Chapters Spike and Rainbow's Friendship Mission
The sun was starting to rise as Rainbow Dash awoke from her slumber. It had not been an easy night for her, there was so many thoughts racing through her mind that she didn't get much sleep. Before long she had completely devoured her plate of hot cakes and by the time she was done she looked up and noticed Spike was staring at her. Rainbow smiled and then laid back and stared at the blue sky.
"Hey Spike?" She asked, "Why did you not wake me up when you woke up this morning?"

"Let's try and see if that's where the friendship problem is", the purple dragon pointed.
Rainbow agreed and then took another look at the sky.
"We better hurry then, by the look of those clouds we are in for quite a nasty storm" she finished.
"Can't you just kick those clouds away?" Spike asked.

"Are you crazy? Do you see how thick those clouds are? Even if I had a bunch of other pegasi from cloudsale show up, those clouds are far too impossible to move." The blue pegasus ranted.
Spike took a step back. He understood what Rainbow meant.
"Calm down Rainbow. Let's just go find this friendship problem before the storm gets here" Spike finished. Rainbow took a deep breath, and then nodded her head in agreement.
"Sorry Spike, i didn't mean to snap at you like that", Rainbow apologized.
"You were right, I didn't get a good night's sleep last night".
Spike looked at Rainbow Dash with forgiving eyes. He then chuckled.
"Good thing I'm such a forgiving dragon" he said with a smirk.
Rainbow giggled and then the two headed off for the village.
An hour later....
"Well that was a waste of time" Rainbow Dash snorted while removing twigs from her mane.
Spike couldn't agree more as he pulled a thorn out from the bottom of his foot while marking off the village on a map that Twilight had given him.
There were eight villages in total!
The village that they went to didn't have very many ponies living there, and the ones that were living there, were not the nicest ponies they have met.

Spike checked off the other three villages from the map and let out a sad sigh.
"It's hopeless, we're never going to figure out this friendship problem" the young dragon said sadly, "So much for my first friendship mission, it's just going to be a failure".

But Spike groaned when he noticed that his picture of Rarity had reduced to nothing but a ball of mush. Rainbow noticed Spike looking glum while looking at his ruined picture.

"It's okay, I've got another one at home", he replied.
The only food that wasn't ruined was the big bag of marshmallows, a can of oats and some small rubies. Rainbow didn't feel like eating canned oats, so she stuck with the marshmallows.
Spike ate a couple of the rubies and then proceeded to help Rainbow eat the marshmallows. They sat around the fire and began to roast them, but they barely said anything to each other.

Rainbow Dash meanwhile was still thinking about what had happened the night before and deep down, it was still a lot to take in. She had to quickly come up with a way to distract herself, and break the awkward silence.

The sounds of thunder could still be heard but now seemed to be getting further away.

"You're just saying that because you don't want to pay for the mess you two made!" He smirked, and then he began to laugh. Spike and Rainbow were embarrassed and then both began to blush. Granger then smiled and then put his hooves around the two of them.
"It's alright, You're not the only ones to damage this place. At least you didn't try to steal any of the furniture."
Spike was surprised by Granger's response, and then he remembered noticing that the cabin was very empty and that the furniture that was there was very old. He then began to chuckle along with the friendly silver stallion and then Rainbow joined in as well.
"My apologies, but I never got your names." Granger said kindly. Rainbow and Spike were having a cup of coffee and had to gulp down quickly when he asked them their names.

"I knew I recognized you two. I saw the statue of Spike during my visit to the crystal empire last year, and I recognized you for saving Equestria from the changelings back in Canterlot and I also saw the wonderbolts in Las Pegasus two months ago", He said while looking at Rainbow Dash.

