Red dead redemption: the Legends
Chapter 3 questions and answers
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs Arthur roused from his nap, John greeted him with a playful jab, drawing a grunt from the groggy cowboy. Accepting the glass of water offered by Spike, they both eagerly downed its contents, refreshing themselves from their brief rest. "I could go for a beer," Arthur remarked, his longing for a cold drink evident in his tone. "No," John replied curtly, knowing that alcohol was not the solution to their current situation.
Spike settled in beside them, attempting to initiate conversation as he observed the items holstered at their sides. His curiosity piqued, he gestured towards their weapons, a hint of intrigue in his voice. "So, uh... what do you two do for a living?" he inquired, his gaze lingering on their holsters. Spike's curiosity was piqued as he pointed towards Arthur's gun, his eyes lingering on the weapon with interest. "What is that?" he asked, his tone filled with curiosity.
Arthur glanced at where Spike was pointing before turning his gaze back to the dragon. "It's my gun," he replied simply, setting his glass down with a clink before offering Spike a direct answer. "It's our weapon to protect ourselves from whoever tries to... give us a bad time," he explained, his voice carrying a hint of gravitas as he emphasized the importance of their firearms for self-defense.
As the door creaked open, Arthur and John turned their attention towards the sound, only to be greeted by the sight of a lively, pink-haired pony trotting into the room, humming a cheerful tune. "Oh, Twilight! You home?" she called out, her voice filled with excitement.
Spotting Spike, the pony paused in her tracks, her eyes widening in surprise. "Oh, Spiky! Have you seen Twilight? I was looking for a cookbook for... magical... cupcakes," she trailed off, her gaze shifting towards the two humans seated in the room.
With a sense of wonderment and trepidation, Pinkie Pie leaned in towards Spike, her voice barely above a whisper. "Are those humans?" she asked, her curiosity palpable. Spike nodded slowly, his heart pounding in his chest as he confirmed Pinkie Pie's suspicions. Before he could say anything else, however, Pinkie Pie's demeanor shifted in an instant, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she bounded over to Arthur and John, bursting into song to welcome them with open arms.
Caught off guard by the sudden burst of energy, Arthur and John exchanged bemused glances, unsure of how to react to the exuberant display unfolding before them. As Pinkie Pie's song filled the room. As Pinkie Pie's barrage of questions came to a halt, Spike attempted to interject, but Pinkie Pie's enthusiasm proved difficult to contain. However, Arthur took matters into his own hands, standing up and gently restraining the excitable pony.
"Wait, Pinky! Twilight is going to be here with Red. Keep it—" Spike began, but was cut off by Pinkie Pie's exuberant outburst of joy. Arthur's firm grip on Pinkie Pie brought her antics to a halt, and he fixed her with a steady gaze. "Are you calm?" he asked, his tone firm but not unkind.
Pinkie Pie nodded slowly, her eyes wide with surprise at the sudden interruption of her antics. "Good," Arthur said simply, releasing his hold on her and settling back into his seat. Pinkie Pie took a deep breath, visibly calming herself down before addressing Arthur and John with a friendly smile. "Sorry about that. My name is Pinkie Pie, and I'm glad to see more humans!" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm undiminished despite the brief interruption.
Arthur introduced himself and John to Pinkie Pie, gesturing towards his companion, who was still recovering from the loud welcome. "I'm Arthur, and this is John," Arthur said, indicating Marston, who had finally uncovered his ears and was now listening intently to the conversation. "So, what's going on?" Pinkie Pie asked Spike, her curiosity piqued by the mention of Twilight and Red Harlow. "Like I said, Pinky, Twilight and Red Harlow are on their way here," Spike replied, reiterating his earlier explanation.
As Spike spoke, John sat up straighter, his attention fully captured by the mention of the name "Red Harlow." A memory from his childhood flashed before his eyes, of himself and Arthur sitting next to each other as Dutch read them a book. As the memory unfolded in John's mind, he found himself transported back to a time when he and Arthur were just boys under Dutch's care.
