Chapter 31: The Showmare Arrives

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Sunset had arrived home the previous night and snuggled up to Cloud. Cloud woke up, she smiled as she saw Sunset stirring. Cloud smiled “I’m glad you’re alright.”

Sunset yawned “It wasn’t too bad, I’m a lot stronger than I was when I was in Squirrel City. I better go and check on Dash, we have training today.”

Cloud gave her a serious look “You and I are going to have some fun tonight, you better be prepared.”

Sunset smiled “I will be, don’t worry.” Sunset left she burst into a run, she arrived at the Ghastly Gorge but all she could see was the dusty canyon and Quarray Eels moving through the canyon. Her horn glowed and with a flash of light she was standing outside Rainbow’s cloud house, she banged on the door “Rainbow Dash!”

Rainbow and Gilda groaned in unison “Arghh, we shouldn’t have drank so much last night.” They looked at each other “Where are…”

Rainbow’s eyes widened “We didn’t, did we?”

Gilda looked down at the the could bed in horror, the blankets was soaked through “We did, we slept together.”

Rainbow slumped “I’m sorry Gilda, it was my fault we got drunk.” They head a shout “Rainbow, is everything alright in there?!”

They both winced from the sound Rainbow took a deep breath “Sunset’s here, Gilda we both need a shower. I’m going to let you go first so I can speak to Sunset.”

Rainbow flew down the stairs and opened the doors, she frowned “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for training, me and Gilda drank a lot last night and are bit hungover.” Sunset smiled her horn glowing, Rainbow felt the pounding in her head ease up “How did you do that, my headache is gone?”

Sunset smiled “I came up with that spell, sure there are other spells like it but usually they take an hour to work. This one works instantly.” She then frowned “I often use don Celestia after the Summer Sun Celebration as the following night she drank until she passed out, I’m sure you know why.”

Rainbow blinked “Really.”

Sunset nodded “Yes” she then grinned “So who’s the lucky mare?” Her grin widened as Rainbow’s muzzle glowed red “I live with Cloud, I can smell it from here.”

Rainbow took several deep breaths trying to calm down, she frowned at Sunset once she had calmed down “She’s not mare, she’s a hen.”

Sunset smiled “A Griffon huh, so I’m assume that’s her coming down now.”

Gilda came down the stairs “The shower’s available…” She saw Sunset sitting there across from Rainbow. Rainbow nodded as she darted up the stairs.

Sunset grinned as beckoned the griffon over with a claw “So, how did you end up sharing a bed with Rainbow?”

Gilda growled “It’s not like that, we were both drunk and didn’t know what we doing! It was an accident, a mistake!”

Sunset raised her claws “Relax I’m just teasing you” she then frowned “though in all seriousness being drunk just lowers your inhibitions, if you want this then don’t let an opportunity pass you by.”

Gilda slumped “I don’t know, I have no experience with any of this. Back home everyone barely tolerates each other’s presence and marriages are arranged by your family.”

Sunset put a comforting claw on her shoulder “Look, I know this is rough but you only live once. I made a choice based on the fact I didn’t want to die with any regrets, so take a chance before it slips through you claws.”

Gilda smiled weakly “Thanks, my name is Gilda by the way. Rainbow told me a lot about you.”

Sunset nodded “You’re very different from the Griffon Diplomats that I’ve met, they were very rude. It’s good to know that there are good griffons out there.”

Gilda sighed “Most Griffons are like that, I used to be like that before I met Dash. I try to be a better Griffon for her sake.”

Sunset smiled “Well that’s good.”

Rainbow flew down the stairs, she smiled “Gilda I’m glad you’re getting along with Sunset.”

Gilda rubbed the back of her head nervously “Dash, do you want to go out for dinner tonight?”

Rainbow raised an eyebrow “Gilda, are you asking me out on a date?” Gilda nodded with a nervous smile, Rainbow gave the Griffon a peck on the cheek “Sure, I’m totally up for that.”

Sunset smiled “Well let’s go down to Ponyville, I forget to have breakfast.”

