Every Journey Begins With A Single Step
Where Do We Go?
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Are you sure Twi?" Asked a voice.
"I am. Sunset even told me that she doesn't know who he is. He wasn't from her world." Said another voice.
Spike groaned at the sound of people talking. "I think he's waking up." Said the second voice.
"He is." Cheered the first voice.
Spike slowly opened his eyes, his head was killing him and his vision was blurred. "Where am I?" Asked Spike. He tried to sit up and look around, but he was pushed back down.
"Hold your horses Sugar Cube, you've been out for a while." Said a third voice.
Spike groaned. "How long?" Asked Spike.
"Twenty Years." Said the fourth voice.
"Rainbow, stop that." Said the fifth voice.
"Sorry, couldn't help it." Said the fourth voice. "You've only been out a few hours, from what Shy told us."
Spike sighed as he tried to rub his eyes. But he was stopped by something white and purple looking over him. "Here, allow me." Said the owner of the fifth voice. She pulled out a rag and wiped Spike's eyes. "There."
Spike opened his eyes and his vision was no longer blurry. Spike smiled at being alive and able to see again. "Thanks. I thought I was going to die out there." Spike laughed. "I even dreamt that I lost both an arm and leg and I was found by a cute yellow girl with pink hair and wings."
"That wasn't a dream, I'm right here." Said the girl as she walked over to Spike and looked down at him. "My name Fluttershy, it's nice to meet you."
Spike looked at Fluttershy and he went limp like a noodle. "Ok, I'm still dreaming, good night." Said Spike as he closed his eyes to go back to dying.
The owner of the fourth voice sighed as she walked over and pinched Spike's cheek. "Hey, you're not getting off that easy, I want some answers."
Spike pulled back as he sat up. "Hey, that hurt." Said Spike. "Wait, why did that hurt?" He looked at his attacker and dropped his jaw at the sight of the occupants of the room. Standing in front of him and still pinching his cheek was a light blue colored girl with a head full of multi-colored hair and a pair of blue wings on her back, her eyes were magenta, and staring at Spike. Spike looked at the white figure that wiped his eyes. She was a pure white girl with a head of royal purple hair done up in curls, but unlike the blue girl, she had a horn coming out of her head, she looked at Spike with her azure eyes, worried about him.
The owner of the third voice sighed and walked over to the blue girl, she pulled her off of Spike and dragged her away. But Spike still saw her, she was a tall orange-colored girl with a pair of emerald green eyes like his, but he only caught a glimpse of them from under her Stetson and her long blond hair. "Rainbow, what did we tell you about not making it worse?"
The blue girl now identified to be Rainbow just rolled her eyes. "Sorry about her." Said The second voice. Spike looked in the direction of the voice and noticed a purple girl, with lavender hair that had a dark purple and dark pink stripe in it. She walked over to Spike and looked at him with her lavender eyes. Spike saw that she had both a horn and wings. Spike started to panic. 'This is clearly some sort of hallucination, there is no way any of this is real.' The purple girl placed her hand on Spike's shoulder. "Calm down, and listen to me. My name is Twilight Sparkle, you already know Fluttershy, the one that pinched you is named Rainbow Dash and she better be sorry for what she did. This is Rarity." Said Twilight as she motioned to Rarity.
"Hello." Said Rarity.
"And the one that removed Rainbow from you is Applejack, but just call her AJ. We have another friend named Pinkie Pie, but we had to tie her up, so she didn't do anything that could have worsened your condition. Is there anything you would like to ask us?"
Spike nodded. "Where am I?" Asked Spike.
Fluttershy walked over to Spike. "You in my home at the edge of Ponyville, I'm the one who found you in the woods."
Spike nodded. "Ok, what are you, girls?"
Twilight nodded. "We're ponies, but to be more specific, AJ and Pinkie are earth ponies, Rarity is a unicorn, Rainbow and Fluttershy are both pegasi, and I am an alicorn. And from what I can tell, you are some sort of human, right?"
Spike nodded. "That's right, my name Spike, Spike Draco."
