The Light Of Science

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Wandering through the jungle outside the village was a woman with white skin and black hair who was dressed in what looked like a black torn-up bunny girl suit who suddenly heard the sound of an ocarina and the smell of something good.

“Is that Ramen I smell?” The woman asked herself before moving as fast as her heels would allow her to towards the source.

Meanwhile, Moondancer and her allies were parked outside the village where everyone was gathering to see what the noise was.

“What is all of this?” One of the villagers asked.

“And what smells so good?” Dana asked.

“That Dana would be our scientific dish called Ramen, care to try it?” Sylvia asked.

“Heck yeah,” Dana said before taking a bowl and slurping the noodles down. Suddenly Dana looked like she was in heaven by how good it tasted. “All of you have got to try this, it's amazing. Suddenly all of the villagers lined up and Kira and Gina began serving them.

“Are you the one who made this yummy bowl of deliciousness?” Scarlet asked Moondancer.

“Sure did,” Moondancer said.

“If science can make something this good then I want to see more,” Chloe said.

“I’m with you there sister,” Aleya said.

“I must say this tastes amazing,” The bunny woman said before Kira and Gina and the rest of the villagers pointed their weapons at her.

“Who are you and where did you come from, beast lady?” Kira asked assertively.

“Answer carefully,” Gina warned.

“I would appreciate it if you stop pointing those things at me,” The woman said before all the weapons broke all at once like magic. “As for who I am, my name is Sandra, the assistant to the amazing Xavier.

“You mean that cheesy magician from the SS. Borealis?” Moondancer asked.

“I’ll have you know he is one the best magicians in the world and he was also my master,” Sandra said.

“Wait if you are here are there any other survivors too?” Moondancer asked.

“Other than you and me I did not find anyone else,” Sandra said.

“If the two of you are done chatting can we get back to the fact this witch is an outsider who just destroyed all of our weapons in a single second and is possibly dangerous,” Kira said.

“Relax Kira she is harmless,” Moondancer said before switching to a more sinister expression. “That said she and the rest of the villagers who ate the ramen have some hellishly grueling work to do now. Sometime later the bellows for the iron-making furnace were upgraded to two bamboo pipes with smaller bamboo pipes inside.

“We upgraded our blowing capability to level two,” Sylvia said while Sandra and some of the other villagers were busy pumping air into the furnace.

“We may have to work in shifts to make it work but it will succeed,” Moondancer said. Hours later the blowing process was now complete and in Moondancer’s hand was an iron bar.

Iron Acquired

“So you made an Iron bar, big deal,” Sandra said.

“Oh it will be a very big deal once you see what I have planned for it,” Moondancer said.

“What’s next a sword?” Sandra asked.

“How about a Generator?” Moondancer asked smugly.

“A GENERATOR? ARE YOU NUTS? HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE ONE OF THOSE ON THIS PRIMITIVE ISLAND?” Sandra shouted in disbelief.

“Hey Sylvia, can you bring me as much of your copper as you can spare?” Moondancer asked ignoring Sandra.

“Sure but what are you planning to do with all of it?” Sylvia asked.

“I will show you once I get the tools we need ready,” Moondancer said before carving a channel into a wooden plank she had leftover from her roof job. Next, she carved a big round indent into the stone table. Soon after Sylvia returned with a whole basket full of copper.

“Ok I got the copper now will you tell me what you're going to do with it?” Sylvia asked.

“Why tell you when I can show you,” Moondancer said before using the furnace to melt some of it down and then pouring it into the channel she carved into the plank. Once it was solidified she wrapped the copper wire tightly around the iron bar and then rubbed lacquer onto it. “Now all we need is some Lightning and we are in business. Fortunately, a low-pressure system was coming in along with some cumulonimbus clouds which meant a storm was coming.

“Lucky us you asked for lightning and we got it,” Sylvia said joyfully.