There are no ponies currently staying there because of the storm and that it is now the end of the summer season. I'm sorry, but you won't find any friendship problems there!" He finished. Rainbow Dash and Spike were dumbfounded when they heard this. The mission that they had to complete sounded like it turned out to be a complete bust.
"Are you absolutely sure about this?" Asked Spike trying to control himself. The silver stallion looked into him right in his emerald green eyes and nodded.
"I'm truly sorry but I am sure of it. I had just come down from that area and passed through the four villages myself. All the villages are completely empty, just like my cabin has been until you two found it." Spike gulped. This was his first friendship mission, and now that it was a bust it would now show Twilight that he was a failure at trying to repair friendships in other parts of Equestria. Rainbow's ears flattened as she saw the sad look on Spike's face, she reached over with her wing and pulled him closer to her. But then Spike became surprised by Granger's response for how empty his cabin had been. After hearing this, Spike cleared his throat and asked the stallion the question.
"I have to ask you" Spike said to Granger, "Why has your cabin been so empty? Why aren't other ponies coming here?" Granger looked at Spike and then quickly looked down at his hooves. Rainbow wasn't sure, but she thought she could see tears forming in his eyes.
"To be honest Spike my friend, you two are the first couple that have stayed in this cabin in moons." The silver stallion said sadly. "I haven't had been able to find ponies to fill this place after what happened in the other villages."
Spike and Dash looked at Granger with a confused look.
"What happened in the other villages?" Rainbow asked. The stallion was hesitant to say anything at first, but after some pressing from the two, He finally gave in and told them everything.
"About three years ago, I started the same kind of business in each one of the other villages each with one my friends, but I kept messing everything up and it led to us not talking to each other for about a year."
"Why? What happened?" Spike asked. Granger looked at his hooves and again and shook his head.
"I was the brains behind everything, and I wanted all the cabins that we had to operate how I wanted them to, but it seemed my friends were more better at hospitality than I was. And because of that I became jealous and very angry and I let it get the best of me. I tried everything I could to try and make it look like my friends ways were not the right way and that my way was the right way. But no matter how hard I tried, I only made myself look foolish and it made my friends second guess their friendship with me."
"Well what was your way?" Rainbow asked. Granger gulped and took a deep breath.
"I wanted to charge ponies and couples a substantial amount of bits to stay at our cabins. But my friends insisted that we only charge a small amount, only more if they caused damage, made a ruckus or didn't clean after themselves. But if we lent out the cabins for a cheap and reasonable price, this would bring in more ponies and that would make our cabins full and show that we have great hospitality."
"So what exactly went wrong?" The two asked. They were curious and eager to find out why things between Granger and his friends didn't work out.
"It's because I got greedy!" The stallion admitted while slamming his hoof on the table. "I thought by charging more it would solve any problem that we would be faced with, but my greedy attitude got the best of me and my friends told me that they didn't want to be involved with a somepony like me anymore and they cut ties with me. It's been a whole year now since we all last saw each other. I really miss my friends and I really want to tell them how sorry I am for being such a rotten friend and greedy stallion. But I am too scared to tell them, and I am worried how they might respond. No ponies want to stay at my cabin because of what an idiot I was, and the only ones who stayed here completely trashed the place and stole all of the good furniture. I gave myself this reputation and I now must suffer because of it!" Granger sobbed.
Spike and Rainbow were surprised by Granger's words. They felt bad for their new friend and wished there was something that they could do to help him out. Then a lightbulb went off in Spike's mind and he quickly looked at Rainbow Dash with a large toothy grin.
"Can you excuse us for a few minutes?" Spike asked. Granger looked up and nodded. Spike then grabbed Rainbow by the hoof and brought her into the other room.
"What's going on squirt? Why did you bring me in here?"
"I think I know what our friendship problem is!" Spike exclaimed excitingly. Rainbow Dash was confused.
"What? You mean Granger? You think that he is the friendship problem that we are supposed to solve?"
"Yes, I am sure of it!" The young drake said boldly.
"What makes you so sure that this is what we are supposed to do?" The cyan mare asked him.
"I'm not exactly sure, but I think by helping Granger patch things up with his old friends again I'm pretty sure that is what we are supposed to do for this mission!"
"Then what if it's not then?" Dash asked. Spike looked at his feet for a few seconds and then looked his marefriend in the eyes.
"Then we go home and tell Twilight we failed" The young dragon said while gulping worriedly. Rainbow Dash knew that this mission meant everything to Spike and she knew that they couldn't return home failures. She was far too proud to let something as simple as a friendship problem bring them down.
"Okay Spike, I'm with you! I'm with you every step of the way." She said confidently. "Let's show this friendship problem who's boss!" Spike grinned and then they did a hoof bump.
The two then returned to find Granger sitting in the same place as before, tears were running down his face and his bright silver mane now completely looked dull and messy.
"Granger, I think I know what our friendship mission is!" Spike said happily. Granger looked up at Spike with a surprised look and quickly wiped his tears from his face. And then he listened as Spike and Rainbow discussed their plan.

