Chapter 54: Blind Trust

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

While Twilight, Sam and their friends were going on their adventures, solving friendship problems or defeating giant monsters, Sam’s siblings were back in Ponyville doing old jobs around the town. When they first came to Equestria and had settled down in their own little house, they all managed to get employed by Mayor Mare who gave them tasks to do. Where that’ll be making sure the town was clean, sorting out events, or helping build something, Scott, Kerry, Rebecca, Emily and Jake would be on the job.

Unfortunately, Scott was a bit of a perfectionist, and so would through a fit if something wasn’t done right. This led him to not trust his sisters whenever they’ll about to do something, he would think that they wouldn’t get the job done right or done at all. On this particular day, Emily was teaching Kerry and Rebecca how to make sculptures out of a couple of plants at the entrance of Ponyville.

“First, you envision the shape you want to make in your mind,” she told them as she trimmed her plant, “And then... voilà!”

“Woah, that's pretty cool, Emily,” Kerry remarked.

“Yeah, I think I get it now,” Rebecca stated, but just as the two were about to trim the leaves, Scott ran up and halted them.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Just stop it, both of you,” he ordered, taking Kerry's trimmer out her paws, “I don't trust you two to do this, it's way too important.” He then started to cut the leaves himself.

“Hey, we could've gotten it!” Kerry exclaimed.

“Uhh, I doubt it,” Scott replied, “It's the first thing ponies see when they come to Ponyville. I don't want you two mucking it up...” his voice trailed off for Emily as she watched in worry.

Later on, Rebecca and Kerry painted a shed with Emily peeking out the shed window watching them, as Scott walked up to them.

“Back up, back up, back up. Let me show you how it's done,” Scott told them, snatching the brush out of Kerry’s paw, “You have to be very precise when you're doing the trim. You guys are gonna make a mess of it, there's no way I'm letting you do this.” Emily watched this in concern for her sisters-in-law.

After that, Rebecca was holding a garbage bag above the bin, when Scott walked up to them once again, and took the bag away from her claws.

“Hey, hey, hey, give me that!” he shouted, “I can't trust you two with anything. You have to squeeze and release. Make sure the bag lands in the can.” Not far from them, Emily was hiding in some bushes, spying on them with a pair of binoculars, still carrying a worried expression on her face. She shook her head in disappointment, she could feel that their sibling care for each other was no more. She knew she had to do something.

So later that day, Emily took Kerry, Rebecca and Scott on a balloon ride to the top of the green mountains. The balloon lands and the four get out of the basket.

“Alright, Emily. What gives?” Scott asked her, “What are we all doing up here?”

“Yeah, what's the deal, Emily?” Rebecca questioned.

“I'll explain to you the deal,” Emily began, taking a deep breath, “Scott, I'm afraid you have a serious trust problem with Rebecca and Kerry.”

“Are you serious? You brought us all the way out here for this?!” Scott sighed, “Alright, fine. Kerry, Rebecca, I trust you. There, I said it. Is that good, can we leave now? Because I have a lot to do today, I have to finish taking inventory and...”

“Okay, okay. If you trust them, then you should have no problem performing a trust fall,” Emily told him.

“You've got to be kidding me...” Scott groaned.

“Simply fall back into Kerry and Rebecca's arms and we'll get back in the balloon and go home right now,” Emily explained as Kerry and Rebecca extended their arms out.

Scott turned his back, and crossed his arms, all the while pausing to look at Kerry and Rebecca with their arms extended and happy smiles on their faces. He sighed, and started to sweat, he looked back at them once more, only to end up getting angry.

“Alright, fine! I can't do it! I don't trust them to catch me! Do you hear me?! I DON'T TRUST THEM!” he screamed, he yelled so loud that his voice echoed across the mountain, causing them all to cover their ears.

“Well, that's what I thought,” Emily remarked, “so here's what we're gonna do, you're gonna be blindfolded and led down the mountain by Rebecca and Kerry through a series of trust-based obstacles.”

“Please tell me you're joking...” Scott said.

“Aww, sweet! Scott's totally gonna trust us after this!” Rebecca cried.

“Yeah he is,” Kerry replied, as the two high-fived each other.

