Continuing on the road back to Petalburg City the girls make a brief stop in Mauville City. Today their travels bring them somewhere new.

“I can’t believe we did not know there was a training center here, “Turquoise said.

“And exactly why are we here?” Aqua asked.

“To train my pokemon obviously,” Turquoise said.

“Just don’t go too hard on them and remember to take breaks when needed,” Fluttershy said.

“We will,” Turquoise said before going inside.

“Wait for me,” Aqua said before catching up to Turquoise. The two of them were now in a training area with a bunch of machines. Suddenly a muscular man who reminded Turquoise a bit of Don Frank from back in Kanto and Johto approached them.

“Welcome ladies, what kind of workout are you looking for today?” Don Frank asked.

“I’m here to train my team to become stronger,” Turquoise said.

“Me too,” Aqua said.

“Show me what you have and I will recommend some exercises,” Don Frank said.

“Come on out everyone,” Turquoise and Aqua said at the same time as they called out all of their pokemon. Don Frank took a look at them and had the perfect workout in mind for each of them.

“Let’s start with Beldum, follow me please,” Don franks said before having Turquoise and Beldum follow him. They soon reached what looked like a punching bag with a target on it. “This device was especially designed for a pokemon like Beldum to gain experience while also strengthening the power of take down. Give it a try.

“Beldum use take down. Beldum charged at the punching bag and nailed the target before being repelled back. They kept at it and after the seventh take town Beldum began to glow which meant it was evolving. A few moments later a Metang was floating where Beldum once was. Turquoise used her pokedex to check metang’s stats and was impressed that it also learned Confusion and Metal Claw.

“Time to let Metang rest and move on to Dewott,” Don Frank said before Turquoise recalled Metang. The girls were now by a waterfall connected to a wave pool. Both Dewott and Marshtomp were doing this one. Don Frank set the waves to normal for a light pace. Both of them jumped down the waterfall before landing in the pool and doing freestyle strokes. Dewott and Marshtomp were getting into it. Suddenly both Vulpix were playfully wrestling each other which accidentally set the machine from normal to max speed which caused the wave pool to speed the current up. Both Dewott and Marshtomp were swimming for their lives to fight the current which caused Dewott to suddenly zip through and above it before throwing one of his scalchops to hit the off button which stopped the flow.

“What was that move?” Aqua asked.

“That was Aerial Ace,” Don Frank said, impressed with the results of the training.

“Awesome, let's see if Marshtomp learned any awesome moves too, “Aqua said before using her pokedex to check Marshtomp’s stats. Aqua noticed that protect and Water Gun were replaced with Rock slide and Water Pulse.

“So what’s next?” Turquoise asked. Before Don Frank could answer a loud noise was heard which had the girls running towards the source of it which was the battlefield where a boy with a Swampert and a Gallade was standing triumphantly while a Magmar and Breloom were knocked out.

“Both Magmar and Breloom are unable to battle, Swampert and Gallade are the winners which means victory goes to Hiro, “The ref said while pointing his left flag at the boy.

“Too easy,” Hiro said before throwing some Sitrus berries to his two pokemon to eat and recover some strength. “Now who is going to be my next victim?

“I will,” Turquoise said before Aqua noticed she was gone briefly before she appeared on the opposite side of the battlefield.

“Uh Turquoise, are you sure you want to battle him? He looks quite strong,” Aqua asked.

“True but this could be just the workout my other two pokemon need,” Turquoise said.

“What’s your name cutie?” Hiro asked.

“It’s Turquoise,” Turquoise said.

“Well Turquoise, here is how I do things, this will be a double battle so each of us will be using two pokemon,” Hiro said.

“I was hoping you would say that, “Turquoise said before calling out Grovyle and Floragoto, which did not impress Hiro. Soon the ref took his position again..

“This will be a double battle between Hiro and Turquoise, the battle will be over when both pokemon on one side are unable to battle,” The Ref said with both sides in agreement. “Let the battle begin.

“Floragoto use seed bomb on Swampert and Grovyle use quick attack on Gallade. Floragoto unleashed seed bomb which was heading straight for swampert while Grovyle charged at Gallade.

“Swampert use ice beam and Gallade use Psycho Cut. swampert fired an ice beam towards Floragoto and froze the seeds while Psycho Cut shattered them while still heading for Floragoto.

“Grovyle block that and use assurance. Grovyle took the hit and struck back at gallade with twice the power which resulted in a lot of damage to both sides.

“Not bad but not good enough, Swampert use Ice Punch and Gallade use X-scissor on Floragoto. Both swampert and Gallade double teamed Floragoto with ice punch and X-scissor. Suddenly Grovyle unleashed a bunch of energy vines that wrapped around Swampert before sapping its energy which allowed Grovyle to recover a lot of his strength.

“Was that Mega Drain?” Aqua asked.

“No, that was Giga Drain,” Fluttershy said. Once the vines released swampert it fainted.

“Swampert is unable to battle,” the ref said. Back with gallade, he was able to land a successful hit but floragoto managed to endure it which activated overgrow.

“Our turn to attack, Floragoto use magical leaf and Grovyle use Slam. While grovyle attempted to hit gallade with his leaf, Floragoto unleashed magical leaf from behind him.

