Captain Shining Armor was a true knight, the model of military stoicism as he marched down the hall. The Captain’s mask fell off the instant the lock on the door clicked. Looking tired with bags under his eyes, the stallion still managed to maintain what experience told him was the necessary alert level. He pressed his back tight against the door and scanned the room for anything out of place. He could, of course, have used magic. Shining opened his mouth to rebuke the allegation, but couldn’t find the words. Exercise before bed really did help him sleep. Regardless, Cadence was not to be deterred. If Shining wouldn’t let her stand, she’d sit. “Shut up and answer the question,” she chided, followed by a long yawn.

“Agreed.”
Shining let his head rest against the plush pillows and let his mind wander back to that faithful night. “Well, if memory serves, it was before I had to walk with a limp all day, but right after Twilight gave me that manual on how to apply lubricant.” He chuckled. “I probably still have it somewhere.”
Cadence smiled and hummed, too tired to laugh. “Go on.”

“I pulled away a little so I could get a good look at you,” he said as he went through the old motions. “I stared down in your eyes as I held you tight.”
Cadence’s eyes practically sparkled as she looked into Shining’s adoring expression. Her belly was still a little swollen, but the look on her future husband’s face made her wonder if she still had one last mini-orgasm in her.

Well, that was a hell of a trip. Shining Armor, Captain of Canterlot’s Royal Guard, just wants to go to bed. Alas, his fiancé is in a mood, and she has outright nefarious means of getting what she wants. It’s a simple enough premise that I stretched out to be hella long because it was just so damn fun.
While initially part of the HPGN storyline, I ultimately decided it was distinct enough to stand on its own. So, if you like, consider it to be loosely part of the canon. This was one of those stories I’d started a while ago, maybe somewhere around 2017, stopped because of writer’s block, then returned to with a level of inspiration that surprised even me, only to forget about it entirely. Boy, did this turn out to be a long one. Once I got started, it just became so much fun to write these characters. It might sound cheezy, but I love love. The idea of two people wanting nothing more than to be together for the rest of their days is something I’ve always appreciated when depicted well.
The detachment spell was something that’s been floating at the edge of consciousness for me for a while, and this seemed like the prime chance to bring it out.
