The Traveling Horseman
Revealing Memories Pt. 3: What a Spirit is afraid of...
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTraveler and Dhuradhan was on a strange boat. It looked simple, but Luna found it somewhat... odd. Like it shouldn't be there, shouldn't be able to keep two passenger and it shouldn't spread out the mist around them.
Traveler was on the front of the boat, holding a lantern, which had a snow white flame inside. Luna never saw anything like that. ''A lantern with a white flame inside? Maybe that's why the boat feels strange...'' The light it spread around the area, acted like a shield, as the mist quickly moved out of the boat's way.
As she looked around, she saw only mist. The sun above them couldn't break the white smoke and the lantern was the only light source. Nothing could be heard in that place. Like the mist was acting as a wall, locking away everything from the outside world.
Dhuradhan kept on clinging his head and chest. Luna could tell, he was in pain and she would never want to know how much it could hurt. She had no idea how it hurt him, but the rapid breathing and grunting just made HER feel bad. And it didn't help, that his eyes kept bleeding slowly. Though he could see something, it wasn't a clear vision. He tried to wash his face, but Traveler quickly pulled him back from the water. He said: ''You don't want to know and try that out...'' So Luna decided, it would be the best if she stays away from the water surface.
The other thing she noticed, was the changing water. If she looked above the water, it looked dirty and she could even say black. But when she looked right below her, she could clearly see her reflection. And since she was just in a memory, the water had no effect on her.
This lead to another revelation...
''Your reflection is... strange...'' Commented Traveler, as he saw Dhuradhan's reflection on the water surface.
''Who you're seeing now... is my past self...'' He answered and turned away from his reflection.
His reflection looked nearly the same. Just longer hair, same hair style and his eyes were normal. Even in the water, she could see his blue eyes. They reminded her of the night sky, but they were still light blue.
His whole expression was something else. Instead of seeing an angry human, she saw an innocent teenager. At least she thought he was a teenager, since he looked younger. And Traveler talked about the human's and humanoid's changing, as time goes on...
Luna examined the reflection closer and saw sadness behind his eyes. ''I knew! There is no creature, who becomes a monster, just to have fun! ... This... reminds me of... myself...''
Luna quickly shook her head, trying to not think about her bad past. One person already felt bad and he was next to her. Even if he was filled with hatred and became a monster... she felt sympathy. And as she remembered, she became a monster too. And now... she was one of Equestria's most important pony. An Alicorn, a Princess, who raises and lowers the moon. She's an artist at night, making beautiful constellations. She was The Guardian of the Night. She helps ponies to sleep in peace, making sure that everypony wakes up happily.
She finally realized: The ponies are happy, because of a sweet dream and a peaceful night! If they are well rested, they can happily continue living their lives! It's not just Celestia, who makes every day nice! HER work has a big role, in making the ponies happy!
And if everypony is happy... she's happy...
''Focus!'' Spoke up Dhuradhan.
Luna looked at Traveler, who was staring into the water. His mouth was open and his eyes wide. Luna flew next to him and looked at his reflection.
It wasn't his reflection, it was another memory! The woman, Floya' , was looking at him. Her disappointed expression was also filled with sadness. Luna gasped, as she recognized this kind of expression. ''Tia... I'm sorry...'' She forced back her tears, as she remembered that moment... when everything gone wrong.
Before her sister banished her to the moon, her transformation into Nightmare Moon took a few months. As her attitude changed, her sister always argued with her. And every argument ended the same way... Celestia looking at her, like the woman in Traveler's memory.
You disgust me!
The woman said and Traveler's posture shifted. Luna could tell, he felt bad for killing her.
You are a liar and a traitor. You betrayed me and used me. My thrust and everything that is me. And you just move on in life, like you have no heart. Feel lucky, I lost my own life. And the worst part is... you were my friend.
A single tear slid down on Traveler's face. The woman's words hit him pretty hard and even Luna cringed, as she heard these words.
And she said...
You empty, cold hearted and emotionless monster!
The woman started to disappeared and Traveler dropped the lantern. ''Horseman!'' Called Dhuradhan, but Traveler ignored him.
''Floya'! FLOYA'! Floya' I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! How could I kill you?! Why did I agreed with the Elders?! I'm a terrible person!'' He was clearly crying, letting the streaks of tears, flowing down on his cheeks. Then the woman disappeared. ''Floya' please! Don't leave me! I'm sorry!''
''Traveler!'' Dhuradhan started to stand up.
''FLOYAAAA'!''
Traveler dived into the water, disappearing under the surface. ''Holy fucking SHIT!'' Dhuradhan quickly summoned his scythe. He pushed it inside the water, trying to pull back up Traveler. When he pulled back his weapon, Traveler was on the under side of the blade, hanging. ''For fuck sake...'' Growled Dhuradhan and reached for Traveler.
