Back in Maretime Bay, reports of missing ponies had started flooding in. After the Bay Day incident ponies had started to respect Sunny as an alicorn, and thus most of these reports went to her instead of sheriff Hitch.

Sunny let out a deep sigh, closing her eyes as she thought about the events of the past few weeks. It had been a couple of months since magic was restored to Equestria again, and things hadn’t gotten any easier. Sure, ponies had stopped fighting and the magic of friendship was healthy, but a couple of weeks ago she’d started getting reports of missing ponies.

She tried to tell ponies to send these reports to Hitch, but it seemed their newfound trust in her was now a curse. She couldn’t just turn them away when their friends and family were missing! Her friends had started to worry, and now it was at the point where Hitch would actively follow her around to lead ponies away when they wanted to tell her something.

She appreciated the gesture, but she was worried that she wasn’t being a very good friend. On one hoof, what exactly was she supposed to do about these disappearances? And on the other hoof, wasn’t the whole point of alicorns that they were the protectors of Equestria?

All of the known alicorns in history had been princesses, save for one villain who’d turned herself into an alicorn temporarily. Nightmare Moon didn’t count, she was just an extension of princess Luna.

Zip, playing into her newfound detective role, had been running around all over Maretime Bay looking for clues. Sometimes Sunny wondered if her friends weren’t taking this as seriously as she was. Should she even be taking it seriously? Maybe the missing ponies had just run off to new homes, or something…

“Cheer up Sunny, I know what’ll make you feel better, icecream!” Izzy said, bouncing on her hooves.

“You’re right, ice cream does sound nice,” Sunny said. She gave Izzy a weak smile, and they turned and headed for the ice cream shop.

Before they could get far, however, their ears perked as they heard a mare yelling in the distance.

Sunny looked back, her mouth falling agape as a yellow pegasus ran through town. She was heading toward them; her mane was messy and something red was streaked across her sides. Something was very wrong here.

Sunny gasped as she made a horrifying realization. She knew this mare was a pegasus because she recognized her, Sunflower. Except as she cried for help all that remained of her wings were little bloody stumps.

“S-Sunny?” Izzy squeaked, she stood frozen in fear as she stared wide eyed at the mutilated pony.

“HELP ME!” Sunflower screamed as she ran straight into Sunny, knocking her onto her back.

Sunflower sobbed and shivered as she buried her muzzle into Sunny’s chest, a crowd of ponies with horrified expressions begging to form around the pair.

There was a thud as Izzy hit the ground, having fainted from the sight of Sunflowers gushing wounds.

“Sunflower! What’s wrong, what happened!?” Sunny asked, panicking. She winced as she regretted her words, she knew what was bucking wrong, Sunflower was MISSING her WINGS.

“T-There's a m-monster in th-the woods!” Sunflower stammered; hugging Sunny so tight she felt her back pop.

“What happened to your wings?” Sunny asked, correcting her previous question. She gently wrapped her arms around Sunflower’s back, being extra careful not to touch her wing stumps.

“It RIPPED them OFF!” Sunflower yelled, crying intensely.

“It’s okay, it’s going to be okay,” Sunny cooed, trying her best to comfort the distraught mare.

“Izzy, can you-” Sunny gasped as she noticed Izzy had fainted. “Oh no, oh no,” Izzy stopped herself before she started to hyperventilate, she took a calming breath and looked around at the crowd.

“Can some unicorns please lift her to the hospital? And g-get Izzy some help too,” Sunny said, fresh tears streaked down her cheeks as she rubbed Sunflower’s back.

By the time a couple of unicorns lifted Sunflower off of Sunny, the poor yellow pegasus had passed out from blood loss.

Far above Maretime Bay, unbeknownst to the ponies below, a pair of crimson eyes watched the scene unfold. Senor Butterscotch grinned as Sunflower and Izzy were lifted away to the hospital, Sunny standing on wobbly legs as ponies crowded around her with questions.

Oh, how much chaos he’d just caused. He felt something dark fluctuate within him at that specific word, and at that moment he felt like being a bit more chaotic.

He was holding himself among the clouds using telekinesis, something he could only dream of doing all those months ago. But now, he felt like a god as dark magic crackled around him.

Sunny had just gotten away from the crowd, her heart beating a mile a minute as she desperately tried to calm down.

What the BUCK just happened!? She thought. Sunny had never been fond of cursing, her dad had taught her that it was inappropriate, but right now she couldn’t find it in her to care.

She had never once seen an injury that bad, hell she’d never even seen blood before! Ponies just, DIDN’T get hurt! That kind’ve thing just DIDN’T happen in Equestria!

Just as Sunny was starting to calm down, something fat and furry fell from the sky and splattered right in front of her. She screamed and backed away, her rump pressing against the brick building. It was a rabbit, or well it had been, now it was mostly red pulp on the sidewalk.

Sunny screamed again as another one hit the ground just inches from her, she bolted out of the alley she’d been hiding in and bore witness to a horrible sight. Rabbits were falling from the sky left and right, painting the streets red as they fell like rain.

One hit a stallion right in the head, caving his horn into his skull and killing him instantly.

Soon a malicious laughter filled the air, catching the attention of everypony as they were momentarily distracted from the chaos.

Oddly, it hadn’t come from Senor Butterscotch, so his ears perked as they tried to figure out where the sound was coming from.

Then he felt that dark energy fluctuate within him again, and he gasped as a light suddenly flashed from his chest. He peeked one eye open, and realized he was no longer using his magic.

Instead, rabbits continued to fall from the sky without his aid, and now he was staying aloft via two black pegasus wings.

What!? He thought. He didn’t WANT them, and just like that they were gone! He blinked, yet he found that even with them gone he was still stuck in place.

Use this power well, for you are now the new Spirit of Chaos. If you don’t continue being chaotic, you will fade away just like the last.

Senor Butterscotch cringed at the booming voice, this time it had emanated from his very soul. After a moment he looked back down at Maretime Bay. Sunny had managed to summon her alicorn powers and was using her magic to shield a group of ponies as she led them into a building.

Spirit of Chaos, huh? He thought, a grin spread across his muzzle.

With a flick of his hoof, the bunnies were replaced with knives. Now that was better, instead of running around avoiding falling rabbits, ponies were now being impaled several times each by glinting blades.

His eyes went wide, his pupils turning to pinpricks as he descended on the town. Illuminating his horn, he found that his magical well was now endless, he had no idea what he’d done to get this new power, but he certainly knew how to use it!

Just for show he resummoned the black wings, this time larger. He slammed into the ground, his hooves cracking the pavement as he lifted his gaze.

His eyes met a unicorn mare, who shrieked as he telekinetically lifted her into the air. The scream caught Sunny’s attention, and she turned around just in time to see the mare pop like a balloon. Her blood and organs painted the ground, and Sunny, red.

Sunny’s breath started to come out in little shutters as she looked down at herself, her eyes widening as far as they could as she saw and felt the warm red liquid dripping from her pelt.

Senor Butterscotch let out a maniacal giggle, which then turned into a boisterous laughter as Sunny’s eyes trailed back up to him.

Sunny sniffled once, then she aimed her glowing horn toward him and out bursted a wave of pure alicorn magic.
