The Serpent

After a couple of hours of teaching Twilight to control water, she had really warmed to me. She took me inside and gave me tour of her house, which apparently is a library. I've never been good in libraries, but this one doesn't make me nearly as nervous. "Over here, this is where I keep the spellbooks," she rambled, "and this is the cookbooks section. There's only one book in it right now, and that's Pinkie's recipe for cupcakes! I should probably get to reading that, she wants me to bake some for her party tonight, because she's going to be busy..."

I zoned out a bit while Twilight grabbed the book and began to read. I started thinking about how I was going to find my friends. They were hibernating inside the bodies of other ponies? That part, I just did not understand. I realized that Twilight could probably teach me something. What if equestrian mythology was similar to greek? I turn to Twilight, who's face is now white. Her eyes are wide as she reads Pinkie's recipe book. "Is something wrong?" I ask.

Twilight slowly looks up, fear in her eyes, "Pinkie has a terrifying sense of humor. This book is about cutting ponies to pieces and baking them into cupcakes... Did you need something?"

"Er, yeah. Can you get me anything you have on Equestrian mythology?"

Her eyes lit up, "OH! That's one of my favorite subjects! What kind, the Humanity Myth? Or the creation of equestria? Or maybe you're looking for something more solid, like the history of Celestia?"

That last one caught my attention. I swear I've heard that name before. "I'll take that last one you mentioned. Who's Celestia?"

Her mouth dropped, "You-you're kidding. You're kidding, right? The RULER of Equestria, and you don't know her?"

"No."

She smiled sympathetically, "Well, I'll do you one better than just giving you a book. I'll take you to meet her myself."

This time, MY mouth dropped, "You can do that? Just magically you have an appointment with the QUEEN?"

She looked confused, "What's a queen? She's our princess. And I'M her star student," she beamed, "so naturally, I can drop in pretty much whenever."

Getting to Canterlot was the easy part. Twilight could just teleport us there with her magic. When we got there, the city was dark. All electricity was gone. No sounds littered the streets. I look around, "Where is everypony?"

She looks uneasy, "Maybe a holiday?"

I glance at her, "You lived here. Wouldn't you of all people know?"

She was silent, which scared me. I heard a noise from a nearby building. A sort of buzzing, like bees, but more mechanical. Suddenly, a bronze serpent the size of my apartment erupted from the roof. I reached for Riptide, but then I remembered. No pockets. "RUN!" Twilight screamed.

I thought about my sword, and how it always reappeared with me. What if I could summon my sword? Not out of my pocket, but out of thin air? I concentrated as I ran, and sure enough, my glowing bronze blade appeared before me. I picked it up with magic and turned toward the serpent.

"You aren't ssssssssupposssed to be here!" The serpent hissed.

"Yeah," I glared back, "I know. Just leave now, and I won't destroy you."

It's eyes glowed, and then it lunged, I tried to parry with Riptide, but my reflexes aren't the same with magic. The bite missed me by an inch. I imagined a human avatar around my body that could hold the sword, but naturally that didn't work. There's only so much magic can do. I decided to just throw my sword at him, and then when it misses, I'll whip it back around like a boomerang.

The plan worked perfectly. Soon enough, I had a mechanical snake head by my feet. My sword had disappeared, and Twi was gawking at me from across the street. "How- how did you..."

She was speechless.

A voice boomed from down the road, "Congratulations! You conquered the monster!"

I turn and see a great white alicorn, with a flowing mane of many colors and a big smile. But when she saw me clearly, that smile faded very quickly, and her already white face paled.

"Come with me," she sighed, "We have a lot to talk about."

-More to come, sorry for the delay on this chapter, and that it's a short one. I've been busy-