“No way, I'm not doing it. This is crazy,” Scott said as Emily walked up to him and wrapped a blindfold around his eyes, “I can't trust my life in the hands of these two idiots!”

“Now make sure not to take your blindfold off until you reach the bottom of the mountain. You must let them lead you,” Emily told him, “Trust me, it'll be worth it.”

“Wait!” Scott called out as Emily got back into the balloon’s basket, “I can't even trust them to cut the grass!”

“It's all good, bro. We've got it,” Rebecca said.

“See you all at the bottom!” Emily called out as the balloon started to float away.

“Later, Pops!” cried Rebecca.

“See ya!” yelled Kerry as they both turned to face Scott, “Man, by the time we get you to the bottom of this mountain, you're totally gonna trust us.” Scott just groaned at this.

So Rebecca and Kerry took Scott to an area to help work on trust exercises, they were at a section called the ‘stump test’, where Rebecca and Kerry assisted Scott in walking on the tree stumps.

“You guys better not screw up,” he told them.

“Okay, step right,” Kerry told him, Scott listened and took a step to the right.

“Alright, last one,” Rebecca said, as she took a step back. But she wasn’t looking where she was going, and she walked backwards into a puddle of mud, she slipped and fell causing Scott to fall off the stump.

“Ugh...” Scott groaned, Kerry and Rebecca tried to help him up, but he refused, as he got up annoyed and took off his blindfold, “I knew I couldn't trust you!”

“Bro, you can't take off your blindfold!” Kerry called out to Scott.

“There's no way I'm walking around blind after that last test,” Scott shouted as he threw the blindfold at the ground.”

“It was just an accident, it won't happen again,” Rebecca told him.

“Sure it won't,” Scott doubted as he turned and started to walk away.

“Come on, Scott,” Kerry said, “Just put the blindfold back on and try again.”

“I'm better off on my own,” Scott replied.

“You're supposed to let us lead you,” Kerry responded passive aggressively.

“That's not gonna happen,” Scott answered, looking back at her, as he turned back around he smacked his face against a bees nest, breaking the hive in half and causing the bees to break free. The bees chased after Scott, as he ran around screaming, he eventually fell into a lake.

That night, Kerry and Rebecca sat on a tree trunk with Scott sitting across from them on his own tree trunk with a campfire in the middle of them.

“It's kind of funny that you took off your blindfold but weren't supposed to and then got blindfolded again anyways. By nature...” Kerry chuckled nervously, for you see Scott’s eyes were swollen shut from the bee stings, rendering him sightless. The bees had also stung his nose badly as well, so he couldn’t find his way by scent either, “Uhh, does your face feel better?”

“Can you see anything?” Rebecca asked as she waved her hand.

“No and no,” Scott sighed, “Can't believe I'm stuck on this mountain with you two.”

“You know, if you would've just given us a chance on these trust exercises we would've made it to the bottom of the mountain by now,” Kerry told him.

“I gave you a chance, and I fell,” Scott retorted.

“Yeah, but we caught you,” Rebecca replied.

“No you didn't! Falling on top of you doesn't count,” Scott replied.

“I think it does,” Rebecca claimed.

“No it doesn't!!” Shouted Scott, “Besides, I'm not going to put my life in the paws of two incompetent slackers.”

“We do our job as best as we can,” Kerry stated, “you’re the one that gets triggered if we do it a different way.”

“Yeah, it's not our fault you have trust issues,” Rebecca remarked.

“Oh, it's not? It's not your fault? That's funny, because I can think of a few times when it was your fault,” Scott commented. Remembering times that were indeed Kerry and Elena’s fault.

One was them trying to go through a rolling window of Rarity’s home while Rarity was having some lunch, but they ended up going through the window, breaking it and knocking into Rarity’s table. A second was letting Applejack’s lawnmower get loose and run into one of her apple trees causing her to explode. Another was when Fluttershy asked them to take care of one of her new fox pups, only for when the two had lunch, the fox pup accidentally escaped and went on a rampage. And finally when they helped Pinkie set up a swing on a tree, which happened to be right next to where Rainbow Dash was sunbathing, only for the tree to collapse due to their weight and land on Rainbow.

