After days of walking our heroes finally arrived in Fortree City. Aqua was not convinced since all she could see was a forest.

“Are you sure we are in the right place?” Aqua asked.

“This is definitely Fortree City, look,” Turquoise said, referring to the treehouses and huts.

“I must say I am a big fan of the design choice,” Fluttershy said.

“According to the pokenav the residents of the city still live in those tree houses, it’s an old tradition,” Turquoise said. After exploring the city a little they saw that even the pokemon center was built into a tree. The girls decided to ask around for the location of the gym and the gym leader.

“See that temple off in the distance, that’s the Fortree City Gym,” A man said while pointing towards what looked like a pyramid.

“Can you also tell us about the Gym leader?” Aqua asked.

“Winona is a specialist in flying-type pokemon and an avid lover and worshiper of the sky,” The man said.

“Thank you for the info,” Turquoise said.

“Happy to help,” The man said before moving on with his day. The girls were walking towards the gym which was quite a distance.

“So Turquoise, what is your plan for this battle?” Aqua asked.

“Well my Ninetails should be fine since Ice-types have an advantage against flying-types but as for the rest of my team I may have to pardon the pun, wing it,” Turquoise said.

“And it’s not just about type advantage, Flying-types are very well known for being the fastest of all pokemon-types,” Fluttershy said.

“Not to mention how none of your pokemon are capable of flight, well there is Metang who levitates but even that can’t reach the heights we are talking about,” Aqua said. They kept walking and soon were in front of the gym. “So how do we get inside?”

“I think we are supposed to climb these stairs to the top,” Fluttershy said, referring to the stairs in front.

“Well then let’s get climbing,” Turquoise said. The girls started climbing the stairs and after about ten minutes they were only halfway up.

“How much longer until we reach the top? It feels like we've been at this forever, “Aqua asked.

“Halfway there, and it’s only been ten minutes,” Fluttershy said.

“Come on ladies, we can’t stop now,” Turquoise said, still full of energy.

“How can she still be this energetic?” Aqua asked.

“Must be the gym battle, now let’s hurry before she decides to leave us in the dust,” Fluttershy said. After ten more minutes the girls finally arrived at the entrance where a man was waiting for them.

“Welcome to the Fortree gym, I’m Zachery the assistant,” Zachery said.

“I’m Turquoise and I came to challenge the Gym leader,” Turquoise said.

“Well Turquoise you're in luck, because Winona just got back ten minutes ago,” Zachery said before showing the girls in. After climbing more stairs they arrived at the battlefield which had two towers that were lift platforms. In the middle of the battlefield was a woman with lavender hair and eyes wearing a periwinkle outfit with a feather motif.

“Which one of you is my next challenger?” The woman asked.

“I am,” Turquoise said.

“I’m Winona, the gym leader,” Winona said.

“I’m Turquoise,” Turquoise said. Zachery showed Aqua and Fluttershy to the bench to watch before explaining the towers to Turquoise.

“These towers are actually lifts since you and winona will be battling in the air,” Zachery said. Both turquoise and winona got on their respective platforms and were then elevated to the top of the towers. Before zachery could explain the rules, winona took a position where she was kneeling with her arms crossed and her eyes closed.

“Oh great sky above, I ask that you grant us wings, grant us your power to conquer even the stormiest of winds, and please guide us to your great blue world and let us share in its infinite power and majesty,” Winona said, which had turquoise and the girls confused.

“What was that? Some kind of pre battle ritual?” Aqua asked.

“Sounded more like a prayer of some kind,” Fluttershy said.

The gym battle between winona the Fortree gym Leader and Turquoise from Pallet Town will now commence, each trainer will use three pokemon and the battle will be over when all three of either side’s pokemon are unable to battle, only the challenger is allowed to Substitute pokemon, “Zachery said. With the rules covered winona pulls out her first pokemon.

“Altaria, I choose you,” Winona said as she called out her Altaria.

“What pokemon is that?” Aqua asked before pulling out her pokedex.

“Altaria, The Humming Pokemon, On sunny days, it flies freely through the sky and blends into the clouds. It sings in a beautiful soprano,” The pokedex said.

