Last Chance
Chapter 5: Dark Past Unveiled (Part 1)
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSans made his way to Celestia for a list of his class schedule. Thoughts run through his head as he tries to think straight, not letting his fears of everyone dying overtake him. As he was clearly not paying attention to the direction he's walking, he bumped into someone, causing him to snap from his senses and look at the person he just walked into. The person before her had both moderate sapphire hair with grayish persian blue flowing through her hair. She had light bluish gray skin, moderate opal eyes with a light grayish magenta eyeshadow. Her attire consists of a light violet shirt, dark purple pants and
violet and white shoes. She began to speak with authority:
"Doth not know where thy going?," said the light blue skinned figure before her.
Sans just stood there in confusion as he didn't understand the dialect she just spoke. Maybe she used the English language before, the language used to show formality. The lady before her laid fingers under her chin and spoke again:
"Hmmm... perhaps Modern English? Yes?"
"yup. with all respect lady, i didn't understand the language you just said," Sans replied with an eyebrow raised.
"It is fine, young one. May I know who am I speaking to?", the woman asked.
"the name's sans. sans the skeleton, but you can call me sans. pleased to meet 'ya," Sans said as he once again offered his left hand for another prank.
"Pleased to-," the woman stopped at her sentence as the sound of a fart can be heard from shaking the skeleton's hand.
"heh heh heh. that never fails," Sans said as he chuckled.
The woman, who stood there with eyes wide open, was surprised and she just went along with it by giggling.
"welp, thanks lady," Sans replied with a grin.
"Your greeting is quite amusing, I must say. No one has ever done something like that before. Anyways, my name is Luna, Vice Principal Luna."
Sans, with eyesockets wide open, was surprised to finally meet the Principal's little sis. He must say, she's also quite the looker same with Celestia.
"you're the one celly told me about. well, hey again," Sans said.
"Yes. I heard that my big sister had someone new here at CHS. Never thought it'd be you, young one. She said something about you being different from the others. Well, that I could see now....," replied Luna.
"And please, address her as Principal Celestia or Celestia to show your formality. I am the only allowed to nickname her as we are sisters," continued Luna
"sorry......and you're not at all scared by this?", Sans said as he was pertaining to his figure.
"Why should I, Sans? You seem like an innocent youth to me. Plus, my sister said that you would be the funny type. You made her laugh, right? Well, personally, I would like to see how well you would execute your witticism to us," Luna replied with a smile.
"heh. no problem. i'm like the walking joke book, if i do say so myself," Sans said as he tapped his chest with his hand.
Luna snickered at this and she will soon find out how much this skeleton will prove his pride in executing his profession at being comical. She observed that there is more to this skeleton than meets the eye. Sure, he may be funny and friendly on the outside, but deep inside, there is something bothering him. Just as she find it odd that a monster would just randomly appear out of nowhere to enroll. Such curiosity was in the vice principal's mind.
"anyways, i'm just on my way to get a list of my classes to attend," Sans said.
"Oh, right. My sister wanted me to give you this personally, so that I could see you for myself," Luna said as she gave Sans a sheet of paper which was the list that Sans was supposed to get from Celestia.
"woah. thanks uhh.. vice principal luna was it?"
"Correct, but you can call me Luna as of now," Luna replied with a glee in her smile.
"thanks, luna. it was nice talking with 'ya. now i need to get to..... history class. ughhh...", Sans grunted.
"Well, better hurry Sans. You don't want to be late for class, do you?"
"well, i'd rather stay here and crack up some jokes at you but i guess that's a no, huh?", Sans asked.
"Perhaps, but everyone needs to work. Now go along," Luna said.
"yeah. i'll make sure i'm a 'BONE-afied' skeleton," Sans chuckled.
Luna giggled as Sans went on to his first class. They waved at each other and continued on to their doing.
'What a humerus, skeleton.... Luna placed her hand on her mouth, knowing that she just made a pun and laughed a bit.
Sans examined his schedule for the school year ahead of him. He also noticed a small piece of paper stapled at the top left corner of his schedule. A few words were written:
"Here's the combination and your locker number is 375, Sans. Have a nice day."
-Celestia
"heh. thanks lady," Sans chuckled.
