Responsibilities
Rainbow
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSpike munched on a sub as he made his way towards the opposite end of Ponyville, licking a small clump of thousand island dressing from a corner of his mouth. Coming back from Fluttershy’s cottage, he had stopped in to his favorite sandwich shop before continuing to Rainbow. Crossing the small bridge over a stream which separated downtown Ponyville from the outskirts, he popped the rest of the sub into his jaws and cleaned his claws with a few quick licks of the tongue.
Passing a few scattered dwellings, he made his way towards the house that stood out most among the thatched roof, wooden homes of the town. An impressive, three story structure rose above the others, its puffy, bluish appearance betraying it as being made of cloud instead of more mundane building material.
It was kind of ironic, Spike thought as he approached, that she lived in such a tall house, as Rainbow had been restricted to the first floor for quite a while now. In fact, the last time she had been able to climb her own stairs was the day she was forced to have her home brought down from the sky and placed firmly on the ground.
Reaching up to knock, he thumped a fist into the soft material. After waiting for a muffled response, he twisted the knob and opened the door, entering the building. These particular clouds had been enchanted to be solid for any creature, not just pegasi, and stepping on them was always a weird experience for the dragon. The fluffy substance molded around his claws and left little drops of condensate on their ivory tips.
Just inside the doorway, he found that the bottom floor was filled with stacks and stacks of boxes, sealed packages covering most of the floorspace from the entry hallway into the adjacent kitchen. Maneuvering around the spires of cardboard, Spike worked his way into the house, walking past said kitchen and to the living room at the end of the hall, where he found Rainbow sitting in a couch in the middle of the room.
Well, “sitting” might not have been the right word. Really, the blue mare was laying on top of her massive gut, her flabby forelegs tucked underneath huge folds in the soft fat. Her ass completely filled the sofa behind her, the hoofrests on either side squishing the blobby mounds, causing them to ooze over their tops and down the sides of the furnishing. With her enormous butt consuming every last inch of what was supposed to be a three-seater, the rest of the expansive mare had no choice but to simply lay in front of it, using her belly as a velvety soft cushion.
Her lack of flight was emphasized by the folds of back flab that covered most of her wings, the heavy flesh obscuring all but a few frayed feathers, unkempt from her complete inability to preen them. Overall, she was even fatter than Fluttershy, well over half a ton by this point.
The prismatic pegasus was currently placing a bookmark in the Daring Do she had been reading, the hardcover resting on a pillow of fat that pushed out in front of her. Looking up, she greeted the dragon with an enthusiastic smile.
“Hey Spike! You’re just in time,” she said while bracing to get up from her resting position. Rainbow dug her forelegs out from the folds of her belly, their fatty sleeves wobbling, and placed her hooves flat on the floor. With the book held in her mouth, she grunted as she pushed upward, lifting her immensely heavy body until her legs were straight. To be honest though, Spike thought, there really isn’t much of a difference between her standing up and her laying down. Rainbow’s belly-bed had been keeping her at nearly her full height anyways, and whereas Fluttershy’s tummy had simply grazed the ground while standing, her's pushed firmly into it.
“In time for what, exactly?” Spike asked as he grabbed the book from the big mare’s mouth, placing it back onto a nearby bookshelf.
“Uh, to help me train, duh!” Rainbow responded, gesturing with a hoof in the direction of the stacks of boxes. Looking behind him, the dragon quickly walked over and snagged one of the mystery parcels, shaking it lightly while returning to the obese pegasus.
“Training huh, so what’s in these anyway?” he asked, leaning into her side and using her squishy barrel for support. Raising a sharp claw, he slid it down the tape running across its top, the flaps springing open at the loss of their binding. Looking inside, Spike saw what appeared to be dozens of vacuum sealed packages of long, brown cylinders. “Haydogs?”
“Yup! The Appaloosa Rodeo’s coming to Ponyville this year, and one of the main events is a haydog eating contest.” Spike grinned at that—he really should have guessed from the moment he had walked in.
