The Bright Side of Things

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A few days went by since Suri was defeated. Within that time her parents had her stuff donated to the thrift store and arranged a meeting with Principal Cadence for Suri’s removal from Crystal Prep. As for Turquoise things were now looking bright now that the last major obstacle in her life has been removed. As soon as she arrived and entered the school, she saw Suri with her parents looking quite upset.

“I bet you are loving this, aren't you freak?” Suri said.

“A little,” Turquoise said, knowing that Suri can’t do anything.

“Why you little,” Suri said while trying to attack her only for her parents to pull on her arms.

“Let’s go young lady, you have a flight to catch in five hours,” Suri's mom said.

“And you better enjoy the sunshine and warmth while you can because this will be the very last time you are going to see or feel it,” Suri’s dad said. The two dragged her into Cadence’s office. The atmosphere was quite tense before Cadence broke the ice.

“Are you absolutely sure you want to do this, Mr. and Mrs., Polomare?” Cadence asked.

“We are,” Suri’s mom said.

“Your school constantly failed to administer proper punishment for all the bad things Suri has done,” Suri’s dad said.

“While I agree Suri deserves punishment, I have been forced to use the power to expel students one too many times now and I don’t want to use it again, “Cadence said.

“And what makes Suri any different than all the other students who were expelled?” Suri’s mom asked.

“Nothing, I am just done with expulsions for the rest of the school year,” Cadence said.

“And that’s why we want to remove Suri from your school. Since you’re not going to do what’s necessary to punish her then it's up to us to do it,” Suri’s dad said.

“Come on, Don't I have a say in this?” Suri asked before her parents gave her the death stare.

“You forfeited your say when you decided to be the things, we most certainly did not raise you to be, “Suri’s mom said.

“Besides our decision is final, you are no longer our daughter, and that plane ticket will be the last thing we ever give you,” Suri’s dad said.

“You can’t really mean that?” Suri pleaded.

“We do, you're not worth keeping around anymore and there is no room in our home for cheating monsters,” Suri’s dad said.

“I don’t know where we went wrong but now, we are doing what needs to be done so you don’t embarrass us anymore,” Suri’s mom said. Principal Cadence was quite patient with them until she caught their attention.

“Suri, would you mind waiting outside while I speak to Marianne and Stanford,” Principal Cadence said in her sweet voice.

“Oh no I’m not going anywhere, I know what this is about already,” Suri said.

“She said get lost, you worthless piece of excrement, “Suri’s dad said before she left crying. Once it was just the three of them, Cadence began speaking.

“Now I know I have no right to butt into your family drama, but is all this hostility really necessary?” Cadence asked.

“Why not? She is no longer our daughter, and we are done wasting our time on her,” Suri’s mom said.

“Even so, the rude remarks and insults are quite unnecessary,” Cadence said.

“Why should we care, we already disowned her and frankly we are no longer under any obligation to care for her or take responsibility for her bad behavior,” Suri’s dad said.

“Listen I'm just saying this because I've seen this happen one too many times already. If you keep doing this to her, she will come back for revenge and in a case like yours it will be fatal, “Cadence warned.

“And how exactly will she be coming back? The flight to Juno is a one-way trip and with no money or phone she won’t get too far," Suri's dad said.

“Plus, Alaska is freezing cold year-round so she will most likely die before we do,” Suri’s mom said. “Now enough of this can we just sign the papers and get out of here. Cadence reluctantly agreed to Suri’s removal from her school and placed the paperwork for it on her desk.

Meanwhile outside the office Suri was sitting and crying her eyes out. Fleur was passing by when she saw her and decided to speak with her since this was going to be the very last chance to do so. Suddenly Suri noticed her.

“Are you here to rub salt in my already open wounds? “Suri asked.

“No, I'm here to talk since I know it’s going to be the very last time we do,” Fleur said.

“What’s there to talk about? My parents disowned me, the student population is practically celebrating me leaving, and to top it off, I'm being deported to a frozen wasteland with nothing but the clothes on my back which won’t be providing much warmth for me,” Suri said.

“And who’s fault is that?” Fleur asked.

“That freak Turquoise obviously,” Suri said, which caused Fleur to slap her own forehead with how dumb Suri’s incorrect answer was.

“No, it’s yours, you had plenty of chances to try and get to know her but instead you constantly belittled her and bullied her,” Fleur said.

“What’s there to know? She is a disgusting boy who thinks dressing like a girl will grant him the same privileges and rights as us,” Suri said.

“You are absolutely wrong, Turquoise is very kind and caring, not to mention generous. Did you know she was considering inviting you to her mansion for her party despite everything you put her through,” Fleur said.

“I bet that’s because her parents were forcing her to do so,” Suri said.

“They had asked her to consider it, but they were quite respectful of her reason why she didn’t when she told them about how you declined in the rude way that you did,” Fleur said.

“My only regret is how I can’t do anything else to her now,” Suri said, which showed Fleur that Suri was completely unredeemable.

