Chapter 6: Dark Past Unveiled (Part 2)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Cold. The air, environment.... the feeling was chilly. Sunset, Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie laid on the frosty, soft ground unconscious while breathing cold air. Sunset was the first to awaken and she inspected her surroundings. Trees lined up from right to left with small gaps enough for her to see through it. She woke up the other girls so they could find out where they ended up in Sans' memories. They stood up and they felt a cold feeling. It wasn't too cold like the South Pole, it was just right while they still breathed out frosty air. Pinkie was the first to speak up:

"Huhhh. Never knew Sans' memories were this bone-chilling," Pinkie giggled.

"This isn't the time for jokes, Pinkie," Rainbow said, her hands rubbing both her forearms.

"Rainbow's right. We have to find what's bothering Sans here, but it seems I don't find anything suspicious yet," Twilight replied, wiping the snowy particles from her eyeglasses.

"Well, this is a first. Never really knew that you can enter inside someone's memory. Come on. We gotta find-," Sunset said but was interrupted by a creaking sound to their right, which they saw a door and out came a child wearing a striped pink-purple and blue sweater, blue shorts and brown shoes.

"A human? Here? Well, slap mah' head and call me silly. Never thought someone could be here in Sans' memory," Applejack said in shock.

"Applejack, darling. You're gonna blow our cover. I suggest using a conversational voice as to not attract any unwanted attention," Rarity with her index finger out, correcting Applejack.

"Sorry, Rares."

The girls just observed the small child, hidden behind the tall trees, which seemed to tower high above. The child began to walk through the icy path with her face covered with brown hair and behind it, a smile formed but it wasn't just any smile. Sunset could notice something sinister about this child, to which she found quite disturbing. The girls slowly began to follow child, but a few feet away, they see a very familiar figure wearing a blue jacket, which was also hiding behind the trees hidden from sight. The girls gasped as they saw Sans observing the figure walking past him. They quietly approached Sans to ask him what was going on.

"Sans, we're here. Umm... hello?," Rainbow said as she waved her hand in front of Sans' face, but he seems to ignore it.

"Sunset, this is just a memory. We cannot interact anyone here. We can only see them and even if we make a sound, it doesn't matter as they won't hear or see us in someone's head," Sunset explained.

As they turned around, Sans was gone and they heard something split into pieces, which made Fluttershy fidget. To their surprise, it was just a stick which was strangely broken to pieces by something, considering the child was already a few feet past it

"What was that?", Fluttershy asked as she shivered.

"It was just a stick, darling. Nothing to be afraid of," Rarity replied, comforting the timid girl.

Sunset now sees Sans following the child, still hidden from their plain sight. Sunset and the others followed him but when they reach him, he seems to disappear.

"Where did he go now?", Rainbow asked.

They soon heard something or someone walk from the path the child was on. It was a silhouette which walked fast, towards the small child but then disappeared after a few seconds. The girls were in shock, which made them freeze in their place. Before they even knew it, they heard Sans' footsteps following the seemingly disturbing child. The girls followed Sans and yet again, Sans disappeared.

"Ughh... That little bonehead is always gone when we get to him," Rainbow said annoyingly.

"Hey, there he is," Applejack pointed at the familiar silhouette walking towards the child who was frozen in place.

Sans was approaching the child behind and then stopped, only for the child to turn around and he held out his hand. The child shook the skeleton's hand and yet again, a fart sound was heard and Pinkie seemed to giggle a bit. However, the child didn't smirk or giggled at all. Instead, it was still forming that disturbing, yet sinister smile, implying that it wasn't amused at the prank. That smile had something else behind it, something with malicious intent.

"that's your uhh... cue to laugh. or, uh, to emote at all....?", Sans asked with an eyebrow raised. After a few awkward seconds, he shrugged. "ok, that's fine. everyone's got their sense of humor. the name's sans. sans the skeleton...."

The girls stood there, motionless and speechless, as they saw the child didn't really care about conversing with Sans. It's like the child knows already what he's talking about, or the child already heard it before. The two just continued to talk to each other until a gigantic hole formed under the girls' feet. They shrieked as they fell into the depths of the dark hole. As they descended, they could hear screams of every monster being reduced to ashes. Bloody faces everywhere, symphonic screams, sinister laughs. It's like a never ending nightmare and they saw the child with black liquid dripping from its eyes and mouth. The child that brought ruin and destruction which seemed to please itself by playing with its toys. The girls couldn't bear everything they just witnessed. After that, they landed on a soft puddle of snow and got up after a few seconds.

