War: Stopping Hades Again

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

After meeting up with Hercules, and letting him know exactly what was going on with Hades this time around, the group found that he wanted to start from the top of Thebes, the city they were now in, though before they could do so a number of fireballs struck the market area in front of them. That was when a new Pureblood Heartless revealed itself to them, one that was black and hair what looked to be hair that was on fire, or part of it that was shaped to look like flames, and they were far too happy to spit fireballs at whatever was around them. Due to their spherical bodies Sombra went with Flame Cores for them, and, just like the rest of the Purebloods, these ones didn't have hearts when they were taken out, which was a little annoying in her mind, but she was used to that and focused on slashing them down. As she did that the others joined in, all while she used her magic to stop the statue of Hercules from collapsing on top of them, since a volley of their new foes took it down, but she and the others were more than willing to deal with the Flame Cores.

Once the group of enemies was taken care of they found that Hercules wanted to start checking out the rest of Thebes and that meant starting at the very top of the city, which seemed to be the highest peak that was available, causing Sombra to weave her magic around them for a time as she moved them to the area in question.

It wasn't long before Hercules pointed out the area that he wanted to start in, which seemed to be at the peak of the highest point in the entirety of the city, though as they moved Sora spotted Meg and Phil on Pegasus, who seemed to know that the city was in danger and that they were going to help in some of the other places. Much like before Phil told them to attack the Heartless, knowing that Sora and the rest of his group were the only ones that could permanently save Thebes, mostly due to the fact that the Keyblades could deal with the Heartless more than Hercules' fists could. When they reached their target area Sombra set them down and everyone started moving down the stone streets, helping those that needed assistance, as they trusted Hercules more than some random strangers, while fighting off the types of Heartless they had see so far. Such a thing brought them to an area with even more Flame Cores, which were having fun tearing through parts of Thebes while also setting other parts on fire, so while most of the group tore through them Sombra used her magic to extinguish the bits of flames.

While she did that, however, Sombra noticed Maleficent and Pete watching them from one of the roofs, and upon noticing that they had been spotted they fled, though they weren't the darker versions of themselves, rather they were the ones from this timeline, meaning the pair knew not to screw with them and had fled before a fight started.

"You know, it's a good thing you have the power to manipulate water, like Poseidon. Certainly helps us move around, since we won't have to worry about getting burned." Hercules commented, though as they descended into another portion of the city he discovered a pot shaped Heartless that Fluttershy decided to call a 'Popcat', since this type was a small thing and was more like a cat at times, and Sombra discovered that these were Emblem Heartless, allowing her to capture their hearts as they were brought down.

Of course there were plenty of Shadows, Air Soldiers, Large Bodies, Soldiers, and the two new types, giving them plenty of foes to fight this time around, as Sombra counted the exact number of enemies they fought each time a group attacked and discovered that each one was definitely larger than what they experienced during their first two adventures. There were a good number of people that were happy to be saved, in fact they offered a few potions and some ethers for the group, and there was even a girl who only let Hercules rescue her from where she was hiding, on top of a marble pillar. Everyone also saw a good amount of destruction as the Heartless tore through buildings, collapsing them on top of other parts of the city, though Sombra wielded her time magic to reverse the damage, enough to make sure people weren't crushed and allowed Hercules to save them. Once he was sure the area was clear Sombra would release her time magic and they would continue down the path that lead deeper and deeper into the city, allowing them to wipe out more and more Heartless while Sombra made sure to capture the hearts that were freed, because while Tenebris didn't have the same plan as the Organization she knew it was best to deny her brother any form of power.

Along the way they also discovered another new Heartless type, a small humanoid like the Soldier that was an archer, which they called Bizarre Archers, and Sombra snatched their hearts since they were Emblem Heartless, only for them to be caught off guard by a fourth new type that was an armored giant with a large axe, even though it was made of rocks.

"And a Rock Troll... you know, a new assortment of enemies is quite nice." Radiant remarked, because fighting the same old enemies constantly had gotten old and this was far better than she was expecting, even though at some point she knew that they would have to fight them with smaller groups, as they were able to crowd around it and bring it down after it tried to hit one of them with it's axe.

After bringing that down they found that the mountain they had landed on was now swirling with dark storm energy, which had to be the Titan made out of wind, to which Sombra surrounded them with her magic and they flew out of the city like they were fired from a cannon. She brought them to the base of the mountain path and everyone got running immediately as they crashed into more Heartless, while Hercules noted that a river they passed by was never as full as it was, causing a surge of elemental energy as Water Cores, black like the Flame Cores and having watery parts, attacked them. There were even a few spiky ones that looked like they were controlling the earth as well, so Earth Cores, which just made Sombra and the others take a moment to wonder how many more types of Heartless were out there, and why none of them had shown themselves in the past. This also made climbing the mountain that much harder, due to the fact that there were so many types of Heartless to contend with, so some of them focused on one type of damage while others simply struck them with their weapons.

It was actually quite amazing how often they had to stop and engage the Heartless that were coming after them, because it was like the Darkworld had turned against them and was ensuring that they had more enemies to fight, though both Sora and Sombra made sure that they paused every now and then to keep their energy up.

"I'm going to go up ahead and see if I can't stop Hades, or at least slow him down." Hercules commented, mostly because he knew that the group didn't need him fighting beside them all the time, so for the time being he called on Pegasus, who came without Meg or Phil on his back, and took off without delay, which was fine with the group as they stopped resting and just continued climbing up the mountain.