“That’s your only regret? That you can’t hurt my friend anymore, Suri Polomare. I hope you freeze to death in that frozen hell known as Alaska,” Fleur said before leaving. Soon Suri’s parents came out and took her to the car for her final drive in California and her last glimpse at the sun. The drive lasted forty-five minutes and soon they were at the airport. Unfortunately for Suri things were slow so getting through TSA was a lot quicker than normal especially with no luggage or carry ons. Suri’s parents were there to personally escort her to the gate and stayed with her so she could not make a run for it. Once the boarding call had been announced her parents escorted her to her seat.

“Are you two on the flight?” The stewardess asked.

“No, we are just making sure our worthless ex daughter does not try to run from her punishment,” Suri’s dad said.

“Don’t worry she won’t be going anywhere, “The Stewardess assured as they left. Once they were off the plane and the other passengers boarded. It was time to take off. After the safety demonstration the plane began moving and once it took off Suri got one last look at California from the air before the plane went above the clouds which blocked out the view of the land beneath her.

Meanwhile back at Crystal Prep it was lunchtime and most of the students were celebrating Suri’s removal from the school. Turquoise was not sure if she would be happy about this or not.

“Come on love, this is meant to be a celebration,” Haruka said.

“Is this even, right?” Turquoise asked.

“Normally I would be with you, but I spoke to Suri myself before she left. She did not learn a thing and prove to me she was completely unredeemable so it’s more like good riddance,” Fleur said.

“Ok I guess it’s too late now,” Turquoise said. The day continued and things were looking up. Lunch ended and As Turquoise was on her way to her next class the remaining twenty-six students approached Turquoise. Naturally she assumed it was going to be them ripping on her like Suri did. “What do you all want?

“Listen Turquoise, we came to apologize for the way we treated you, “One of them said.

“Why the sudden change of heart?” Turquoise asked.

“Because before you came, Suri and her two underlings ran this place,” Another student said.

“So, you never hated me to begin with?” Turquoise asked.

“No of course not, Suri had us under her thumb,” Another student said.

“Now that she is gone, we thought it would be right to at least apologize for our actions,” The first student said.

“You don’t have to forgive us right away, we just wanted to try and make things right,” Another student said before the group tried to leave.

“Wait, I accept your apology, all of you,” Turquoise said.

“But why?” They asked.

“When someone wronged me, they often had no regret or even cared to say sorry, but you all came forward without me needing to, so if you are being sincere right now then I accept, to be honest I want all this hatred to end because despite all the negativities thrown at me, I grew to love this school and the friends I made in it,” Turquoise said.

“Well, we hope to see more of you in the future,” they said before leaving. With that the last of the students who hated Turquoise were taken care of meaning the whole school has now accepted her as a part of it. The day continued and for the first time in a long while she felt peace of mind. Once school ended for the day Turquoise was off to her appointment as usual and today Turquoise was about to receive some surprising news.

“Good news Turquoise, the estrogen has reshaped your body so much we can proceed to the final step soon,” The doctor said.

“And how much longer would you say that will be?” Turquoise asked.

“By my estimate, I would say about early June,” The doctor said.

“I can’t wait, “Turquoise said.

“Before you go, have you been experiencing any mood swings or suicidal thoughts? “The doctor asked.

“I have had a few mood swings here and there, but I survived,” Turquoise said.

“Any suicidal thoughts?” The Doctor asked.

“None so far, to be honest, things have been looking up lately,” Turquoise said.

“How so?” The doctor asked.

“The last major threat to my transition has been purged and things at school have taken a turn for the best because of it,” Turquoise said.

“That’s good to hear, “The doctor said before dismissing Turquoise. Turquoise left and was on her way home for the day. As soon as she got home her parents were waiting for her.

“So, what did Dr. Smith have to say?” Bullet asked.

“She said I should be ready for sex reassignment surgery by early June,” Turquoise said.

“That soon? It has only been months,” Ruby said.

“Well, she did say the amount of time varies between patients,” Turquoise said. “Personally, I feel ready for it now but who am I to argue with a medical expert?

“Doctor aside, you have a letter from someone,” Ruby said before handing it to Turquoise. Turquoise opened it and was quite surprised to see what it was.

“It’s from some company called Stardust modeling,” Turquoise said.

“Must be one of those new agencies I heard about, but why would they be sending you a letter? “Ruby asked.

“It says they saw me at the fashion design contest a few days ago and want to bring me on as a new designer for their company,” Turquoise said.

“Wow, that's quite an opportunity, are you going to take it?” Ruby asked.

“Of course not, I'm nowhere near ready for that,” Turquoise said.

“Are you sure you want to turn them down?” Bullet asked.

“No, she is right to do so, I know from personal experience that working for someone like that involves a lot of work and deadlines, Turquoise just started doing this kind of thing, so it’s better to practice more rather than dive in unprepared,” Ruby said.

“Exactly, I don’t want to burn out so quickly,” Turquoise said. Turquoise went to her room for the day to focus on her homework and her nerve gear project.