"That.... that was dreadful!," Rarity exclaimed.

"You could say that again. Ah've never seen anything like that before," Applejack said with a troubled expression.

"We gotta find Sans. We have to-," Sunset was cut short as the girls saw a tall skeleton with arms wide open in front of them and it began to spoke.

"ARE YOU OFFERING A HUG OF ACCEPTANCE? I, PAPYRUS, WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS," said the seemingly tall skeleton. The girls were confused, but yet still terrified.

"This must be Sans' brother," Twilight observed.

"How did you know that?", Rainbow asked.

"He's a skeleton, just like him."

"Well, maybe. I just hope we don't go through that scary hole again," Rainbow said as she shivered from the thought. They all stood up and Sunset spoke:

"Who is he talk-," a figure, or the child swooped in and slit its knife into the friendly skeleton's chest and despite its chest being exposed, it still had a smile. Few moments later, the skeleton's head came off and landed on the soft snow while its body dispersed into dust.

"W-WELL, THAT'S NOT WHAT I EXPECTED...
BUT....
ST.....STILL! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
YOU CAN DO A LITTLE BETTER.... EVEN IF YOU DON'T THINK SO!
I..... I PROMISE...."

The head also joined the body in dust. The girls gasped in horror as they covered their mouths with their hands while the child in front of them stood there seeing the dust in the air.

"HEY, YOU! You can't just-," Rainbow shouted but a light flashed and the child disappeared. They were still in the same place as before.

"We have to stop that kid. That thing is remorseless to anything."

"Yeah, no kidding," Sunset made an obvious statement.

"Uhmmm.... girls?", Fluttershy asked in a shaky voice.

"What is it, sugarcube?", Applejack asked. Fluttershy pointed at someone behind them and they saw Sans looking down at the scarf which was left behind by that poor skeleton they just met. Sans knelt down and picked up the scarf and started to mourn with words barely audible.

"pap... i'm sorry....i'm....sorry.....i'm sorry.....why, why kid.....why....why...."

Tears ran down his eyes while feeling the scarf he held. That scarf was his brother's. The girls don't know how much it meant to him, how dear that thing was in Sans' heart. He never wanted to let go of the scarf, for it seems that it was the only lifeline. Sans kept grieving about it and the girls were just there standing, not knowing what to say. They stood there, with eyes shocked and all of them had tears dripping from their eyes. Their hearts broke as they saw the brother of Sans get murdered in front of them.

"I'm.....so......so.....sorry...... Sans," Fluttershy said as she fell to her knees and started weeping too.

After a few moments, Sans began to stood up still holding the scarf in his hands. His eyes grew black again, with his signature grin on his face.

"that kid....is gonna......have...one.... bad....TIME!!," Sans angrily said with his left eye flashing uncontrollably, showing how pissed off he was.

The girls took a step back to give the enraged skeleton some space and when they turned around, they saw themselves on a wooden bridge. In front of them, they saw the ruthless child and facing it, was another figure who has a body of a fish. It seems to wear an armor which had a heart shape on the center with white gloves, accompanied by boots with pointed toes. Its pupils were white and her sclera turns black. Its left eye emits a flashing light in the shape of a spear, hair spikes at the ends and its fins become more rigid and pointy.

"You're gonna have to try a little harder than that," the fish said with a DETERMINED tone in its voice. It's voice sounded like of a tomboyish girl's voice just like Rainbow Dash's.

The child raised her knife to attack but the fish figure snapped her fingers and spears came up from the ground with unexpectedly. Then a voice was heard behind the girls' backs.

"You can do it, Undyne. I know you can."

The girls turned around to see a small, monster kid which has a resemblance of a dinosaur. It had no arms and it wore a yellow shirt with brown stripes. It kept cheering for this-Undyne person which led to think that she is a good guy trying to fight for the good. The demon child's heart appeared and it broke into pieces, leading to the conclusion that the fight was over, but if only it were that easy.

