Mother's Day is approaching soon. I have GOT to do something nice for mom. Though perhaps, I should focus on Chrystalis and her mother. That changeling princess has been coming up with something; anything; to reform her mother. From what I've heard, at this point, all hope should be lost.
But Chrystalis has not given up on her own hope. I pray that her hope is not misplaced. She's out playing in the Everfree forest with Amelia.
Everfree Forest - Deep Woods
Chrysalis put a picture of her daughter alongside the piece of her that she got. "The last time I tried this, it ended in disaster..." Chrysalis said. "But this time...I think I've perfected the technique; soon I'll have my proper daughter." She added before using her magic to change the tree into an evil version of Chrystalis. "Welcome to the world, Mean Chrystalis." Chrysalis said.
"Whatever." Mean Chrystalis said. Chrysalis frowned.
"Don't you take that tone with me, young lady!" Chrysalis said. Chrystalis turned away and gave an unseen smirk.
"Your right...I shouldn't take that tone with you..." Mean Chrystalis said before spinning around and facing her creator. "...BECAUSE I SHOULD BE DESTROYING YOU!" Mean Chrystalis said, before beginning to charge a spell.
"WHAT?!" Chrysalis was shocked and confused now.
Everfree Forest - Chrytsalis's Clearing
As Chrystalis and Amelia were playing with the forest animals, Chrystalis paused and brought a hoof up into the air. "...Hold up, Amelia." She said. "This magic..." She said before going wide eyed. "Mom's in trouble!" Chrystalis said before rushing towards where she could sense the magic coming from.
"Chrystalis wait..." Amelia said. "Are you sure you should do this?" She asked.
"If I save my mother from the threat that threatens her life, maybe I can show her what this form really is about." Chyrstalis said. Amelia went wide eyed, realizing what Chrystalis was planning.
"I'm coming with you..." Amelia said.
Everfree Forest - Deep Woods
"Why...why you..." Chrysalis was so confused. "Why are you turning on me?" She asked.
"Because you no longer deserve to rule the changelings; that honor belongs to me!" Mean Chrystalis said. Chrysalis gulped. She suddenly realized just how precise her spell really was. It went all out on making the evil clones evil...to the point where they would be willing to do anything to succeed in their own agendas. And given how powerful her own daughter was, without the tree of Harmony, Chrysalis was a good as dead this time...
Or so she thought.
"Mother!" Chrystalis's voice said before she came in front of her mother in a defensive stance.
"Ch-chrystalis? But..." Chrysalis said, confused.
"We'll talk later." Chrystalis said as Amelia joined them.
"She did that clone spell again..." Amelia said.
"I can see that, Amelia." Chrstyalis said. "Hey clone face, how about you pick on someone your own size?!" Chrystalis said to her clone. The two did battle, blasts going back and forth, and reducing a few of the nearby trees to mere splinters. It seemed to be a close match-up. "No...I won't lose...not while my mother is here." Chrystalis said before suddenly gaining a power boost and turning the tide in her favor.
"What...is this power...where is it coming from?!" Mean Chrystalis exclaimed.
"From the most important thing of all...FAMILY LOVE!" Chrystalis shouted before dealing the final blow, turning her clone into a single black tree branch. The battle was over, and the good Chrystalis was the victor.
"I don't understand...after everything I said...everything I did...why? Why did you save me?" Chrysalis said, wanting explanation. Chrystalis approached her mother.
"Because your my mother." Chrystalis said. "And your my family. I meant what I told my evil clone: My power doesn't come from selfishness, it comes from protecting what matters the most to me and all other changelings: Our family." She added before nuzzling her mother's leg. "This form was never about friendship...it was about sharing love freely with our family and friends alike. But mostly with our family." Chrystalis said before sharing a bit of love with her mother. "You can still be the figure the changelings need mother, and you don't have to change who you are." Chrystalis said. "Despite my appearance, I'm still your daughter; the same one you caught playing with the animals." She added. "Just because my appearance has changed, doesn't mean my personality has changed as well." Chrystalis finished.
"I...understand now..." Chrysalis said before hugging her daughter and began crying. "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry for everything...I hope you and all the other changelings can forgive me..." Chrysalis said.
"We already do, mother Chrysalis." Chrystalis said, smiling. Suddenly, a bright glow engulfed Chrysalis, causing the changeling princess to back away from her mother. Chrysalis was wrapped into a glowing cocoon before eventually being set free, now white and with turquoise wings.
"Wh-what just happened?" Chrysalis asked.
"Here...have a look." Amelia said before summoning a mirror, showing Chrysalis's new form.
"Whoa...I look...so different...and beautiful..." Chrysalis said.
"But do you feel any different?" Chrystalis asked.
"No...no I don't..." Chrysalis said. "It seems I was wrong from the start..." She added. Chrysalis hugged her daughter. "Thank you for showing me the truth, my daughter..." She said. Chrystalis smiled.
"So what are you going to do now?" Chrystalis said. "We can't go to the badlands hive..." She said.
"We can live in Ponyville, until we find a new place to start a hive at." Chrysalis said. Chrystalis smiled and jumped for joy at that.
"Yay! Thank you so much mommy!" Chrystalis said in joy.
"Anything for my lovely daughter." Chrysalis said.
That day, mother and daughter were reunited.
Author's Note
Don't worry, Cozy Glow has a catch-up chapter up next. As for Chrysalis, yeah, this was her reformation. Rather then try to have her accept friendship, I decided to take a different approach: Everything she did at the Canterlot wedding, she wanted to do for her subjects. In that regard, her initial plot was more of a case of "doing something evil for the greater good" where as the other times were done out of her own evil violations. So making her realize that the changelings would make better family then servants was the perfect way to reform her, but how to go about reforming someone who already refused it back in season 6? Admittedly, I initially struggled with this, then saw that next gen comic thing, and boom, inspiration struck!