As he was about to grab Traveler, a hand came out from the water. It grabbed his arm and a little girl popped her head out from the water. ''Why would you hurt me?'' She asked him, her voice sent shivers down Luna's spine.
The little girl had black, long hair. She wore a white cape around herself, no decoration on it. Her eyes were empty, white colored and it terrified both Luna and Dhuradhan.
''I never hurt you. Why did you hurt me?'' She asked again, while Dhuradhan tried to pull back his arm. ''Everyone hurts me, because I'm alone.'' She whined and the water started to swallow in Dhuradhan's hand. ''But you will be there for me. I have a lot of friends down there and you will not be alone too. We can play together...''
''GET AWAY FROM ME!'' Dhuradhan yelled and hit the girl on her head. He broke free from her grip and pulled back Traveler inside the boat. But the little girl pulled herself up onto the boat and pounced at Dhuradhan.
''Why do you have to leave me alone?! Why do you hurt me?!''
Dhuradhan was busy, moving his scythe back inside his shoulder. The weapon disappeared, as the girl bit down on his neck. ''AAAAAAHHHHHHH!'' He cried out and tried to shake off the girl. As he stumbled through Traveler's motionless body, he was able to reach for the lantern. He used it to hit the girl down from him.
The girl rolled off from him and he quickly positioned himself above her. He raised the lantern and started bashing her skull, repeatedly. Luna looked away from the violence. Even if she was evil and attacked him, she was just a little girl.
''DIE! DIE! DIE!'' Dhuradhan shouted and he started to slow down. His beating soon stopped and left him out of breath. He hit the dead body one last time, making sure if it's alive. After that, he threw it into the water. It was strange, the water didn't turn red from her blood.
Dhuradhan calmed himself down and turned back to Traveler. He just started to woke up and Dhuradhan approached him. Traveler blinked and his eyes widened. He quickly crawled to the side of the boat and looked deep into it.
''Floya'?!''
He was about to get back into the water, when Dhuradhan grabbed him by the collar and pushed him back. ''LET ME GO!'' Traveler yelled and tried to break free. Dhuradhan held him down with his hands and he even morphed them into his claws.
''LET ME GO OR I KILL YOU!''
As the words escaped from his mouth, Dhuradhan released him and helped him stand up. ''Oh really?! I can let you go back to your death, I don't fucking care! I even make you a staircase to walk into the water! I don't need you anymore anyways!''
He suddenly grabbed Traveler's wrist and attached a claw onto it. He moved the claws up to his own throat and let go of Traveler's hand. ''Or you can kill me right here, right now! Ending my miserable life and freeing me from this world's pain! Come on, do it!''
The two was looking at each other. Dhuradhan looked serious about his words and Traveler was in deep thoughts, gritting his teeth and considering his offer. Luna held back her breath, feeling the tension in the air.
Traveler had a hard time responding and his eyes started to dart away from Dhuradhan's. ''Look at me!'' Dhuradhan told him, but he ignored his order, still thinking. ''Look me in the fucking eye!'' Still nothing. ''I SAID LOOK AT ME WHEN YOU KILL ME!''
It was a mistake...
As Traveler was about to do something, Dhuradhan used his new ability. When Traveler made eye contact, he immediately dropped to the floor, screaming. Dhuradhan soon followed him, his eyes bleeding again.
Luna expected this to happen, so she was looking at Traveler instead. The two continued screaming on the boat, as it was bringing them to somewhere...
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Traveler was sitting on the front of the boat, looking forward. Dhuradhan was facing the other way, still grunting and growling from his bleeding eyes.
Luna watched the two, as their tears fell down. Though Dhuradhan's was blood and he actually felt angry. There was that one time, when he was looking into the water again. But Luna saw a different reflection that time...
At first, his innocent past self turned into another of his past self. That one had short hair and strong, green eyes. The reflection wore an evil grin, which spoiled his whole personality to Luna. Angry, crazy, wild and merciless. And his teeth... they were sharper than his present self's and Luna could see the Dark energy flowing through him and burning chaos in his eyes.
Dhuradhan frowned at the reflection and growled in annoyance. That's when the reflection disappeared and three other human appeared. On the right, a young adult stood. He had short, black hair and brown eyes. He wore an earring in his left earlobe, which made Luna confused. ''What kind of fashion is that?'' And what made Luna even more confused, was the bite mark on the left side of his neck. He looked kinda sick and Luna looked at Dhuradhan suspiciously.
In the middle, a short woman. She had short, blonde hair, with small brown lines in it. She had greenish blue eyes, which lead Luna to a new revelation. ''His... mother...''
