Since finding out that Twilight is what's known as an adult foal, and that she longs for somepony to be her mommy, Princess Celestia has taken it upon herself to fill the role for her former student. It helps that in doing so it enables her to act on her desires to be a mother in her own right.

Having already introduced a couple of ponies (and even non-ponies) to Twilight's secret, Princess Celestia seems satisfied that she can be what Twilight needs her to be. And Twilight appears to be quite content to be babied and mothered by the pony she's always looked up to.

However, as Celestia continues this unusual bond with Twilight, concerns start to creep up. Alerted to the possibility that Twilight's desires are more complex than they seem, the older alicorn will eventually have to decide what's truly in Twilight's best interest and whether they can keep up their roles.