Author's Note
Sorry for the delay for this chapter. I have been suffering from a case of writers block, and after getting my affairs in order, I am now know how I will complete the story.
For Granger, I wanted to add in a OC to the story to make it somewhat interesting. If you are going to ask, does Granger live in this cabin in the woods? Does he have a home? I'm am not going to answer that question, and leave that to you to figure out.
And yes, I added a hoof bump in this chapter lol.

Spike and Rainbow's Friendship Mission
Chapter Seven "The Problem"
A determined Spike and Rainbow Dash were soon making their way through the air, following the path that would lead them to the other villages. Today was the day that Spike would prove to Twilight that he was more than capable of completing a friendship mission outside of Ponyville, and he knew that wouldn't fail because he had made a new friend in Granger and now had a special somepony that he could call his own in Rainbow Dash. The sun was now out completely and warming up the valley, now hinting that summer was indeed almost over.
"You're confident that this mission will work?" Rainbow called to Spike. Spike rubbed her behind the ears and smiled.
"Absolutely, a hundred percent!" He replied. "This probably ain't going to be easy, but with my good will and your determination there ain't a friendship problem that we can't solve!" Rainbow grinned brightly hearing Spike's bold words. As long as he was confident then she was too. She then flapped her wings even faster and then bolted through the air, with Spike holding on as tightly as he could.
Earlier:
"You really think that by helping me repair my friendship with my friends, is the friendship problem you two are looking for?" The silver stallion asked with a puzzled look on his face.
"I'm positive that this is what we are supposed to do." Spike replied, "It just seems to me that this is the right thing to do!"
"And by repairing your friendship with them, think of much better you will feel and how much your attitude will improve!" Rainbow Dash said confidently. "And who knows, maybe this will help you out with your business as well...."
Granger was put off by what Rainbow had said and quickly interrupted her.
"No! Absolutely not!"
Spike and Rainbow Dash were surprised by what Granger had just said.
"What do you mean no?" Spike asked.
"I don't know if I can do repair things with my friends, I just don't think I can!" He replied. The stallion then laid his head on table and began to sob again.
"Whats wrong Granger?" Asked Spike, " Why do you think that things cannot be repaired between you and your friends? You just mentioned to us how you miss your friends!" Granger then looked up at the young dragon and cyan mare and then sniffled loudly.
"I do miss my friends, but I don't want to patch things up with my friends if it means trying to save my business. I don't want my old greedy self to come back. I would rather lose my business then go back to my old greedy ways!" He declared. Spike and Rainbow could see where Granger was coming from, but they knew that they had to help their new friend and get him and his friends back to speaking terms.
"Let us try, and see what happens." The two said, "But trust us, everything will be alright. Just leave everything to us!" Granger let a small smile sneak onto his face, and then got up from the table.
"Well I hope you two are right" He stated, "But when things start to go sour because of my old greedy ways, don't say that didn't warn you." He then walked slowly to the back door of the cabin and then went outside. It was then that Spike and Rainbow gulped and hoped that what they were doing was the right thing, and that it wouldn't make things worse.
Present:
Meanwhile as Rainbow with Spike on her back were flying through the valley, they soon approached a fork in the road that appeared on the map that they had.
"Think it's best if we split up and try the cabins on the path that we take." Spike said to Dash. She nodded her head and then flew off following the trail that went to the left, and Spike began to walk along the trail that went to the right. But before he really went anywhere Rainbow Dash flew back and landed by him.
"You wouldn't happen to know what Granger's friends names are, and what they look like do you?" Rainbow asked. Spike then groaned and then smacked the palm of his claw against his forehead.
"Oh for bucks sake!" Spike sighed.
Soooooooooooooo, Rainbow and Spike had to quickly fly back to Granger's and ask him what his friends names are, and whereabouts they live. To make things even more difficult Granger told them that they were living separately in three of the four villages that they had already visited, because the other four villages were shut down for the year. Spike and Rainbow groaned and then headed back to the villages they went to previously. So far this mission was starting to become more and more of a hassle.
"Okay, let's try this again!" Rainbow chuckled while Spike sat on her back with his arms crossed.
"Better be worth the effort" Spike muttered to himself.
Later that day:
It had become quiet now that Spike and Rainbow Dash had left Granger's cabin. He didn't want to admit it, but he began to feel even more alone now that the cabin which was all that he had had been so quiet for so long. Deep down he hoped that his new friends could help him and his old friends become close again, but he was still trying to figure out what he was going to say to his old friends when he saw them. Would they take him back as a friend? Would they say mean things to him? Would they even say anything to him at all? There were so many things playing throughout his mind that he began to tear up again. All these days he had spent to himself for the past year had been tough on the stallion, but he knew that Spike and Rainbow Dash were going to do everything that they could to help him, and he knew deep down in his heart that he was a good pony and that he wanted to do good by the other ponies that he cared about.
Then after what felt like it had been another year, but in fact had only been a few hours the door to his cabin opened up. Granger peered at the front door, and noticed a familiar looking dragon walking through the door.