Sans made his way to the locker and entered the combination given to him. He opened and saw a bunch of books, piled on top the other on the floor of the locker. He grabbed the history book and headed to his first class. On the way, he saw students enter to their required class one by one. As he passes each classroom, students quickly entered into their room, as if they don't want to be stay any longer with that roaming around. Sans doesn't really care about this because who is he to blame them? If he were they, wouldn't he feel the same way towards monsters?
He finally found the History class, which was only a few walks from his locker. He sighed heavily, preparing as to what is behind the door. Turning the doorknob and opened it, he was greeted by glances of students. Some were weirded out, uncomfortable looks and he could tell that some are having fear in their eyes. His facial reading skills still works and he walked in. In front, there was a figure which had grayish harlequin eyes, hair colored in moderate and light cerise and her skin coated in pale, light greyish cerise. Her attire is made up of a white shirt with a collar and a moderate green shirt overlaying, dark and light green skirt with sunflowers printed on it, light green socks and brown boots with green laces. She walked up to Sans and spoke:
"Hi there! Welcome to History Class, my name is Miss Cheerilee and I'll be the subject teacher for the class. And you are?", Cheerilee asked as she held out her hand.
"oh man. this is gonna be good," Sans thought.
"the name's sans. sans the skeleton," Sans greeted as he too offered his hand to Cheerilee. As their hands made contact, a fart sounded which was loud enough for the class to hear and they began to laugh. Sans chuckled and Cheerilee was just surprised.
"You seem to be quite the comedian, aren't you? Well, we could use some laughs around here," Cherilee said with a smile.
"eh. no problem. i could live up to the name as "most funny" award, don'tcha think?", Sans replied with a wink.
"We shall see," Cheerilee giggled.
"Now go find a seat somewhere. We're about to start."
Sans did what Cheerilee told him to do and as he passed by the students, they just looked at him with a smile. Sans smiled back and he found his seat. He sat down and began to prepare for the lecturing which he really he doesn't pay attention to. The class went on for an hour and Sans was just trying to stay awake the whole time but he gave up and ended up sleeping anyways after 10 minutes into the lesson. He'd rather listen to science class than this backstory of humans going into war. Sans already knew this before, he just doesn't want to bring it up again. After an hour, the school bell rang and it was time for everyone to go home. As Sans left the room and walk to his locker, he was now thinking how is he going to tell the girls about the whole demon child problem. He doesn't want to panic the girls into thinking that they're all gonna die, which is a big possibility in Sans' book. They might blame him for existing in the first place, if he didn't come here, then they would live a happy and normal life. Sans is now balancing the pro's and cons of the situation, figuring out the possible outcome of this life and death situation. Only time will tell when the real fight is about to begin.
"should i really tell them or leave them and let me handle this problem? i guess they deserve the truth. i don't want them to be unprepared of what is coming. they don't deserve to die like my friends," Sans said in thought.
He made it to his locker, placed the book inside and went outside to meet the girls, still bothered about the whole everyone-will-die problem.
"Where is this skeleton? We've been waiting for like hours," Rainbow argued.
"Don't worry, Rainbow. Ah'm sure he'll be here any time now," Applejack said.
"And besides, he's new here. Don't pressure him," Sunset added.
"Fine," Rainbow replied.
"So, Sunset. What do you think about the Sans?", Twilight asked.
"Well, he seems to be a nice guy. Not to mention, funny," Sunset giggled.
"Mhmmm. Me and Sans might be the perfect comical duo," Pinkie said with a huge smile.
"That you're right, Pinkie," Rarity replied.
All the girls laughed and they conversed with each other once again. After a few minutes, Sans went outside and saw the girls, which were busy talking with each other. He walked up to them and they saw him.
"so, you girls ready?"
"Uhhh... yeah we are!", Rainbow exclaimed.
"ok. let's go then," Sans said as he and the girls started to head for his new home. He was ahead of them and they were conversing like normal people would do, but Sans just kept going. Not trying to start a conversation until they're all at his place. He just kept wondering how is he going to stop the kid and how the girls are gonna take the news. He was just silent, not minding anyone's business. Minutes later, they arrived at his place. They all went inside and looked at the place. It was just right for everyone to move around, not too cramp or not too wide.
"make yourselves at home," Sans insisted.
"Don't mind if we do," Rainbow smiled.
Sunset, Fluttershy, Twilight and Rarity sat down on the couch while AppleJack, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie were examining the place which was pretty decent for a skeleton.
