Chapter 16, Lil Ol' Fun

A fine day it was, if it wasn't for the current situation that I had thrusted ourselves into. It only got worse when Pinkie abruptly left Spike and I, both of us staring at the open window with out mouths agaped. It proved to worsen even more so as we heard rushed footsteps and hushed voices from the other side of the door. Spike and I looked at each other in fear and jumped to the nearest hiding spot we could find, mine was, fortunately, the stacked closet.

"The scent smells familiar, paps," said an all too familiar voice. My eyes widened in realization.

So the household had been on an errand when we first arrived here, I thought with a pang of dread, if we'd just arrived earlier maybe we'd have more time.

"I can smell it too, kiddo. Is it someone you know?"It's obvious the masculine voice belonged to her father, as said by given nickname.

There were sniffing, which I found really, really, weird, then I heard the doorknob twist. I gulped.

"Duh, I did say familiar..."-there was a slight pause as the sniffing continued, then a loud inhale,-"and I think I know just who it belongs to." The smirk was practically evident in Sunset's tone of voice, and I grew even more nervous as my heart started pounding in my head, beads of sweat started to slip out of my pores as light footsteps were heard throughout the room, and I bet you Spike was feeling the same as I did.

"So, who is it, then?" The voice was much clearer than before, confirming my suspicion that they have entered the room.

"Not sure yet, paps, I think there are two of them in here," another pause, "there were three, rather. The other one must've left. They all smell familiar... Except for that boyish musky smelling one."

I never knew they were a family of great greyhound sense of smell! What are they, wolves?! My heartbeat increased as said footsteps got closer.

"Hmm... I think I have already met two of these scents before," said Sunset's father, "both at the party, and one in your room a little later after I passed by."

"Hohoho, I know who it is, alright," came a snarky tone of voice, "and she's right behind that closet." There was light evil laughter, and that alone sent me over the edge.

"The candy, lavander or the wet dog-smelling one?"

I felt bad for that last part.

"Oh, don't be so stereotypical, paps, it just smells like cat after a rainy day," I heard laughter from Sunset's dad, and I myself stifled my giggle with my hand, despite everything that's happening, "the lavander one I always smell at school, in fact, she is my number one on the enemy list,"-good to know, I groaned internally, bewildered a little as she had just tracked the smell of my shampoo from meters away. It's either my shampoo scent reaches a longer range than I had originally thought, or she's just incredibly skilled at her, their, sense of smell,-" the sweet one is all about sugar, spice, and everything nice, and I bet said number one enemy had been listening to us the whole time."

Without warning, the closet door opened fully, and blinding light greeted me as I desperately tried to bury myself in the cancatervated clothes.

"Isn't that right, Twilight Sparkle?"

I froze, eyes wide, staring ahead without a real destination, and when there was a scoff accompanied by a deep growl, it was then I registered the fact that I had been caught, by Sunset and her dad no less.

"Oh! Uhm... R-right?" Yes, I almost could feel my internal face-palm in that moment.

"Right," said an agitated man standing behind her, peeking over her shoulder with arms crossed, showing off impossibly lean and colossal build, "and what, may I ask, have led you to our humble abode?"

I gulped visibly, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Sunset's eyebrow raise up, but I focused on her father, knowing he imposed much more of a threat than she does.

Was it just my imagination or did her eyebrow just rise up after that train of thought?

"Uhmm... W-well, you see, sir, uh..." I could've sworn, that right then and there, I had forgotten to speak English.

"Tell me this instead, did you come alone?"

My mind went blank. It was a huge challenge. I didn't know what I would say! If I told them I didn't and brought along a few friends with me, they'd probably jail them as well! On the other hand, if I didn't, they clearly knew already by that calculative gleam in their eyes, and from what I, we, heard earlier they could smell 'other' scents than mine, whatever that would mean in this case, if there was another meaning than my initial thought.

Instinctively, I glanced to where Spike hid, which was at the side of the bed, nearly under it, sweat pouring down his face as he looked frighteningly back at me.

With every slight difference, the scenery changes, but sometimes, even when things seem different, they all end the same.

Author's Note

Okay, so your decision again, tell me if you wanna bust Pinks and Spike, or keep the info to ourselves and not let the Shimmer know. The riddle at the end is a dead giveaway of how the next chappy might be, but I need you all to decide which is which. And please make it quick, hopefully I'll get answers before the weekends so I can start right away.

Remember, the dignity of Spike and Pinkie rests in your hands... And gadgets. So pretty please with a cherry on tope vote!