"Hey there Spike" Granger said excitingly. "You're back! How did things go with you and Rainbow Dash on finding my friends?" Spike looked at the silver stallion and gave him a small smile.
"Come and see for yourself." Spike instructed.
Granger then walked to the front door and peered outside. When he looked he saw three familiar ponies, a earth pony with a dark brown coat and lighter brown mane, and two unicorns. One with a maroon coat and yellow mane and the other one with a dark green coat and black mane. He recognized the earth pony as Freerun, the maroon unicorn as Beaver Tail and the dark green unicorn as Maple Leaf. Granger's jaw dropped and he stood perfectly still. As much as he wanted to run up to his friends his hooves felt as they were frozen to the ground, and he couldn't speak as his mouth just seemed to not want to function.
"Granger?" Maple Leaf asked with a surprised look on his face.
"Is that you?" Freerun questioned. Granger still couldn't come up with the words to say anything. He just looked at the ground and then nodded. He didn't know what they would say next, and then to his surprise he felt the ground shake and then the hooves of his three friends wrap themselves around him.
"We were so worried about you!" Beaver Tail sobbed. She couldn't contain her tears from running down her face, neither could the others. Granger was completely frozen in shock. The ponies who he thought had hurt with his greedy personality had all along been worried about him, and had seemed to have really missed him as much as he did them. Granger then began to tear up and then he wrapped his hooves around his three old friends.
"I'm so happy to see you three!" Granger cried. His friends smiled brightly and chuckled as they continued their hug. Afterwards Granger then wiped his eyes and then looked at his friends.
"Did Spike and Rainbow Dash tell you I was living here?" His friends looked at him and shook their heads.
"Actually they told us about a cabin in the woods that needed some "TLC" and that we should check it out" Freerun replied. "They never told us that you were here!"
"We didn't know where you disappeared to" Beaver Tail said, "We went to find you but when we went to your house you weren't there!" Granger was surprised that his friends were saying these kind words, the pain that he thought he did to them had only had been done to himself.
"Why did you run away?" Maple Leaf asked him. Granger looked away and gulped.
"Because I thought you three didn't want to be friends with me anymore after what a jerk I was. You guys didn't want to be involved with me no more so I decided to leave." Granger explained. His three friends were stunned to hear what he had to say, and then they looked at him and smiled.
"We never did say that we were cutting ties with you." Freerun said kindly. "You did act a little selfish and we were upset with how you tried to take everything over for yourself, but we knew that you made a mistake and we were going to talk with you the day after but you had vanished!"
"We did look for you and we were hoping that you would return" Beaver Tail chimed in, "We knew that you didn't mean to act that way, we actually felt bad for getting upset when we should've tried to sort things out from the start. You didn't mean to act that way right?"
Granger looked at his three friends right in their eyes, and he immediately shook his head.
"No. I was just a stupid stallion who thought that bits was more important than friendship, but when I left our village and went off on my own I realized that bits are not the answer to any ponies problems. I wanted to come back and talk with you three but I was just too nervous and upset with myself to face you all again because of my actions. I made a mistake and I know I can't turn back time and fix things but I have learned from my mistakes. Can you all forgive me?"
Before he could say another word, his three friends then once again wrapped their hooves around him and pulled him in for a big hug. No words were said as none needed to be said as Granger knew that he was friends once again with the ponies that he cared for the most.
Spike and Rainbow Dash had been watching the whole time, and had a hard time holding back tears of their own. To them it reminded of their friendship with Twilight and the others. It wasn't a sappy feeling, but it was a heartwarming feeling. They soon walked over to the group of reconnected friends, who were very happy to see them. Especially Granger.
"Thanks you two for helping me get reunited with my friends. I can't thank you enough for all that you have done!"
Rainbow Dash and Spike beamed proudly, and then gave each other a hoof bump. They felt great about themselves, thinking that their friendship mission that they were to complete was finished. Rainbow then looked at her flank to look at her cutie mark, and Spike looked up at his scales, hoping to see them pulsate with a green color. But as they kept looking something happened, something that shocked the both of them.
Nothing!!!
Neither Rainbow's cutie mark or Spike scales glowed. Rainbow had to smack herself across the face to make sure that she wasn't dreaming. Spike's could feel his heart sink to the bottom of his chest, and then he felt like crying. All the hard work that him and Rainbow had done was not their friendship mission after all. They then put on their strong faces and joined in with the group.
The Next Day:
Spike walked the slowest he probably ever walked in his life as he and Rainbow Dash made their way back to Ponyville. It had been a long night for the two as they spent another night at Granger's cabin, talking and spending time with him and his old friends. They were all very nice ponies, and they all thanked them for their help as well. Throughout the night, Spike was restless and it took him awhile to fall asleep. Rainbow too had some difficulty sleeping, and was very groggy when the morning sun lit up the cabin.
Earlier that morning:
"Are you sure you two can't stay for another day?" The kind silver stallion as his two new friends.
"Sorry Granger, but we have to get back to Ponyville." Spike replied, "but we will come see you again very soon."
