~Chapter 6~
Its been one week since our friend hasn't been playing the sport he loved the most. Blitz wasn't doing so hot. He was failing to keep his bills paid up, he hasn't been able to even get a glimpse of the field he use to play on, and he wasn't getting paid, for the only job he did have was playing the sport. The stress kept on building up. If more and more of this kept up our white friend would have to move out of the city he grew up in. But he could turn all that around. For today was the day Blitz got to go to the weather center for his job interview as a weather pony.
We see Blitz back in his home as he was getting his tie on and cleaned himself up so he looked spick and span for his upcoming interview. Blitz looked in the mirror. He looked clean as a whistle, and looked as if he was attending a ball. He cracked his neck, stretched his wings, and gave the mirror a smile.
"I'm Blitz, and I'm here for the interview." he said to his reflection. Blitz frowned. He cleared his throat. "I'm Blitz, and I'm here for the interview." he said in a little deeper tone. He shook his head. "I'm Blitz, and I'm here for the interview." Blitz smiled as he got the voice down. He proceeded to the the front door. Before he opened it he looked at a picture of his dad that was hanging on the wall that replaced the picture of Blitz and Sunflower. He put his hoof on it. "Wish me luck pop." he said as he glared at the picture. He gave it a kiss and then proceeded to the weather center located in downtown Las Pegasus.
Blitz's favorite part about living in Las Pegasus was all the casinos and buildings that helped kept the city up and running. Blitz traveled through out the city as its bright lights lit the city up, making it one of the brightest cities in all of Equestria. Blitz decided since he had a half of an hour until the meeting, he decided to do something he hasn't done in a long time. Practice on his flying. Blitz flew up to the highest point on the edge where all the buildings started to make up downtown Las Pegasus. When he reached a maximum height he made one deep breath and gave a quick "Ha."
Blitz dove straight for the ground as he picked up speed rapidly. Ground was soon getting bigger with each second he got closer to the ground. Blitz pulled up as he was now horizontal from the ground. He flew all around the street, avoiding all the carriages and dodging all of the ponies that populated the city. Blitz was going so fast where if he passed a pony, it would literally almost knock them off balance from trotting. Blitz laughed again as he looked around the streets of the gambling city. He went through gaps in the signs that symbolized the casinos, and went so close to the ground to where he could feel the dirt being kicked up from under him. The white pegasus even decided to do some barrel rolls. He wanted to do more than two of them, but if hid did anymore it would make him dizzy and would possibly put his life in danger and many other ponies. When Blitz had enough he again pulled up as he was heading to the tallest casino in his view. He soon landed on it with ease as he decreased his speed like a professional flier. Blitz walked over to the edge of the building and shouted to the world.
"My name is Blitz, and I'm on top of the world!"
Blitz once again smiled and laughed to himself. Blitz seemed to be good at cheering himself up. Even if he was banned from his football team or if he was dumped by the mare of his dreams, our friend would just do something that would just turn his frown upside down. Blitz now traveled to the other side of the roof. He seen what looked like the main strip of the city. This street had all the big hotels and casinos Las Pegasus had to offer. "The Mane Strip." Blitz said to himself. "Beautiful at night. Dead during the day." The white pegasus then proceeded to the business area of the city, which looked similar to town square in Manehattan. Even as a little colt, he still remembered that city's view.
As he arrived at the weather center in 'Business Square', as Blitz called it since it was where pretty much where all business was in the city, he stood in aww at the sight of the building. It was a huge skyscraper that stretched at least 50 stories high. The building was all in steel as it shinned down on the ponies below it. Blitz seen in the reflection the weather logo of Equestria. Blitz knew that these ponies played hard ball. Blitz was nervous on the inside, but he simply just smiled and trotted through the gold revolving door that led into the grand tower.
