It has been a week since I arrived in Manehattan. I spend most of my time with my cousin, my aunt and uncle and Sweetie Belle. It’s just they’re family and it makes sense that I try to be gradual about the change.
I am right now talking to my aunt and uncle. They are glad about the progress that’s been made. I then began to read the daily newspaper. Oh, how I love the little stories in each page from the opening of a new country restaurant in the city to the more serious ones like a riot in a district of Manehattan over non pony rights.
“You sure love journalism don’t you.” My aunt said noticing my interest in the stories of the newspaper.
“Yeah. ah’ve always loved the stories specially the ones about different cultures.” I said with excitement.
“You should join the local school newspaper.” My uncle suggested.
That got me nervous. Can I really show myself in another newspaper after everything I’ve done last time?
“It’s alright if you’re a bit nervous. But just because you made a mistake the last time you were in the school editing does not mean you can’t try it again.” Uncle Orange suggested.
“Yeah, I know I just want to prove myself worthy.” I spoke.
“And you can prove yourself worthy by creating a newspaper that includes information with people’s consent.” Uncle Orange said.
“I suppose that’s true.” I said I was interested in the idea.
I then went up to the local school's editing room. “Excuse me, I've been told this is where I need to go in order to find a place in the local school newspaper.” I said in my southern accent.
The mare smiled “You’ve come to the right place. We can possibly start by having you work with the printing.” She said enthusiastically.
I smiled. “I’d like that.”
We spent the night listening to Sapphire Shores music and eating some snacks but later Babs and I had to go to bed. We do after all have classes that would be starting up the next day.
I was a little nervous about the new school but hey at least I’ll have Sweetie Belle with me not to mention Babs attends too. I just woke up, still slightly nervous. Babs then put her hoof by me. “Don’t worry cuz I’ll be there.” She said in a very sweet and kind tone. She's not half bad.
We then went to have breakfast. I could see we were having apple pancakes probably to make me feel like it was home which I’ll thank them for doing that later. “Now your cousin will guide you to school and be sure to stay close.” Aunt Orange recommended.
“Don’t worry I ain’t gonna wander off.” I said trying to make them feel secure.
“Good now make sure to get to your classes as quickly as possible principle Ink Quill already got your classes together.” Uncle Orange said.
“This will be fun at a new school. I'm sure you’ll make lots of friends.” Aunt Orange said with optimism.
I smiled. The idea of making a friend or two sounds nice.
We then left and headed over to school. I can see that Babs Seed was trotting fast so I kept up. It was the city.
“I’ll meet you at lunch. Cus good luck with your classes.” Babs Seed said.
“Thanks cus.” I said back.
I then went over to the principal's office and saw the teacher. “Ah Miss Apple, your aunt and uncle said you would be transferring here. I hope you feel the most welcomed.” She said in a trottingham accent.
“Thank you miss.” I said politely.
She then gave me my schedule. I have history first, then math, then pe, then recess, then lunch, then science, then literature, and then Art, which I have always been really good at.
I went to my history class. “Alright everyone we have a new student can you please introduce yourself.” The mare asked. This setup was weird to me not having one teacher for every class but I’d get used to it.
I went up. “My name’s Applebloom. I'm from Ponyville.” I said in a cheerful tone.
“And what was it like there?” She asked.
“It was great that every year we get to make apple pies during hearth's warming and zap apple jam during the summer.” Everyone murmured at that.
“You’re a kin from the Apple Family.” A colt asked.
“Yes, the one that created apple jam.” I responded proudly.
“Cool.” The colt said interested.
I smiled and things were going nicely.
I then went to my seat and class began “Alright class today we are going to learn about the time travel spell developed by Starswirl the Bearded. Can anyone tell me how it works? The teacher asked.
I raised my hoof. “It works because the timeline is a magical very thin bearer that can easily be broken depending how far back one travels since the bearer gets stronger farther back one goes he was only able to travel back a week.” I answered.
“Very good Applebloom.” The mare praised.
I smiled. I have always loved history.
Afterwards I went to math which was very boring in my opinion just the same as usual but I knew the material so I would be alright.