Rainbow Dash was probably the one who had taken her sudden weight gain the hardest. She had built her life on being athletic, even going so far as to self identify as the ‘fastest flyer in Equestria.’ When she had finally gotten too fat to fly, and was forced to officially resign from the Wonderbolts, she had fallen into a depressed funk that had lasted weeks. Fortunately, her fiery, combative nature wouldn’t allow her to sit and mope for long, and she soon found another passion to fill that hole, one that fit much more smoothly with her newfound obesity: eating competitions.
What had started out as simply something fun that Applejack had convinced her to try quickly morphed into a hobby, then into a passion, and now, due to the prismatic mare’s nature, an obsession. She was currently the reigning blue ribbon winner of twelve competitions across six different cities, and she was always on the look-out for new events to dominate. She even adapted her moniker, no longer the fastest flyer, she was now the fastest eater in Equestria.
“So what,” Spike asked, “you want me to cook all these?” He glanced back towards the dozens of boxes covering the floor warily.
“Nah, they come precooked anyway, reheating ‘em would just be a waste of time.” Rainbow tilted her head in the direction of the packages. “Half’a those are haydogs, the other half are buns. Just put ‘em together and keep ‘em comin’ for me.” A determined grin spread across the mare’s face, dimpling her round cheeks.
Dutifully, Spike began to unpack the boxes, placing their contents into two piles, one for dogs, the other for buns, in the living room near where she had again parked her heavy body. Once the entire supply had been prepared, he ripped into a pack of haydogs, removing one of the greasy tubes of ground hay and spices, before likewise opening a pack of the soft, doughy rolls and combining the two, completing the basic sandwich. For a moment, he looked at the morsel held in his claws. Were haydogs sandwiches? If a hayburger was a sandwich, and the sub he’d had earlier was a sandwich, wouldn’t it make sense for a combination of the two to also be a sandwich? But thinking about it, he’d never actually heard anypony refer to one as such.
Shaking the loose thoughts from his mind, Spike placed the whatever-it-technically-was onto a platter he’d taken from the kitchen before going back to assemble another one, covering the entire tray with thirty of them in just over a minute. The dragon then carried them over to the patiently waiting Rainbow, once again laying on her belly like a mattress. He set it down onto the same pillow of fat that her book had been resting on, allowing her easy enough reach to pack them into her salivating maw.
Immediately, the obese pegasus reached up with a foreleg, its thick sleeve of fat wobbling, and grabbed one of the haydogs, shoving it into her mouth whole, only chewing a hoofful of times before swallowing.
“Uh, Dash,” Spike interrupted before she could do the same to another unfortunate victim, “aren’t you supposed to, like, dip the bun in water or something?”
“Eh,” she shrugged in response, “a lot of ponies do, I guess it’s supposed to help get them down faster. But, it’s also super gross, so I just do it the good ole fashioned way.” And before he could intervene again, the rotund resumed stuffing herself with haydogs. Realizing the platter he’d arranged was already nearly half depleted already, the dragon hurried back to continue assembling.
Rainbow Dash was a mare on a mission, the brazen pony aggressively forcing dog after dog down her throat. After her first platter, she had worked her speed up to one every five or ten seconds, causing the poor drake to scramble in order to keep up with her ravenous conviction. Bite after bite, swallow after swallow, she refused to let up, if anything actually going faster as she progressed.
As she continued eating, her stomach began to bloat from the huge quantities of bolus entering it. Very slowly, it pushed outwards, displacing the many layers of fat that had built up around her middle. Eventually, the expanding organ grew big enough to starting lifting her even further from the ground, her belly rounding out as it filled.
By the time she had reduced the piles by half, the ravenous pegasus had eaten hundreds of haydogs. Her stomach continued to stretch, finally lifting her hooves off the floor completely, effectively immobilizing her on the spot. The blubber on her torso likewise stretched across her growing abdomen, allowing the firmness of her rock-hard stomach to overshadow the softness of her flesh until the skin of her belly was tight as a drum.
As her gut inflated, the small shelf of fat on her sternum that she had been using as a table began to disappear. It spread out across an ever increasing area until it was pulled as tight as her belly, causing the platter to slide down her chest and clatter to a stop on the carpeted floor. This meant that it was now up to Spike to both put together the dogs, and to feed them to her.
