ENN Special: Starlight's Address to the Nation: National Security, Part 2 (S3 E20)

"Good evening Equestria, this is Hard News and tonight's programing will not take place because Goddess-Queen Starlight Glimmer will be addressing the nation. While most are unsure as to what she will be discussing, we have reason to believe that it involves multiple issues.

One thing we believe that she may discuss is the fallout that happened between her and her sister, Goddess-Queen Twilight Sparkle. From what we understand, Goddess-Queen Twilight has relocated to the Castle of the Two Sisters and has apparently taken her harem with her. She has abandoned all of her duties and right now, Goddess-Queen Starlight is handling all the executives roles. She has begun to do away with many things that under the rule of Celestia, were a given.

We have also received inside information that she will be bringing up issues such as national security and ways that she could prevent attacks from outsiders such as the Storm King and prevent villains from within from causing too many problems. It is well known that Starlight believes that mere guard ponies are not enough to handle.....ok everypony, the Goddess-Queen is about to speak."

To My Fellow Equestrians,

Good evening to you all. As everypony knows, I am Goddess-Queen Starlight Glimmer and I come to you tonight to inform all of you on changes here in the capitol and changes that I will be making on a national scale, things that will improve life in all aspects of life here in Equestria.

As most everypony knows, my sister and I had a magic battle here in Canterlot after she attacked one of my daughters and because of that, we grew apart and grew to hate one another. Ultimately however she grew to where she no longer wanted to partake in any royal duties, whether they were important ones such as raising and lowering the moon or more menial ones, such as making sure the silverware is set up properly for state dinners.

Because of all of this, she and her harem have relocated to the Castle of the Two Sisters in the Everfree Forest and has abandoned all of her royal duties. At this moment I am in charge of everything since she has basically abdicated the throne. With that being the case, I feel as though I can make the proper decisions for this country without any problems arising from a sister who does not share my visions for a better Equestria.

I am going to let the nation in on something, after our falling out, my sister was making plans on forcing ponies to have to change seasons the old fashioned way again simply to spite the hardworking ponies of this nation. She believed that the costly ways of old should be restored, ways which would include bankrupting the country with paying a large sum of money to weather ponies, including their pensions which was really hurting us.

With me being the lone sister handling royal duties right now, I can guarantee you that such things will never happen. Do not worry everypony, never again will anypony have to worry about changing seasons the old fashioned way. Even if she were to come back and resume her duties of making sure the silverware is set right for state dinners, she still couldn't force it. It took both of us to cast the spell to do away with the old fashioned ways and it would take both of us to undo what we did, so like I said, those days will never return.

Now for a matter that is of great importance to me. Throughout the history of Equestria and especially during the final years of my mother's reign, we had many, many villains cause problems here in Equestria. We had villains from within, villains such as Tirek, Chrysalis, Discord, King Sombra and Cozy Glow to name a few. We also had the attack from an outsider, the Storm King. Such things caused a great amount of strife in parts of Equestria, particularly here in the Capitol.

All of this has caused me to come to the conclusion that having mere guard ponies here in Canterlot is no longer acceptable nor will I tolerate it. Because of the surpluses the country has been running thanks to my defunding of public festivals and the restoration of normal weather patterns, I have come to the conclusion that an actual military will be established.

Service in the military will be voluntary although if we were to get involved in a war with a foreign nation, a draft will be instituted and ponies, both mares and stallions, will be drafted based off of the last five digits of their Equestrian ID number. Ponies with disabilities, both physical and psychological, will be exempted from any kind of draft.

Regarding how this will work, earth ponies who choose to join will be sent to work in military farms to grow food for the military since they are the ones with the knack for those sorts of things. Pegasi will be our scouts, they will be the ones to fly out along the borders of Equestria and beyond. If they spot anything troublesome, they will report said activities to me.