“This isn't luck, it's the worst possible timing,” Moondancer said. “We need to get to that bald mountain fast before the storm stops. The girls booked it as fast as they could with Moondancer almost out of breath due to her lack of athletic ability. As soon as they reached the mountain Moondancer was in no shape to climb it.

“Get on my back, I will carry you up there,” Sylvia said before carrying Moondancer piggyback style. “By the way what’s with the spear and what is the yellow stuff on the tip of it?

“That Sylvia is called gold, I helped myself to some of your cinnabar and melted it so I could coat the tip of this spear,” Moondancer explained.

“Any reason why?” Sylvia asked.

“To make a lightning rod, we are going to be taking a page out of Woj Saleski’s book with this experiment,” Moondancer said.

“Woj Who?” Sylvia asked.

“He was a scientist from NASA who did experiment with lightning to create powerful magnets,” Moondancer explained. As soon as they reached the top Moondancer tied the iron bar to the handle of the spear and then stabbed it into the ground before retreating to a safe distance since she and Sylvia were dangerously close to the lightning. A few moments later a bolt of lightning struck the spear and magnetized the iron bar while also splitting it in two. As soon as the storm passed Sylvia grabbed the two bars curious about them.

“Uh, Moondancer I think we failed to create magnets?” Sylvia said which shocked Moondancer for a moment before she saw the problem. “They won’t go near each other, some force is driving them apart.

“Just switch one of their poles,” Moondancer said in an annoyed tone before turning one of them upside down and suddenly being pulled towards the other one.

Powerful Magnets Acquired

Suddenly Sylvia began to envision the first part of the roadmap in her head. “We can make it now can we? That crazy thing you call Electricity?

“I’m curious Moondancer? Are you creating a thermal generator or a wind turbine? I don’t suppose you're going nuclear yet?” Sandra asked. Moondancer looked at her with a neutral expression.

“It will be muscle-powered,” Moondancer said which took Sandra by surprise.

“I should have expected as much,” Sandra said. As soon as the girls returned to Moondancer’s Hut the next part of the plan began with melting down a bunch more copper which wore the villagers out. As for Moondancer, her face was all puffed up all of a sudden.

“We will hammer the copper to stretch it, turn it into a disk and grind it down,” Moondancer said in an odd voice caused by her face being all puffed up. Sylvia began using the new iron hammer Moondancer made to hammer the copper. Next Moondancer began using a measuring tool to form the circumference needed to cut out the disk.

“HEY, let's try and grind this disk down with Corundum. It’s one of the hardest rocks I got,” Sylvia suggested.

“The second strongest mineral after diamond, I love your collection Sylvia,” Moondancer said. Gina and Kira began grinding down the giant copper disk with Gina holding the corundum in place while Kira spun the disk stupidly fast. Next Moondancer began dipping some copper wires in what looked like a clay bowl of Lacquer. “I thought we coat the copper wires with Phosphoric acid but this lacquer should work just fine. Sandra approaches her while she did it.

“I’ve been wracking my brain to come up with the perfect quip but I’m just going to ask,” Sandra said.

“What?” Moondancer asked.

“Why do you look like a human marshmallow?” Sandra asked.

“Lacquer Poisoning,” Moondancer said. Sometime later the newest addition to the Kingdom of Science was a contraption made from wood, bamboo, two magnets, and two giant copper disks with crank handles and copper wires attached to them.

“Oh yeah,” Sylvia said with joy.

“The Kingdom of Science advances,” Moondancer said now cured of her Lacquer Poisoning. “Our Dual-wield hand crank generator is now complete.

Power Generator Acquired

“So do we need to spin them both in unison?” Gina asked.

“That seems pretty challenging,” Kira said.

“Not if two people do it,” Aki said.

“If they get out of sync it will break down, the timing has to be perfect,” Sylvia said.

“Not to brag or anything but Kira and I are perfectly coordinated and have tons of energy,” Gina said pridefully.