"Yeah, and this time we'll bring our friends so they can meet your friends" Rainbow Dash said kindly. No matter how happy they were that they helped Granger repair his friendships with Freerun, Maple Leaf and Beaver Tail, they were still down from their mission failing. As they began to turn to leave the cabin, Granger spoke up in low voice that only Spike and Rainbow could hear.
"This wasn't your friendship mission. Was it?" He asked, his curiosity plaguing in his mind. The young drake and cyan pegasus quickly winced, the words sounding like a dagger into their backsides. They then turned to face Granger, but they couldn't bring themselves to bring the words out, instead they only shook their heads with disappointment. Granger's ears went back, and he looked sadly at the ground.
"I had a feeling it wasn't, I could tell by the looks on both your faces yesterday. I'm sorry you two, I wish there was something I could do."
Spike and Rainbow felt terrible inside. But before they could manage to give a reply, Granger then looked back up with a smile.
"But I am very grateful for you two in helping me, even though it wasn't your mission. I'm still very happy to have met the two of you!" Spike and Rainbow Dash's spirits then brightened. To hear these kind words from such a friendly stallion like Granger was enough to make them feel better and forget about the mission all together. They then smiled brightly and shook hooves with their new friend.
"It was very nice to meet you too Granger" The both of them said happily. They soon got their things, and waved goodbye to the kind stallion and leaving behind the cabin that they had a wonderful time in. There was without a doubt, that the two of them would be back!
Meanwhile:
"Spike, are you doing okay?" Rainbow asked. She had noticed that the young dragon that seemed to be growing more and more by the day, had been rather quiet for the last few hours.
"Oh sorry, Yeah I'm fine Dash." Spike replied, "just been thinking about some things that's all."
"Are you thinking about the friendship mission?"
"Yeah that's one thing I was thinking about. I just can't come to grips that we couldn't find the problem, even when we helped Granger repair his friendship with his three friends. It doesn't make any sense!"
Rainbow couldn't agree more. As much as she loved solving friendship problems, she just had that feeling that they lost to a problem that they could of easily solved, and Dash really really hated losing. Especially to something like a friendship mission.
"It's a head scratcher alright" The loyal pegasus chimed in, "I definitely think that the cutie map has to be on the fritz this time, or either that egghead Twilight planned this out as a joke!" Rainbow then looked at Spike who now had a look of even more disappointment and then held his down and let out a sad sigh.
"There you go again Dash, making the poor guy feel sorry for himself! So much for being a loyal friend!" She thought to herself.
The rooftops of Ponyville could now be seen in the distance, even though they had been gone for four days, the town that they both called home seemed different yet also bigger. Rainbow then looked over at Spike again, who now looked like he was going to break down and cry. Rainbow now felt even more upset for her friend, she wanted to say something cocky but didn't think it was right for her to say something like that, then she took a deep breath and began to break the awkward silence.
"For all its worth Spike, even though you didn't complete your mission, you faced it head on and didn't give up. You braved a mighty storm just to find us supplies, and you even helped a kind pony get things right with his three friends and got them talking to each other again, even though it wasn't the mission we were sent to do. No matter what any pony says you're not a failure, you in fact my little purple scaled friend are one of the biggest winners in all of Equestria!" She declared. Spike took in her words on what she was saying, and then turned his head to look at her.
"How do you mean Dash?" Rainbow let out a small laugh, and then wrapped her wings around Spike to bring him closer to her. She gave him a small kiss on the side of his head and then proceeded to give him a noogie.
"Because you got the most loyal pony in Ponyville and the awesomest flier in Equestria as your marefriend buddy!" She finished with a smirk on her face. Spike laughed as Rainbow continued to rub the top of his head with her hoof. He knew that she was right on everything that she had said. The pony that he thought was the coolest, radical and by far the most fun pony to be around was now his special somepony. He knew that she deeply cared about him and he knew for sure that he cared about her a lot too. He then took another long gaze into her eyes and grabbed her around her head and brought her face close to his.
"And I feel the same way Dash. I too am glad that I got to go on this mission with you". Spike replied and then he planted his lips against hers, which she was quick to oblige. Then they closed their eyes as they made out with their most passionate kiss.
Then the two began to feel different and then they heard a familiar noise. Rainbow turned her head to look at her cutie mark while Spike looked at his scales. To their utter shock and disbelief, they were pulsating with their colors which then told the two of them that their mission was somehow complete.
"What...Whats happening?" A confused Rainbow Dash asked. Spike didn't respond right away as he was just as confused as she was. As much as this was exciting that her cutie mark and his scales were glowing, it didn't seem right for them to just start glowing right out of the blue, especially since they couldn't figure out what the mission was or what it could of been. Then to Spike, it hit him like a ton a bricks. The truth was right there, in front of him all along. He then smiled from ear to ear, a smile that would put Pinkie's to shame and then he hugged Rainbow Dash as tightly as he could. Rainbow couldn't figure out at first why he just started smiling and then gave her a big hug. And then it came to her. She then realized what the mission was and had been from the start. She then smiled brightly and then returned the hug Spike was giving her, only to squeeze back even tighter. She didn't want Spike to one up her at giving the best hug after all.
For Rainbow Dash and Spike, their mission was over and happily was a success!