Unicorns however, they will be our warriors since they are the ones with magic. Unicorns who choose to join or are drafted will go to a boot camp to build up mental toughness, strengthen their magic and learn the proper combat magic needed to strike down all foes, both foreign and domestic.

I also am creating a military academy here in Canterlot for Unicorns so that we can turn the brightest and most talented Unicorns into officers. Officers will be needed and given that I know combat magic, including flight magic, I will be creating the material that will be taught to those who wish to become officers. I should have the academy up and ready to go by the end of the month, as will be the case with the boot camps and bases that will be necessary to create a standing military, a military that will hopefully allow us to defeat all foes, both foreign and domestic before they can cause Equestria any problems.

While this was not the case in the past, I have decided that students from abroad will be vetted prior to attending any kind of institution here in Equestria. Whether it be Hoofvard University or the school of friendship, all will be vetted to make sure that they do not have any ties or show any sympathy to those who have been deemed as enemies of Equestria. Also, all shall take a loyalty oath to Equestria, an oath that will require them to recognize ME as their leader and that they will follow and obey all laws within Equestria, along with any local laws in the community where the institution is located.

I have also decided to require passports for everypony who enters the country, whether they be somepony from abroad or they be an Equestrian who is traveling abroad. For re-entry into the country, a passport will be required. Also, any and all travel to areas that are experiencing problems that could cause a traveler to bring the problem back to Equestria will be forbidden. This will primarily apply to virus hot spots given the problems we had with a couple of ponies traveling abroad and bringing the virus home with them in the past. Other issues could also cause a temporary halt to travel to certain areas as well, things such as civil unrest or the preaching of ideologies that contradict our own for example.

When it comes to immigration, I believe that not only should immigration be restricted to individuals from certain nations, I also believe that a certain limit is necessary. What that number is right now I'm not sure but I do not believe it should be too high because if you bring in too many outsiders, it will ultimately lead to the destruction of our culture here in Equestria. Hey I have nothing against creatures with other cultures, I simply don't think they should be allowed to come into our nation in sufficient numbers that they could change ours.

Also when it comes to immigration, immigrants shall not have access to any of the social programs of Equestria for a time period of ten years from the time they gained their citizenship or fifteen years after they arrived, whichever time period is longer. Those programs were created long ago by my mother for citizens of Equestria, not outsiders and while I do believe immigrants should eventually be able to access them, it should not be until they have contributed to this nation sufficiently.

I have also decided that effective immediately, that no more currency will be created with my sister's image on it. She has basically abdicated the throne and has turned her back on all of you, the citizens of Equestria. She has put petty issues over the split in our workload and her displeasure of me doing certain things that were part of her job that caused her to do so. Therefore, I, Goddess-Queen Starlight Glimmer hereby decree that I am the sole ruler of Equestria. I do all the work, I handle all the duties and I am taking on a whole lot more while all Twilight does is have fun with her harem out at the Castle of the Two Sisters, a harem that includes Flurry Heart, Cadence, Twilight Velvet and the former mayor of Ponyville.

My sister, Twilight Sparkle, does not stand for the values that have held this nation together for well over a thousand years and thus, should not be recognized as a leader. Also, any currency bearing her image will become worthless six months from today so if you have currency with her image on it, take it to a federal credit union so that it may be destroyed and exchanged for currency without the image of a pony who stabbed all of you in the back on it.

One thing I can promise all of you, Equestria's future is much brighter now that I'm the only one calling the shots. We will have a standing military, I will have my ways of knowing about our threats ahead of time. Also no longer will outsiders simply be let in unchecked nor will there be so many outsiders moving here that our culture will vanish....which was something that Twilight really didn't care about. After our falling out, everything I supported she began to oppose. Again everypony, things are going to be much better....goodnight.

And there you have it Equestria. Our Goddess-Queen has laid forth the plans she has and I for one, along with the rest of us here at ENN support her entirely. We know that she has Equestria's best interests in mind and cares about each and every one of us deeply.