Twilight smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Spike. Do you remember anything about how you got here?"
Spike shook his head. "No, I just woke up here, missing my arm and leg." Spike looked down at his right arm and leg, they were still missing. "And they still are apparently." Spike sighed as he slumped down.
Twilight sighed. "Hey, I might know someone that can help, but do you have some sort of identification on you?" Asked Twilight.
Spike shot up as he reached for his back pocket, he never left anywhere without his wallet. He pulled out a small tri-fold wallet and looked around for his driver's license. He smiled when he pulled it out. "Thank you for the wallet, Aunt Luna." Said Spike.
"LUNA?!" Yelled Twilight in shock.
Spike nodded as he smiled at his drivers' license. "Yep, my aunt, Luna Solaris, gave me this wallet when I started college." He handed the card over to Twilight hoping that she can help him get home.
But Twilight shook her head. "No need, Sunset won't be any help." She looked at Spike. "Spike, who is your mother?"
"Celestia Solaris, CEO of Canterlot Corp. Why?"
Twilight sighed as she looked at Spike. She looked at Fluttershy. "Fluttershy get Discord here now."
"My Dad's here?" Asked Spike surprised.
Twilight looked frantic. "Get him here now!" Yelled Twilight.
Three seconds later, Discord popped into the room and looked at the group. Twilight was glaring at him, Fluttershy was glaring at him, Spike was confused at him. He looked at Spike and gulped. "What are you doing here Spike, why aren't you in Paris?" He looked at Spike's missing arm and leg. "And what the hell happened to your arm and leg, does your mother know about this?" Asked Discord.
"What the hell are you doing here Dad, I thought you were working in Japan for the month, and why do you look like that?" Asked Spike.
Discord sighed as he looked at Spike. "Spike, I know you probably won't believe this, but I'm not your dad, but I am."
Spike glared at him. "Your right I don't believe you."
Discord groaned as he pulled a large book out of nowhere. "Spike, long ago, ancient powers were creating the universe, I was one of four beings that were formed. But unlike my brother and sisters, I was uncontrollable, so the powers split me up from what I once was, and scattered me throughout all creation. Each universe will always have a Discord in it, for all of the time, but we all carry a special link between us, we share all of our memories and emotions, but we still are our separate beings." Discord opened the book and handed it to Spike. "Each of us who have magical powers can gather these memories." Discord pointed to a photo of a younger Spike laying in a hospital bed with a tall woman with three colored hair and a shorter woman with dark blue hair, all three of them were asleep. "Do you remember that day?" Asked Discord.
Spike nodded. "Yeah, kinda, that was the day I had to get my tonsils out, Mom and Aunt Luna went crazy trying to make sure that I was calm for the procedure, so they spent the night at the hospital with me. You woke us up when you took this picture."
Discord nodded. "That's right, I was also there when you were born when grandma Lilith and grandpa Cosmo died when you graduated from Highschool, and I helped you tie your tie when you went on your first date with that girl, Ember your senior year. How is that going by the way? I don't have much knowledge about it past that summer."
Spike sighed. "We got into different colleges and decided to try long-distance, it didn't last more than 2 months. I never told you or mom about it."
Discord sighed. "Sorry to hear that Spike."
Spike shrugged. "It's fine, we were happy for as long as we were, and I'm glad to of had that time with her."
Discord looked at Spike. "So, do you want the good news or the bad news?" Asked Discord.
Spike sighed. "Let's rip the bandage off now."
Discord chuckled. "That was always your response when given the choice. The bad news is you stuck here for a while."
Spike groaned as he tried to place his face into his hands, but it only worked half as well. "How long?"
"A year or so. Gathering so much magical power to cross realities takes a long time."
Spike sighed. "And my arm and leg?" Asked Spike.
"I can't put them back if that's what you're asking, they're long gone, but I can help you with them later, but not until tomorrow."
Spike nodded. "At least I'll be able to walk again." He looked at Discord. "What's the good news Dad?"
Discord Smiled. "Your mother and Aunt also have memories of different worlds."
Spike smiled. "So they'll know who I am?"
