Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
War: Battle on the High Seas
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs the group started to explore the island that they had found themselves on they also discovered that Jack was around one of the rocky corners, who beckoned for them to follow and said that they needed to find a ship, though Sombra knew that he wasn't the real Jack, he had magic that the real one lacked. Sombra suspected that this was an ally sent by Tia Dalma, as she seemed more than she really was, to assist them in tracking down a ship and return to the high seas, but first they had to swim through some caverns below the island to find their ship. Fortunately most of them were good swimmers, thanks to everything they had been through in Ariel's world, and while Vanitas wasn't very familiar with this Sombra found that he was able to mimic Sora quite well, allowing him to keep pace with everyone. Sombra also made sure to give everyone the ability to breath while underwater, since there was no telling how long they would be moving through the caverns, which the rest of the group was happy with as they got moving.
This allowed them to come into contact with another new Heartless, a serpent made of water, a 'Sea Sprite' to be exact, but Sora and his friends weren't even surprised by this discovery as they tore through them, finding that they could definitely attack normally while in the water, and Sombra made sure to capture the freed hearts as they followed the passage. The far more interesting thing was that they could use their magic while underwater, without hurting themselves or the area that was around them, though it did made eliminating all of the Heartless that much easier. The group passed by some wrecked ships, likely having crashed into some coral reefs or something, and even located an area that had some spilled treasure, piles of gold, though Sombra assured the others that it wasn't the cursed gold they helped the others with the last time they visited this world. There were also a lot of jellyfish in the way, though fortunately Fluttershy was able to speak with them, even while underwater, and was able to convince them to move for a time so she and her friends could pass through, which was yet another reason why Sombra was glad to have her around.
Eventually they reached a cavern that had a large chest inside it, though it seemed to be a trap since there were two prongs waiting for something to take the bait, just like an anglerfish, and when they got close the large blue Heartless fish came out to attack them, and from what they could tell the Heartless seemed confused on who to attack first.
This confusion, and the constant swimming around that the group did, caused the Heartless anglerfish, the 'Lightning Angler' as they decided to call it, to thrash around the cavern and damage some of the stones that were around them, eventually opening a hole for them to flee through if they wanted. At the same time Sora and the others brought down the Heartless, crushing the Lightning Angler before their might and allowed Sombra to snatch it's heart when it was released, though once that was done they headed into the new passage that had opened, as the chest was a total fake. The passage brought the group to what appeared to be the inside of the island's core, where everyone was allowed to walk and found that there was a decent sized ship, about the size of the Pearl, resting in front of them, designed in a way that almost matched Sora, like it was made for him and him alone. Sombra grinned a little as she realized what was going on, Tia Dalma was using the crabs and her fake Jack to make sure they had the tools they needed to sail around the Caribbean and do whatever they wanted, to give them a taste of a pirate's life and the freedom it offered.
Such a thing was confirmed as they found Fake Jack on the deck of the ship, who seemed amused by the fact that it had taken them so long to get here, but he was willing to hand the ship to Sora after some time, which was when they climbed aboard the vessel and Sombra smiled.
"This ship, it's powered by magic. Isn't it?" Sombra inquired, speaking to Fake Jack for a moment as the others started to make the ship ready to depart, as part of the rock wall was coming down and revealed a way for them to leave, which was what Sora happened to be aiming for as he took control of the ship.
"Yes, it is. Why do you ask?" Fake Jack asked, something that was followed by Sombra smiling as she raised her hands, letting one hold the power of Light and the other holding the power of Darkness, before bringing her hands down onto the deck, to which she empowered the ship with her magic.
"I've made it stronger and more resistant to harm... figured we would need it, since we've got company." Sombra said, as not a few moments after they left the island another ship formed out of some mist, like it had warped into the space near them, and sure enough it bared the colors of the Nobodies and was larger than their new ship.
"Indeed you do. I do not wish to parlay or play games... only to talk." a voice said, where Dark Luxord jumped down onto the deck of their ship and his disappeared, his emotions and expression telling them that he didn't want to do anything like what the group might have been expecting from him, though at the same time they found more Heartless Pirate Ships forming on the waters ahead of them, "My ally, the one you would call 'Dark Vexen' is only observing Davy Jones and the contents of the chest that controls him... something about his Replicas and perfecting them. Tenebris, on the other hand, just wants to have a bit of fun with you before the end... personally, I'd rather this entire thing be over so I can get back to the greater games that I'm actually interested in. This war is... pointless."
"You were willing to side with Xehanort... but not Tenebris?" Vanitas asked, though at the same time the rest of the group did what they did best, they accessed the power of the cannons, now fully powered by magic, and blasted all of their foes with the ship's power, but this made him wonder if more of their foe's forces might be getting ready to break from him.
"Honestly, the boy's a monster, a losing hand if ever I saw one. Don't get me wrong, he's strong, but his appetite for power will be his undoing." Dark Luxord replied, where he leaned back against the railing of the ship for a moment as Sora was pointed in the direction of Port Royal, like someone was planning on keeping them out of the final act of this battle, "I'd love to head back to my timeline and just move on with my life, but Tenebris has made it clear that anyone he calls into this world is to fight by his side and anyone who falls early will just be ripped back into this timeline."