“So your first choice is an Altaria, in that case, Go Ninetails,” Turquoise said as she called out ninetails who soon covered the battlefield in snow thanks to snow warning.

“Turquoise is starting out strong since not only does Ninetails have the advantage but is also immune to dragon-type moves thanks to his Fairy-typing,” Fluttershy said.

“Let the battle begin,” Zachery said.

“Altaria use Dual Wingbeat. Altaria dived at ninetails with her wings glowing and covered in wind. Turquoise remained stoic.

“Ninetails use ice beam. Ninetails unleashed an ice beam which was heading straight for Altaria.

“Use Cotton Guard. Altaria wrapped her wings around herself which caused a cocoon of white cotton to envelope her and reduce the damage from ice Beam greatly since Altaria’s defense stat was raised drastically. Once the cocoon vanished Altaria looked unharmed. “Now use Flamethrower. Altaria unleashed a Flamethrower which took Turquoise by surprise.

“Quick dodge it. Ninetails quickly dodged the Flamethrower.

“I am fully aware that ice-type moves are Altaria’s greatest weakness so I taught her Flamethrower as a countermeasure. So what now?” Winona asked.

“Ninetails use Ice Beam on the battlefield. Winona was a bit shocked by what turquoise said but remained composed since she was now curious to see what Turquoise was up to. Ninetails unleashed his Ice Beam on the battlefield which not only froze it but also caused a bunch of big ice pillars to form. “Return Ninetails. After recalling Ninetails everyone awaited Turquoise’s next choice. “Go Dewott. Dewott landed on the battlefield and despite all the ice remained standing.

“Altaria use Dragon Pulse. Altaria fired a sphere of bluish green energy which Turquosie was prepared for.

“Use the pillars to dodge that. Dewott used the pillars as footholds to climb higher.

“I get it now, Turquoise’s used ice Beam to create some footholds for her other pokemon to use to reach Winona’s pokemon,” Fluttershy said.

“But will that be enough? “Aqua asked.

“We shall see,” Fluttershy said. Altaria kept on eye on Dewott’s movements while awaiting Winona’s next command.

“Altaria use Flamethrower. Altaria unleashed Flamethrower at where Dewott was.

“Dewott use Aqua jet to go higher. Dewott covered himself in water before using it to propel himself even higher.

“Stay on your guard Altaria. Altaria was a bit disoriented since Dewott was nowhere to be seen.

“Now Dewott use Razor Shell with all you got. Just then Dewott was coming in fast with his two blades of water crossed.

“We won’t lose that easily, Altaria use Dual Wingbeat. Altaria was flying at Dewott equally as fast. The two of them kept exchanging blows for a good minute and then when their final exchange landed on both ends they both plummeted to the ground and were revealed to have fainted.

“Both Dewott and Altaria are unable to battle which means this battle is a draw,” Zachery said while crossing his flags.

“What just happened?” Aqua asked.

“You see both Dewott and Altaria put everything they had into that final exchange which resulted in both being knocked out,” Fluttershy said.

“Return Altaria,” Winona said as she recalled Altaria. “ You battled gracefully now rest.

“Return Dewott,” Turquoise said as she recalled Dewott. “You did your best, now rest up. Turquoise awaited Winona’s next pokemon.

“Pelipper, I choose you, “Winona said as she called out her Pelipper which once again had Aqua pull out her pokedex.

“Pelipper, The Water Bird pokemon, It protects its young in its beak. It bobs on waves, resting on them on days when the waters are calm,” Aqua’s pokedex said. Turquoise took a moment to think and then made her choice.

“Go Metang,” Turquoise said as she called out Metang.

“Pelipper use Tailwind. Pelipper began flapping hard which caused a powerful gust of wind to blow behind Winona's side of the battlefield. “Now use Aerial Ace. Pelipper looped around and then struck Metang with increased speed. Fortunately Metang survived and barely took any damage.

“Now Metang use Psychic. Metang’s eyes glowed blue and it caught Pelipper in it’s energy field and slammed it on the ground hard.

“Pelipper, get up and use water pulse. Pelipper got back up and fired a sphere of water at Metang who took it but survived. “Now use Hydro Pump. Pelipper unleashed hydro pump and rather than tank this one turquoise had another idea.

