~Chapter 4~
Later that night as Blitz flew through the sky waiting for the day to end, he thought about what he did wrong with his relationship. Sure there were sometimes where he couldn't be there with her, but he showed so much love to that mare. That mare he still loved. Blitz shook the thought of her outta his head. "What the hell am I thinking." he said as he stopped in mid flight. "Its not my fault for her leaving me. She is just a joke to me now. Why the hell do I still care for her?" He grabbed his ears and pulled on them as he let out a groan of anger. He sighed and he overlooked the city of Las Pegasus. He heard the sound of laughter, yelling, conversations, screams, and the sound of gambling. After all, it was a city where you could come and test out your luck. But Blitz felt something that he never felt in a long time.
He felt alone again.
He now hated the fact that he was very antisocial, but he couldn't fight it. He just didn't like conversing with the other ponies. But Sunflower was different. Being with her made him get the feeling that he never had in a long time. It was the feeling of love. The word now made the white colt gag with each second the word was pronounced. He needed some time to think for himself. He wondered. 'Where could I go tonight where I can just sit around and get a drink?' He could go back to his aunt's house, or in other words his house considering her passing and he took the title to it, but the thought of his aunt's soul still in that house gave Blitz a spine chill every time.
The only other place he could go is the bar downtown. It was pretty much the only choice he had. Plus, thanks to his sister, he can get a hold of a free drink. The bartender and Pom-Pom had connections in the past, but Blitz could never remember how long they were going out. Knowing that, the pegasus glided to the 'Rusty Carriage' to go and get himself a nice cold alcoholic drink.
As he arrived, he seen sober ponies come in, and drunk off their ass ponies come out. Wasn't surprising to Blitz that he bar was always packed. He knew that when some dumb stallion or mare loses every bit they gambled they would come here with the little extra money they had and spend it on some whiskey or martini. That's not what Blitz was here for. He didn't wanna mention why he was here. Blitz entered the bar.
The old smell of alcohol and smoke from the ponies mouths reeked the room up. The place was crowded with ponies. Seemed odd, the bars interior was never renovated. Cobwebs filled the corners of the bar, and chipping paint was accompanied to the several cracks in the wall due to the fights that always broke out. The place had two old slot machines that sat in the corner, one out of order, two pool tables that were in average condition, and one TV that no pony ever seemed to watch considering the only thing on it was those dumb soap operas you watch when you hit 60 years old. He didn't know why more and more ponies come to this piece of shit bar. Yet again, he came in too. Blitz flew up to the marble counter top and took a seat. The counter top was the only good thing the bar had. The bartender approached.
"Hey Blitz. Haven't seen you or your sister in a while." said the yellow colt. Blitz gave one short laugh. "Yeah. Get use to seeing me in here a whole lot more. My life seems like it is going downhill pretty fast now." The colt laughed. "Hasn't it already been going downhill for ya?" The white Pegasus gave the bartender a 'shut the hell up' look. The drink maker recognized. "Sorry. But what do you need. First drink is always free for you." Blitz didn't care what he wanted. All he wanted was something to drink. He answered. "Just give me a glass of whiskey please." Blitz said as he looked at the clock. The bartender shook his head and proceeded to get the drink Blitz ordered.
The thought of Sunflower came to his mind yet again. He remembered the time they went on a fly through Las Pegasus's sky. He remembered how the two said they would love each other until the end. But she had other plans with that unicorn Magicka. Blitz slammed his hoof on the counter top. "That damn slut. She left me, for that dick of a unicorn." he said to himself with an angry tone. Then some pegasus next to Blitz spoke up.
"Some folks are trying to drink here, Scheißkopf" said the pegasus in what seemed that he had been drunk for a while. The pegasus chugged a whole mug of boilermaker from it looked like to Blitz. Blitz responded.
"Listen pal, I've had a rough day." he said as he was looking for the bartender. The drunk colt slammed the mug on the counter top and let out a belch.