I just wanted to go with my gut, and try to make this chapter as funny as possible. I thought, why not make it so they have to retrace their steps and have to go back the way they came? Why not have it so they were so quick to complete their mission, they completely forgot to ask Granger what his friends looked like or what their names were? I mean c'mon man, you guys can't be that stupid right? And they call themselves professionals lol.
I had thought about making it so the mission that they had was to reunite Granger with his friends and that was that! But I then thought what if it wasn't? That has to be the biggest troll anyone or anything could do to someone/somepony. I had debated over it for sometime and had to come up with a decision.
So anyway, for all its worth, I think this is so far going pretty well for my first story.
Spike and Rainbow's Friendship Mission
The sight of Twilight's castle was a welcome sight to Spike. It had felt to him like he had been away for about a year, when in fact it had only been a few days. The two new lovebirds then began to walk up the castle stairs, and then began to approach the front door.
"Should we tell Twilight and our friends that we are now a couple?" Spike asked Rainbow Dash with a worried look. Rainbow looked over to her friend and smirked.
"I don't see why not. I know that I love you and that you love me. And if any pony even Twilight says anything against it, well then they will all just have to accept it whether they like it or not. I don't care what they say, I know in my heart that it feels right!" Rainbow replied boldly. Spike then smiled, inhaled and then he faced forward with a look of determination on his face.
"Well if your not worried, then neither am I! But let's tell Twilight first"
Rainbow chuckled and agreed. And then together the two of them opened the door and entered into the castle, ready to reveal to Twilight about their mission, and what had changed when they were out together.
In the throne room, Twilight was busy getting some of her important paperwork done. Without Spike to help her she had to work twice as hard as she had ever worked before, which she didn't mind of course but having a trusty assistant like Spike made things go so much more smoothly. She was just about to finish writing on her piece of paper when the doors flew open loudly.
"We're home!" Spike called loudly. The echo from his voice rang though Twilight's head like a bell and she fell over from complete surprise. The alicorn princess thought she could see stars from her quick journey down to the floor, but was quick to realize that it was a purple dragon that had seemed to have grown a little bit in size and a blue pegasus who was trying hard not to laugh at her friends mishap.
"Hey Twilight, how was your trip?" Rainbow asked before bursting out laughing. Spike joined in and laughed with her. He then held out his claw for Twilight to grab onto with her hoof and bring her up off the ground. She then quickly gave her head a shake and then gave her friend an cock eyed stare.
"My trip? I should be asking you about your twos trip!" The Princess of Friendship growled. "How did it go? Did you two complete the mission? What was it? I'm curious! TELL ME EVERYTHING! Is Spike okay? He's not hurt is he? Did you tw-" Twilight was cut off by Rainbow Dash putting her hoof to her friends mouth.
"Geez Twi you're talking a mile a minute, relax and calm down before you pass out!" Rainbow hinted with a smug grin.
"Yes we completed the mission" Spike declared to his long time friend. "Are you impressed? Didn't think i could do it did ya?"
Twilight looked at Spike and had to blink twice. She couldn't believe that Spike a grown a bit since she last saw him, at first she was speechless but then she quickly had Spike in a bear hug and was twirling him around in circles.
"Spike! You grew! I can't believe it!" She cried loudly. "Am I impressed? Yes Spike, I am so proud of you. You're not a baby dragon anymore." Spike was having just a tad little tough time breathing from Twilight's strong hug, but even through all that he had to crack a smile.
"So what was the mission? When did you two complete it?"Twilight asked curiously. Spike and Rainbow looked at each other confused and then looked back at her.
"How do you not know that if we completed the mission or not? Twilight haven't you been paying attention?" Spike asked with a shrug. Twilight looked around and grinned sheepishly.
"Well not really. I have been so busy doing all this paperwork that I didn't know when to stop and didn't think I should stop cause you know me, when I start something I always make sure that its finished and done right!" She replied proudly. Rainbow chuckled and then rolled her eyes.
"Only to well Twilight. Only to well!"
Spike and Rainbow Dash then told Twilight all about their mission as she sat in her chair in the throne room. They told her about going to the different villages, about flying through the storm which Twilight was not to happy to hear about since they both could've been hurt. Then they continued with Spike telling her about him finding the cave, and then braving the storm to go to the cabin in the woods to find food. Twilight was wide eyed and shaking and also ranting to Spike again for being so reckless. But Spike then revealed that Dash was always there to help him out and that she saved him from the falling tree. He said that he had learned from this experience and that he promised to be more careful in the future.

