Diablo 3: Hell's Eclipse
Interlude: Sea Travel
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLuna found that traveling with a caravan was quite interesting, as everyone had their own tasks to do when the carriages eventually made camp, as Valla and Leah, for example, hunted for extra food while Kormac and Sonya walked around the perimeter as guards. Everyone else kept their guards up while Lyndon and Li-Ming focused on their meals, something that confused Tyrael since he wasn't used to eating like a mortal, or even at all since this was likely his first time eating on his own since the villagers weren't here for force him to eat. Luna had to explain to him that mortals ate three times a day, usually at breakfast in the morning, lunch at noon, and dinner in the afternoon or night, another else was just snacking, and the drink most preferred was water, save for relaxing at an inn or tavern and having some ale. It was really interesting to teach Tyrael about mortals, especially since he now seemed to be one himself, yet Luna knew it would take some time for them to get him to fully adapt to his new life and new body.
The major thing they did while they traveled, however, was training, as Luna insisted on making sure everyone was ready for whatever dangers would be waiting for them in Caldeum, because while she and Leah would be hunting the Lord of Hell, not to mention Maghda's coven, there was plenty of things the others could help with.
With that in mind Luna had the melee individuals come at her when they stopped to rest for the afternoon, giving them a bit of practice before dinner was ready, and when they were done she made sure that the magic users practiced tapping into their various elements to master themselves and new spells. Tyrael, despite his initial reaction to such a thing, eventually joined them, which was good for Luna since he was a seasoned warrior and the two of them clashing made her work up a bit of a sweat, something she was perfectly fine with. It gave her a good chance to confirm that her new weapon was great since it stood up to the might of Tyrael's blade, even though it was clear that the former angel was getting used to how he had to use his new body, since he wasn't used to getting tired like everyone else did. It was one of many lessons Luna had to give the former angel while they traveled, as she intended to make sure he knew everything he needed to know about his body so he wasn't caught off guard in the future.
The majority of her focus, however, was on training and improving Leah's skills, and when they were a few days out of New Tristram, stopping at a camp area for the night, Luna pulled her aside for a time, causing everyone to stop what they were doing to see what she was going to teach the girl next.
"I've been working on this for a while now, but it's ready." Luna said, pulling out the wooden item she had been working on, to which Leah took the handle and found that it was actually a mix of metal, wood, and magic, she could see the runes that were on the edges, while everyone else raised their eyebrows for a moment, "With this you'll be able to make bows out of the element you're using, which will strengthen the spells and arrows you use of the same element. Let's start with a couple of basic arrows to start with, then we'll move onto something else."
Leah nodded for a moment as she focused on the focus, as Luna had described something like this to her in the past, and a few seconds later the magic ignited as she formed a flaming bow in front of her, like she was holding onto it without burning herself in the process, causing her to smile. Such a thing was followed by their usual training, where she targeted the magical targets that Luna formed with her own magic, though they were designed to disappear when they were struck and simply cancelled out the magic that Leah packed into each arrow. This meant she didn't have to worry about harming the area with an arrow, and even if she missed she knew that Luna could catch the arrow with her magic and cancel it out, yet she could see that everyone was surprised by what they were doing, like they couldn't believe what Luna was capable of. Leah wasn't even surprised by that anymore, it was generally the reaction people had to her magical powers, her body, or anything else that made her different from everyone else, and yet everyone accepted Luna for who she was.
It was that very acceptance that caused Leah to reveal the truth to those who didn't know her secret, letting everyone see her slender demon tail that she had hidden for her entire life, something her uncle had agreed with in the past, but now she didn't feel the need to hide this part of herself anymore, and she found that she was accepted in no time.
"I don't mean to pry, dear, but how did you hide this for so long?" Li-Ming asked, because so far Leah had shown them only offensive magic, which seemed to be her forte, yet at the same time she didn't think Luna would waste her magic on hiding such a thing from everyone, so she was simple curious and hoped Leah was willing to share.
"Invisible ink. Uncle Deckard used to purchase a large number of vials of it at once, and often he used half of it for studying and looking for ancient texts." Leah explained, though at the same time she pulled out one of the vials from the crate that was in her and Luna's carriage, as she didn't want to leave them behind in New Tristram, before she pulled out a brush that happened to be the item that formed a pair with the containers, "The other half ended up with me, where I would use this brush to paint my tail, hiding it from view whenever I went out, and due to rain, random water being splashed on me, and the occasional fall into the water... well, you can guess why we ordered so many at a time."
Li-Ming and the others nodded their heads to that while Luna got started on another part of Leah's training, that being the ability to tap into other elements, because while it was nice that she was so skilled with fire there were also elements that she could learn about and maybe use as effectively as fire. So while they traveled Luna had Leah make attempts on the rest of the elements, focusing on the wind that was all around them or trying to tap into the earth that was around their camps, though it came with the knowledge that Leah struggled to use those elements at first. It was as she suspected, Leah was in tune with fire, which she and Tyrael attributed to the demonic side of her blood, since Leah, too, was a Nephalem, Tyrael was sure of that fact, even though the tail worried him. Either way Luna continued to train with the others while pushing Leah to master the other elements, even though she knew it would take some time for her to do such a thing, but Leah was fine with that since it helped her master more of her magic.
Eventually they reached the harbor town that would take them across the sea and it wasn't long before they were positioned on the ship that would bring them to Gea Kul, where they would then travel to the north for a time to reach Caldeum, which would be when they would start their search for Maghda and Belial.
While they traveled on the water, however, Luna was presented with another opportunity to train Leah, where she focused on trying to manipulate both the water and occasionally the lightning, and, sure enough, she had a hard time mastering the pair of elements. Luna wasn't too surprised by that fact, because if Leah was attuned to fire to such a degree it made sense that she would have a harder time tapping into water, and lightning was one of the toughest elements for someone to use, though she suspected someone like Twilight would master such a thing in no time. Either way Luna continued to teach Leah to the best of her ability, showing her how to tap into the five elements that she knew how to wield, save for ones like the intense darkness and others that were beyond her ability, as Leah slowly figured out how to actually use the elements that she wasn't in tune with.
Luna also kept an eye out on the surrounding area, flying around the ship while they traveled across the water, and for the most part it looked like no one was interested in messing with them, so she was able to focus on training, and showing their allies a few new things, or just relaxing in the ship. The journey also gave her and Leah some time alone while they traveled, where they slept near each other while in their carriage, cuddling in the room in the ship, or just spending time together, a fact that allowed both of them to confirm that their kiss was just the first of many. It was clear that love was blooming in the two of them, even if they were still surprised by such a thing, but either was complaining, rather it was a nice thing to have while they traveled across the land, displacing Leah since she was now far from the only stable home she knew. Luna knew that once they were done with the last two Lords of Hell, and found a way to dispose of their souls so they never came back to threaten Sanctuary, they could settle down and focus on the future, and let her focus on finding a way home so she could bring Leah with her, but for the time being Luna focused on their quest and Leah's training.
Such a thing put a smile on her face as they sat on the deck of the ship one night, staring up at the stars, as both she and Leah were looking forward to what the future held in store for them when their group finally reached Caldeum, and they were eager to greet whatever might happen in the coming days.