"What do you boys want to read tonight?" Dutch asked, pulling out a selection of books. Arthur, ever relaxed even in his youth, reclined on his bed, contemplating the options. Meanwhile, John eagerly pointed to a red book, prompting a chuckle from Dutch.
Clearing his throat, Dutch read the title aloud: "Red Harlow and the Bandit Caves." The mention of Red Harlow, a legendary figure in their childhood tales, sparked a sense of nostalgia and excitement in both John and Arthur, as they eagerly anticipated another adventure within the pages of the book. "Red Harlow," both boys echoed in unison, their young voices filled with excitement and anticipation.
Taking their seats, John and Arthur listened eagerly as Dutch began to read from the book. As the tale of Red Harlow and his adventures unfolded before them, they were transported to a world of excitement, danger, and heroism, where anything seemed possible.
With each turn of the page, their imaginations soared, fueled by Dutch's vivid storytelling and the thrilling exploits of the legendary gunslinger. In that moment, the bond between the two boys grew stronger as they shared in the joy of adventure and the wonder of the unknown, all under the watchful guidance of their mentor, Dutch. As the name "Red Harlow" echoed in John's head, he couldn't shake the memories that flooded his mind. Lost in thought, he stared at the floor, his mind racing with fragments of the past.
Suddenly, John's reverie was interrupted by Arthur's wave of his hand and his exclamation, "Red Harlow?" John's outburst startled Pinkie and Spike, who exchanged surprised glances. "What? Red Harlow, the old story Dutch used to read to us?" Arthur continued, his tone incredulous as he tried to make sense of John's sudden outburst.
John's words jolted Arthur out of his amusement, and he regarded his friend with a mixture of surprise and skepticism. "Did you hear him? He said Red is coming here," John insisted, his tone serious as he tried to convey the significance of the revelation. Arthur couldn't help but chuckle at John's insistence. "Alright, Marston, now I know you're sick. The world's greatest bounty hunter is real?" he scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief.
However, Arthur's laughter faded as he noticed Spike's discomfort, the dragon's attempt to avoid the topic not going unnoticed. Sensing there might be more to the situation, Arthur's expression shifted, and he cleared his throat, his curiosity piqued. Arthur's laughter subsided as Spike's action sank in, his expression turning serious as he processed the implications. "Wait, he's real? I thought he was..." Arthur's sentence trailed off, his thoughts racing as he grappled with the revelation.
Before Arthur could voice his thoughts, the door swung open, revealing a new arrival—a purple pony with a horn, unmistakably Twilight Sparkle. She took in the scene before her, her eyes widening as she noticed Arthur and John. "Twilight, these are Arthur and John," Spike introduced, breaking the tense silence that had settled over the room. "They're humans, and they knew Red Harlow."
As Twilight entered, followed by the distinct sound of steps that were neither hooves nor the light trot of a pony, the atmosphere grew tense. The room fell silent as all eyes turned towards the newcomer, anticipation hanging thick in the air. And there he stood, in all his glory: Red Harlow. Arthur and John's simultaneous exclamation echoed through the room, reverberating with a mixture of disbelief and recognition.
Red remained silent, his gaze steady as he regarded the two humans before him. Adjusting the red cloth adorning his attire, he rested his hand on his belt, an aura of rugged determination emanating from him. Though bearing the marks of time in the form of scars, he still possessed the same air of resilience and strength as depicted in the tales.
As Arthur and John rose to their feet and extended their hands in greeting, a sense of awe and disbelief washed over them. "He is real," Arthur muttered, his voice filled with wonder, echoed by John's silent agreement. With a slow, almost reverent handshake, Arthur and John greeted Red Harlow, their eyes wide with disbelief as they stepped back, still trying to process the surreal encounter.
"I'm guessing you all know who I am?" Red's voice broke the stunned silence, his gaze steady as he addressed them.
"More than you maybe... but what... or even how the hell are you real?" Arthur's voice trembled slightly with incredulity as he struggled to articulate the questions racing through his mind. Twilight, sensing the gravity of the moment, quietly took out her notebook, ready to record the unfolding conversation as Arthur began to explain their confusion and disbelief.