I had always thought you two would find yourselves a special somepony, but hearing that you two are together makes me the happiest pony in all of Equestria". Twilight declared happily.

And the two of them had received a couple of letters from Granger. He told them that things were going well between him and his friends so far, and that they were all working together to get his old cabin fixed up and look respectable. He mentioned that he should have the cabin up and ready for ponies to stay there by next spring, but whenever the two of them make their way back into northern Equestria, that they can stay there as long as they want. And finally in his last letter he said that he would bring his friends to Ponyville so he could introduce them to Twilight and the others when they had spare time. That made Spike and Rainbow Dash very happy to hear, and Twilight and the others were looking forward to that day as well.
Spike continued to walk with Rainbow Dash's hoof gently grasped in his claw and was completely in his comfort zone. Hanging out with Dash and spending some quiet time together was something that the young drake definitely enjoyed. He still lived in Twilight's castle and helped her as much as he could, but other than that he spent most of his time with Rainbow Dash at her house. Spike had now grown small wings and could fly somewhat pretty well, just not for far distances. Good thing he had an awesome teacher in Rainbow. She told him that with enough practice he could maybe join the Wonderbolts someday. Spike thought that would be awesome, but deep down he knew that the chances of commander Spitfire letting him join was pretty slim.
"Yeah right Dash, the day the wonderbolts let me join is the day that pigs fly!" He said with a chuckle. But then he felt his marefriends hoof yank itself from his grasp and come to a stop. Spike looked back to the cyan pegasus who appeared to be somewhat annoyed.

Spike could feel his heart sink even further than it was supposed to, and looked down at the ground. Had he done something for his new special somepony to be completely bored? Was this relationship not mean't to be? Spike then grinned from ear to ear and let out a happy chuckle as the two then flew off towards the sunset, the next chapter of their relationship awaiting them.