The main hall was enormous. It was very spacious, minus the part where all the ponies were crowded in that single area trying to make business arrangements. On the walls of this ginormous room was paintings of all the different types of weather in the world. Tornadoes, hurricanes, rain, snow, hell even sand storms. The ceiling was the most amazing to Blitz. It was composed of giant lights that each were as bright as the sun. Each light outlined the ceiling so all you seen was lights. Blitz then made his way to the main desk in the center of the room. Lucky for him there was no line in one section of it. Blitz approached the mare. She was an old mare as she was taking and holding calls.
"Equestria Weather Center, please hold. Equestrian Weather Center, please hold. Mr. Pensville your wife is on line six." she ranted on like she was the most experienced secretary in the whole company. Blitz looked around the room one last time before he spoke up. "Um. Excuse me." The mare took one more call before putting her phone on the side. She looked at Blitz.
"Hello welcome to the Weather Center, how may I help you?" she said with a smile. "I'm here for an interview with a pony named Cloudrunner." he said. The mare looked on her computer. Blitz waited patiently as he let the mare look for any interviews for today. "Name please." the teal pony asked. "Blitz." She clicked a few times. "Ok Blitz, Cloudrunner is on the thirtieth floor and in office room 432. The elevator is over there." she said as she pointed her hoof over where most of the ponies were going in and out of. Blitz thanked the secretary and trotted over to the destination.
The strange thing to Blitz was that he never seen any elevator like this one. This elevator, well, had no elevator. Instead of waiting for one the pegasus ponies had to fly to there levels. He walked in the middle of the huge vacuum and looked up. He seen a cluster of ponies flying up and down levels. Some looked like they were just flying for the hell of it. Blitz smiled, for he never seen this type of pegasus transportation ever. Blitz flew off his hooves and began ascending. He seen the number of levels for they were on the glass behind him. He watched as the numbers went up. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen. Blitz laughed for he could see almost see the city of Las Pegasus.
Blitz finally made it to his destination. He flew forward and landed on the nice blue carpet. The white halls looked clean and sparkly, and each office door was black with white doorknobs and white numbers on the doors telling the ponies which room was which. Blitz trotted down the grand hall in search for the room he needed to go in. With each door he passed, he felt his stomach beginning to twist and turn, for Blitz was starting to get nervous. If he couldn't get this job he wouldn't ever to be able to keep his aunts house. Blitz finally arrived at the door he was looking for. Blitz knocked on the door. Blitz heard a voice inside telling him to come in. Blitz took a deep breath and exhaled. He entered.
The room was small but it was big enough to support an office space. The room too was pure white and spotless. In it was a big metal desk with an white stallion behind it. The stallion was on his phone just ending a conversation. "Yeah. Yes I know, I know. Blue and red. I got it. I gotta go. I got someone in my office." He hung up and flew up out of his chair and over his desk.
"Hey there. I'm Cloudrunner." the pegasus said as he offered a hoof. Blitz shook his hoof. "Hello, I'm Blitz and I'm.."
"Your here for a interview to become a weather pony." he said as he finished Blitz's sentence. "Yeah. How did you know? I could of been anyone." Blitz asked. "Kid please." Cloudrunner said as he turned around and proceeded back to his office chair, "Everyday I get colts and fillies like you. Always coming in here hoping they can get this job." The white stallion sat in his chair. "Sit." he said as he pointed to a the chair sitting across him. Blitz obeyed and took his seat. The colt behind the desk lounged back and spoke.
"So, why do you wanna be a weather pony?" "Well," said the colt opposite from the pegasus behind the desk. "I love to fly, and I love to play with weather. By that I mean I like getting order to make weather." Blitz answered as he cleared his throat. Cloudrunner nodded his head. "Ok, have you ever gotten into any flight accidents in the past?" Blitz shook his head. "Ok, good. Have you had a recent job in the weather business." "No. This is my first time actually signing up to be on the weather patrol." Blitz answered as he looked the colt across from him in the eyes. "Oh really?" Cloudrunner said as he scratched his buzzcut mane. Blitz nodded.