And on the right, a tall, well built man. Luna assumed he was old, since he had grey and a kinda old fashioned styled hair. But it was fitting for his face, along with his brown eyes. Another revelation for Luna... ''The man on the left is his son... and his features, the beard... could he be his...'' Luna trailed off and looked back at Dhuradhan.
His features had some similarity and the small beard on their jaws had the same style. ''His father... his whole family... what did he do to them?'' Luna asked herself, when she saw their sad expression.
You did this to me... Dhuradhan stopped grunting, when his brother spoke up.
You left us alone... His parents spoke up next, making him lean towards the reflections.
The reflections changed again and showed a pretty girl. She had a beautiful, plain and white skin. Straight, blonde hair reached the middle section of her back and blue eyes sparkled in the water. She looked innocent, but Dhuradhan growled at her.
You lied to me. She started.
''And you played with me.'' Dhuradhan retorted, making Traveler to turn his wet face around. Not only his tears made his face wet, but his short visit under the water.
You used me.
''You used me first, I took my revenge. That's how the world works.'' Dhuradhan retorted again, his voice becoming deeper.
I still forgive you and I'm sorry-
''SHUT UP!''
Dhuradhan shouted and sent a beam of Dark energy at the water, making his reflections disappear. He stormed to the front of the boat, looking forward. ''Where the fuck is that bridge?! I'm sick of this shit!''
''S-soon... we will be there...'' Shivered Traveler from his wet clothes.
And like faith heard them, a shore came to view. The sand was grey and lifeless, but had a mysterious feeling. It wasn't the kind of sand that Luna used to see. It wasn't golden and radiant in the sun light.
''Fucking finally...'' Murmured Dhuradhan and placed one foot on the front of the boat. As he glanced down, he raised his middle finger at the reflection in the water. Luna didn't understand the gesture and looked at the reflection.
Luna backed away from the reflection. It showed a dark monster. It had red, glowing eyes, not like Traveler's, mind you. They were FULLY red, not just the pupils. Chains were holding down the creature's scaly body, while it was trying to break free. She couldn't see its face, as complete darkness covered his features. But somehow, she felt that the monster was laughing evilly at Dhuradhan.
The reflection gone, as the boat hit the shore. Traveler hopped out of the boat, walking next to Dhuradhan. ''What now?'' Traveler asked.
''You're journey ends here. I don't need your help anymore.'' Dhuradhan answered, looking at the bridge in front of him.
It was made from purple wood, no decoration and only two pillar at the two sides. On both pillars, a single torch illuminated the entrance with white, burning flames. It was unequivocally simple, but it was so much at the same time. ''This mysterious feeling again. Traveler, why do you even follow him to places like this? This whole thing here is uninviting!''
''You will probably not getting back from there. I go with you.'' Traveler broke the silence.
''I don't need your service anymore. You're free to go...'' Dhuradhan took one step forward and Traveler did the same.
''Tell me you have enough Light inside you. Have you tried healing your wounds?''
''I tried... no use. And yes, I still have enough Light inside me... now go!'' He was about to go, when Traveler placed a hand on his shoulder.
''Then you have to let me go with you!'' Traveler tried to convince him.
Dhuradhan slowly turned around and sighed. ''Not gonna happen...''
Luna gasped, as Dhuradhan hit Traveler on the neck, using the edges of his left palm. As Traveler leaned to the other side from the force of the hit, Dhuradhan punched him in the middle of his torso, rolling the bones in his right hand, against Traveler's muscles. As Traveler leaned forward from the blow, Dhuradhan raised his left fist and brought it down on Traveler's head, like a hammer.
Traveler soon found himself on the ground, twitching and holding his neck and torso. Dhuradhan crouched down next to him and started speaking. ''Listen up! I... go this way...'' He pointed behind him, towards the bridge. ''And you... go back with the boat!'' Traveler tried to make a sound, but his vocal cords just couldn't work from the strike to his neck. ''Yes, you heard me. Leave me the fuck alone! Do not care about me, just leave! I would have left you to die back there, but I needed your help.''
He stood up and started walking towards the bridge, only to stop a few meters away from Traveler. ''And don't worry about my life! I'll be back one day, I'm sure about that. Besides, I have to go alone. I need answers and since I can't trust anyone, I have to find the answers in my past... and stop the Leader of the Light. He is definitely not a good leader and have to be replaced...''
He turned around, while pulling out a cross from his pockets and a small cannon too. It was silvery and buffed. ''Here's your reward...'' He threw the cross next to Traveler's head, making it to be sticked out from the sand. The weapon landed in front of him, pointing at the cross and Traveler looked surprised at him. ''Before you ask, this is not mine and an Angel will not miss her little cross... as for the weapon, you'll find it useful...''
''Wha... what does he mean by... 'her'?!'' Luna couldn't think of what he must have done to that Angel...
''Farewell!''
And there went Dhuardhan, crossing the Bridge of Memories...
