Chapter 12

While Mom's gone, Jack sits on his bed and looks through the book for clues about the ring. But, all he finds are images of prehistoric animals and writings that he doesn't have time to read. Twilight meanwhile is reading Jack's dinosaur book in front of Jack himself.

"You find anything, Jack?" Twilight asks.

"No. Just images of prehistoric animals. And just writing and stuff." Jack sighs in frustration. "Geez! I don't see anything related to the ring."

"Why don’t you just read it all?" Twilight deadpans.

"I don’t have time, Twilight. And these writings make no sense." Jack explains.

"Oh, I see." Twilight understands.

Jack closes the book, and he places it right beside him. "I hope Will and Emily can help us find your friends when they get back."

"Yeah."

"By the way, what're your friends' names? You know, the ones you traveled with." Even though Jack is only pretending to not know who Twilight's friends are, he wonders who else are traveling with her.

"Oh, well their names are Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Starlight Glimmer, and Spike." Twilight tells him.

"That's it?"

"Yeah."

Suddenly, the door knocks.

"Wait right here." Jack crawls out of the bed and walks out of the room, leaving Twilight to hide behind the bed.

Jack walks to the door and looks through the window behind the curtains beside the door, and he sees Will, now wearing his same hooded sweatshirt but he wears blue jeans, waiting outside.

Jack unlocks the door and opens it.

"Hey, Jack. I received your message." Will says. "What is it you wanted to show me?"

Jack pulls Will inside before shutting the door behind him, and locks it. "Will, before you see this, try not to freak out or get excited." He whispers.

Will's confused. "Okay. What is it?"

"Promise me you won't get freaked out."

"Okay, I promise."

"Good. Let me show you."

Jack and Will walk in, but the latter doesn't see Twilight. Will scratches his head, wondering what he’s supposed to be looking at.

Jack sighs. "You can come out now."

Before Will could say something, Twilight slowly emerges from behind the bed.

Will's eyes and mouth widen.

Twilight's nervous. "Um, is he okay?"

When Will starts to get excited, Jack drags him into the hallway. "Please, excuse me."

After Jack closes the door to prevent Twilight from hearing them, he says to Will.

"Oh my goodness! She's real!" Will exclaims quietly.

"I know, I know. But don't mention the show in front of her, and don't say her and the other ponies' names out loud in front of her until we meet them." Jack whispers. "How are your acting lessons from school”

“Oh, pretty good.”

“Great. Just put them to good use and pretend you have never seen her. Don’t mention Equestria yet either. Got it?"

Will takes a deep breath. "Got it."

Jack smiles. “Okay.”

Jack opens the door, and he and Will step inside.

"Is your friend okay?" Twilight asks.

Jack turns his head at Will and elbows him. Go on! Pretend you don't know her! Jack mouths.

Will clears his throat. "Sorry, I just...I’ve never seen a creature like you before."

"Twilight, this is my best friend, Will." Jack introduces Twilight. "Will, this is Twilight."

Twilight held out her right hoof. "Nice to meet you, Will."

Will shakes her hoof. "Nice to meet you too, Twilight."

"Anyway, let me explain." Jack picks up the book. "Twilight ended up getting separated from her friends, who came here for this book. She’s also using this ring..." Jack pulls out a ring out of his pocket. "...to track down the book."

"Wait a minute. She was after this book?" Will turns to Twilight. "How could you possibly know that?"

"It's a long story, but the cutie map lead us to the ring and I used it to track it down. We don't know what it does, but I noticed that Starswirl the Bearded wrote that." Twilight explains.

"What’s a cutie map? And who the heck is Starswirl the Bearded, anyway?"

Jack shrugs in frustration.

Will shrugs back. "I'm just saying."

He sighs. "Anyway. I messaged Emily so that she could see Twilight, and then we'll help her find her friends."

"And, now what?" Will asks.

Jack looks at the book. "And I guess we'll figure out what to do with this book."

"How about this," Twilight says. "After we find my friends, I'll bring the book to Equestria and bring it to Princess Celestia, asking her all about it."

Jack drops the book and the ring on the bed. "Wait, without us?"

"I'm sorry, Jack, but this is a pony mission."

"But, if you go out there without any magic or protection, you'll end up getting yourself torn to shreds."

"What're you talking about?" Will asks.

Before Jack could answer, his cell phone vibrates from the drawer. "I'll get it."

He walks over his cell phone and picks it up. He sees that it’s a text message from Emily.

“Hey, Jack. I'm at my house. But, when you come over, there's something I want you to see.” He reads,

"Who texted you?" Will asks.

"Emily. She said she found something." Jack says.

"What is it?" Twilight asks.

"I don't know. I guess we'll find out though." He turns to Will as he puts his cell phone in his pocket. "Hey, Will. Do you know Emily's address?"

"Sure. She's right across the street." Will says.

Jack flinches a little. "Really? How did you know?"

"I see her a bunch times when I’m at my house."

Jack blinks like he just came out of another world.

"Well, that was easy." Jack grabs the book and the ring. "Come on. Let's get to Emily's house." He grabs his grey light sweat jacket from the closet, and puts it on.

"Wait! What about me?" Twilight asks.

"Oh, that's right!" Jack says.

"How are we gonna hide her while we cross the street?" Will asks.

Jack rubs his chin in thought.

In the kitchen, Emily's making Fluttershy a fruit salad while Fluttershy's sitting on a table, waiting patiently for her food.

"Um, Emily?" Fluttershy asks.

"Yeah?" Emily says.

"Thanks for helping me."

