.

"you comin' sunny?"

"Coming."

Sunset knew that this school year is going to be very interesting.