"Meaning you can only go home when the war starts, because my brother will just tear more holes in space and time to get all of his allies back for the main event." Sombra remarked, as that meant damaging the very fabric of the World more and more often, something that was well within her brother's actions since he thought everything was his, just toys to use and then discard when he thought the time was right, or he had grown tired of his current toy.
As she thought about that, however, Sombra spotted the female bronze dragon figure on one of the tall rock pillars that the ship was passing by, who in turn happened to be staring at a portion of the sky in concern, which was when Sombra noticed a faint purple crack in the sky, like glass was slowly breaking.
"I take it that's a bad sign?" Fake Jack asked, as both he and the real Jack would have noticed the strangeness that was going on in the air, the fact that the sky was now breaking before their very eyes, because cracks like this weren't common, which was why he glanced at Sombra for a moment, which the rest of the group copied.
"Yeah, my idiot brother's damage to the fabric of the World is starting to starting to show... but if reality is starting to crack like this..." Sombra said, stopping herself for a moment as she turned towards Sora and directed him to move the ship in an entirely different direction than what they were heading in, because this was serious, especially since she could tell that the bronze dragon was worried about this turn of events and seemed to be informing someone else about the discovery she had just made, "It means we're running out of time, and that we'll have to cut our visit to the Caribbean short... there's a good chance that those cracks..."
Sora and the others barely had time to brace themselves as the ship stalled, which was when the water below them cracked open, as in the water cracked as if it was made of glass, and they fell through a purple and blue time portal, only to find that it dropped them out of the sky. Below them rested what appeared to be an ongoing battle between the Pearl and a deadly ship that looked like it might be the Flying Dutchman, causing Sombra to realize that her statement was already correct, the situation was getting worse, faster than even she realized. As they fell she used her powers to catch the ship and gently set it, and all of them, down in the water outside the massive maelstrom the ships were fighting in, even though Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Vanitas ended up falling down into where the battle was taking place. Sombra didn't have the time to process the strangeness of what was going on as the darkness took form on the water near them, allowing them to see that there were a lot of pirates and other ships on the water, but their focus was on what was taking shape nearby.
This was Tenebris' gift to them, a ship that was twice the size of their ship and with double the weapons, though as Sombra and the others got the ship moving Fake Jack turned into white crabs and slipped over the edge while Dark Luxord simply vanished, though for right now Sombra had everyone focus on the enemy ship. Sombra took control of the ship as she had the other Equestrians fire on the galleon, while at the same time utilizing Fluttershy's barrier skills to keep them safe from harm, since the larger ship had more weapons and they couldn't afford to be gunned down. Radiant and Seras focused on the weapons of their vessel and the abilities they had access to, the former using her bow to loose arrows at the Heartless that were aboard the galleon while the latter summoned a few blood spears to damage their main enemy. The enemy's own weapons caused them to back off from the maelstrom, which seemed to be the purpose of the ship, though Sombra made sure to pull it away from everyone else, giving them room to fight in while keeping their distance, even though she knew they had missed out on more of what this world had to offer.
Fortunately it didn't seem like the galleon had the power to take them head on, like it was a distraction, but Sombra hung back from the maelstrom, allowing everyone else to watch for the Pearl as she found the bronze dragon figure appear next to her, and the huffing she was doing indicated that she had used a lot of her power recently.
"Sombra, the situation is worsening. Time is fracturing at an alarming rate." the bronze figure stated, the strain in her voice confirming what Sombra thought was going on right now, though at the same time it looked like the Pearl, with her friends, had emerged from the maelstrom and was getting ready to face down another ship, "I've done all I can on my own, but I'm calling in the Time Wardens to help keep the damage contained. You need to stop Tenebris, and soon."
"Before those rifts become worse and time is sundered?" Sombra remarked, though she was being serious, because if these rifts were starting to form it meant they had less time before the Keyblade War started, in fact she was almost sure that this was her brother's intention, Tenebris was growing bored of waiting for the time he set to arrive and was going to try and force his enemies to come to him when they weren't ready.
"Yes... and before he causes a Dimensional Cataclysm. We recovered from the last one without anything major happening, but to have a second one could damage the universe as a whole." the figure said, where she turned to leave before the rest of the group noticed her, while at the same time Sombra noticed that Will, for some reason, was in control of the Flying Dutchman and was ordering it's crew to fire on another ship that seemed to be Beckett's flagship, "Sombra, please hurry... we're doing all we can, but I'd rather not get Her involved in this matter, not when she's busy with other things right now."
Sombra had no idea who the figure was talking about and didn't get a chance to ask as the dragon figure left, though as they caught up with Sora the boy seemed to nod his head, indicating that while he'd love to explore the Caribbean he also knew it was better to stop Tenebris, all while Sombra worried about what the future would throw at them next.