"That Undyne sure knows how to kick some serious butt," Rainbow said impressed.

"I'm glad that's ov-," Twilight sighed but was interrupted by a figure passing through them. Right now, the girls were just ghosts in Sans' memory. No one will be able to see or hear them. To the girls surprise, it was, yet again, the child. They gasped in shock as it charges again at Undyne.

"H-How d-did it come b-back? We saw it die, didn't we? It isn't possible!", Sunset said in shocked and bafflement.

"This thing is not human. Sans will have some explaining to do," Twilight observed.

The girls were in awe and amazement and also in fear as the child seems to come back, unwilling to give up. Undyne kept fighting and fighting with all her might but with every comeback, the child seems to know every move she makes now. After blood and sweat was spent on the battlefield, Undyne has finally met her match. Not long, she began to shiver and began to melt.

"Damn it... Heheheh... If you...If you think I'm gonna give up hope, you're wrong.
'Cause I've... got my friends behind me.
Alphys told me that she would watch me fight you...
And if anything went wrong... she would... evacuate everyone.
By now she's called ASGORE and told him to absorb the 6 human SOULs.
And with that power...
This world will live on...!", exclaimed the Undyne who know dispersed into dust particles.

With contracted pupils and with hands on their mouth, they saw that the child seemed to be the victor of this fight. Then, the child turned around and the girls froze in their place.

"You're next, my little EXP," said the demon child as she lunged forward towards the innocent monster child in front of them and a scream was heard. The girls also shouted in fear, and turned around to run away from that thing. The only problem is when they turn around, they were surrounded by every monster, with their faces bleeding, throats slit and chests exposed. The girls were just wailing with tears forming in their eyes shouting out for help, but nobody came.

As the nightmares began to close in, a light shone on them and the nightmares disappeared. A few moments, it flashed at the girls, only to find themselves in a long, yet bright hall, with huge pillars. The hall had a yellow light, emitting from the windows which had an interesting pattern embedded on them. Beams of light shone through the extensive hall, peacefulness of matter, birds are singing. It was a beautiful day outside.

"Umm... where are we?", Fluttershy asked.

"I'm not quite sure darling, but that sight earlier.... that was horrendous!", Rarity exclaimed.

"Being in somebody's head with this kind of memory, it gives me the creeps. I may not be able to sleep tonight, or maybe, NEVER!", Rainbow argued, folding her arms.

"I kind of want to get out now," Pinkie said, her voice somewhat faltering.

"Yeah... All of us need to get the heck outta here," Applejack replied.

"Agreed," Rarity added.

"It seems that we are in a hall of some sort, with no one in it," Twilight said, looking around the corridor.

"Yeah, that's good. I don't want to see anymore of those faces with blood ever again. Sunset, just get us out of Sans' head," Rainbow suggested while the word 'blood' made Fluttershy shiver at the thought, as Rarity and Sunset comforted her.

"Alright. Here I g—," Sunset stopped as she and the other girls heard a very familiar voice from somewhere. They went to see him and there he was, talking to the child, whom in its wake left a trail of dust behind it.

"so, i've got a question for ya. do you even think the worst person can change...? that everybody can be a good person, if they just try?"

The child stepped forward, only making Sans chuckle.

"heh heh heh heh... all right. well here's a better question...," Sans' eyes were hollow and black, glaring at the child who took everything away from him. "do you wanna have a bad time? 'cause if you take another step forward... you are really not going to like what happens next."

The child seemingly ignored the warning and took a step forward.

"welp. sorry, old lady. this is why i never make promises."

The room grew dark and Sans and the child had a black and white color to them. The girls also noticed this to themselves and they were astonished.

"Wow. We're like in a '90s show," Pinkie said.

"Pinkie! Be quiet," Rainbow scolded the pink haired girl.

The girls heard Sans spoke with his eyes closed:

"it's a beautiful day outside.
birds are singing, flowers are blooming...
on days like these, kids like you...

Sans opened, only revealing his dark and empty eyes.

"Should be burning in hell."

