Jack Patrick: The Secret World of Mesozoica
Chapter 11
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs soon as Emily reaches her house, she unlocks the door and opens it. Stepping inside, she gently puts down Fluttershy before shutting the door behind her.
Emily wipes her sweaty forehead. "Phew! We made it."
Fluttershy stands up and looks around. "Wow! This is a huge house."
"Well, not that huge," Emily says. "Come on, let's go upstairs."
They walk towards the stairs. Fluttershy, however, is limping. Despite that though, she tries to catch up.
Emily stops for her. "You need a hand?"
"No, I’m alright," Fluttershy says, trying to reassure Emily, “I can catch up, I promise.”
"Fluttershy, you're hurt. I can help you."
She sighs. "Okay."
Emily walks over to Fluttershy and carries her again. She carries the pegasus upstairs.
After they make it upstairs, Emily opens her bedroom door and steps inside. Her room is filled with animal posters and decorations.
Fluttershy smiles because of Emily's decorations. "Oh my gosh!" She exclaims.
"I know, right?" Emily gently places Fluttershy on her bed. "I'll go get the first-aid kit. Be right back." Emily walks out of the door.
Fluttershy looks around the room to see all the posters of animals she recognizes, including zebras, lions, bears, dolphins, birds, cheetahs, and wolves.
"I didn't know humans could be so passionate about animals. This is amazing!" Fluttershy says to herself.
She then looks at the poster of three horses on the wall in front of her. Fluttershy’s expression changes from happy to curiosity when noticing that ponies have been on Earth too. Unlike her species though, they're non-sapient here on this planet.
Suddenly, an orange and white cat jumps up from the floor, climbing on the bed right next to Fluttershy before it makes it up the bed and looks at her curiously.
"Oh, hello there," Fluttershy says to the cat.
The cat pauses before it bunts Fluttershy as she giggles.
Emily arrives with a first aid kit. "Hey, Kelly." Emily puts down the first aid kit, and she pets her cat. "Don't bunt, you silly cat. She's injured."
The cat, which is named Kelly, jumps off Emily's bed before she walks away.
Emily picks up the first aid kit, and opens it before she picks up a box of band-aids and a bandage. "Let me see your hind legs."
Fluttershy sits on her flank, and sticks her frontal hooves outwards.
Emily picks up a bandage and she gently rolls Fluttershy's left injured hoof. "Oh, you poor thing."
"I-I tried to tell them not to eat me, but, they wouldn’t listen. What’s worse was that they likely didn’t understand what I was saying."
"Fluttershy, it's okay. They're just animals. Coyotes are just scavengers, and they found you trapped and vulnerable in the bushes."
After she's done wrapping Fluttershy's left hoof, she rolls her right hoof.
"So, what were you doing in the woods?" Emily asks. "You could've gotten killed today."
"I was with my friends, and we were looking for another friend of ours who went missing."
"And then you got separated? What predator attacked you? A wolf? Bear? Cougar?"
"No. Changelings."
Emily has a look of confusion. "What are changelings?"
"They're bug-like creatures that could change forms and feed on love from other ponies."
Emily laughs. "Very funny, Fluttershy."
"I'm serious. Don’t you believe me?"
"Predators only kill and eat their prey to survive from hunger, and there's no way they could feed on emotions. And, by the way, no animal on Earth can change their appearances. Although, I've heard that amphibians and insects can change during their life cycle like a butterfly. And some animals like chameleons and cephalopods can change skin color for camouflage. And insects used to become larger when the Earth had more oxygen than today." Emily changes the subject. "So, where did you come from?"
"I come from Equestria."
"And where's that at?" Emily finishes wrapping her hoof.
"Oh, right,” Fluttershy remembers, before clearing her throat, “I’m not from this planet."
Emily's surprised. "Wait, you're an alien?"
Fluttershy nods.
Emily stands up.
Fluttershy becomes nervous. "Um, is anything wrong?"
"This...is..." Emily then exclaims. "AWESOME! I can't believe I just discovered an extraterrestrial lifeform! Mankind has been studying other planets for years while trying to find other life out there, and it looks like I've found it!"
Fluttershy laughs. "You look excited, Emily."
"Excited? I'm extremely overjoyed! You're from another planet, and you look... like a pony. Unless it's convergent evolution, right?"
"That's what I said."
Emily grabs a chair from her desk and sits on it. "Well, except for the fact you have the wings of a bird, large forward-facing eyes, very short muzzle, human-sized head, and...you've got a tattoo?"
Fluttershy looks at her flank. "Uh, no, it's a cutie mark. Ponies have it when they find their special talents."
"So you're a...Pegasus?"
"How did you know?"
"I've heard of Pegasi from the children stories I heard when I was younger. So, what are your wings for?"
"Well, we use our wings to fly, but...you’re world doesn’t have magic, we can't fly without it."
"Wait, your planet has magic? So, that's what Jack said is the rarest element in the universe."
"Who's Jack?"
"Oh, a friend of mine."
"How come I can't fly without magic?"
"Well, most birds have wings that are longer and wider than their body, just to support flight. Your wings are smaller than the rest of your body which is why you can't fly."
"Oh, that's right. I had forgotten how different Pegasi and bird wings are from each other."
"Did you just say 'bird'?"
"Yes, why?"
"Do animals from your homeworld look the same kind as Earth's animals?"
"Yes, actually,” Fluttershy answers, “It is strange, really. I'm not sure why every creature on both of our planets look so alike.”
Emily suddenly remembers something. "Excuse me." She fishes her iPhone out of her pocket. "I gotta text someone."
"What‘s that?" Fluttershy asks with a cock of her head.
"It's a cellphone. We use it to communicate with someone from long distances." Emily opens her contacts, swipes down until she finds 'Jack', and she presses it before she texts. "You've never seen a cellphone before?"
"Well, our technology isn't as advanced as yours. We send letters to friends mostly."
"That's good." After Emily's done texting, she sends it. "So, are you hungry?"
"Of course. A fruit salad would definitely be nice since I’m herbivorous,” Fluttershy says, “What do humans eat, by the way?"
"Humans are omnivorous, but I happen to be a vegetarian," Emily says. "Can you walk?"
"I can try."
With unintentional grace, Fluttershy carefully slides down Emily’s bed, until she lands on both hooves.
Fluttershy slowly trots toward Emily. Her legs are fine, but she decides to walk slowly to allow herself more time to heal.
"I'm okay."
"Great.” Emily says with a thumbs up, “Let's go downstairs."
Emily and Fluttershy walk out of the room.