"So have I man. Every day of my life's been rough." he said in a better sentence for Blitz to understand. He looked at the drunk and was getting annoyed by him. "Really." Blitz said sarcastically. Blitz didn't care what he had to say. The pegasus put a hoof over Blitz and spoke.
"Look at my cutie mark, dude. Then look at me. Notice anything wrong?" the colt said with an added hiccup at the end of his sentence. Blitz figured that the quicker he got this ordeal over with he could get back to his own drinking and this drunk of Las Pegasus could get off his back. He looked at his flank. On it was a train. Blitz didn't understand. "What about it?" said he said as he looked at the colts brown eyes. "Its a train," said the colt sitting next to him, "I'm a pegasus. Does that make since to you?" He seen the pegasus had iron wings. So Blitz came up with two and two and came up with something. "I guess something happened to you." Blitz said concerned at first. "Something that I really don't care about." he said now in an annoyed attitude. "Well, its not like anypony else cares either." the Pegasus answered in a bored voice. He signaled the bartender to get him another drink.
Blitz was getting a little concerned with the pegasus. He looked back at the colts cutie mark. "By looking at your cutie mark, you must of dealt with trains." He said staring at his cutie mark. The colt handed the bartender his mug for a refill. "Eeyep. And you wouldn't believe how blasphemous that is for a pegasus." The colt laid his head down on the counter top. Blitz came back to the Pegasus's iron wings. Blitz never seen a pony with iron wing before. It urged Blitz to ask what happened. So he asked.
"What the hell happened to your wings?" The colt looked at his wings, moved them a little, then looked at Blitz. "Broke 'em. Broke 'em real bad." The colt urged himself to find out more about this drunk. "How?" The colt turned toward Blitz "Suicide attempt." he said with a smile. He looked back at his wings. "Not bad for just an attempt, eh?" Blitz looked at the drunk pegasus. "What is your name you sad sack?" he asked as Blitz finally received his drink from the bartender. He looked at the colt with confusion. "My full name or what everypony calls me?" he asked with a little belch. Blitz didn't understand, it was such a simple question. But he had to play nice. After all, he did try to commit suicide. "I don't care." he said as he took a drink of his nice cold whiskey. The colt stood and answered.
"Alexander Matthias William Baldwin, at your service. But you can call me Ironsides, or Iron for short."
Blitz was amazed with Iron's full name. Everypony did indeed have a full name but Ironsides took his name on a whole new scale. "Whats yours?" Iron said as he got his drink again. Blitz never really gave anypony his real name but he still had to play nice.
"You can call me Matt. But everypony calls me Blitz."
The iron pegasus took a drink and yet again slammed his drink on the counter top. "Ein deutscher Name. Ich mag das." Iron said as he laughed. Blitz didn't know what the colt was talking about considering he was speaking a whole new language. "Seems you speak Germane a little." Blitz said trying to figure what the drunk iron horse said. Iornsides put a forehoof over Blitz yet again. "Naturlich. Vor vielen Jahren habe ich es gelernt. You speak a second language, too?" he said smiling. Blitz never took a class to learn a new language. For the only language he wanted to learn was English. "No." Blitz responded as he held his drink. "No I don't." He took a drink of his whiskey. Iornsides faced Blitz.
"Well look, Blitz. I'm sorry things didn't work out between you and the slut." he said with a tone of a friend trying to help out a friend in need. The hearing of some other pony calling Blitz's ex a slut got on his nerves. He banged his hoof on the counter top and looked at Iron. "She's not a slut. She's just..." Blitz lost words to describe her betrayal. Iron spoke.
"Just what? Disloyal?"
Blitz hated to admit it, but it was true. She did have feelings for Magicka more than Blitz. Blitz didn't know what to say. Then he found words. "I don't know. She was just so good. I don't see why she left for that bastard Magicka." Iron took another drink and looked back at Blitz. "Eh, maybe he'll turn out to be a real jackass, and she'll realize her mistake." As much as Blitz would want her back, he couldn't accept her apology. "No. Its too late for her. She broke my heart." he said lifting his glass for another drink. "Your not one for second chances, are you?" Iron said while messing with his drink. "No. Its either you stick with me, or you don't. I want somepony to love me for who I am and not leave me in the dust." Blitz said as took another drink. Iron looked at Blitz with a serious look on his face. To Blitz, it seemed he was sober for a while.