As his left eye glowed furiously, Sans smashed the child to the tiled floor and bones came up, injuring the demon child greatly, as blood came out of its mouth and through its whole body. Then it was lifted up and with great force, Sans pushed the child to the back of the hall, with bones waiting at the back. Bones lined up on the wall as it pierced the child's chest with blood splat out on the floor. It fell to its knees and, coughing out massive amounts of blood. Huge animal-shaped like blasters were summoned in front of it, with blue energy balls in their mouths ready to release that massive energy onto the demon. It wasn't long until the child got a good glimpse of the massive skulls in front of them and waves of energy was released upon the target. The red heart split into two, and broke into pieces. The girls stood their place, shivering at the bloody scene.

After a few moments, images flashed showing the battle Sans and the demon child were having. Bones piercing, Gasterblasters firing, it was an endless battle of surviving, especially for Sans. With every cut dodged, he began to feel weary due to amount of magic he had used. With every return of the child, it seemed to be familiarized with the patterns and attacks of Sans. Afterwards, a scene was shown where Sans was talking to the child about remembering who were they before and laying down their weapon to make Sans' job a lot easier. Something made the child stop, pondering to what the skeleton said. Not long after, the child began to sob with the knife slowly slipping from its hand. Sans saw this and was relieved.

The child chose to SPARE.

"you're sparing me?
finally.
buddy. pal.
i know how hard it must be... to make that choice.
to go back on everything you've worked up to.
i want you to know... i won't let it go to waste...
c'mere, pal."

Sans walked up to the weeping child and touched their shoulder and in return, they embraced him in a hug, a hug asking for forgiveness. He also hugged the child back only to know that everything's forgiven. The girls smiled, with tears of joy in their eyes knowing that anyone can be forgiven, even though they seem to nearly lose their path.....

But something wasn't right.

The room grew dark once again, interrupting the girls' weeping moment.

"What's going on?", Twilight said, shivered at the sudden dark presence in the hall.

At this moment, the child is still sobbing on Sans' shoulder. A few tears later, a blue aura appeared below Sans and the child's feet. It began to surround them with wind circling around them. Not a few moments later, the child felt a sudden force penetrate their own chest, impaling it to stay in place. It was a.....bone, extending at a long length through the child's chest cavity with blood on the end. Traumatized, the girls froze in their place shivering, with eyes of horror at Sans' action. Their hands shaking, with a cold feeling up their spine as mixed emotions run through their head. Sympathy, fear, anxiety, anger, etc. but mostly empathy. The girls soon hear a few words from Sans with the child impaled and blood dripping from their mouth.

"get....dunked on.
if we're really friends...you won't come back."

Sans released himself from the hug and the child went down to the tiled floor with their red heart broken into two and a MERCY option above it. Sans looked down at the corpse and he felt guilt crawl up his spine as to his action to the repentance of the child was merely a deception only to save himself from continuing the fight. With distressed eyes, he believed that his action was justified. He truly lives up to his name being the 'joker' of the Underground. This time it was a literal joke of accepting MERCY from 'them'. After a few moments, the child return, but something's different about them now. It now wore a green and yellow sweater with brown shorts and shoes, its pupils were crimson red with an ominous smile formed into their face. A smile that was similar to Sans', only this time....it has something dark behind it. Something or someone took over Frisk's body and the smile alone said it all.

"What's with the kid?", Rainbow asked.

"Hmmm...they looked different. The clothes are not like earlier," Pinkie observed.

Memories started to flash as the girls gathered together and watch the battle repeat over and over again. Each flashing image shows the child dodging efficiently against Sans' attacks. The attacks being conjured by Sans were rendered useless each fight. Sans was beginning to tire out as he dodges every cut, sweat dripping from his head. There was one where he went all out with his 'special attack'. Patterns are now being formed in Sans' attacks and the space in the bright hall was seemed to be enlarged, making it look a hall without end. Bones coming out of the walls and floors closing in. Each frame of attack was a slight blink with Sans moving from one spot to another. The final attack was a bunch of gasterblasters surrounding the child with a deadly energy wave. The last image that flashed that the girls saw was....truly horrifying.

"so... g-guess that's i-it, huh?"

"just... d-don't say I didn't w-warned you."

"welp. i'm going to g-grillby's."

