Dark Skies

In the silent town of Trottenheim, ponies exited their homes to see a spectacle. It wasn't the light snowfall or the dark clouds, abnormal in Equestria this time of year admittedly. But, it was the red fires in distance. Foals were smiling at the amazing sight. The full grown ponies could only look in fear towards the fires, for it was Canterlot. Canterlot was burning.

Unbeknownst to them, there was a bright flash in the home of Orion's father, “Essan Manar.” The flash subsided, revealing seven ponies and a dragon, their bodies covered in soot, and their minds distraught. Twilight Sparkle, was far removed from reality, too far to notice her injuries or her friends injuries for that matter. Twilight didn't have a lot going through her mind, rather, she just had one question on her mind, “Why?”.

Orion limped over to a first aid kit and got to work on Twilight and her friends. Applejack's mane was burnt a tiny bit but was otherwise okay. Rainbow Dash was in tears. Not over the destruction of Canterlot of the betrayal of her leaders, but the Wonderbolt shirt with the signatures of Soarin, Spitfire, and veteran “Warden”, was now ash. Pinkie, who's mane was poofy during the party, was now completely flat. Orion had knew of Pinkie's parties through notoriety only and that those parties could lift anyponies spirit. What kind of party could fix this bucking situation. Rarity was dusting herself off and was rambling.

“I-I cannot- WILL not believe that- that Celestia-” She teared up and started to cry. Orion saw that she was fine and checked on Fluttershy. She was already fixing up Spike, whose leg appeared to be broken. Orion smiled, Fluttershy appeared to be handling the situation well.

“Hey um- Fluttershy was it?” Orion asked. She looked towards Orion and nodded. Orion passed some medical supplies to her. She smiled at him and got back to work on Spike. Orion then focused his attention on Twilight. She was obviously lost in thought. She had a cut on her leg as well as multiple burns on her back. She appeared to have been affected the most by that spell Celestia used. It makes sense Orion thought, She is the Element of Magic. He got to work on her. The patch job was easy, considering she didn't move at all.

Orion marveled at his medical job. Apparently all those fights at the bar had taught him more than he thought. Orion then stood before his new friends and said, “Hey listen, it's probably not safe to travel out there.” Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash gave Orion their attention, but Twilight, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity were still distraught. “You're welcome to stay here for as long as you need to. I'd recommend getting some rest, you all did give out a lot of energy back there.”

Applejack nodded. “Right, you got anywhere to sleep-?” Applejack gave a quizzical look to Orion.

“Oh.” Orion said with a sudden realization. “My name is Orion, I'm an . . . 'acquaintance' of Twilight back in our school days.” Orion decided, now wasn't the best time to bring up the past. Applejack came up and shook Orion's hoof.

“Good to know you Orion.” Applejack said. “Glad you came in when you did. A few more seconds and we'd be burned like when my little sister and her friends try to make breakfast.” This got a smile out of Rarity. Her thoughts drifted back to Sweetie Belle, who was far away from Canterlot before the attack.

Orion chuckled a bit. “Well, we got some guest rooms on the second floor for you all to use.” Orion motioned for them all to go up stairs and sleep. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy had to help Pinkie get to a bed, considering how lost she was. Applejack and Rarity were about to help Twilight when she spoke up.

“No.” She said. Applejack and Rarity took a step back with surprised looks on their faces. “I'll catch up, I need to talk to Orion.” Applejack and Rarity nodded and went on their way. Twilight turned to Orion. “Why Orion? Why?” She started to cry a bit.

Orion went over and hugged her. “I don't know Twilight. But she's been planning this for a while.” He stepped back and looked into Twilight's eyes. He sighed and said, “I think she's always been like this, just biding her time until she could get her power back.”

This did not help Twilight, as she went back into her memories, remembering Celestia.

It was a few days after the accident that caused Twilight to give off a magical discharge that blew up a building. Twilight was resting in her room in a tower high in the Canterlot palace. She looked down at the construction work being done to fix the building and the surrounding area. She heard a knock on the door.

“Twilight? It's me, Princess Celestia?” Twilight quickly got up from her bed and composed herself, trying to clear up her sad face and ruffled mane.

“Come in your majesty.” Twilight said as she stood at attention. Celestia opened the door and walked in. She wore a face of concern for her dear student.

“Twilight, the sentence has been cast.” Celestia walked over to Twilight. “The students involved have black marks added to their records, and Orion, the ring leader has been expelled. Twilight closed her eyes and said,

“I'm sorry Princess, I should have composed myself more.” Celestia smiled at her student. She has never had somepony as loyal as her. She nuzzled Twilight and said,

“You have nothing to apologize for Twilight Sparkle. The other students betrayed your trust, and they're now paying the price.” Celestia motioned for Twilight to follow her to the balcony. “There will be plenty of people that will want to hurt you Twilight, or want you to betray who you truly are.” She gave Twilight that warming smile of hers and said, “But you can always trust me.” Twilight smiled at her teacher and leader and happily nodded.

“Thank you Princess, you are too good to me.” Celestia and Twilight looked out over Equestria.

Twilight continued to sob. The one pony she placed complete unbreakable trust in, and Celestia didn't just break it, she incinerated it. Orion hugged Twilight harder. He didn't say anything, he knew how bad it was to talk. The wrong words could destroy a pony. And Twilight's mind didn't need to move from completely destroyed to nothing.

Celestia stood before hundreds of Alicorns in the Palace throne room. All neighing, all showing their power off, annoying Celestia to no end. She stomped her hoof, a way to show her power. Power was something the Alicorns respected. Celestia cleared her throat.

“My Alicorns.” She looked around, seeing that every Alicorn was listening. “We have a very daunting task ahead of us. We must convince the ponies of Equestria to follow us, or else-”

“Or else what?!” Celestia was interrupted by an Alicorn named, “Typhoon.” She gave him a dark glare. “We don't the ponies to follow us, we can just destroy them like before. I've only eaten a few ponies since I got back from that Faust forsaken prison, and I don't plan on stopping!” Typhoon yelled with a growl. Celestia heard a few Alicorns yelling with approval.

Celestia glided down to Typhoon gracefully and slowly walked towards him. Typhoon was undaunted by Celestia's approach. Celestia got into Typhoon's face and said, “Are you challenging me Typhoon?” Celestia raised an eyebrow. “Because, if I remember correctly, I'm the one who freed you from your prison. I'm the one that controls this land.” Typhoon stood his ground, growling all the while. “And I am far more powerful than you are Typhoon. You're not even in the same league.” Typhoon's face was flooding with anger. “Don't challenge me Typhoon, you'll just get hurt.”

Celestia turned from Typhoon and was about to fly to her throne when Typhoon yelled, “I'll show you who rules Alicorns!” Typhoon conjured an energy storm which he focused and sent towards Celestia. It impacted, leaving a cloud of dust. Typhoon laughed maniacally until he saw Celestia's figure within the cloud. He didn't scratch her, he didn't even scratch her jewelry or shoes. Celestia turned around.

“Okay, boy.” She unfurled her wings and powered up her horn. “Show me.”

Typhoon gasped and tried to make his way out of the court room. Only for Celestia to fire a beam of energy that annihilated him. The other Alicorns remained silent. A magical essence of Typhoon was left behind, which Celestia absorbed. She returned to her throne.

“Anyone else want to question my leadership?” Celestia asked. The court remained silent. “Good, we do things my way. Or else you'll end up like Typhoon there.” The court rang with approval. One Alicorn name “Aldolore” shook his head and flew out of the court room. The rise of the Alicorn hierarchy had begun.
