Prince of the Herd
Drinks with friends
Previous ChapterNext ChapterFrostBite trotted next to Spike as they approached the bar. "Spike. Are you sure about this?" He asked, looking at the purple dragon. "I mean… I don't know if we should be drinking till after…"
Spike silenced him with a claw to his lips. "Relax. If anything happens, then I'll just say it was my idea. And everything will be ok."
"Are you sure about that?" FrostBite asked, looking back to the castle. "I get a strange feeling Pinkie isn't one you want to get in the way of." He cautioned. Shivering at what those bizarre eyes hid within the stallion followed the now nervous dragon.
"Good point." Spike agreed. "Maybe we can make it up to her." He suggested as they made their way to the bar. "But let's wait till after the party."
"What party?" FrostBite asked. He took a moment to think as he waved over the bartender. "Wait… you mean?"
"Ya," Spike answered with a shrug. "She does it for every new pony in town…. Come to think about it. She does it for just about anything she thinks is special." Spike added as he rubbed his chin.
"Can I help you?" A lazed stallion asked, looking as worn out as he looked.
"Ya…Ummmm. What do you have that contains milk?" FrostBite asked as Spike ordered Buck Staniels. "My horns still itch a little."
"Are they still growing?" Spike asked as the waiter pulled out a menu for FrostBite.
"Is that normal?" FrostBite asked, looking the menu over. "Oh… they have drinks for molting dragons." Looking over the list he turned it to the patent bartender. "I'll try this one." With a nod the waiter turned to get the drinks.
Spike had taken the break in conversation to consider what to tell his friend. "Well… from what Ember told me… it sounds like you might have a buildup. So the milk will help."
"Would you be interested in knowing today's donors?" The bartender asked, causing Spike to stifle back a snicker and FrostBite to look at him in confusion. "I was informed Dragons have a preference when it comes to taste. And surprisingly each dragon has a different taste." He explained in amusement.
Thinking for a moment FrostBite looked over to Spike who nodded. "I guess that's fine…" He paused for a moment in realization. "Wait… donors… as in more than one?"
The waiter set two shot glasses in front of each of them, each with a different color ring. "Yes." The bartender answered. "In fact you gentledraces are in luck. The milk in the cup with the red ring is from the dragon lord herself. As for the blue one… it is from a pony here in town. And before you ask. Yes. The ladies do lactate even before they are pregnant." He added seeing bothe draces lift a claw. "Tho I normally have to get their milk from the market."
FrostBite and Spike looked at each other before silently agreeing that Spike would try the pony and FrostBite would try Ember's milk. Taking a sip from their respective glasses, the two sat and took a moment to let the taste wash over them before swallowing.
"Sweet… yet with a bit of a kick." FrostBite concluded.
"Ritch with a smooth velvety texture." Spike sighed imagining the pony it was from.
"I take it you have made your choices?" The bartender asked, reserving a nod from both of them. "Very well. One moment please." He confirmed before making the appropriate adjustments to the drinks.
As the bar pony set their brinks down the two thanked him with a few bits as a tip.
Time seemed to move slower as they became lost in whatever they were talking about. "You know…" Spike started as he swirled his drink a little. "I've tried to tell Rarity how I feel…" He hiccuped. "But… you promise not to tell?" FrostBite nodded, licking his lips at the taste of milk. "I've thought about being with all the girls… and a few guys." FrostBite blinked and as he went to say something, he turned to find Spike getting close to his muzzle. "And… you're one of them."
FrostBite blinked and quickly pulled away letting Spike plop on the stool. "I'm flattered. But… I don't know if I'm ready for something like that." Looking at the bartender, he silently asked for backup. But to his dismay the bartender just gave him a mischievous grin. What shocked FrostBite more was the stallion had different sized eyes for a moment. "I… should go." He said, tossing two gems on the counter, before galloping for the door.
With a sigh the stallion turned to Spike. "Are you really drunk? Or are you acting so you can hit on him?" He asked looking down at the drac who smiled back at him.
FrostBite slid to a stop a few blocks away thinking about what had happened. "Did… am I?.... what?" He thought sitting on his flank. "I think I'm in trouble."
After a few minutes Smolder walked over laughing about the face she saw him making. "What got you so flushed Stipes? Did some cute mare try to kiss you?" She laughed.
"Not exactly." FrostBite replied. "Spike tried to kiss me."
Blinking for a moment, Smolder laughed. "For real? I didn't know he swung that way. But don't worry too much. It's common for two male dragons to be close." She explained. "In fact I remember my brother telling me how his two pals were members of his horde."
FrostBite blinked and looked at Smolder in shock before looking around at the passing ponies. "You sure we should talk about this in the middle of the street?"
Smolder looked over at a stallion who stopped and listened to their conversation. "Why not?" She asked, flicking her tongue at the stallion and laughed at seeing him blush and run off. "Not like most of these ponies either care or object to the topic. So, you drunk or do you think you want to see if Twilight has something strong enough to help you relax?"
"I think I can go for another drink." FrostBite sighed. "Pluss we need to talk to the girls about what we're going to do about housing." With that the two made their way for the castle.
Author's Note
I'll be honest. I have little to no plans for Spike yet. But I thought I'd at least place it as a possibility.
