Hours of Fear

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I closed my eyes and opened them again, seeing my new surroundings. Hoping it was a dream. Was I here? Was I really back in that awful place? That awful place with the two unicorns from before? I felt my chest throb and surge with pure fear. I was terrified to death of these monsters. They looked at me like I was a perfect T-bone steak. I began to freak out, squirming a bit in the seat. I was scared. So, so scared. They were just a nightmare right? My silky pajamas were gone, and they were replaced with a stiff, dirty, and lice infested shirt. I could feel them biting and crawling over my skin. They looked darker than I could have ever assumes. They were towering above me, taller than before when I looked into the darkness. They plunged a needle into my arm. My mouth was sewed closed. I tried to scream, but it hurt to much. It hurt to try. I screamed into my sewed closed mouth. These ponies made me scream. The scream was, again, silenced by the wire they had used to sew my mouth closed with. I had to find a way to get free. I had to find an opening. An escape. But the more I thought that, the more I felt the striped tighten. The more I felt the needle plunge into my arm. The more I felt the wire in my lips keep my mouth burn my face. This was no mere horror. This was... This was a torment. Straight from hell. From Tartarus. These weren't ponies. They weren't unicorns. They were demons.

I awoke crying and bellowing for someone to help me. I sounded like the children in the human pens at night when they screamed and cried for their mothers because of their nightmares. Except I had no mother to comfort me. I was alone. I was alone in a world filled with humans who didn't understand anything. With humans who weren't humans like me. Except... Except for Fylakas. Claw had woken up after my blood curdling scream and covered her ears, whimpering as she had to listen to my screeches. I jumped up and ran into the bathroom that was jointed to the bedroom. There was a constant throbbing in my head, showing me the nightmare. I leaned over the toilet and screamed until my voice cracked. I screamed until there was no air left in my lungs.

There was banging on the door, making me cry. There was cooing from the other side, from Slasher, from Rue, from Claw, and finally even from Wench. Not Talon. But Medallion was there. I continued to scream, screeching into the toilet until a tiny speckle of black spittle flew out of my mouth. I darted my eyes around the room and saw a shadowy figure in the corner. I heard clicking, and then loud chirping with the sound of knocking knuckles on the door. I saw the figure look toward the door, and its aura changed to fear. I rushed to the door and yanked it open, pulling the random human in by their hand and slammed the door closed with fear, staring at the black figure and the way it moved and silently screamed with fear. I touched the cut on my throat and looked at the human I had yanked in.

"Fylakas... Help me-" I got an urge to scream, turning myself towards the toilet and screaming until I felt my vocal cords change. The scream became deeper. The scream became not my own. It became one of demonic origin, and the intense deep grate of the voice destroyed my vocal cords. I could barely scream even harder. There was nothing I could do. I screamed harder. Louder. Black spittle began flying out of my mouth. I couldn't find any way other than my own mind to distract myself from the burn in my throat. I was throwing up something. Something evil. Eventually, the spittle turned into a monstrous and solid spew of black ink like vomit with little tints of red. Fylakas watched, in awe and horror as I had tears in my eyes. This must have been that.... Monster. The one with the fire ring in my head. The one who wanted to make my rational side die. To become one of the humans in this world. I had fought it off. Was it trying to get ahold of my sanity? Was it finally bored and trying to escape my body? I felt a burning sensation from my scar and I rubbed it. Fylakas was crying in confusion as he tried to soothe me.

"What's happening?! Are you OK?! Talk to me, I-I don't understand!" I heard him whimper as he tried to take my shoulders. He cried into his hands, resolving to cry. The stream of black ooze had gone. It was now just bloody saliva dripping out of my mouth. I cried and looked around, trying to find the shadow figure. There was nothing. I looked in the mirror and saw my skin had gotten a bit paler from the interaction, and my scar was gone. I became frantic. It burned to try and speak, but I could understand Fylakas. I panicked, looking at him like I was afraid. Which I was afraid. I just couldn't voice it. He hesitantly hugged me, looking at me in the eyes. He was scared. I was scared too, looking at the black ooze in the toilet. I felt hungry and I clicked that to him. He looked at me like I was crazy, but I didn't really mind. I felt insane. I felt crazy. I clung to him like I was a child. I had my arms wrapped around his neck and my head on his shoulder. I had my eyes closed when he opened the door to leave the bathroom. Tense silence had fallen upon the room outside the door. He clicked to them, that I was OK, but he clicked for Medallion to go in and use his magic to contain the contents of the toilet bowl.

I so badly wanted to hug Fylakas and have him carry me to the bed and hold my and tell me I was OK. The last few hours were pure hell for me. The nightmare? Was that a final hoo-rah for the beast? Was it just my mind? or... Or was it a premonition of what is to come after I died. I felt tears slink down my cheeks and I clenched Fylakas's skin. He flinched and winced, muttering little 'Ah's!' and 'Oh's!' and 'SSS ow!'. My grip loosened when Wench came by, asking if he could move me to her back so she could take me to get some warm milk and something to eat to make me sleep. I could understand Rue, what she was saying a few hoof beats away. I froze. I felt my body being moved to the soft warmth of Wench's back, and I shook a bit. What? Did this mean I could talk to both species now?

She trotted out, making me bounce slightly on her back as she trotted. I clenched her feathers and laid my head on it's side so that I could close my eyes and rest for a moment. I found that we were in the kitchen far quicker than I had expected. I felt my head nudged by something. I opened my eyes and took a hot glass and a few graham crackers with honey on them. I ate the graham crackers, finding they had mint too, and drank the water. It was hard to think for a second. I felt my brain start to slow down with a tired chemical called Melatonin. I downed the hot glass of milk in a few gulps and shifted until I was comfortable. There was another time jump and I was in a bed with Wench curled around me, reading a book about parenting a half pony half griffon hatchling. I looked down to see a blanket tucked around me along with a comfortable set of fuzzy pajamas. I would really have to talk to Wench and the others about changing my clothes while I'm sleeping.

I noticed a bundle tucked under my arm. It was little and fluffy. I lifted the blanket a bit and saw Vinney. He was curled up, cuddling up to my body. I lifted the blanket a bit more and looked surprised. Wench glanced down at me and Vinney, smiling a bit. I looked up at her with a raised eyebrow and stretched a bit. She offered me a book, one that she had obviously picked out a while ago. She thought I was a child, which to be frank, I guess I am in a form. I picked up the book and read it quickly. Daring Doo? It was a fun read, action packed. But... Done in an hour. I hadn't read or gone to school since... Oh good stars knows how long. I didn't really want to go to school either, but a book like this was good to stay sharp on. I had to get used to reading again. Look at me, after throwing up probably a few gallons of black goo, I was lecturing myself about staying sharp on my reading skills, instead of worrying about why I flipped over to Hug Wench and slowly fall asleep with Vinny curled up next to my chest. He had an adorable tiny snore when he slept. It told me I was going to be at peace. That everything was fine.

Hopefully it stays like that. Like this. Forever.

But it won't, I'm sure.