Discord nodded. "Yep, the moment you were born, a node was born as well, that link you to all the Celestia's. And since Luna shares a connection with her sister, she shares one with you as well."
Spike smiled. "So, instead of traveling the world, I got transported to a different universe, missing an arm and leg, and my father is an ancient being that has infinite copies of himself?" Asked Spike.
Discord nodded. "Yep, that pretty much sums it up."
Spike sighed. "You know this is all crazy, right?" Asked Spike.
Discord laughed as he nodded. "Son, I'm the embodiment of chaos, it comes with the job, at least your not meeting your aunt Death, she would be having a field day right now. But your uncle's Life is always working and works in mysterious ways. But don't get me started on Harmony, she was always their favorite, and treated me like a child, its not my fault that I was created one ten-billionth of a second after her." Discord sighed. "Sorry, we don't get along much since I was split up."
Spike wrapped his sorta dad into a half hug. Spike's dad was once part of a big family, but after something happened, Discord left to start a new life. He never talked about it with Spike so he didn't know much more than that. "So, how do you and mom get along here?" asked Spike.
Discord pretended not to listen to the question. "How about I take you to your mother's?" Asked Discord.
Spike sighed. "It couldn't be any worst than what you did back home, I mean, it can't be any worst than the time you almost destroyed Aunt Chrysalis's wedding reception, you got tackled by the bride and nearly ate the bouquet." Aunt Chrysalis was Celestia's best friend and roommate in college. So she was always around and Spike saw her as an aunt.
Discord shivered. "You promised to never talk about that again."
Spike laughed. "I was eight, my attention span was shorter than Aunt Luna's fuse when she is gaming."
Discord chuckled. "I nearly destroyed this world." Said Discord.
Spike looked at Discord shocked. "Magical world, magical being, magical levels of destruction. I still have a stiff neck from my thousand-year prison stent."
Spike sighed. "You know what, I'm going to be stuck here for a year, I'll question that statement later. Let's go see mom."
Discord nodded as he snapped his fingers, teleporting Spike and himself to Celestia, leaving Twilight and the others in Fluttershy's home.
Pinkie Pie, a short and plump, pink-colored girl with wild pink puffy hair, spat out her gag and looked upset. "Hey, why didn't I get any lines up until now?"
All the girls not tied up looked at Pinkie questioningly. "Um... Pinkie, who are you talking to?" Asked Twilight.
Pinkie sighed. "It doesn't matter, I need to get ready for Spike's welcome to Ponyville party." Said Pinkie as she started moving like a caterpillar, leaving the cottage to prepare.
When Spike and Discord appeared again, Discord was pushing a wheelchair-bound Spike down a long hallway. Spike looked around at the decorations. "Um... Dad, does mom have the same decoration style here, this place looks just like the lobby at the office building." Asked Spike.
Discord nodded. "Some things are just hard-wired, no matter the reality." Discord looked down at Spike. "Also Spike, a little heads up, in this universe I and your mother are not married, we were close, but then I went to the dark side and kinda screwed it up. We're on peaceful terms, but it's a slow process."
Spike nodded. "Ok, so what does mom do here, is she still the CEO of a company?" Asked Spike.
Discord chuckled. "Kinda, but she has a little more sway than she does back home."
Discord stopped right in front of a pair of large golden doors. He knocked on the door and waited for it to be opened. It didn't take long for them to be surrounded by a gold aura. Discord smiled as he pushed Spike into the room.
Spike looked at the being sitting on the throne, she was easily seven feet tall, she had a long white horn resting on her snow-white body along with a pair of white wings. But the smile she had, and the caring look in her eyes were classic Celestia. She looked at a group of ponies standing all around the room. "Guards leave us, please?" Asked Celestia.
The room was empty a few moments later, Spike was shocked, his mother had a few security guards in the office, but never three dozen.
Celestia sighed as she stood up from her throne and slowly made her way to Discord and Spike. When she was close enough, Celestia bent down and looked at Spike, giving him her happiest smile. "Hi, baby." Said Celestia as she gave Spike a loving hug.