“So I should trust you? I should trust you?” Scott questioned them, only to get unsure groans from Kerry and Rebecca, “Yeah, I thought so. I've had enough sitting around, I'm going to find my own way down the mountain.” He then stood up from his trunk.

“Scott, you can't see anything!” Kerry called out to her brother, “Can't you at least wait till morning?”

“Maybe you can wait till morning, but inventory and bath orders can't,” Scott stated, as he walked off, waving his arms back and forth so as to avoid anything that might hit him.

“Scott, there's a branch,” Rebecca pointed out as Scott hits his face on the branch, “See, I told you!”

Scott yelled in anger as he ripped the branch off and started to use it to guide himself. “Just get me out of these woods,” he mumbled.

“We've gotta make sure he doesn't hurt himself,” Kerry said as she and Rebecca chased after Scott, “Shrub on your left.” She warned.

“Rock. Rock. Bigger rock,” Rebecca chimed in, not as helpful.

“Will you two just... huh?” Scott was surprised by what he might have hit with his stick.

“It’s a sign,” Kerry told him.

“Let’s see,” Scott said as he touched the sign, trying to read what it might say, “Oh, we're back on the main path.”

“Uh, Benson, this is definitely not the main path,” Kerry replied.

“It's gotta be, why else would they put a sign here?” Scott Questioned.

“But the sign says, ‘Keep Out: Sacred Hisui-Mon Burial Ground’,” Rebecca stated.

“Yeah, right, you're probably just getting a kick out of seeing me blindly wander around,” Scott replied as he continued on the path.

“Scott, wait up!” Rebecca called out as the two followed him.

The two follow Scott as they come across a cliff where multiple piles of stones were scattered across the ground with a bigger pile being on the very edge.

“This doesn't look right, Scott,” Kerry pointed out, “Let's turn back.”

“I know what I'm doing, unlike you two,” Scott replied as he accidentally knocked some of the rocks off two of the piles with the stick, suddenly the ground started to shake. Everyone was confused about what was happening, as smoke started to form from all the piles.

“What’s going on?” Rebecca squeaked in fear.

The smoke grew and spread across the whole cliff, until supernatural figures emerged from the smoke. The first one being a Typhlosion, the second a Samurott, the third an Decidueye, soon tones of Hisui-Mons emerged out of light yellow smoke.

“What's going on?!” cried Scott as the final ghost emerged from the larger pile, taking the form of a large Wyrdeer.

“Children of the living, you belong not in this realm,” It spoke in a deep voice.

“Oh, nice try Jake, I've heard you make that voice before,” Scott said.

“What? That's not Jake,” Kerry replied, “he’s back in Ponyville helping the construction team remember.”

“You tread on sacred ground,” The Wyrdeer told them, “Turn back while you can.”

“You're not gonna fool me with that old trick,” Scott replied. The other Hisui-Mon Ghosts crawl closer to the three siblings.

“Scott, we've gotta get outta here,” Kerry told him.

“Yeah, come on, come on!” Rebecca insisted.

“No, let go of me!” Scott yelled, as he swung his stick he tried to hit Rebecca, but ended up knocking over another pile of rocks. This angered the other ghosts.

“You've gone too far. You will pay the ultimate price,” the Wyrdeer declared, as its eyes lit up, with fire in its pupils. The other Hisui-Mon ghosts charged towards the three.

“Ahh!” screamed Kerry and Rebecca as they grabbed Scott by the arm and ran away. The Hisui-Mon ghost chased after them siblings, as they ran through the forest, and through the bushes.

“Did we lose them?” Rebecca asked.

“I don't-” Kerry’s reply was cut short when she tripped on a tree root, causing the trio to fall down and roll down the mountain, with Rebecca knocking her mouth on a rock. The trio continued to roll as they fell off a ledge and landed on a piece of earth sticking out from the mountain side. They groan in pain, while Hisui-Mon ghosts catch up to them.

“You will not leave this forest alive,” The Wyrdeer declared as a group of Hisuian Arcanine ghosts flew down to other surfaces next to the injured siblings.

“It's all broken...” Kerry groaned, she couldn’t move her arms, body or legs.

Rebecca felt pain in her mouth, as she removed some poison ivy from her mouth, she moaned in horror, now unable to speak. Also her mouth was bleeding a little, she must have also gotten a broken jaw when she smashed her mouth on that rock.