"Nice place you got here, Sans. You bought it?," Applejack asked.
"nope. got it from my dad," Sans replied as he took out a bottle of ketchup from the fridge and sat down in one of those tall chairs in the dining room.
"WHAT?! You're father gave you this place? Much generosity, if I do say so myself," Rarity said in shock..
"You're dad must be pretty successful," Twilight added.
"yeah...", there was a long pause by Sans and after taking a small gulp from the ketchup, he finally said:
"he was."
The girls were horrified at what Sans just said. They looked at him with sympathy, compassion and care, as if the skeleton had been gone through a lot and he did. Sans looked at them also for a few seconds, placed the ketchup away and laid his head on his side on his right arm.
"I'm.... sorry.... Sans. If there's any-," Twilight was soon stopped as Sans interrupted her.
"save your breath, kid. it's my problem, not yours," Sans replied.
"Look Sans, we just want to help. We all know you're having a tough time here, having lost a father and being... alone. We don't know what you've been through lately but we are here Sans. If you need help, just approach us," Sunset said as the other girls nodded.
Sans sighed heavily at what Sunset just said and he showed off a small grin. The girls also gave him a smile.
"well, you can start helping me by telling me who you really are," Sans said as he sat down on a chair facing the rectangular table where the notes from Gaster are.
The girls exchanged looks with one another in confusion, but Sans knew something was different and they couldn't fool him. He knew something was odd with the girls when he met them. He can see it in their faces.
"come on. it's not like i'm gonna bite or anything," Sans chuckled.
"Well.... shoot, where to start," Applejack said pondering.
"i suggest... starting from the beginning. it could help you remember everything."
"Well, I guess he deserves the truth. Everyone at CHS knows and he's the only who doesn't," Twilight said as she fixed her eyeglasses.
"We've been through a lot too and we've come a long way, huh girls?" Sunset said as she glanced to other girls and they all nodded.
"this'll be interesting. so, if you're ready, you can start," Sans said with a grin.
Sunset breathed in and out and began to tell everything that has happened.
"Okay. So let's start where Twilight first came to this world."
The whole story went on for hours as Sunset and the girls didn't want to leave any details. They all shared their stories, from defeating Sunset Shimmer at the Fall Formal, to defeating the Sirens at the Battle of the Bands, to meeting the human Twilight at the Friendship Games and finally, to defeating Gaia Everfree from trapping everyone. It was the first time that Sans didn't fell asleep in a conversation. He listened to every story, every adventure these girls had. It sure was a lot to take in but he got everything. Sunset also told Sans about the geodes they got from the camp. It gave them powers which was the part where Sans was interested the most. He got every detail about the pendants they wore and their abilities. After that lengthy story, Sans processed all the information in his head and sighed.
"okay. so, you got these um... geodes from camp?"
"Yeah," Dash explained, "And whenever we wear them we got these awesome powers and outfits."
"Ah, those garments," Rarity cut in, "Those were simply marvelous and stunning."
"but some of you aren't wearing the pendant things..."
"Don't worry Sans. We can still access our powers still the same. The geodes weren't necessarily needed to be wore. After a years of wearing them, they became a part of us. It became a permanent thing," Sunset explained.
"hmmm.. it got used to its host. interesting, but where did the geodes come from?", Sans with a brow raised.
"Who cares? It gave us these awesome superpowers," Rainbow said with her arms crossed and a smile formed in her face.
The other girls shook their heads. "We still have no idea where these things came from," Sunset answered.
"maybe from another world, where this pony twilight came from," Sans in thought.
"Since our story's been told, how about you Sans? Tell us your side of the story," Twilight asked as the girls also were prepared to listen.
"since you're all eager to listen, i guess there's no point in holding back anymore," Sans shrugged.
The girls looked at each other in confusion as Sans used his psychokinesis to open the fridge and grab seven burgs so they could eat. Eyes wide open, they were appalled at the floating burgs on the air, and it made their way to the microwave near the sink.
"while that's heating up, i guess it's story time."
They looked back at Sans, amazed as to what he just did.
"How....did....you....do....that?" Sunset asked in awe.
"you do know you could say that in one complete sentence. the answer is psychokinesis by the way and that's not the only thing i can do."
"Are there any more?"