Spike chuckled. "Hey, mom." Said Spike as he gave her the best hug he could. "Sorry I never called you or dad when I got into Paris, but I got a great excuse."
Celestia smiled as she released the hug, that's when she first noticed that Spike was missing a few parts. "SPIKE! Where is your arm?" Asked Celestia in shock.
Discord and Spike sighed. Spike's Celestia was powerful, smart, kind, and a great cook, but she was also known for overreacting like no other. Discord grabbed Celestia's arms. "Celestia, stop shaking Spike, it looks like he lost them when he was transported."
"THEM?!" She looked at Spike and she started to cry when she saw the state of her child.
Spike sighed, he never liked to see his mother cry, it made him feel useless. But thankfully he always had a way to make Celestia smile. "Hey mom, guess what I found?" Asked Spike.
Celestia kept crying but she looked at Spike. She wiped her eyes and nose. "What?"
Spike smiled. "Nothing, just the best mom ever."
Celestia smiled as she wrapped Spike into another hug. "Hey Spike, guess what I found?" Asked Celestia.
Spike smiled. "What?" Asked Spike.
Celestia giggled. "Nothing, I just wanted to show you some love, but I couldn't fit it in the door."
Spike smiled. "You look gross when you cry you know?"
"Shut up, or you're going to see the tickle monster tonight." She pulled back from the hug and wiped her eyes again. "Thanks, Spike."
Spike smiled at his mother, but he noticed some people were missing, he looked around. "So where's Aunt Luna and cousin Cadance, last I heard from them, they were taking a mother-daughter vacation to Brazil along with Cadance's new fiancé." Asked Spike.
Discord sighed as he snapped his fingers and teleported Cadance, her husband, their baby, and her mother to the throne room.
Luna was the same as she was back in Spike's world, shorter than her sister, dark blue hair, and a controller in her hands, but she was now sporting a pair of dark blue wings and a horn. Next to her was her daughter, Cadance, with a pair of pink wings and a horn, but she was also holding a little infant in her arms, and next to her was a tall man with white skin and a long white horn and blue hair.
Luna looked at Discord and glared at him. "Discord, I was about to hit a new high score, why did you teleport me?" Asked Luna.
"Yes, we were in the middle of an important budget meeting for the empire's trade routes. Now we're going to have to reschedule it." Said Cadance.
Discord sighed. "Look, it's not my fault this time, but somehow Spike got teleported into this universe and is stuck here for a year or so. He's missing an arm and leg. I just thought that he would like to see some familiar faces."
Luna sighed. "Which universe, my link to the others aren't as strong as yours or Celestia's?" Asked Luna.
"Well, I'm their son, you're my aunt, Cadance doesn't have a kid." Spike looked at Cadance. "She's adorable by the way, and I have no idea who the guy is."
Luna sighed. "Ok, sorry Spike, it's a jumble of memories, and they're not always so clear." Luna looked at Cadance. "And you young lady, I could hear everything last night, I know you too are engaged but at least be quiet and stop moaning, I do not want to hear my daughter at night."
Cadence blushed. "Sorry mom, wait, why am I apologizing, that wasn't me."
Discord laughed. "It was and it wasn't, I know you and that world's Cadance are linked, but compared to me, Celestia, and Luna your connection is very weak. I doubt that Flurry Heart will even be able to see the connections. But if you would kindly look at your cousin, you will notice that he is missing an arm and leg."
Cadence and Luna both looked at Spike and finally noticed that he was missing his arm and leg. "WHAT HAPPENED?" Yelled both Cadance and Luna.
Spike sighed. "Long story short, I have no clue, I only know about my world, nothing about this one. I woke up in a forest missing my arm and leg, and I stopped mom from crying a river. Dad popped you two in and that's about it. Oh, and I met some girls about 20 minutes ago."
Luna took a deep breath. She walked over to Spike and pulled him into a hug. Cadance did the same. Spike smiled as he returned the hug. "Thanks, guys."
They pulled back and looked at Spike. "So, what are we going to do about this whole missing arm and leg thing?" Asked Luna.