The best thing about visiting the world in this manner was that they were able to actually explore a larger area for once, as a good number of their visits to all of the other worlds had been like following a straight line through a maze, and if it wasn't for the immediate threat of Hades' plan Sombra was sure they would explore instead of saving the day. Fluttershy found all sorts of new ingredients for them to use in the future, since she was sure that Sombra would be able to use them at some point, which she agreed with while everyone tore through the Heartless, especially with the discovery that the Earth Cores could make a sand pit and could control it. Radiant knew this was different from the past, these Heartless were stronger and more skilled than the ones they had seen in the past, and Sombra was a little peeved by the fact that half of them were in the Emblem category, since she was sure that she could use the core type Heartless to improve her elemental powers to a new level. Even with that in mind they continued to move up the mountain, tearing through the enemies that stood in their way, while noticing how it continued to get darker and darker the higher they went, until the sunny area gave way for the storm and rain, meaning they were catching up with one of the four Titans.

Sure enough they discovered that the two headed Rock Titan above them, tossing chunks of the mountain at them, though as the group moved forward Sombra and the other Equestrians channeled their magic and blasted the rocks, shattering all of them into shards that landed on the ground below them. Sora and the others joined them, pushing the Rock Titan's rocks back, in fact Sora was able to rush up the stones and used the Kingdom Key to knock their foe backwards, forcing it to move away from them and continue up the storm-riddled region they were moving through. Eventually they reached the area that the Rock Titan stopped in, where they rushed into the air and separated, attacking the beast from both his feet and from all around it, this time not holding back in the slightest since this was a Titan in it's full power. Sombra even noticed something odd about the Kingdom Key, it was starting to manifest it's true power, likely because of the presence of two of the three Ancient Weapons, and that seemed to be a train that rained destruction on the Titan, something all seven of them were put on as Sora controlled the new weapon.

This allowed them to send the Rock Titan over the edge with a barrage of attacks, which seemed to manifest from the smoke and took on the form of fireworks of some kind, though as they landed on the ground, and the tracks vanished, everyone looked at Sora, who was looking at the Kingdom Key.

"So the Kingdom Key was far stronger than we assumed... maybe it's a fourth Ancient Weapon." Sombra remarked, as that barrage of attacks was beyond what the weapon had displayed in the past, in fact it was like the World knew they would need all the power they could get their hands on and was stacking the deck against Tenebris.

Sora rubbed the back of his head for a moment before they focused on the path that was ahead of them and discovered that the area on the other side was a golden staircase leading up to what appeared to be the gates of Olympus, a golden shining area that was beyond everything they had seen in the past. Such a thing was followed by yet another new Heartless, a humanoid type that was tall, like Hercules, but walked with hooves in place of feet, armor over their bodies, and a helmet to cover their heads, as there were at least twenty of the Satyrs, as Seras called them. Sure, they were stronger than some of the other Heartless they had fought in the past, but it was a good challenge for everyone as each of them dodged attacks and dealt their own in turn, and Sombra happily captured their hearts before they could escape. Following the destruction of the other Heartless, however, they found a surge of power high up in Olympus and everyone turned towards Sombra, who just nodded her head and wrapped her magic around them, rushing them up into the air as she zeroed in on the area that seemed to be the throne of Olympus.

Sure enough they found that someone was being imprisoned by the Lava and Ice Titans, while the Tornado one seemed to be watching from afar as Hades focused on some beings that seemed to be gods, or the gods of this world, and Hercules just smiled as they caught up with him.

Following that the Equestrians focused on the Ice Titan as Sora's group focused on the Lava Titan, each of them lashing out at the two large figures that were in front of them, while at the same time Sombra snapped her fingers and kept Hades on the outside of the arena, forcing him to watch what was going on. Their powers, strengthened from training for a whole year in preparation for the upcoming war, caused the Titans to stagger away from the central pillar, allowing Hercules to leap up on top of it and smash the top, freeing a shining man in a toga, who caused Hades to back up. Sombra found that the Titans were far weaker than she had originally assumed, as while they were definitely stronger than when they fought their lesser fragmented forms, back in the coliseum, and even the Tornado Titan seemed to understand that as he absorbed the other three, as it moved away to grab the Rock Titan, before returning to suck up the Ice and Lava Titans. Instead of engaging the beast, however, Hercules just grabbed the base of the Tornado Titan's body, swung it around, and then tossed it into the air, sending them into space where the Titans just exploded into a burst of energy, ending all of them in an instant.

Hades just stood there as Zeus freed the other gods from their bindings, where it was clear that he was suffering from just too much failure, and when he turned back to look at them it was clear that his fire was gone, he didn't want to fight Sombra or her friends again, not after what happened the last time they visited his world.

"Eighteen years, flushed down the drain... it's official, I hate you guys." Hades remarked, though at the same time Hercules did punch him in the face, stating that his attack was because of Hades' allies wrecking Thebes, causing the god to summon a surge of darkness as he faded away, telling them that he had a long memory, where Zeus hit him with a bolt of lightning as he warped back to his realm.

Sombra and the others smiled as they lowered their weapons, because this was a resounding victory over Hades, and they knew it was some good warmup for what the future held for them, causing everyone to look forward to whatever worlds they would be visiting in the coming days before the war for the fate of the World.
