After the tragic loss of his parents, the pegasus was determined to join the Royal Guard in an attempt to protect ponies. His foster parents, who were close friends to his parents, weren't sure how they felt about it.

In the end, they let him go to the training academy, at the earliest age possible, 16. This is when Astro's life starts to kick off.