Rainbow grinned “To Sugarcube Corner, Gilda come and join us!”

Gilda nodded “Okay, Dash.” The two flew down to the ground, they landed. Gilda frowned “How is Sun…” Gilda jumped as Sunset slammed into the ground on her hind legs.

Sunset smiled “Come on let’s go eat.” Gilda was stunned for a few moments before she flew after Rainbow and Sunset in order to catch up.

As soon as they entered Pinkie jumped out in front of them, Gilda and Sunset almost lashed instinctually. Rainbow pushed Pinkie down, Rainbow grimaced “Be more careful, you could have been hurt again.”

Sunset passed Pinkie some bits as she handed them three cupcakes each. Before they took a bite Spike ran in “There’s a showmare in town, I’m curious what she is capable of.”

Sunset nodded “I’m curious as well, show magic is very flashy. Maybe this will be fun.”

Rainbow smiled “I’m coming as well.”

Gilda swallowed a Cupcake “Sure I’ll come.” The two ponies and griffon followed the young drake into the centre of town where a large group of ponies stood before a wooden stage with red curtains, a single light blue hat standing on the stage.

Cloud smiled “Over here, the show is about to start!”

Applejack frowned “I’m not sure about this, sounds like she is just going to spout a whole bunch of tall tales.”

Rarity frowned “Someone telling a story, is like a book. It is not here to be factual, it is there to be entertaining. I enjoy the odd novel every now and then.”

Suddenly a light purple unicorn mare with a mane of dark blue, moderate purple and raspberry wearing a light blue cape similar to the hat climbed out of the hat. She placed the hat and then shout her voice booming with the power of magic “Behold the might of the Mystical and Magnificent Twilight Sparkle!”

Applejack growled “She’s just an arrogant braggart, Ah’m going to..”

Rainbow frowned “Applejack, you do realise that wasn’t that different from me. Besides this how she makes a living, at the end of the day being over-the-top is the point.”

Twilight’s horn glowed as magical image of mighty bear materialised tearing through a small town “When an Ursa Major tore through the town of Hoofington” the image shifted as she continued “using all of her magical might the Mystical and Magnificent Twilight Sparkle repelled the Ursa Major.”

The crowd cheered as they saw the exhausted Twilight in the story collapse as the Ursa Major retreated. Gilda grinned “That was quite entertaining,”

Sunset nodded “You know it’s quite possible that she did it, she was clearly exhausted at the end of the story.”

Applejack grimaced “I’ll believe it when I see it.” None of them noticed two colts running away towards the Everfree Forest eager to prove them wrong.

Night had fallen, Twilight was taking a deep breath “I used a lot of magic today, storing oneself inside a pocket dimension is difficult.” She looked at her flank, to see an Ursa Major being blasted away by beam of magic. She then picked up a photo of a younger version of herself standing next to an orchid filly with a broken horn “I’m sorry Fizzie, for everything. I should have gone with you but I was too scared.”

Just then she heard knocking, she opened to see two colts “Who are you two?”

The portly colt smiled “I’m Snips and this is my friend Snails, we brought an Ursa Major into town so you can beat it.”

Twilight growled “You idiots, I am not at full power due to the show earlier! It took all of my power to best one last time! If I die you are paying for my funeral!” She galloped out of her to see the large purple bear, her horn glowed as several razor sharp blades formed around her. The Ursa turned to her and roared as she fired blades at it, she dodged the next strike before firing more blades at it.

Her horn began to burn as her magic reserves depleting rapidly, she fired one last barrage at the beast before collapsing. Her eyes widened as she saw Sunset pick up the Ursa Major and throw it back into the forest, Sunset approached her sending a bit of her magic into the unicorn.

Twilight stood up weakly “I didn’t have enough magic left after the show.”

Sunset smiled “It’s alright, you held it off so we could evacuate all the ponies from the area.”

Twilight nodded as she turned to Snips and Snails “So what do we about the two colts who brought the beast here.”

Sunset looked at the four scowling parents hovering over the pair “I’d say we leave the parents to decide their fate.” Twilight smiled as she headed back to her trailer to rest.
