The King

(Hooray! I got around to making a longer chapter!)

As we walked, I looked at Diggy, "Um... is 'Diggy' really your name?"

He laughed, "No, silly. My real name was slightly embarassing, so I chose Diggy as a nickname. It's been so long, only my mother remembers my real name."

"What about your father?"

His face darkened, "Well, you see, my father died in the iron mines. We wanted to try to recreate a broken piece of technology we had found that would allow us to see on the surface. There was a gas leak, and one of the torches lit the explosion."

"Oh," I say quietly, "I'm sorry. Wait, I thought the King was your father?"

"Erm, no. He married my mother. But that's alright. Common mistake."

I lean over to Pinkie, "Pinkie, are you sure we should go through with this?"

She laughed, "Of course we should. The readers have absolutely no idea where the writer is going with this! We have to keep moving."

Wait, what? "What are you talking about?"

"Nothing you should worry your pretty little sea foam green head over! Let's go!"

She seemed a bit impatient, but I'm guessing that's just Pinkie Pie. "What were those things upstairs, the 'Thought Sirens?'"

She paused, "Well... they represent your Id, the part of your mind with only primal instinct. They're SUPPOSED to be inside my head, but I guess I just broke the barrier somehow. Twi says I'm really good at breaking barriers. Personal space, Real space, the fourth wall..."

She rambled on for a few minutes. I realized what the two had meant. They really were inside my head. Inside me, there is bloodlust, and... other things...

I ran into Pinkie, who had suddenly stopped. "We're here!" She said in a singsong voice.

The castle resembled the Underworld Fortress. The only difference was, this one wasn't really depressing at all. It was made of a warm bronze, with fires blazing in the braziers. The black lining didn't show scenes of death, but scenes of great courage and strength of Equestria's heroes. I wondered who all had been down here before, and then realized I was probably the first overworlder in a long time.

The onyx gates swung open silently. A royal guard walked out, but unlike Celestia's guards, these were black pegasi with armor made of diamond-encrusted obsidian. It would be really tough to break if I had to make an escape. Of course, the armor didn't look very comfortable or easy to move in, so I might have a sporting chance.

We followed the guards through the palace. There were paintings of many sizes on the walls. And then we hit the throne room.

It was a huge room, even larger than Celestia's. The floor was made of gold, and the rest was made of onyx. The throne itself was a mirror of Celestia's, but instead of being made of gold, it was made of a pure black substance I couldn't identify.

The stallion on the throne was not what I was expecting. Unlike most of the darker-colored pegasi we had seen down here, he was albino. Pure white, even his eyes. But the way he sneered at us made him seem sinister, even though his words were kind.

"Welcome, visitors. And Madame Pinkie, how wonderful it is to see you again."

She bowed gracefully.

"And Perseus Jackson. I was wondering when you would show up. Nico has been DYING to see you."

"What? Nico is here?" I stammered.

"But of course. I mean HONESTLY NOW, the Albino Pegasus look must be strange, but you have to admit it was obvious who I am in your world. I mean, seriously. 'King of the Undergound' kinda gives it away, don't you think?"

Derp. "Hades?"

His booming laughter echoed through the halls, "Well, DUH. I really thought it was going to take you longer than that. I really did. But you beat the odds, congratulations. You know what you win? I'll let you take Nico. That boy just CAN'T shut up."

A shadow appeared on the floor. "That shadow contains Nico's soul. Get it to the Overworld, and he will be restored. I'm afraid my nephew failed to bring Nico here successfully. Hurry up and finish this stupid mission of yours so I can go back to being me. I hate this form..."

"How do I take a shadow?"

"Touch it. Duh."

I poked the shadow and it morphed into a small black stone the size of my hoof. I float it in the air with my magic and start out of the room.

"Not so fast, Jackson." Hades laughs, "I can't just let you leave. Not without getting you back for last time you visited me."

I knew the guards would be after me, so I grabbed Pinkie, who was still bowing for some reason, and pulled her out the door by her poofy tail.

The guards were on us within a minute. They took us, and locked us in the dungeon before I could even summon my sword.

"Perfect.." Pinkie mumbled, "I was going to make muffins for Derpy when I got home."

It could have been minutes, hours, or even days before I heard a voice through the bars. "Trident?"

"Who's there?" I said apprehensively.

"It's Diggy," I saw his face through the bars, "I can get you out of here, but you need to be quiet."

He scrunched his face up in concentration, and then kicked the bars. They bent like wet clay.

"Pinkie!" I whipered.

She woke up screaming, "NO MOM DON'T WANNA OH WAIT."

Diggy groaned, "Yeah, this escape is going to be a lot harder than I thought. There's no way the guards didn't hear that. Let's get moving."

I summoned my sword early this time and scouted ahead. No guards. Strange...

"Diggy, how long has it been?"

"About two weeks. Everybody's upstairs in War Council. Apparently they want war against the overworlders."

I cursed. Two weeks was a long time to be missing. But since everypony was upstairs, we were able to get out of the palace safely, even though Pinkie did scream that one time.

"See you later, Diggy."

"You too, good luck!"

Pinkie and I started up the staircase. I had forgotten how long these were...

We made it back to the room with chains. Pinkie stopped dead. "They- they're gone..."

I turned around. The chains were broken.

We'd been gone for two weeks. The Murderer and the Temptress had escaped.