Sans said as the knife made a mark on his chest, blood dripping with his left hand on it. His mouth coughing out blood with his smile which seems to never disappear no matter what he feels. Either he feels sad or pain, his grin will never change. It was permanent. He fell to his knees as he lost the fight which seems to go on forever. As he didn't want to die in front of the demon child, he got up and decided to go to grillby's. He walked past the kid while breathing heavily and blood dripping to the floor. He felt uneasy and began to feel lightheaded as his vision began to blur. The girls were in front of him, horrified as Flutershy, Rarity, Twilight and Sunset covered their mouths as they watched the skeleton bled to death. They wanted to help, but everything they see is just a memory. Even if they were in the scenario, it wouldn't make a difference. He would still die inevitably from bleeding. After a few moments, Sans fell, yet again, at his knees and the last thing the girls heard made their veins run cold.

"papyrus, do you want anything?"

After these words, they saw him turn to dust. The hall was now empty, only the child remains as 'they' proceeded. As the sight of the demon vanished, the girls didn't say a word as the experience of Sans going through this nightmare was truly hard for him. In the end, everyone's fate is sealed. Nothing or no one can stop it now. A light flashed and they were surrounded by darkness with light illuminating from above as they float in the black void of darkness.

"Where are we?", Twilight asked as she looked around the empty space around the girls.

Their attention was suddenly drawn to the two figures before them. They seem to be having a conversation. The girls saw Sans again floating in the empty space and he was talking to....someone whose face seems to be melted and it wore a black long coat with a turtleneck. It spoke to Sans but its voice was static like radio.

"You have a job finish Sans. You're not done yet," The figure said as it touched Sans' head and a light flashed.

Next thing the girls know is that they came back to their senses. Their eyes lost the white light and they returned with their normal eyes. They released their hands from each other's grip and tried to process everything. Fluttershy shivered in her place and began to weep. The others comforted her as they too wept quietly. Sans also came back to his normal white pupils. He was dazed after that as the whole being someone in his mind thing and to be honest with him, he is not a fan of it. Being able to see what he's been through can cause someone to have the same nightmares as his. It was dreadful and unfortunate for someone, especially these girls, to see all of it. They crossed the line and Sans was very distressed to see what they saw. He should be the one to tell them; seeing those memories only made the situation worse. They saw everything and there's no denying that these girls are going to put in a situation where there is no return. Sans scratched the back of his head and groaned.

"ughhh.... what did you do?", Sans asked with an angered expression. Sunset and the others gave him a fearful expression and a worried one.

"wait. don't tell me you-?"

"We saw it all, Sans," Sunset said plainly.

Sans looked at the ground, unknowing what to say. He sighed heavily as the truth has been unveiled, secrets spilled. He was silent for a moment with fingers folded together and got up.

"excuse me for a minute," Sans said as he made his way to his room upstairs, leaving the girls in the living room. They looked at each other and just exchanged looks. The experience really traumatized them as they were quiet, words cannot express.

"I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry girls," Sunset said with gritted teeth and clenched fists.

"Darling, you don't have to be sorry. Well, to be honest, I think we all regret doing that. Those images were just....ghastly," Rarity shook her head.

"Yeah. We just need to give Sans some space for now. When he comes back, I have a few questions I would like to ask," Twilight said.

"We all do, sugarcube," Applejack added.

"For now, let's just give the guy some space," Rainbow as she folded her arms.
"Also I'm thinking...do you remember that we were in a.... ummm... black space with all of us floating?"

"Yeah?" Sunset replied with a raised eyebrow.

"What did that static voice dude mean about...Sans' job?"

"I don't know...but I think it has something to do with that kid we saw," Sunset held her chin with her right hand.

"Yeah. I guess so. Anyways, do we still have time to ask Sans when he gets down here?", Twilight asked.

"It's only 2:30PM. We got some time to kill," Rainbow said as she observed the clock. The girls shivered at the last word she said.

"Rainbow, darling. Please do avoid using that last word. I've seen enough of it," Rarity replied.

"Ohh... sorry."

"Let's just wait here. I hope Sans doesn't mind if I grab some burgers for us," Sunset said as she got up to get burgers from the fridge and heat them up in the microwave. While she was heating the burgers, she walked back to her seat in thought:

"I hope we can stop this thing."