"Just because somepony leaves you for somepony else, doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance. Everypony makes mistakes, Blitz." The words that Iornsides said really didn't hit Blitz as much as other words did. Blitz looked at Ironsides and put a hoof over his shoulder. "To Sunflower, she doesn't deserve a second chance. We always didn't get along much anyway. Plus she even said I wasn't going to be the Blitz she knew and loved." the white pegasus said in a mocking tone. Ironsides tuned around and starred straight out at the bar. The pony sighed. Blitz could pick out what the iron horse said under his breath. "Figures. Nopony listens to me anymore." Iron turned back around and called out to the bartender. "Hey! Got any absinthe around here?!" The bartender shook his head, "Good one!" he yelled.
Blitz finished his drink. He really didn't wanna order another considering that he didn't want to get real drunk. For he had to fly back home and he wasn't going to drink and fly. Blitz looked at the time. 10:30 PM. The Pegasus figured that he should be heading home now so his coach didn't yell at him for being late to practice yet again. "Hey, I gotta go now Iornsides. It was a real pleasure to meet you." he said as he stretched and took off above the crowd of ponies that were crowding the place.
As Blitz finally got out of the bar, he took a deep breath and was about to fly home. But then he was stalled by a pony he just met five minutes ago. Iornsides walked out of the bar, and started to walk down the sidewalk. But he was interrupted by a sudden urge to vomit. As Blitz watched his new drunk friend, he was lucky enough to see him hurl onto the sidewalk in front of the busy bar. A giant gush of beige colored liquid shot out of the pegasus's mouth. Blitz recoiled at the sight of his alcohol poisoning. Iornsides then began to teeder on his hooves. Before Blitz could help his friend, the brown pegasus keeled over, and then slammed his head against a nearby lamp post with a resounding clang. Blitz really didn't know how to react considering he never in his life was in this type of situation.
"Well," Blitz said awkwardly, "Hope you have a good night you drunk son of a bitch." Their was no sounds except the conversations in the bar and the sound of Iornsides gurgling on his own toxic puke. "Ok. Well uh...I'll take that as a goodnight to me too and hope to see you again." He saluted to Iron and he took off into the night sky. For the first time somepony actually came up to Blitz and was concerned of what he felt. He never knew that somepony would ever care for his well being. "I hope I can see him again." Blitz said to himself. "But then yet again he was drunk, so he will probably forget about me the next morning."
Blitz approached his house. "But I could be wrong. I've always proven wrong time after time again." Blitz landed on the lawn where not too long ago, his relationship was smashed into a million pieces. He kicked over the sculpture Sunflower gave him as he walked into his house. He locked the door behind him and proceeded to go to his bedroom. With each step the argument came back to him.
The yelling and screaming of her voice increased as he got closer to his room. No matter how much Blitz shook his head just to get some of the noise out, it just made it worse. As he had one more step to go, that's when the one thing that hurt him the most spoke to him. 'You'll never be the Blitz I use to know! You'll always be a loser! For the rest of your life!' He stopped. The sounds went away and all he heard were the crickets outside. Blitz walked slowly to his bed and climbed on it. "Man," said the heartbroken Pegasus,
"Whiskey really isn't my type of drink." Blitz said as he laid down. He thought to himself.
'Ok. today I got my ass kicked in football. My marefriend dumped me for the one unicorn I despise most in all of Equestria. And I met a drunk Germane colt who tried to commit suicide and failed at it.' He pulled the covers over him. 'The only good thing that happened to me today, was getting a new friend.' Blitz rested his head on his pillow. He smiled. "Today was a good day." He whispered to himself. He didn't know why it was a good day. But he had the one thing he hated more than anything now out of his life, and he made a new friend today at the bar. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