"I remember my first time I signed up to be a weather pony." he said as he re positioned himself in his chair. "You do?" Blitz asked as he leaned forward a little. "Oh yes. Most defiantly." the colt said as he looked Blitz right in the eyes. "I was around your age. Which was about..." he thought for a few seconds. "How old are you colt?" he asked Blitz. "Fifteen." Blitz responded. The pegasus nodded his head. "Yep it was about twenty five years ago when I signed up." Blitz shook his head, eager for the stallion to continue. "I started out on the Snowflake Brigade. That's the weather team that dealt with the cold winters in Trottingham. It was tough but it was nothing compared to the scotching heat of Hoofington." the colt said as he was now trying to remember his past.
Blitz wondered. If there was a job for all the cities in Equestria, were they assigned where the ponies lived. "Quick question." Blitz said not trying to interrupt the pegasus's thinking. "Ask." He said as he looked back at Blitz. "Are the ponies assigned to the towns they live in?" Cloudrunner got up from his chair and headed toward a map that was in the back of the room. Blitz's eyes followed the colt as he stood next to the map.
"No." he said with a shake of his head. "The ponies are assigned randomly to each of the ten cities and towns we help." He pointed to the cities that the company provides weather ponies too. As he announced the names he pointed to the cities and towns the company helped. "These towns and cities include: Canterlot, Manechester, Ponyville, Fillydelphia, Trottingham, Stalliongrad, Hoofington, Manehattan, Appleloosa, and of course Las Pegasus." Blitz was amazed with all the cities that the buisness helped. The colt flew back to his seat. "You guys help all those town with the weather?" Blitz said with and amazed tone. Cloudrunner nodded his head. "Yep. All ten of them. we are also going to include New Saddle soon. Just as soon as they can sign that contract."
"Contract?" Blitz asked.
The colt landed back in his seat and cleared his throat. "It is basically an agreement that the mayor of New Saddle has to sign for us to sent out weather ponies to the town and keep watch for any dangerous weather." Blitz nodded as he understood. "We have been in business for over two hundred years, and we are one of the most successful businesses on the face of the earth." he said as he moved his head in a bragging motion. Blitz was indeed impressed. With how much success this company was in, he would probably get paid three times as much as his football job. As much as the white pegasus wanted to listen to more of this stallion's story, the excitement of being a weather pony was all too much for our colt to bear. Blitz wanted to get employed right now.
"So." Blitz said keeping his cool as of on the inside, was about to explode in joy, "How do I become a weather pony?" He colt across from his went back to look at his computer. "Well, its simple. I just have to ask you a few questions and then you'll be good to go." Blitz shook his head. 'Easy enough.' Blitz thought to himself. "Since I already asked you three of the six questions." he said as he typed on his keyboard. "Ok." Blitz said as he sat straight back up. Cloudrunner continued to ask the other three questions.
"Do you have any problems with your body? Like heart problem, back, or anything in that area?" Blitz shook his head. "Nope. Im pretty healthy." The colt nodded.
"Ok. What did you get on your flight test in school?" Blitz thought about this one. 'Lets see. I think I got a six out of ten. Wait maybe it was seven. No. No. Eight. Oh damn it. What was it? Screw it.' Blitz spoke. "Seven. Seven out of ten." Blitz couldn't decide so he chose the middle between the two numbers. Cloudrunner typed on his keyboard and read something on his screen. Blitz waited patiently as he looked around the office space. "Ok. One more question." he said to the white pegasus. The other white pegasus looked at him and smiled.
"Have you completed Weather School?"