“Like that will work, Gallade use Aerial ace. Gallade pushed back on Grovyle which resulted in a deadlock.

“Now flip over Gallade. Grovyle managed to flip over Gallade and left him to take the full brunt of magical leaf which resulted in enough damage to make gallade faint.

“Gallade is unable to battle, grovyle and Floragoto are the winners, which means victory goes to Turquoise,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“We did it, “Turquoise said with excitement.

“I concede defeat, I was not expecting to lose so easily, “Hiro said.

“Your two pokemon were quite powerful,” Turquoise said.

“Well see you around, “Hiro said before leaving. Aqua decided to do some training with her Zigzagoon and after the first few machines he began to glow and was growing bigger while his body began to change shape. Soon a Linoone now stood where Zigzagoon once was.

“Congrats on your Zigzagoon finally evolving,” Turquoise said. Aqua kept training linoone and soon it was time for him to rest. Aqua used her Pokedex to see which moves linoone had.

“Awesome, his current moveset is Slash, Pin Missile, Headbutt, and Take Down, “Aqua said.

“I think that is enough training for one day,” Turquoise said.

“Agreed, you and your pokemon put in a lot of hard work today, so rest up and come back again soon,” Don Frank said. The girls left and went to the pokemon center where both Turquoise and Aqua had their pokemon healed.

“So how much stronger did your team get Turquoise? “Fluttershy said.

“We made some good progress, “Turquoise said before explaining. Beldum evolved into Metang, Grovyle learned both slam and Giga drain, Floragoto learned U-turn and worry seed, and lastly, Dewott learned Aerial ace.

“Hey don’t forget, Marshtomp grew stronger too and Zigzagoon finally evolved,” Aqua said.

“You think it will be enough for your next gym challenge?” Fluttershy asked.

“No guarantee but that’s why we shall continue training while on the road, “Turquoise said.

“So where do we go from here to reach Petalburg City?” Aqua asked. Turquoise pulled out the pokenav and looked it up.

“Looks like our best bet is Verdanturf Town which is west of Mauville City,” Turquoise said.

“Wouldn’t it be easier to just go back the way we came and return to Slateport City? “Aqua asked.

“Oh sure, if you want us to reach our destination in a month, look here,” Turquoise said before showing them the red line over the sea route. “It saids here the harbor in Slateport City is closed for repairs so the sea route is out, plus there is a tunnel leading to Rustboro City which makes Verdanturf Town a short cut.

“Ok, Verdanturf Town it is then,” Aqua said.

“We will set off tomorrow, “Fluttershy said. Turquoise decided to take a walk and as she did she ran into Hiro.

“We meet again, Turquoise, " Hiro said.

“What brings you around here?” Turquoise asked.

“Just picked up my pokemon,” Hiro said before continuing. “I forgot to properly introduce myself earlier, I'm Hiro and I'm entering the Hoenn League.

“Cool, so am I,” Turquoise said.

“How many badges do you have?” Hiro asked.

“I got four,” Turquoise said.

“Four badges, with a team that weak? How did you do it?” Hiro asked.

“Strategy,” Turquoise said before asking how many badges Hiro had.

“I got five, " Hiro said while also showing her his badges. He had the same ones Turquoise did except for one that looked like two silver circles connected by a slim bar.

“Which badge is that one? “Turquoise asked, referring to the one she did not have.

“That is the balance badge, courtesy of the Petalburg City Gym,” Hiro said.

“You already beat the gym there?” Turquoise asked in surprise.

“Did so a week ago,” Hiro said.

“So where are you heading next?” Turquoise asked.

“That is my secret,” Hiro said before taking his leave. Turquoise decided to return to her friends who were waiting for her.

“There you are Turquoise, where were you? “Aqua asked

“I ran into Hiro and we talked for a bit,” Turquoise said.

“What did you talk about?” Fluttershy asked.

“The Hoenn league, did you know he was also competing,” Turquoise said.

“Looks like you got yourself another rival,” Aqua said. Just as she said that the tv in the Pokemon center was playing some coverage of the last contest which Rolland dominated..

“And was coverage of Rolland’s landslide victory at the Nightshade town contest, for all you coordinators out there, the next contest will be in the peaceful Verdanturf Town in two weeks,” Vivian said.

“What are the odds, “Aqua said.

“I know right, I only wanted to go there to save us time but now we have to go,” Turquoise said.

“We will set off tomorrow,” fluttershy said. The girls decided to call it a night.

The next day the girls were all packed and ready to set out. As soon as they exited the Pokemon center Don Frank was waiting for them.

“I forgot to give this to you girls, " Don Frank said before handing them a flier for a battle competition that was being hosted by the Hoenn training center association. “We hold competitions like these every few months or so and this year the prize is a collection of evolution stones.

“Sounds awesome, but where is it?” Aqua asked.

“In Foothill Town which is on the way to Verdanturf Town,” Don Frank said.

“We will check it out,” Turquoise said.

“I wish you girls the best of luck on your travels, “Don Frank said before leaving. The girls proceeded to head towards the western exit. What kind of adventure awaits our heroes next? Stay tuned, As the journey continues.