"i can summon bones. normal ones and blue ones. blue ones are... let's say, stop signs. if you get hit by this type of bone, don't move it won't hurt. move and it'll hurt you," Sans explained and after, the microwave gave a small beep, telling Sans it was time to chow down. He opened the microwave and distributed the burgers to the girls.
"chow down. time to eat."
"Um...Aren't you going to eat, Sans?" Fluttershy asked.
"nah. i could get some myself anytime. besides, not hungry cause i'm all bones here," Sans said with a wink.
"Oh, ok," Fluttershy replied with a soft giggle.
"so where were we? oh, blue bones right. just imagine them as blue stop signs," Sans said.
As the girls took a bite out of their burgers, they continued to ask questions to the small skeleton.
"Are bones and psychokinesis your only abilities?", asked Twilight.
"nope. actually, i use my other two when things get really serious," Sans explained.
"Can you show us?", Sunset asked.
Sans put his hands together behind his back and folded his right leg on the left one and laid back on the seat. He snapped his fingers and out comes a small shaped-like monster skull which was the size of his head.
"OH! What a cutie!", Fluttershy squeed.
"heh. i call this a 'gasterblaster'. hence the name, it came from my dad's. he created this because it was one of his greatest creations ever. i can summon many more just like this, each with their sheer and massive size."
Sans snapped his fingers again, this time a normal sized gasterblaster appeared in front of them. Luckily, it was fitting enough inside the house and Sans was relieved as he didn't plan it out this way.
"not to mention, they can pack a punch. meaning, get hit by one, and you'll see yourself lying in a hospital bed," Sans said.
The girls stopped at what they're doing and gave Sans a petrified look, especially Fluttershy. She whimpered quietly in her seat and she covered her face with her light-pink, silky hair. Sans saw this and he felt ashamed for saying that his blasters were a killing machine, not caring about their size, big or small. He snapped his fingers and summoned a small Gasterblaster and it snuggled Fluttershy to make her feel comfortable. The shy girl cuddled the small blaster and she felt normal and happy again.
"so. back to what i was saying. i could summon large quantities of these but it can take a toll on my magic usage. too much use can quickly drain me."
The girls were very interested, yet at the same time frightened at what this small, comical skeleton can do. Size doesn't matter at all as long they have something up their sleeve.
"So, what's your last ability?", Rainbow asked.
"first, i need a volunteer."
No one raised their hand because they were too scared of what Sans can do except Sunset. She was eager to find out what this unknown ability that Sans can do. As so, Sunset raised her hand.
"I'll do it", Sunset answered.
The others were in complete shock, as she was the only brave one to do this. They gave her worried looks but Sunset glared at them with eyes of reassurance, knowing that Sans will have no intention of hurting her or anyone.
"okay then. your SOUL might feel a little heavy when I pick you up," Sans said.
"Wait, what do you mean?", Sunset asked.
"watch."
Sans closed his eyes and opened them, revealing a glowing light blue and yellow eye on his left. The room began to feel dimmed but the girls could still see each other. The room was like a cinema. Sans held out his hand and out of Sunset's chest came a glowing yellow heart. "that's your SOUL, the culmination of your being. justice huh.. never really saw any more of them. protect it at all costs because everyone needs their SOULs alive right? now i'm gonna turn it blue so i could demonstrate by ability well. you might feel heavier, but that's the point. now, i'm going to slowly lift you up." Sans raised his hand slowly and up goes Sunset Shimmer. She was floating in mid-air as the girls were in complete amazement and shock.
"i call this SOUL manipulation. basically, it turns the host's SOUL blue and i can move it whenever i want. meaning, i control their SOUL until i want stop. this tires me out much faster so i gonna use it when its necessary," Sans explained.
"okay, i'm gonna put you down now."
Sunset felt uneasy at first, but she was normal again. "Well, I do feel heavy when you lifted me. I've never seen that kind of magic before. Must have come from your dad, right?"
"yeah."
"i also have this ability called karmic retribution. it turns your sins against you. when you hurt others, your karma increases which allows my attacks to hurt even more. it doesn't kill the enemy completely but it brings them down to only 1 HP left. so, if you're a pacifist kind of person, my attacks would have less of an effect of hurting the opponent," Sans explained.
"So in short, don't hurt anyone," Pinkie added.
"not saying that i'm trying to prevent you from hurting others. of course, you need to defend yourselves right? if it's of good intention, then it's fine."
"Ohhhh..... okay," Pinkie said with a smile.