Blitz's smile immediately turned into a frown and his eyes lit up. "We..Weather School?" Blitz asked. "Yes. Weather School. You have completed Weather School correct?" Cloudrunner asked as he waited for an answer. Blitz never knew he had to go to Weather School to get this job. He was panicking on the inside. Yet Blitz acted calm. "Yeah..." Blitz said in a flustered tone. Cloudrunner was typing. "...About that." Blitz added on. Cloudrunner stopped typing and looked at Blitz with a confused look. Blitz didn't wanna take any chances with his luck with lying. After all he wasn't much of a lier. He always told the truth. "I didn't take Weather School. I never even heard of such thing." the white colt said honestly. The colt behind the desk looked at Blitz as if he done something awkward. "Oh." he said as he hit backspace a couple of times. "Well that may be a problem for you my friend." he said with a surprised laugh. "What do you mean?" he said confused. "Whats so important about it?" Cloudrunner leaned toward Blitz as he put his hooves on his desk for balance.
"Whats so important about it?!" he said in a laughing matter. He shot back in his chair, clapped his hooves together, and laughed. Blitz didn't understand why this was funny to him. The laughing colt sat back up whipping his eyes of the happy tears. "You have to pass Weather School for you to be able to become a weather pony. How have you not heard of it? Didn't anypony tell you before you came in here?" he said as he calmed down and straighten his tie out. Blitz mouth dropped open as he was shocked. He was so close to getting such an awesome job. The colt was just one question away from getting such an important task and he once again failed at it. "Without a clear certificate that states that you passed Weather School, I'm afraid there is nothing I can do." he said as he read off his computer and slouched into his chair. Blitz closed his mouth and he sunk into his chair. He looked down. As he seen the white carpet he imagined he was on a cloud. That is what he could of been on if he knew about going to take a class for weather pony.
"Tell you what." Cloudrunner said. Blitz looked up at him. "You got something in you saying that you will be perfect at this job. So I'm gonna do you a favor." Blitz sat back up and listened closely to what the white pegasus had to say. "I'm gonna hold a spot open for you. The longest I can hold this job opening for is three years. Which means you gotta get that certificate to me three years from now. I know that's a long time, but we have ponies come and go and we always have a spot open. If you can't get it in before the dead line, I wont be able to accept you."
Blitz's face lit up and a huge smile grew across his face. The white pegasus flew out of his seat and gave the colt one big tight hug. "Oh, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!" Blitz cried out in joy. The colt smiled as he was assaulted by Blitz with a giant embrace. Cloudrunner didn't hug Blitz back. All he did was tap him on his back. "Yeah just be back in three years. I could get fired for doing something like this." he said as he pushed the white pegasus away. Blitz nodded. "Thank you so much Cloudrunner. You'll hear for me." "Just be sure you can afford it. It costs five hundred bits." he said as he once again straitened out his tie. Blitz thought. 'Five hundred bits. I better save up on my earnings from football then.' Blitz shook the white pegasus's hoof and proceeded toward the door.
Blitz almost forgot to ask his final question to the colt. "Hey." Cloudrunner responded by looking at the stallion. "Where is the closest Weather School?" The white stallion flew out of his chair and proceeded to the map at the back of the room again. He pointed on the map. "Cloudsdale. That is the closest city that offers our training in Weather School. You'll have to take the train, but the closest it will take you is to Ponyvillle. From their you can fly. It would just take a mere ten minutes to get their." he said as he stared at the map and then looked at Blitz with a smile. Blitz couldn't show how much he wanted to thank the stallion, for he was kind enough to give him a chance at a really great job. He shook his hoof. "Thank you so much Cloudrunner. I don't know how I can repay you." Cloudrunner just laughed. "It's the least I could do. Like I said. You have something in you saying you can do this. Many have come to me for this job but none had what I seen here today."
Blitz was touched. He smiled he could feel water begin to form in his eyes. Tears of joy. Blitz has never experienced this kind of happiness before. Blitz again thanked Cloudrunner for all his help and proceeded to exit the building. As Blitz got back outside he stood in the middle of Business Square and took one deep breath. Then the white pegasus shot off the ground and went up in circles like a firework screaming with joy. He actually had a chance to accomplish something in his life. Now the only thing Blitz had to do was save up the money to get that certificate. And he got to have fun while doing it.