Arthur's voice faltered as he struggled to articulate the weight of disbelief and confusion pressing upon him. "You're the real Red Harlow... you've been dead for years, you were the world's greatest bounty hunter! And had stories named after you that might possibly not be true but..." His words trailed off as he struggled to find coherence in the maelstrom of thoughts swirling within him.
Red's gaze remained steady, but a shadow seemed to flicker across his features as Arthur spoke. Without lifting his eyes, he posed a simple yet poignant question: "What year was it?" John and Arthur offered conflicting years, Red's expression remained unreadable, though a furrow formed between his brows. "What year would it be if I was dead?" he repeated, his tone even. "1899," Arthur asserted with certainty, while John countered with "1911," his voice tinged with equal conviction.
Red's gaze shifted between the two humans, a sense of puzzlement flickering in his eyes. "How odd these people are from a farther time?" he mused inwardly. The implications of their words began to sink in. If what they claimed was true, it defied all logical explanation. No way Red would have survived that long. Yet, the undeniable truth of their presence begged the question: why were they here?
Arthur and John exchanged a meaningful glance, silently acknowledging the gravity of the situation. Meanwhile, Twilight continued to jot down notes, her focus unwavering. Pinkie Pie, ever the embodiment of cheerfulness, trotted up to Red with a bright smile, oblivious to the weight of the conversation unfolding around her.
"Hi Red! It's good to see you back in Ponyville!" Pinkie greeted with her usual exuberance. "These ponies know you... how long have you been here?" John inquired, his voice tinged with curiosity. "Almost a year," Red replied simply, offering no further elaboration. The weight of the revelation hung heavy in the air, and John and Arthur lapsed into a contemplative silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Pinky, undeterred by the solemn atmosphere, tapped Red's leg with a cheerful invitation. "Hey, wanna get a cupcake?" she chirped.
Red nodded gratefully, welcoming the distraction. Sensing his need for a moment alone, he offered a brief apology to Twilight, who nodded understandingly. As Red and Pinkie departed, Twilight trotted over to join the two cowboys, her expression thoughtful as she mulled over the implications of Red's unexpected return and the arrival of these enigmatic visitors from another time. "Well, I guess you know who he is. Why don't I introduce myself? Hi, my name is Twilight Sparkle," she said, extending a hoof in greeting.
"Arthur."
"John."
They exchanged introductions before settling back down, prepared for more questions. Twilight pulled out her notes and explained that their ruler, Princess Celestia, was eager to welcome the humans and learn more about them. She added that they would be expected to meet with Celestia at the appropriate time. Arthur and John, though slightly annoyed by the interruption, nodded in acknowledgment and told Twilight to proceed with her questions. They were ready to provide answers and see where this unexpected encounter would lead them.
The cave lay silent, veiled in darkness, save for the flickering flame of a torch carried by a single hooded pony. As the pony advanced deeper into the cavern, its hoofsteps echoed softly against the rocky walls. Upon reaching a shrine nestled within the depths of the cave, the pony lowered its head in prayer, invoking blessings upon its master.
Gradually, more figures emerged from the shadows, their forms cloaked in darkness as they converged around the central figure. Among them, a dark red pony stood apart, observing the proceedings with an air of solemnity.
At length, the dark red pony stepped forward, its voice cutting through the hushed atmosphere of the cave. The hooded figure's words hung heavy in the air, a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty swirling among the gathered members. As the elder one approached, her presence commanded respect, casting a long shadow over the assembly.
"More humans have arrived," she murmured, her voice carrying the weight of ages past. "Yet whether they possess the power to bring him back remains to be seen." The members looked up at her with a mixture of reverence and trepidation, awaiting her command.
The cavern echoed with the fervent cries of the gathered ponies, their devotion to their master unwavering. As the elder one issued her command, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation, each member poised to carry out their orders with unwavering determination.
With a flash of magic, they vanished into the ether, leaving behind only the echo of their fervent chants. Alone in the cavern, the elder one gazed upon the statue with a mixture of reverence and longing, her eyes alight with the fervor of a zealot awaiting the dawn of a new age.