“Metang use psychic and send it right back. Metang managed to stop the hydro pump before rebounding it at Pelipper who took a lot of damage but not enough to faint.

“I will admit your Metang is quite tenacious but so are we, Pelipper use Water Pulse. Pelipper fired another Water pulse which Turquoise was ready for.

“Dodge and use Metal Claw. metang dodged Water pulse and flew at Pelipper before slashing it with a metal coated arm which was enough to finish Pelipper off.

“Pelipper is unable to battle, Metang is the winner,” Zachery said while pointing his right arm at Turquoise.

“Return Pelipper, “Winona said as she recalled Pelipper. “You were great now, rest, I must say I'm impressed with how far you got in our gym battle.

“Thanks,” Turquoise said.

“But now this is where the real fight begins, Swellow I choose you,” Winona said as she called out a swallow-like creature with teal and orange coloring.

“So that's a Swellow huh,” Turquoise said before pulling out her pokedex which revealed the same creature but with dark blue and red coloring instead.

“Swellow, The Swallow Pokemon, It circles the sky in search of prey and dives sharply to catch its target,” Turquoise’s pokedex said.

“Let’s keep going, Metang, “Turquoise said.

“Swellow use Supersonic. Swellow unleashed a loud screech that was able to confuse Metang. “Now use Brave Bird. Swellow flew upward while covered in orange fire before diving down and then getting covered in electricity.

“Metang use Take Down. Metang despite being confused was able to do takedown and began charging at Swellow. Both moves collided and while Swellow took some damage it was still able to win which resulted in Metang being knocked out and hitting the ground.

“Metang is unable to battle, Swellow is the winner,” Zachery said while pointing his left flag at Winona. Suddenly Swellow looked like it took more damage.

“Why does Swellow look like it took damage?” Aqua asked.

“That would be the recoil from using Brave Bird,” Fluttershy said.

“Go Ninetails. Ninetails came back out and still looked ready to go.

“Swellow use Aerial Ace. Swellow looped and charged at ninetails who took it since he could not see where Swellow was.

“Ninetails use moon blast. Ninetails fired a pink blast of energy at Swellow which did not faze winona.

“Swellow use hyper Beam. Swellow fired an orange beam which collided with the Moon Blast. Both moves pushed against each other until hyper beam won in the end.

“Quick dodge that. Ninetails ran as fast as he could and tried to dodge but the beam was strong enough to break through the ice pillars which managed to lessen the blow. Turquoise needed a plan and soon came up with something after seeing the positions of what was left of the ice pillars.

“Well Turquoise you did your best but now it’s time to end this, Swellow use Brave Bird. Swellow did the same as before but this time turquoise was ready.

“Ninetails use Dazzling Gleam. Ninetails unleashed a flash of pink energy which was refracted and focused into a powerful beam that nailed Swellow enough to send it out of the sky and crashing into the battlefield. Once the dust settled it was revealed that Swellow fainted.

“Swellow is unable to battle, Ninetails is the winner, which means Turquoise wins the battle,” Zachery said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“We did it ninetails, we won,” Turquoise said as she got down along with Winona. Once they were down, Winona recalled Swellow and approached Turquoise.

“That was a most excellent battle, despite being at a disadvantage you were able to overcome my flying-types in your own way, so as proof of your victory, I present you with the feather badge,” Winona said before giving Turquoise a silver badge that looked like a wing.

“So where are you three off to next?” Winona asked.

“Hopefully the next contest or gym battle,” Turquoise said.

“In that case then your next stop should be Mossdeep City to challenge the Mossdeep gym,” Winona suggested.

“Where is Mossdeep City?” Aqua asked. Turquoise looked it up and gave her verdict.

“Far, very far,” Turquoise said while showing Aqua and Fluttershy. “Currently we are here and all the way over here on this island is Mossdeep City.

“That’s quite the distance,” Fluttershy said.

“Not to mention we need to find a boat to get across the sea, “Aqua siad.

“You should be able to find one in Lilycove City, “Winona said.

“Then it’s decided,” Turquoise said. And so with her sixth gym badge now acquired, Turquoise is one step closer to making the hoenn league, what adventures await our heroes next? Stay tuned, as the journey continues.
