Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
Interlude: Newfound Power
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAfter forging the Runeblade, and Sombra learned how to wield the power of separating it into her original Keyblades and putting them back together to form the Ancient Weapon, everyone got serious about training, everyone focused on trying to learn a new skill or improve part of their existing skills. There was a reason for this, because Xigbar reported that the dark army Tenebris was forming happened to have a large number of strong individuals and was sure that some might do some serious damage to those that were following Sombra's group, meaning they needed to train to win the final war. Prexus and the Foretellers agree with him, because while five of them had missed feeling Tenebris' power they knew their friend wouldn't lie to them about something like this, so all they could do was prepare for what the future held in store for them, hence why they took to training everyone else. Even Merlin and Yen Sid, both skilled wizards who didn't fight much these days, were with them, utilizing their powers to stimulate better training conditions for everyone, to help Sora, Donald, Goofy, and everyone else to focus on whatever portion of themselves they wanted to improve.
In fact Sombra was learning the highest tier of the magical spells that were available to her, because that would widen her own arsenal, and that meant speaking with Mickey to learn 'Ultima', which appeared to be the strongest spell around, as it might come in handy when it was time for them to engage Tenebris' forces.
"So, how long will it take to make the other Ancient Weapon?" Sora asked, as Prexus had said there were three in the World, an Ultima Keyblade to join the X-Blade and Runeblade, and he was interested in how long it would take the figure to collect all of the components needed to make the final weapon so they would be ready for the final battle.
"It won't be ready for some time. There are a few special components that need to be obtained before we can forge it... in the normal forge this time." Prexus replied, because the final weapon was made out of a number of items that were hard to obtain, the World had made it that way to ensure only the most courageous could craft it, but right now he knew it would let him gather all of the items he needed, without the various trials.
"You know, I think I'm starting to understand something: I think Radiant and I can unlock new powers based on the abilities we were given at the start of our adventure." Fluttershy commented, as she had been doing her best to train and even found that all of her animals were getting in on the action, as if they knew the danger that the World was in and wanted to do their part to make sure they won the final battle, even if there were enemies far stronger than them, "You know how the World gave me the ability to befriend all sorts of creatures, an improvement to my natural skills, plus the farming skill? Well, I've been wondering what might happen if I found a way to combine my skills into a single power and then used it to empower myself. I might be able to stand near Sombra's level again."
Sombra knew what she meant, because while each of them had grown since the start of their adventure, learning all sorts of new tricks along the way, only she had grown by leaps and bounds, which was due to her unique skill she wagered, despite her having not actually absorbed the hearts she had collected for a long time. With that in mind she focused on assisting her friends and companions in seeing if they could actually learn new things, since this would help them in the last main event they had to worry about, as there was no telling what sort of dangers Tenebris had summoned into his army. As such she and the others were doing everything in their power to make sure Fluttershy and Radiant figured out how to wield whatever new powers they thought they could unlock, especially since Prexus agreed with them on that fact, due to the fact that the World favored them more than anyone else. He was sure they had been given more powers and that they could only be accessed through hard work and effort, and in the face of Sombra's elder brother this seemed like the best time for them to unlock those new powers, in order to protect the World from the danger it was facing.
Eventually, however, Fluttershy proved herself right as her magical power flared during their training session, though at the same time two of her animals, one of the rabbits that worked in their private world and Sabor, the leopard from Tarzan's world, started to glow for a moment before they were lifted into the air. In the next moment they seemed to turn into small spheres and surged into her body, where Sombra and the others found that she stopped and was consumed by light, as if she was transforming before their very eyes, but all Sombra could do was smile, since this was the key. When the light finally faded they discovered that her body was now covered in leopard spots, her hands were claws, and her eyes were more like Sabor's now, while at the same time her hooves had turned into rabbit feet, she had a rabbit tail, and her ears were rabbit ears. In that moment Sombra understood what they were seeing, Fluttershy's ultimate power was to call upon the powers of her animal companions, utilizing their strengths and none of their weaknesses, and that likely meant she could use one at a time or even all of them at once, and with the likes of Cerberus and the Hydra in hand that gave her the potential for being a ridiculously strong fighter.
She even proved that fact, as Fluttershy rushed around the area with Sabor's speed, while the rabbit gave her incredible jumps and even powerful kicks since she knocked Riku back when he had her try her power on him, meaning this 'Chimera' power was her ultimate skill, and it was a strong one at that.
"I'd wager you would get three heads and strength from Cerberus, and incredible regeneration from the Hydra." Sombra said, though as she said that Fluttershy reverted to her base form as her surprised and confused animals appeared nearby, as neither of them had been expecting such a thing to happen, but Fluttershy herself was pleased with this, because it told her it was a good thing she had been befriending and gathering animals from some of the worlds, since it meant her power could give her a lot of abilities when the time came, "This is definitely a great power."
Radiant, on the other hand, took a few more days to figure out what her other power might be, and when she did so it came with her literally exploding into a ball of fire, though when the smoke died down Sombra found that it was more like she was fire, like she was capable of manifesting an element's power in her body. The reason she suggested such a thing was due to the fact that Radiant could launch powerful fireballs and even channel the power into either her bow or her Keyblade, which boosted her combat abilities to a whole new level since that made her attacks are more deadly. Plus it wasn't just fire she was restricted to, as Radiant displayed the ability to call on water, earth, and wind at the very least, and Sombra confirmed that she had the power to merge the elements into even more devastating types, like lava and steam, and while all of it just told them she needed to be careful, since there was no telling what this power might mean for her, she was happy to have a new power. Her Elementalist power was definitely strong, especially since she could create crystalline walls that stopped her enemies in their tracks and utilize potent elemental attacks to harm her attackers, meaning that she and Fluttershy now had the power to take down enemies without Sombra or the others getting involved.
It was good to see, honestly, and Sombra found herself looking forward to what happened next, because it felt like they were gaining ground and might be able to end this war quickly when it came time to fight Tenebris, but she also kept her eyes and ears open, since there was no telling what might happen next.
"Sombra, I want you to take a few days off in the future... you and I are going to track down the other four Darknesses and seal them." Prexus said, speaking when the two of them were alone, with no one else in the surrounding area, a statement that reminded Sombra that the Master of Masters had sealed four of the remaining five Darknesses in a datascape, which meant he was planning on heading back and allowing her to capture them, "I'm still looking for the last one, though, so it'll be some time before the full set is complete."
"Don't worry, I have a feeling I know where to find the last Darkness." Sombra replied, because all of the information she had gained previously pointed to Vanitas being the host of the final target Prexus wanted to capture, in fact she was sure that Ventus had been a prison for that Darkness and Xehenort freed it when he created Vanitas, but she had another reason for tracking down Vanitas and hoped it was possible to do what was on her mind, "Just tell me when it's time to get going and I'll follow you to the prison... I'll be ready to seal them away."
As Prexus nodded Sombra found herself staring at the stars as she wondered what the future held in store for them, since things had derailed whatever plans the Master of Masters, Luxu, and Xehanort had created over the years, and she could only hope that they were prepared for whatever their enemies decided to do next.