“Ugh, my arms,” Scott grunted, they could hear the growling and barking from the ghost Arcanine, “That isn't you guys, is it?”

“Nope, definitely not us,” Kerry replied, weakly.

“Okay, maybe I was wrong about that being the main path, but I just can't trust you. Give it to me straight, do we have a chance of getting out of here?” Scott asked, Kerry looked to her left and saw some rope wrapped around a branch.

“Yeah, there's a chance,” Kerry replied, “But the only way it's gonna work is if you trust us.”

“I don't have much of a choice, do I?” Scott admitted.

“Alright, Rebecca, grab that rope over there and take it to Scott,” Kerry told her.

Rebecca did so, using her multiple arms and her own webbing as well as help from Scott, tied the rope around all three of them. Scott was tied in the middle with Kerry on his back and Rebecca on his front, with each having to work together as if they were one. Kerry as the head, giving orders and could see, Scott as the legs, and Rebecca as the arms. Rebecca had her own legs also tied to Scott’s legs while to help hold them all together, used two of her pairs of arms to hold Scott and Kerry.

“Scott, you're gonna run as fast as you can, and when I say 'jump', you're gonna do a little jump,” Kerry told him.

“Jump? Jump how far?” Scott questioned.

“Not far,” Kerry replied.

“You better know what you're doing!” Scott retorted.

The Arcanine ghosts suddenly leaped forward towards the trio.

“Run!” Kerry yelled. Scott ran at full force with the ghosts chasing after him, “Jump!” Scott jumped off the edge as the three fell fast towards the forest floor, screaming all the way.

“What's happening?!” Scott cried over the screaming, “I thought you said it wasn't that far!”

“I didn't think you'd jump if I said it was far!” Kerry replied, “Okay Rebecca, get ready to grab as hard as you can!” Rebecca moans in approval. “Now!” the Cheetah girl replied, as Rebecca managed to grab the top of one of the trees and slide down in circles. As well as badly burning her hands on the wood, “Now let go!” Kerry shouted, but she hadn’t calculated this very well. As Rebecca let go, the three of them sadly hit a nearby tree, bouncing off it and landing on tree branch after tree branch before eventually landing on a pile of pinecones.

“Whatever wasn't broken, it's broken now...” groaned Kerry, Scott got up off the pinecones and walked backwards to the trunk, as the three were confronted with a Ursaluna Ghost, “Duck!” The trio successfully ducked in time as the Ursaluna slashed the tree, leaving a mark on the trunk which left behind some yellow goo. “Run!” Kerry shouted as Scott proceeded to run again with the Ursaluna ghost on their tail, “Flip!”

“Front flip or backflip?” Scott asked.

“Front!” Kerry replied as Scott did a front flip and jumped off a branch before the Ursaluna totalled the tree completely by its ghostly shadow claw, “Spin right! Run!” Kerry continued to give orders as the trio continued to run with the Ursaluna ghost still chasing. “Now run forward and backflip!”

“What?! Forward and a backflip?” Scott shouted.

“Just trust me!” Kerry screamed back, and Scott did exactly that, he ran up a tree trunk, and backflipped while moving forwards, trapping the Ursaluna ghost in between the trunks. “Keep moving!” Scott kept running, while on higher ground, the Ghost Wyrdeer and three Avaluggs watched them. The Wyrdeer snorts and nods its head to the three, signalling the Avalugg ghosts to knock a bunch of rocks downhill, “Left, right, jump! Left, right, jump!” The trio heard a rumbling sound.

“What's that noise?” Scott questioned Kerry and looked up to see a rock avalanche sweeping down their path, as it destroyed the trees encountered along the way.

“Rock slide! Jump!” Kerry cried, Scott jumped, as Rebecca grabbed the branch above them, but a ghost Braviary flew towards the branch causing itself and the branch to explode, and making the trio fall, “Monkey bars!” Kerry shouted as Rebecca mumbled and used her arms to jump through each branch whilst doing a backflip while the exploding Braviarys chased them. “Front flip! Monkey bars! Forward! Backflip! Up! Right!” The last remaining ghost Braviary flies towards them, as Kerry screams, “Flip!”