Emily turns to Fluttershy with a smile on her face. "Aw! That's sweet."

Fluttershy blushes.

"This isn't the first time I’ve rescued an animal."

"Really?"

"When I was in Alaska while I was only nine, I was hiking in the mountains with my Dad. Suddenly though, I slipped and fell down the smooth slope until I landed into the river, luckily without any injuries. But then, I wasn't alone when I found a polar bear cub, stranded. He couldn't find his Mom, but he found me and he started to snuggle to me. He thought I was his mother. My dad found me and the polar bear, and we took him with us. After that, we sent him to the animal hospital. So, my dad raised him and called him 'Glacier', but he was imprinted by me since he found me. He snuggled with me every night when I was asleep, like he was a living blanket."

Fluttershy looks kinda sad. "So, what happened to the cub?"

"Nothing. Dad took care of him after my Mom, my sister, and I moved to Bozeman. My parents were divorced for two years. My mom wanted to move here, but, my dad didn’t want to take Glacier here because then he'll suffocate because of the warm temperatures."

"Oh, I see."

"Polar bears aren’t an endangered species, but I find that it’s better to protect every animal from extinction rather than just a few species. I want to grow up to be an environmentalist because I have a passion for animals."

"That's what I like to do. To help animals. I always take care of them at my cottage."

"That’s great.” Emily says, “Did you know that earth has several extinct animals from the past? Especially before humans existed?”

"Really?” Fluttershy raises a quizzical eyebrow, “How do you know that?"

Before Emily could answer, someone knocks on the door, causing Fluttershy to jump and hide underneath the table.

Emily crouches down under the table. "Fluttershy, it's okay. It's just someone at the door."

She didn't answer.

"Just wait here."

"B-but, Emily,” Fluttershy stutters, “I don't want to get caught."

"Don't worry, I’ve got your back."

Emily stands up and walks down the hallway, until she makes it to the door. She looks through the peeping hole and sees Jack, who is wearing a grey light sweat jacket, green shirt and blue sweatpants, holding the same book he found in the dumpster, as well as some sort of ring made of pure gold and bronze. Will, who wears the same hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, is also waiting outside, but between them is some creature covered by a grey blanket.

Suddenly, the creature speaks in a groaning tone with the voice of a teenage girl. "This is ridiculous!"

"Just relax. No one noticed you under the blanket." Jack says.

I've heard that Jack wanted to show me something, but is that what he's talking about? Emily wonders.

Emily unlocks the door and she opens it. "Hi, Jack. Hey, Will."

Jack doesn’t speak, but shyly waves his hand.

Will elbows Jack. "Go on. Say 'hi'."

"I just waved at her!" Jack says.

"You can come in now," Emily says while stepping aside.

After Jack, Will and the creature under the blanket steps inside.

Before Emily can ask what Jack has, she shuts the door.

The creature removes the blanket in frustration.

This shocks Emily when the creature with Jack and Will is the same exact pony species as Fluttershy, but lavender with purple and pink highlight mane and tail, a horn on its forehead, and wings slightly longer than Fluttershy, and has a 'cutie mark' of a pink star.

"Oh my gosh, Jack! You've found another one?" Emily exclaims.

Jack raises an eyebrow. "Another--"

But then he hears someone with a familiar voice from the kitchen. "Hey, Emily, who's at the door?"

The lavender creature is surprised by that voice, like she knows who it is.

Fluttershy shows up and gasps. "Twilight!"

"Fluttershy!" The creature exclaims as she runs over to Fluttershy for a hug.

"We all thought you were dead!" Fluttershy says with relief.

The creature stops hugging and glances at Fluttershy's bandaged hooves. "What happened to you?"

As Fluttershy explains to her friend what has happened to her, Jack, Will and Emily walk to the family room to have a private talk.

"Emily, where did you find her?" Jack whispers.

"I found her alone in the woods. But, how did you find the other one?" Emily whispers.

"They're from the show." Jack explains before clarifying, “My Little Pony.”

"What!?"

"But don't mention the show out loud," Will says.

"Why not?" Emily wonders.

"We don't know what would happen if anyone of us do reveal the show. If they find out, it would most likely be disastrous,” Jack explains, “Now promise me we don't tell them all about it, okay?"

Emily nods. "Okay."

The three young humans walk back to the two ponies.

"Emily, this is Twilight Sparkle." Jack introduces Emily to the purple Alicorn.

"Hi, Emily. It's nice to meet you." Twilight lets out her hoof.

Emily recognizes that it was some sort of 'handshake', or 'hoof-shake' in their case, so she shakes Twilight's hoof before she turns to Jack and Will. "And, Jack, Will, this is Fluttershy."

Jack crouches down, trying not to scare her. He lets out his hand. "Hi, Fluttershy."

Fluttershy doesn’t shake his hand. Instead, she backs away frightened.

"Oh, Fluttershy's very shy. So, don’t harass her." Emily says.

Twilight turns to Fluttershy. "Don't worry, Fluttershy. Jack's here to help us find our friends."

"Really?" Fluttershy says.

"Uh-huh,” Twilight assures.

"Come on, guys." Emily walks to the kitchen as the rest follow her.

Nearby, Chrysalis emerges out of the bushes, only to see a backyard of some sort of house in the distance. Using the excellent vision that she has, she sees that inside are three young humans. But, the figures with them are what interested her, namely, Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle. As a bonus, one of the humans has the book and the ring she's looking for.

Chrysalis smirks. "You're mine now!"

The other changelings emerge out of the bushes beside her.