The going was slower with the dragon fulfilling both responsibilities, a fact that the humongous mare made sure he was aware of. But even still, the mountain of food that had once seemed impossible to put away continued to decrease at an incredible rate.
Spike grabbed another haydog, bringing it up so as to touch the tip of Rainbow’s muzzle. After just a moment, the morsel disappeared, snapped up by the greedy mare before joining its nearly one thousand brethren deep within the pit of her stomach. Yet another one was presented, and yet again she opened her muzzle to accept it. Her chewing had slowed significantly, only able to swallow two or three a minute now.
After assembling the next tray, the dragon turned around to find the prismatic mare’s head slumped over, her snout buried into the soft chub still hanging from her chest. Smiling, he carefully walked over to her, carrying the tray in one clawed hand while the other cupped her cheek, forcing her to raise her head and look towards him.
“Rainbow,” he said softly, “Come on, dude, you’re almost done.” Well, she still had about fifty or so to go, but compared to what she had started with, it was close enough for him.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, their gaze unfocused and glassy. “Sp...Spi-hic?”
“That’s right Dash. Come on, you’re so close,” he coaxed as he let go of her cheek, raising a dog and wafting it towards her nose. As the smell drifted up her nostrils, she grimaced, a weak groan escaping her as her insides tightened. Rainbow’s belly gurgled angrily, the beleaguered organ screaming at her brain to cease.
With a strained expression, the stuffed mare took a deep breath. Even the inflation of her lungs hurt, the necessary space they had once occupied now filled by her tortured stomach. In resolute defiance, she opened her mouth, allowing Spike to insert the haydog. Upon swallowing, her stomach creaked forebodingly, sounding nearly like an overfull balloon dangerously close to popping. And judging by the horrendous stinging and throbbing coming from her abdomen, popping was a real possibility.
Her belly was immense, its swollen form now nearly as large as the entirety of Fluttershy. Her skin had been drawn as tight as a drum as it expanded, its surface now red and inflamed, white stretch marks running horizontally along its length. The solid mass had raised her up so that her face was now upper chest-level with Spike, almost twice as high as she had been on her hooves.
Speaking of hooves, the four appendages dangled uselessly down the sides of her over taxed gut, completely unable to manipulate anything from their positions. Her couch sized ass sagged downwards, sloshing gently with each vibration emanating from her midsection.
As the last of the haydogs made their way down her esophagus, Rainbow’s stomach expanded just a little bit bigger, creaking and groaning all the way. Miraculously, the tough organ, tempered from its previous challenges (though none were ever as extreme as this), held together valiantly, withholding the enormous mare’s demise for another day.
Spike ran his claws along the incredible swell of her belly, giving a couple firm pats that reverberated through its dense bulk, eliciting another cacophony of angry rumbles that grew in volume and intensity until reaching its apex.
“BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP,” the violent expulsion of gas burst from the mare’s mouth, her fat, round face rippling from the shear force of the belch. Exhausted, Rainbow again let her head droop into her chest fluff along with a soft moan of content.
Wading through the discarded wrappers and bags littering the floor, Spike made his way back into the kitchen, placing the trays onto the counter before grabbing a clawfull of garbage bags as well as a napkin. Returning to the now fast asleep pony, he quickly cleaned up her greasy lips, tossing the used paper cloth into one of the bags along with the rest of the refuse. As he cleaned, the dragon chuckled to himself, eyeing the bloated mound of pony as a thought came to him. Momentarily dropping the bag, he walked back over and gave another round of pats to her taut hide
“Well Dash,” he said more to himself than the sleeping lump, “I hope you enjoyed this, ‘cause you’ll probably never be moving by yourself again.”
The reality of another immobile mare to take care of was certainly daunting to the young drake, as that meant Rainbow would be needing much more attention than she had previously. But he was definitely not complaining. In fact, if his experience thus far was anything to go by, he imagined he’d quite like what was to come between the two of them.
