Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
War: Interrupted Cooking
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAfter dealing with four of the remaining five Darknesses, essentially freeing Prexus and Xigbar from the majority of the pains of their pasts, Sombra found that she and the others were able to relax, rest, train, and do whatever they wanted while she waited for Tenebris to make his move. It was actually quite weird that there wasn't a lot of movement from her brother, as she expected him to do something, anything, to just piss them off and disrupt their preparations, but it seemed like he was focused on the knowledge and power he could gain from the World and his dark recruits. This basically allowed her and the others to make all of the preparations they could possibly make, without being disrupted or annoyed, and it caused the days to turn into weeks, which then turned into months without delay, allowing the worlds to continue as if nothing was lurking in the shadows. As such that allowed everyone to focus on other things as well, such as hanging with friends that didn't know about the danger that was threatening to overwhelm the worlds, or simply finding other things to do while they waited for the time of the Keyblade War to start.
Sombra, for example, found that Scrooge McDuck was planning on setting up a new eatery, a bistro to be exact, and that it was going to be set up in Twilight Town, though while it was getting set up she discovered that he had a long list of things he wanted to do to achieve his newfound goals. What was interesting was that the duck happened to have someone in mind for his head chef, not that Sombra wanted that position since her focus happened to be on other things, but it just showed her that Scrooge was well prepared for the various plans he had in mind. Twilight Town seemed to be the new hub world for all of them, because there were merchants from other worlds among the vendors, meaning they knew that this was the best place to be to sell some stuff to the heroes that would be fighting the darkness in the future. Roxas was more okay with this than everyone else, because it meant that he was able to hang out with his friends from this world more than before, while at the same time Axel and Xion joined him, making a group of six that was as thick as thieves.
Things only got weird when Sombra noticed something odd, that being the presence of Heartless on this world, because a number of Powerwilds appeared in the forest outside the town and started messing with people, to which she, Fluttershy, Radiant, and Sora's group took care of them... only to find that the Heartless had been messing with a blue rat.
"Are you okay little one?" Fluttershy asked, though as the rat approached her, and seemed to be communicating with her with his hands, Sombra and the others noticed that there was a lot of fruit and other items scattered around the forest, all the rat's based on what they were seeing right now, "This little guy is called Remy, or 'Little Chef' as Scrooge calls him, and he was attacked by the Heartless... and he would like to thank us by making us something back in the bistro."
"Oh, this I've got to see." Sombra remarked, because this was a first for her, a rat that had a passion for cooking, and if that was true she might look into getting him a more humanoid form since that would make things infinitely easier for him, since she had to assume that running around the kitchen got tiring, causing her to chuckle as Remy looked at her, "I'm a chef as well... not an official one, mind you, but I have some excellent cooking skills. Just ask them."
"Oh yeah, her food is... I can't even begin to describe it, it's just that good." Sora said, as Sombra's food had been one of the many reasons that they had been able to get through so much together, even though her powers and the skills of the others had been a more critical part to everything, "She would even punish us by taking away our dessert privileges for a time... just ask Donald, he had to go a whole year without them."
"Made me learn my lesson." Donald stated, as that year had been the most annoying in his entire life, those delicious and mouthwatering desserts that he had been unable to partake in while everyone ate them, he even recalled running to his room to avoid growing too jealous over everyone else being able to eat them.
"Now he wants to see you in action." Fluttershy said, which was a good thing in her eyes, because Sombra seemed to enjoy cooking, even if she wouldn't admit that it seemed to be one of her passions, and this would allow her to relax a little more before they worried about whatever her older brother had planned.
Sombra nodded as she lifted the cooking materials with her magic and carried them back to the bistro, where she and Remy headed into the building as Sora and the others remained outside, mostly to keep an eye on what was going on while eager to see what sort of dish their friend might make. When they entered the kitchen Sombra found that Remy's style most of the time was to climb onto someone's head and then pull their hair to make them do what he wanted, to which she shook her head and just focused on them working together. The dish the rat wanted to make was the Tarte aux Fruits, a shortbread dessert made from fruit, and while he started work on that Sombra pulled out some beef so she could make a beef stew, a favorite among her friends, family, and allies. Remy walked by as she worked and carefully sampled her work, using one of the spoons like an actual chef would, causing Sombra to smile as she did the same to his dish, and it wasn't long before the two were laughing and helping each other like they had been cooking together for years.
