The Electric Defender
A pinhead no more
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDust, dirt, and shards of the stone ground flew in all directions. The guards did what they could to avoid the debris, crouched low, covered themselves with their wings, or made a small frontal magic barrier; Luna, however, didn't even flinch.
She was about to flap her wings to clear the dust when a breeze dotted with specs of blue electricity blew through. As it passed over her the electricity brought a tingling sensation. The feeling gave her the chills, and for a moment her heart began to race in panic. She quickly pushed the panic down; Logan surrvived his fall into the Everfree Forest, he would surrvive this too. She repeated the logic in her head again, but a hint of doubt hung in her mind.
Lucky for her and the guards the breeze had cleared most of the dust, penetrating through the dust was a silhouette slouched over... or crouched down... Luna didn't know which, she was begin to panic again. As the dust fully cleared Luna's heart beat faster and faster until she thought her heart couldn't beat anymore. The dust was clear revealing Logan, unmoving.
Luna gave a stuttered exhale, uncertain of Logan's condition. Logan was bent over on one knee, his arms down helping him balance. Logan slowly inhaled as he rose to a standing position, he looked at his shirt and pants then patted the dust off them. He walked out of the indent he made from his legs.
Logan walked back a bit, "He he," Logan chuckled lightly, "Hulk smash."
Luna lifted a forehoof and hit the back of Logan's head. "Hey what was that for?!" Logan exclaimed rubbing the spot.
"For scaring the crap out of me!" Luna snapped back, "You couldn't have yelled something like, 'hey I'm okay,'?!"
"I was a little preoccupied with checking if I was alive," Logan replied.
"So how did you survive?" Luna asked.
"I use electricity to reinforce my bones and to shield points of impact from being damaged," Logan explained.
"Electroskeleton," Luna said.
"Nice name," Logan agreed then continued, "Why does distruction follow wherever I go?"
"Because you're the wrecking ball, and you don't make the damage, others do," Luna chuckled, "Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"
"Never say those words, they always lead to bad things," Logan warned.
"Yeah right, the changelings are gone and they were the only threat," Luna said, "It's nothing but smooth sailing from here."
"Don't jinx it," Logan said.
"You're starting to sound like Pinkie Pie," Luna said, "Come on, we've got to get you in your new clothes for the party." Logan wasn't sure what Luna had requested to be made, all he hoped was that it wasn't something uncomfortable. Luna lead the way back to her room, but just as they passed Celestia's room they heard a thud.
"No. Where is it?" Celestia's muffled voice said. Luna stopped and poked her head into the room.
"What are you looking for?" Luna asked.
"Nothing! Nothing!" Celestia said hastily, but Luna could tell what she was looking for.
"It's under the bed," Luna said.
"What is?!" Celestia said loudly pretenting not to understand.
"You know what is," Luna said, "And by the way, since Anvil and Hammer are my personal guards I did make them emortal."
"I'm... very happy," Celestia said confused.
"I know you are," Luna said, "Especially for Anvil." Celestia didn't respond and Luna continued down the hall again with Logan trailing her.
As they turned a corner Logan spotted Shining Armor. He tried his best to walk quietly by while faces were in the ground bowing to Luna as she passed, but Shining Armor Didn't bow, he saluted Luna instead. Logan tried to walked past without making eye contact, but Shining Armor put up a hoof stopping him. Logan prepped his electricity for a shield just in case Shining Armor decided to try exterminating Logan.
"Hey listen, I'm real sorry about blasting you off Canerlot," Shining Armor said, "I wasn't informed at the time of the things you did."
"It's fine," Logan said, "You acting like that shows how much you want to protect others." Luna grabbed Logan's arm with her magic sending him falling face first of the floor. She ignored this and kept pulling, dragging Logan down the hall. "The floor itn't forgiving, nor does it taste good." He eventually got to his feet and got close enough to Luna where she released him from her magic.
Luna looked at Logan and luaghed, "What happened to your face?"
"You know very well what happened," Logan grumbled healing the cuts on his face.
"You know, I just noticed how high your cheekbones are," Luna said.
"So what? I noticed there's a wall that you're about to walk into," Luna turned before hitting the wall, "I also noticed that most things in nature are controlled by ponies."
"And it isn't the same in your world?" Luna asked astonished.
"Where I come from, when you pick a fight with nature, you eventually end up getting your ass handed to you," Logan said, "So you either adapt to nature, or get killed."
"Sounds harsh," Luna commented.
"It's not so bad," Logan added, "Through time humans, slowly but surely, got smart enough to work around nature. However if nature doesn't kill you, time will."
"What do you mean," Luna asked confused.
"Think about it, everything must come to an end. I'm going to eventually die, my friends and family will eventually die, even the blue and green ball we humans call home will one day cease to existist. Now that last one will hopefully happen after humans go extinct, because experiencing the end of the world would not be pleasant; well the end of humanity wouldn't be pleasant either."
"You're so negative." Luna said in a scolding tone.
"I just face facts," Logan said, "Death is not a happy thing, because the brain saves the worst but most important thing for last: awareness that you're dying."
"Well when you put it like that..." Luna needn't finish the sentence. The rest of the walk was in silence, only the sound of Luna's hoofs could be heard on the floor. Logan's step was close to being completely silent. Luna turned back every now and again to make sure Logan was still following her. When Luna entered her room she looked for the clothes that were supposed to be done, she didn't see them anywhere though.
"Good fit," Logan said. Luna turned to see he already had them on. She looked at him with a puzzled face, then she looked back out into the hall, then back to Logan, and once again into the hall.
"How..." Luna pointed from Logan to the hall.
"Ninjas, aliens, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch," Logan said, "You'll never understand me."
"That I can agree on," Luna said nodding her head, "So how do they feel?"
"This feels like the underside of a comfy blanket." Logan said, "These pants feel like... like..." Logan rubbed the pant legs against his legs, "Well they feel like pants."
"Well that's a dumb way to describe them," Luna sighed.
"Well then," Logan said, "How 'bout I lie and say... 'Oh I feel like I don't even have pants on! It's like I'm running around in my boxers!'"
"Don't ever say something like that," Luna said.
"How do I look?" Logan asked.
"Really cool," Luna said, "See for yourself," Luna levitated Logan into the bathroom. Logan had to agree he did look... a little cool. The t-shirt was blue with spots that faded to green, gray, or black here and there. The sleeves went down to his elbows and was hanging only half and inch down. The bottom of the shirt went down to the middle of the top pockets on his pants.
The pants were all black and they weren't jeans, they were cargo pants. Black cargo pants, with two pockets where most pants had them and two back pockets. Then there were pockets on the pantlegs above his knees two identical, then under them were more still above the knees. Under the top cargo pocket on his right was a wide but shallow pocket. Under the top cargo pocket on his left were two small shallow pockets side by side.
"Excellent" Luna said, "Now I can get a good look at you without you being half naked from holes in your clothes." She slowly circled him with a smile on her face. Logan felt like she was smiling a bit too much.
"How do I look altogether?" Logan asked.
"Handsome."
"What?"
"I said, um, awesome. You look awesome!" Just then the door clicked, and began to open.
Author's Note