The last remaining ghost Braviary exploded, as Rebecca jumped up to another branch. Meanwhile, by a river, the Ghost Wyrdeer watched them go, as a bunch of ghost Kleavors were cutting down a beaver dam. Once it was destroyed, the ground beneath them completely submerged under the water. The tree started to break and fall away quickly.

“Pull up! Legs! Back! Twist flip! Hands! Flip!” Kerry ordered, as the trio jumped from falling tree to falling tree and soon landed on a floating tree on the river, “Balance! Run in place like a lumberjack!” Scott started to run backwards making the tree spin forward fast. At the same time, a ghost Basculegion jumped out of the water, “Duck!” Kerry then heard something in the distance, “You hear that train? Run towards it and then jump!”

“You better be right about this!” Scott cried as he moved to his left all the while avoiding the Basculegion.

“Run! Jump!” Kerry shouted, as Scott jumped off the tree, as the trio fell in the direction of a moving train, all the while screaming, “Arms! Legs!” The three landed between two cargo containers, as they held onto it, Rebecca’s arms and Scott’s legs started to slip, “Go up!” Together, Rebecca and Scott wall jumped up but when they reached the top, the Ghost Wyrdeer was standing in front of them.

“This is where it ends,” The Wyrdeer declared. Rebecca and Kerry scream in fright.

“Who's there?!” Scott shouted in confusion.

“Backflip!” Kerry shouted, "Scott does so right as the Wyrdeer was about to strike them, “Hands! Feet!” Scott backflips away as the Wyrdeer charged after them, “Hands! Feet! Hands! Feet! Hands! Feet! Hands! Feet! Hands! Feet! Hands! Stop!” Kerry shouted as they reached the final train truck, and nearly fell off.

“What's the matter, why did we stop?!” Scott cried as the Wyrdeer drew closer.

“There's nowhere else to go but down!” Kerry replied.

“What?!” Scott yells.

“Do you trust us?” Kerry asked Scott.

“Yes!” Scott replies, his voice breaking as he breathes heavily.

“Do you trust us with your life?” Kerry questioned.

“YES!! I trust you with my life!” Scott cried louder, hurting his voice box.

“Then jump!!” Kerry screamed, just as the Wyrdeer was about to strike and kill them, Scott jumped off the train car, they screamed as they fell towards the forest below. The Wyrdeer watched them with its serious expression, but its tone changed.

“I admire your level of trust for one another, children of the living. If you survive this fall, you are free to go,” the Wyrdeer announced as it disappeared into the night sky and the train sped away. The three siblings continue screaming, as they fall down towards the forest.

“I'm sorry! I should have trusted you! You are my sisters after all!” Scott shouted.

“It's okay, Scott! Sometimes we don’t take our job seriously!” Kerry replied.

“I love you two!” Scott howled.

“We love you too!!” Kerry cried.

“I love you!” Rebecca tried to say but it came out as a mumble.

The three siblings continued to scream as they fell into the forest. As they fall through a tree, they suddenly appear above a waterfall.

“Trust fall!” Kerry screamed one more time as the trio dived into the water. Emily was standing at the bottom of the mountain, right beside the air balloon, she had been waiting there all night for the three of them, when suddenly from a sewer pipe Kerry, Scott and Rebecca shot out and landed on the hard ground. They all groaned, in pain but alive.

“Well done! Scotty, I'm so proud of you for completing the task!” Emily cheered as Scotty spits out water and coughs, while Kerry groans in pain, her voice box hurt from screaming so much. At the same time, Emily gives them each a plate with a sandwich and three slices of apple on it, “Now, I fixed us all some ham sandwiches, which I trust you'll enjoy.”

“Take us to the hospital,” was the last thing Kerry wheezed before all three collapsed from exhaustion.

Author's Note

Hi guys

Here's a nice shorter chapter staring Sam's Siblings, and also giving a reason to why they might not appear in the rest of the serious except maybe hospital scenes. I was debating whether this would feature Sam's Siblings or the Dazzlings as it's the anniversary of Rainbow Rocks. Or was the anniversary I don't know. But I chose to stick with Sam's siblings in the end.

Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, and I'll see you in the next one, whenever that will be. Maybe not this week, because it's my birthday on the 5th.