Discord smiled. "I'll take care of it, don't worry, Lulu."
Spike smiled. "Well, as much as I'm glad to see you guys and finding out that I wasn't actually kidnapped in France, I gotta know, where the hell am I?" Asked Spike.
Celestia smiled. "Oh right, sorry Spike. You in Equestria, ruled by the four princesses of the kingdom. The princess of the sun, Me. The princess of the night, Luna. The princess of Love, Cadance. And the newest ruling princess, the princess of friendship, Twilight Sparkle."
Spike nodded. "Ok. So my father is a magical chaos being. My mother, aunt, and cousin are all princesses in another world, instead of the CEO, COO, and CFO of a multi-billion dollar company, and I just met the last girl when I woke up."
Discord nodded. "Yep, and your adopted." Said Discord.
Celestia glared at him. "Discord, you and I both know that he is not, I broke your hand when I was delivering him, or she did with him. Just, look he is Spike, he is our son, and if you ever tell him he was adopted again, your going back in your stone statue."
Spike laughed. "Mom, it's fine, dad would always tell me that joke when I was thinking too much. It didn't stop you from kicking him in the balls the first time you heard it, but it's just how we are. Plus I've seen my baby photo album, dad was getting his hand taped up, you were holding me right after I was born and Luna was trying to stop Cadance from getting too close. But it's been a day and I think I'm going to try and sleep, if this is a dream, I can say it was a nice one, but if not, I'll see one of you in the morning." Said Spike as he tried to get out of the wheelchair and walk to his room in the penthouse suite. But that didn't happen, instead, he took one step and fell on his face. This made Celestia, Luna, Cadance, and Discord laugh. "If anyone brings up the time I broke my leg, I will get mad."
Celestia smiled as she used her magic to pick Spike off the ground. "It's fine Sweetie, I'll put you in my bed for the night, day court is just about over anyway. It'll be just like the time you got your tonsils out."
Spike shrugged, he really didn't have any better options, it's not like he could walk away, much less find his way back to Fluttershy's and ask to bum on her couch. "Ok, mom." Said Spike.
Once Spike and Celestia left the room, both Cadance and Luna glared at Discord. Luna walked over to Discord and grabbed his face. "You and I both know why we all have a connection to that Spike, but if you ruin this for her, I will kill you." Threatened Luna.
Discord sighed. "Hey, he was my son too you know, I wanted to see him just as much as she did. I just wasn't ready for the loss to hit me as bad as it did."
Luna released Discord. "She was devastated when she found out about Spike, then you go and almost destroy the world in grief, you left us no choice but to stop you and she lost the man she loved as well. So I'm making you a deal, you make this year she has with the son she never got to raise, the best of her life or I make sure that we never see you again, and we hope that we forget this Spike ever existed. I am not letting my sister go through this heartache again." Said Luna as she stormed out of the throne room.
Discord sighed. "Trust me, I don't want that either." Said Discord.
"Discord, just try and make things right with Celestia. She had to suffer many years seeing other Spikes with other Celestia's, and other lives that she missed out on having with the two of you with her. It took its toll on her. I know we all suffered when she lost him, but she lost the most. But maybe your brother is giving you two another chance." Said Cadance as she used her magic to teleport her and her family back to their home.
Discord sighed. "If you are doing this Life, why does it feel like Death?" Asked Discord as he teleported to his home to start working on Spike's new leg and arm. "Thankfully I know a perfect starting point."
Author's Note
Yeah, this one got heavy at the end. Just to clarify some stuff, Spike is the biological son of both Celestia and Discord in his world, Discord has infinate copies in the mulitverse, each one get a discord, some are humans, some are magical, all have a conection to each other.
This universe has Discord and Celestia before he went nuts, having a son named Spike, but she had a miscarage, and it threw Discord into his crazyness. But in that time Discord, Celestia and Luna along with Cadance are able ot view memories of all Spikes that have come from both of them in the multieverse. But Spike does not have this ability.
So the title of the story has two meanings, a journey back home, and a journey to reconsiling and moving on from a loss.