''... where no sinner goes in and comes back...'' Finished the quote Traveler.
He hardly stood up and picked up the cross, feeling a small presence inside it. Then he quickly put away the weapon too and made his way back to the boat. He sighed and pushed the boat back into the water. He jumped inside and started his way back to the living world...
After a few minutes of regaining his voice, he heard a shout from behind him. It was Dhuradhan's but he ignored it.
Monster...
He looked around and into the water, expecting to see Floya' , but he didn't find her...
Monster...
''I'm not.'' He stated.
Monster...
''No!''
Monster...
''Stop!''
Monster...
Traveler slid down to the bottom of the boat, moving into a fetal position and holding his head.
Monster...
Floya's voice continued and Traveler soon felt his tears falling again. He sniffed and whimpered, as memories came floating back from his past and the voice just continued repeating itself. And he soon started whispering back...
''I'm not a monster...''
Monster...
''I'm not... a monster...''
Monster...
''I'm... not... a monster...''
Monster...
''Monster...''
Monster...
''Monster...''
Monster...
''Monster...''
''Monster...''
''... monster...''
''... a monster...''
''...I... am... a monster...''
''... I'm... a monster...''
''I'm a... monster''
And all the way back, Traveler soon realized the truth. Luna was sad to see him in a state like that, taking his past to his own heart like that.
Then...
... the memory came to an end...
Author's Note
And the final part of this mini series. And now...
LISTEN UP EVERYPONY!
Since I used a LOT of things from the world I have in mind, where The Traveling Horseman and Dhuradhan In Equestria takes place, I want to ask you something!
Do you want me, to write a big lecture about this world? Explaining its history, its laws and everything about it? Including the Spirits, Elders, Gods, creatures and the whole Avatar thing? Because you pretty much found yourself in the middle of an unknown world. I keep mentioning the Light, Elders, Angels, Hell, Dark Power and every other thing from this world.
This would be an opportunity for you, to make a story! Creating your own Spirit in Equestria story or something like that. Of course, in another dimension, because I don't want to collab with others. Takes a LOT of time and I want this story to be on its own. Or else, I have to make SERIOUS changes!
So if you want, I can write a blog post, putting a link into the next authors note and stuff, then you got a head start with a new story. 'Where to place your character?' This is one of the most important questions in a story. I'm giving you the basics and instead of explaining this world in your first chapter, you can send your readers to that blog post, making your work easier.
Tell me in the comments, if you want that. I would gladly make a group for this world, so i can see your creations, fine writers! But I don't want to dive into that so early... not like I thought about and dreamed about it or anything... nope... (Okay, I totally had a good dream about that recently, as I read a story, which takes place in my created world. No ego...)
The explanation also contains the history of Dhuradhan. (In short of course, because I still have to write the Dhuradhan In Equestria : Book Two - *insert fancy name here, saying something about water* and that's where I will explain Dhuradhan's past for the readers and to the ponies. And I just spoiled that, but you probably expected that to happen...) It would contains some description about the places like in this chapter, the 'Bridge of Memories' and some other places too like: Hell, The Light and i could write a lot about those.
The thing is, this world I have in mind is really big and everything has its own legend, history and background story.
So once again: Do you want me to write that big ass explanation? Or you give no shit about my worthless attempts, to impress you?
ABOUT THIS CHAPTER:
Sorry to annoy you all again with Dhuradhan, but that's how the history goes. They had this adventure and PUFF nothing. I don't even think I will use Dhuradhan or Dhanthas anymore.
SPOILER: Except in a few chapters later, where Luna asks him those questions, that she gathered from her journey in Traveler's memory!
And I don't really know, if I should have placed a WARNING in this chapter. I mean, you probably got angry, when you saw Dhuradhan HITTING a 6-9 years old little girl. And now you fully hate my character... Even if she was evil in that place... Oh well, it's too late now and not many of you answered me about my question in the last chapter. So don't come up to me, complaining about this!
'Where is the comedy?' Yeah, that's the other thing. You see, this story is BOTH comedy and a big adventure. And as you all noticed, the ponies are the comedy in this and when Traveler meets with non-Equestrians, the story changes into an epic fight. So i try to keep my 'Balance' between comedy and battle, by jumping to one and then back to the other side. (Yes, I just made a joke about Dark and The Light and The Balance. It's kinda funny, as how many jokes I can make about Dhuradhan and he is my most precious character! I joke on my own work!)
Back to the comedy, next chapter will be random. I can't promise anything, I spent my whole week writing this three chapter and i kinda tired...
But next chapter will be random and in the later chapters, you all gonna flip your tables. Big plans... big plans...
Have a good night!
~ Adam Klapper
PS.: SPOILER! Pyromancer will be so swag in next chapter. >:-D