At first Spike was a little nervous, but seeing how fast the pegasus was going and how much land they were covering, Spike new that he would be safe riding on her back.
Soon the sun was starting to disappear, meaning that Princess Celestia's day was over and that soon Princess Luna would be raising the moon. Rainbow then started to flap her wings very gradually and started to make her descent.
She had chosen a quiet and flat spot in a meadow next to a small stream, the perfect place to camp for the night. Spike had a lot of fun riding on Rainbow's back, and was kinda sad that the day was now over. "What's wrong Dash?" asked Spike.

Rainbow then quickly turned her head and then glared at the young dragon.
"Yes I do, and don't go telling any other pony that!" She snarled.
Spike nodded and then Pinkie promised not to tell any other pony.
"Oh well, it don't matter, I'll just find a small cloud and sleep on that instead" Rainbow said.
Spike was surprised that she said that.
"Nonsense Rainbow, you can sleep in my tent that i brought" Spike suggested, showing her the tent that he bought some time ago.
The tent was definitely big enough for the two of them, and Spike had even managed to bring an extra pillow with him. Rainbow eyed the tent, she smiled and then chuckled.
"Sorry Spike, but i only share tents when I'm with Scootaloo."
Spike rolled his eyes and then started to make a fire.
"Suit yourself but if it gets cold outside and the fire dies out, I'm not getting up to re-light it" Spike declared. Rainbow Dash laughed.
"I've slept outside many times and have never gotten cold, I am totally used to this".
She was flying about 2 feet off the ground when she was saying this. Spike raised his eyebrow.
"Even during the end of Summer? It gets cold out here this time of year".
Rainbow laughed again, this time nervously.
"Yup totally!"
Later that night....
As the day turned into night, the two friends were sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows. They were having a good time, talking about their adventures and all of the stuff that had happened over the last couple years.
Rainbow then needed to use the little fillies room and then flew off to take care of her business. While Rainbow was gone, Spike then decided to look at his picture of Rarity that he brought. Looking at the picture of his favorite pony made him slightly sad. He was excited to be on a mission with Rainbow Dash, but deep down wanted to go on the mission with Rarity instead. He was lost in thought and so preoccupied with his picture of Rarity he didn't even hear the blue pegasus return.
"Hey what do you have there?" asked Rainbow.
Spike jumped and quickly put the picture back in his bag.
"Holy Sweet Celestia Rainbow, don't scare me like that!" Spike shouted.
The pegasus couldn't help but laugh, it was just too funny.
"Sorry Spike I couldn't help it, you were just lost in dream land I just had to make sure that you were still here".
Spike calmed down, and then began to blush. Rainbow smiled, and then gave him a hug.
"Don't worry buddy. I know what you were looking at, it's totally fine that you have a crush on Rarity. I think it's cute the way you look at her every time you go see her".
Spike was surprised at what Rainbow said, he didn't know what to say at first.
"How could you possibly think that?"
Rainbow chuckled.
"This ain't the first time I've seen somepony with a crush on some other pony, let's say that i have been around the barn a few times".
This made Spike a bit more comfortable, this was Rainbow Dash after all.
"Yeah you're right, I do have a crush on her" Spike confessed while looking at his feet.
Rainbow smiled and replied. "Told ya"!
Before long, the blue pegasus and purple dragon were yawning hinting that it was now time for bed.
"Goodnight Spike" Rainbow said, as she headed for the cloud that she found earlier.
"Night Dash" Spike replied as he headed into the tent.
Spike settled into his bed that he had made for himself, he knew Rainbow would probably get cold outside so he made a bed for her anyway just in case. As Spike looked up at the ceiling of the tent he thought to himself.
"I'm very lucky to go on this Mission with Rainbow. I really like hanging out with her. She's great company and I'm lucky to have her as a friend".
Meanwhile Rainbow was making her way up to her cloud. She made herself a small makeshift bed and then lay flat looking up at the stars. She also began to think to herself as well.
"I'm very happy to go on another mission. It's been far too long but I'm very happy to go on it with Spike. He's a good friend and I'm lucky to go on this mission with him".
It had been only four hours but Rainbow Dash was shivering badly. The cold was getting to her and she knew that if she didn't get somewhere warmer she'd get sick.

I know there is probably alot of words that may have been repeated, but this fic is something that i have put together while being awake for more than 24 hours. When i was introduced to the show back in May, I seriously developed a huge liking for Rainbow Dash and i really like the RD and Spike ship as it's something you don't see very much of. I hope you like this first chapter, and i promise to get to more juicy details in the next few chapters......