It didn't take them too long to make their dishes, Sombra even plated hers like she worked at the bistro, and she carried the pair out to Scrooge and the others, allowing the duck to taste the dishes while the others did the same thing, though when he tasted the beef stew it was clear that he found something he liked.
"Woah, now that's a good dish... and you made a good impression on Little Chef. Maybe you'd like to be hired as well, and work with him as partners?" Scrooge asked, because one great chef had been quite the discovery, but finding that someone he knew was actually just as good as Remy was, perhaps even better, was the discovery of a lifetime that he couldn't pass up, as he was sure that this would increase food sales even more than what he had planned.
"Well, we have some business to attend to first... but maybe we'll swing by and share some new ingredients with Remy so we can make something new?" Sombra replied, where she found that the blue rat seemed to enjoy the idea, especially after he discovered someone that could actually keep up with his cooking ideas, not to mention his skills, and it made her wonder what he would think of the other ingredients that were aboard their ship.
As she said that, however, part of the sky darkened as a tornado of Heartless, Shadows by the looks of it, moved around the air, where Sombra found that they seemed to be converging on a font of dark energy that seemed to be the core, before she found that it was moving more like a serpent and less like a tornado.
"What is that?!" Sora asked, as this was the first time he and the others had seen anything like this, though Sombra, once again, seemed to be the only one that understood what they were seeing right now, as she was just staring at it while likely thinking back to the last time she laid eyes on it.
"A Demon Tower... a rather powerful type of Pureblood Heartless, made from Shadows and takes on the form of a twisting spire, as you can see." Sombra stated, though at the same time she noticed the power that was coming from it and found that it was definitely stronger than the ones she saw in the Darkworld, in fact it seemed like this one had a small bit of her brother's power lingering on it, causing her to frown, "Oh, I get it now... brother, what are you doing? Tenebris is drawing in the Heartless from other timelines now, just like he tore his dark recruits out of their own positions in time... his arrogance and foolishness truly knows no bounds."
As she said that both Fluttershy and Radiant burst into the air, Fluttershy calling on Sabor's speed as she landed on the top of the Demon Tower and ran down the length of it, her Keyblade cutting into the edges of the Shadows that made it up, all while it was unable to stop her. While she did that Radiant waved her hand and released a volley of fireballs into the air, that rushed all around the area before zeroing in on their foe, blasting it into oblivion as soon as Fluttershy jumped off it's back, where it collided with the ground not a few seconds later. Such a thing was followed by the rest of the Keyblade wielders, as in Roxas and the others came over after sensing that there was a disturbance in this world, arriving to help deliver the final blow, allowing them to hack apart the Demon Tower before it could escape, and they made sure to wipe out the Shadows that had gone into making it. Sombra didn't even get involved with this fight, there was no need, especially since it told her that the others were able to do things on their own and didn't need her to save them every time they fought their enemies, but it did mean that her brother was finally getting ready for the final hurdle.
"It's time, isn't it?" Roxas asked, as it had been a long eleven months since the declaration of war had been given, and while they were still a month away from the official date of the Keyblade War he also knew it was possible that Tenebris might be targeting other worlds just to annoy them, which would be the last few weeks leading into the war.
"Yes, it is." Sombra replied, pulling out a device from her pack, a gummi device that Chip and Dale had made, which the pair had called a 'Gummiphone', something she had helped them test a few times to be sure it worked, and once they had been completed they had been distributed to every major player in their massive army, to which she tapped in a command that was reserved for this day, "Attention to all warriors that are preparing for the Keyblade War: Tenebris has sent a Dark Tower, a powerful Pureblood Heartless, to attack Twilight Town, but while we have taken it down my brother's message is clear. The countdown to our war for the fate of the World has begun, so make your final preparations, rest while you can, and make yourselves ready for the fight of your lives."
Radiant knew that this wasn't what Sombra wanted, to go to war after everything that had happened back on their home world, but this was all they could do since her brother wanted to wage war with them, to which she wondered what the next couple of days held for her, her friends, and the worlds that they would no doubt visit before the war started.