"So.....ah guess we're not the only ones now with crazy magical powers," Applejack chuckled.
"i guess not. i can also do 'shortcuts'."
"You can do what now?", Twilight asked in puzzlement.
"watch."
He observed his surroundings and saw Pinkie Pie near the refrigerator. "hey, pinkie. who's that behind you?"
The pink haired girl tilted her head, confused with a raised eyebrow and when she turned around, to her surprise, Sans was there behind her. Pinkie, including the others had their jaws dropped with a look of bewilderment.
"Whaa.... H-how d-did you?", Twilight stuttered.
"heheh. guess."
"You can teleport? That...is.....AWESOME!", Rainbow squeed.
"yup, you guessed it. teleportation. well you know how it works, you get from point a to point b. to be blunt, it's not easy. you have to memorize the map values or coordinates of your desired location. once you have this ability, you'll start seeing numbers which indicates the specific coordinates of where you are. it took me ages to map the whole Underground so in short, useful but a pain."
"Underground? Is that where you came from?," Sunset asked.
"yeah. it's where all the other monsters including me live, well..... it was until....," Sans with a hesitant voice as he goes back to his seat. "i'll get to that later on."
All the girls gave him worried faces, something dreadful happened and talking him out of it won't help one bit, but they have to try.
"Sans, like I said before, we're here to help. Just tell us what's bothering you and we can handle it from there," Sunset with a caring tone in her voice.
"Yeah! We're here to help you Sansy, all the way!", Pinkie said cheerfully while Sans snickered a little.
"Darling, don't be afraid to tell us. Someone like you must be taken care of, especially your feelings," Rarity added.
"you don't understand. if i tell you, you would be in mortal danger than you have ever been in your life. i don't want you girls to be involved in this, especially when considering the risk," Sans replied with a worried face.
"What risk? Whatever it is, we-," Rainbow said as she was cut in by this statement.
"the risk of all of you dying," Sans replied with his eyes blackened and a deeper tone in his voice.
All of them, including Pinkie which was always the happy one, looked at Sans in horror. They never seen him like this, except for Sunset. Those empty black eyes of his made sure that he was very serious. The tone, the gesture, it was a nightmare. Rainbow was taken back by this, knowing that Sans didn't joke about them being dead.
"P-Pardon me, Sans, but to what you just said, we don't understand com-," Rarity tried to form the words but was interjected by that look Sans gave her.
Sans sighed and felt bad about himself. He saw that everyone had fearful eyes of him, not to mention, the custard skinned girl (Fluttershy) was quietly sobbing behind her light-pink hair. Twilight and Rarity tried to comfort the sensitive girl and she slowly began to calm down. Sans showed his two white pupils again to avoid scaring the hell out of the girls, especially the sensitive one.
"sorry about that. i didn't mean for that to happen. i just lost count how many of my friends died. i can't let that happen to anyone, especially to you girls. i-i c-can't," Sans said as he to started freak out and began to slowly hyperventilate with his hands on each side of his head, thinking of the outcome of the fight that is about start soon.
"i've seen too much. felt too much. too many screams to count. gone, one after the other. how could i've been so stupid to let them die like that. i wi-wish i c-could take it all back," Sans said as every breath that escaped from him, he began to breath heavily. Other than that, his left eye began to glow again. This time, it was just there illuminating, not trying to conjure anything, but it was just there showing its flashing light of blue and yellow.
Sunset ran to him, "Sans, tell us what's wrong," she said with a worried tone in her voice. Sans laid down his right arm on the ledge of the seat while the other is still on the side of his head, still freaking out with his eyes closed. Sunset saw his hand that was there, open and she figured that this was her chance to see what was really bothering him. She reached for his hand and before she could held it, a hand from behind was placed on her shoulder. It was Twilight, followed by the others.
"If you're going to do it, let us see it too," Twilight said with a determined expression.
"Yeah. We gotta help him. Something's really bothering him... and I got a weird feeling that we're not gonna like what we're gonna see," Rainbow added.
"And whatever it is, we can face it together." Applejack said with a reassured smile and the others smiled but a weak one was formed.
"Well, here goes nothing," Sunset took a deep breath as the others held hands together so they could see what Sunset sees. Sunset held his hand and Sans' left eye glowed brightly while Sunset and her friends glowed with white eyes, delving into the skeleton's memories.