“Oh really then prove it,” Moondancer said. Suddenly Kira and Gina began cranking the generator crazy fast while maintaining perfect synchronization. It was now Nighttime and Sandra was now curious as to what Moondancer had planned for this Generator. Suddenly Moondancer showed Sandra a leaf with what looked like some kind of filament on it. “It's a steam-roasted Bamboo Fiber. Sandra was still confused as Moondancer climbed onto her roof along with the filament and wires from the generator.

“Does it have to be that high up?” Aki asked.

“Not really but I figured why not,” Moondancer said. Suddenly Sandra realized what Moondancer was doing.

“I see now, She is using that bamboo fiber to create an Edison Lightbulb,” Sandra said.

“What’s a Bulb Of Light?” Aki asked.

“Sylvia? Does the Night scare you?” Moondancer asked.

“Of course because everything gets dark. Why do you ask?” Sylvia asked.

“Back home there was no darkness,” Moondancer said before explaining further. “With old man Edison’s Incandescent Lightbulb Humanity beat back the night, conquering all twenty-four hours of the day. With the power of science, mankind defeated the darkness. Moondancer paused in suspense as she prepared the wires. “And now we are going to do it again. She suddenly put the ends of the wires on the fiber which caused it to light up. The bright light it was creating amazed all that were present but not as much as it did Sandra who now believed Moondancer could build a new civilization on this primitive island. Suddenly the bamboo Fiber burned and broke.

“Aw man the light went out,” Sylvia said.

“Relax Sylvia that was just a demonstration of the power of electricity, we will be making real Lightbulbs some other day but right now we have a cure-all sulfa drug to make,” Moondancer said.

Meanwhile, inside Lucy’s Room, the empress was by her side when she saw the light coming from Moondancer’s Hut outside the window.

“Light at night? How could this be possible?” The empress asked before it hit her. “This must be some of Moondancer’s science. Lucy woke up and also saw the light and was amazed by it.

“Mom, what is that light?” Lucy asked.

“I don’t know but I must say I'm impressed,” The empress said.

On Prison Island adjacent to Lycoris Island one of the men saw the light coming from the island and ran to inform the leader of what is now the new kingdom of might established after overthrowing the guards. The man ran into a room with a big man with long black hair and muscles sitting on a rock throne.

“Sir There is a bright light coming from lycoris Island, “The man said.

“Probably just a big brush fire from today’s thunderstorm,” The big man said.

“That’s just it, it's not a fire, It looks like something from an Edison Lightbulb,” The other man said which suddenly peaked the bigger man’s interest.

“So those brawny bimbos have started growing some brains, Now things are getting interesting,” The bigger man said. Suddenly another man came in.

“Magnus I have some news to report,” The third man said.

“What is it, Greg?” Magnus asked.

“We have some new arrivals whose small boat washed up on the beach a while ago,” Greg said. Suddenly the new arrivals were brought in and were revealed to be a handful of the passengers from the SS. Borealis three of which were Moondancer’s family.

“Sir where are we?” One of the male passengers asked.

“You are on Prison island a small landmass that is connected to Lycoris Island,” Magnus said.

“Prison Island?” One of the female passengers asked in confusion. Magnus wasted no time in deciding what to do with the new arrivals.

“The men can stay but as for the women, Greg, Stan. Escort them to the dungeon,” Magnus ordered before all the ladies including Moondancer’s Mom and Sister were escorted out of the room.

“Hey, now that was my wife and child you just incarcerated,” Moondancer’s dad said.

“Too bad, All women are our enemies,” Magnus said. “Now you can either join us or rot in the dungeon with your family. Moondancer’s dad opted for the third option which was to go to Lycoris Island to find help. He was in great shape and used to be a varsity track star back in high school.

“Is that guy insane he is going to get killed by those heartless amazons,” Greg said.

“Let him be he chose his fate,” Magnus said before returning to his throne.
