When most humans are faced with something that is unnatural they normally try to A destroy it or B study it. So, when a goddess sends one of her messengers to my house I’m happy to fall under B. As I sat looking at the pure white three tailed kitsune sitting on my table with a letter I decided to reflect at how this had happened.

It had been a mostly normal day, well as normal as a day can get in japan. I ran a small herbal shop situated in a small back alley called: the vixen’s brew: The only thing out of place that had happened today was the box of Inari sushi that I had bought for lunch had disappeared and the old fortune teller said that I would soon become like that of my spirit. Most simply would have ignored this as the crazed ramblings of an old women, but everything she had said before always ended up happening granted she predicted a lot of stuff, but this was even more cryptic than normal

After work, I headed to the shrine to pay my respects and went home my house was on one of the backstreets that led into the city. The surrounding area was a dense forest filled with cherry blossom trees which is why I like it so much. While the house itself wasn’t very big and it was in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors it was still home.

I had opened the door and stepped inside when I noticed that my door was unlocked and that something was breathing behind me. As I slowly turned around hundreds of scenarios had run through my head, upon seeing what was behind me my mind ground to a halt.

And thus, here we are staring at each other. Most humans would have freaked out and screamed, or would have bowed and reverently started praying, but as I said before I am not most humans. I walked past the kitsune on the table and to the pot of tea that was on the kitchen counter, reaching up I grabbed my favorite coffee cup an orange mug with white lettering that simply said wait. Pouring me a cup of tea I turned and walked back up to the kitsune and took the letter from him.

Setting down my mug I sat down in one of the chairs at the table and opened the letter. Hello little human I’ve watched and waited and have grown bored of the lands here so I have chosen you to entertain me. I am going to turn you into a kitsune and send you to another world where you are going to cause havoc by simply being yourself. But don’t worry too much little human I shall give you the proper knowledge of how to use your body among other things, have fun …… Inari, PS tell Faust I said hi.

I didn’t have any time to really register the letter due to the burning pain enveloping my body I could feel as my body changed on a fundamental level, bones breaking and mending flesh and muscle twisting and changing, my brain felt like it was on fire from the sudden influx of knowledge. As the darkness closed in around my vison the last thing I felt was the kitsune nudge something into my hand.

When I came to the first thing I saw was white, then I felt it the cold wind carried by a snowy breeze. Looking around I realized that I was on a snowy plain with a few sparse trees scattered about. The area around me was steaming and on the ground next to me was an ornate spear and an oddly shaped set of armor. Next to them was a book, on its cover was a kitsune. Upon seeing the book, the memories of what happened came back to me.

Eye widening, I turned to look at myself, five tails, bright orange fur, paws and claws yep I was a kitsune. Looking down even further I confirmed that I was still male. I was about 6 feet tall and around 10 feet long from tail tip to muzzle. Even though I had a completely new body I seemed to know how to already use it.

My gaze went to the spear, the shaft itself was made from a dark looking metal with runes carved all over it about 5 feet long. At around four feet up the shaft a metal fox with multiple tales wrapping around the shaft itself a foot-long blade in the shape of a broad leaf coming from its mouth. Set in the center of the blade was a gem that seemed to glow with a myriad of colors.

Tearing my gaze from the spear I then looked at the armor. It looked like it was made to fit my new form. The helmet was elongated to fit my skull a muzzle guard ran down in front of it there were what even looked like hinged ear guards, the main body of the armor was fashioned like scale mail with plates over the vital sections. Under the armor were what looked like leg guards, at the back end of the armor were 5 long strips of segmented metal plates that I assumed were for my tails

Wait, how did I know that? Then it dawned on me I had been given the needed knowledge of how to use it and the spear by Inari and now that I think about it that’s probably why I’ve been so calm at having a new body, not that I was complaining I absolutely loved foxes. Speaking of said body I decided to give the tails a test run by using one to pick up the book.

Looking at the title of the book I knew wat it was immediately, a spell book in a sense but instead of spells it seemed to teach you how to make your own. Something I deemed far more useful than any spell book. Standing up I picked up my armour and put it on then picked up the spear with a tail.

Looking around didn’t bare much more than what I had already observed, snow, snow and even more snow. I was about to give up when I spotted a slight glimmer in the distance, something else then snow catching the sunlight through the storm, deciding it was better than nothing I started in that direction.
