Your Human and You: Adventures of the Griffon Girl
Finally Fleeing To Freedom
Previous ChapterNext ChapterMy heart sagged as I watched the others sleep. I had become afraid to sleep while we were on the boat, moments like what happened the night before were littering my mind. Where he, Rue's father, would buck and kick the door, hammering his drunken skull into the door to get in. I could still hear his banging. I had given myself insomnia just to stay up and protect the two poor sleeping souls. Fylakas had tried to tell me that I didn't have to, but I refused. I had to protect them, and they needed to feel safe. I had started teaching Fylakas beak language. He slowly began to understand more and more what me and Rue were saying. She was less than pleased for a moment. The beautiful little filly was kind though, and she became more and more lenient with the intelligent behavior of Fylakas. I was excited to learn more about his story, and how he began his adventure here. Was it like me? Was he with someone? How do other humans speak? Would anyone believe me if I told them??
I decided to tell Wench just not to tell anyone yet. There was a moment of relief from my own thoughts when the tall mare with lanky legs, who was jet black trotted in with a bright smile to hug Medallion, and get a proper look at Wench. Wench looked a little scared at first, but I went over and hugged her, and she cooled off quickly. She was shaking like a school filly meeting her teacher after school. Her shaking was stopped by my own simple action.
"Uncle Medallion~! So good to see you!" Her voice was that of excitement, and Medallion was pleased to hug his niece.
"Hello to you too, Violet Star." His smile was smug, and his horn lit up and she levitated a few inches off the floor. She squealed and her limbs desperately tried to touch the floor. She giggled after a moment, and she realized she was OK. I looked at Wench, and she was smiling very gently. I heard her snorting giggle, which was the same as Slasher. I shook with a small repressed chirp as I tried to hide my own reaction. Fylakas looked at me shocked before he looked hurt. I blinked and poked the marking on my throat.
"What? Did I say something?" His nod signified I indeed, had said something hurtful.
"What'd I say? I can't understand what I say to myself when I'm listening to-" Wench nuzzled me gently and cooed as I tried to continue. "-mmh! Them talk because their a different language."
He looked as if he had forgotten that little bit of information.
"You said something about slashing a throat?" My eyes went wide.
"You mean Slasher?"
He nodded and I gasped.
I had somehow mentioned her even when I wasn't in the right language? Wonderful. Now I have to keep from chirping subconsciously as well. Fylakas ran up and looked at me as we conversed. He was excited, but not to much.
"What are they saying? What are they talking about?" My mind went blank as I faintly remembered the others were conversing.
"Um... Let me listen back in. I'll be unresponsive, but I'll do my best to click whatever they say..." He was becoming more and more curious about these beings. I poked my throat and listened in to them. His speech became meaningless chirping and the useless whinnies became full blown speech.
This hit me like a freight train what I could do. I could be an ambassador... A bridge. Hell I might even be a missing link between the ponies and the humans in this world. However, it was practically impossible to get them to believe my intelligence. I coughed slightly and began to translate.
"So uncle Medallion, where did you find such a... Delectable female like herself?" I couldn't tell if she was talking about Wench or me. Either way I nearly broke down laughing as I buried my head into Wench's feathers. I clicked to Fylakas about the sentence and he bit his lips and covered his mouth.
"Well you see, I was summoned by the local Lord, Feathercrest Wingston the III, to look through the catacombs of his oldest castle. It's quite fascinating, but I'll get into that later." He shook his mane with a prideful smile. "But on the way I got lost in the rain after defeating this weird hybrid mix of a Timber Wolf and an Aconite- closely related, but still different. I twisted my back leg, and I was limping through the woods when I found her inn. This was before Slasher had B... Mikros." He smiled back at me and I gave him the smallest nod I could muster. "Anyways, I stumbled up right? In the dark, the doors closed, the fires out and Wench in just sitting there in the dark reading how to skin a human-" I gave a much less supportive look and then a look of stress. He saw this and smiled reassuringly, and I didn't react. "And then I buck open the door. She jumps out of her feathers- I mean there's just feathers flying everywhere." She gave a snorting giggle and I clicked the story to Fylakas, and he nearly broke down, covering his mouth to hide his smile. Wench fluffed her crest and she squawked slightly. "Then she throws her claws around my barrel right? And I'm laying there, panting in exhaustion and she's towering over me. I felt her ease her weight and let me go, and then she says one thing. "Lay down and I'll get the medical supplies." And I resisted at first, because you know me, but then it proved useless to resist so she just tended to the back leg and brewed a potion to heal my leg." He was beaming brightly. "So then at that moment I knew there was something special. Special about her, and her alone that night, made me spark so much that I left the next day, but came back a few nights later... And then I came back every week. I just never stopped." He looked at her with a smirk.
"We couldn't have made you stop even if we wanted too. You were like a stray puppy~." He flushed slightly and his tail flicked, and they just stared in silence for a moment. They gave each other... The Look.
"U-um... Violet dear... Cold you please take the humans and Rue here out to get some food from the deck?" Violet got the picture and said no more as she attached my leash to my collar and Fylakas's leash to his. She picked Rue up on her back and connected me and Fylakas's ends of our leashes to hooks on her saddle bags. We followed out and into the hall way. I quickly found my hands encased in a restrictable fabric like they had been when we first arrived.
The joy of being a human.