I then went to my next PE class where we were required to do a lot of physical exercising like some running as well as push ups. I found the girl next to me to be very cool looking with her prim and her make up on while still in PE.
“So what's your name?” I asked.
“It’s Emerald Glow, what about yours.” She asked.
“Applebloom just moved from Ponyville.” I answered.
“Ahh the gabby gum filly.” She answered.
My ears went down. “It was that well known wasn’t it.” I answered.
“You beat city folks have gossip problems too. We try to avoid that in our newspaper you should join.” She answered.
That might actually be a good idea. I have always loved journaling and photography. Maybe I can take those skills to good use.
I then went to recess where I saw Sweetie Belle “Sweetie Belle.” I rushed over to her.
“Appleboom thank goodness I thought I’d have to have recess by myself.” She said,
“Well I can’t leave a cutie mark crusader behind.” I smiled.
She smiled back. “Come on, let's go play something.” She said,
We decided to play cops and robbers with some of the other foals. We did a good job when we were both the cop and the robbers. It was really fun.
Afterwards we went to lunch where we found Babs Seed. She told us she got recess privileges taken away for calling a name to a bully which I thought was stupid but she doesn’t mind and seems very nice.
“So how’s school going cus?” Babs asked.
“Oh it’s going great, the other kids find it cool that I’m an Apple and I even impressed my history teacher.” I said proudly.
“Well I’m glad I love history too though I like new events better.” Babs Seed said.
“Yeah, new is good.” I replied.
“Especially when it comes to music.” Babs Seed mentioned.
“Yeah Applejack always loved their country songs but I found them boring.” I answered.
“Agg country is the worst.” Sweetie Belle answered.
“So what was it like in Ponyville? I've always wanted to visit the place where zap apple jam was developed.” Babs Seed asked.
“Oh it was great we did all sorts of fun things like baking and singing to get our cutie marks.” I said happily at the thought.
“Well that does sound fun.” Bab Seed said.
“Oh it was, we were a lot of trouble makers.” Sweetie Belle said, chuckling.
“Yeah we did do a lot of stupid stuff.”
My ears then went down. “I hope Applejack forgives me.” I said.
She put her hoof on my shoulder. “I’m sure she will, I mean everyone makes mistakes.” Bab Seed said.
I smiled.
I then went to my science class where we learned a bit about ecosystems which was really cool.
I then went to my literature course which I have with Babs thank goodness. I love literature and the fact that we were reading one of my favorite books. Where the Wind Blows it’s about following your heart and forging your own destiny and I have always believed that destiny isn’t set in stone which I fully agree with.
I then went to my last class of the day which was art and I have it with Sweetie Belle. I couldn't be happier. “Alright class today you are going to choose what to draw for your first big project. Now it must be a part of the body like an eye. You can look through your books to find the right image.” The teacher said,
I was a little nervous this was more advanced than I’m used to but we can manage and it will be fun. I smiled. I do love a good challenge.
I chose to draw a cat's eye and I was making good progress on it when the teacher passed. She smiled and gave me a nod of approval which made me very happy and proud.
We then went back home after school.
“So how was your first day?” Aunt Orange asked.
I smiled. “It was nice.”
I am sitting by Bab Seed and Sweetie Belle. We’re talking about how we’re excited for the release of the new Sapphire Shores album. I finally managed to get Sweetie Belle into her music though she will always be a classical lover by heart. When we see a pony with a yellow coat, a dark red mane and tail, and pale-yellow eyes. I recognized her “Excuse me, would you mind if I sit here.” She asked politely. I could see her mane was cut short, the common style among fillies around the city. I could also see she was wearing a dark red scarf with gems on it. It looked like she made it. I was impressed.
“Did y'all make that scarf.” I asked.
She smiled “Yes, I did. I’ve always had a sense for fashion, my names Gleaming Gem.” She spoke.
“I’m Apple Bloom and this is my cousin Bab Seed, and my friend Sweetie Belle.” I spoke.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you. I heard your friend's voice at the last choir concert. She's pretty good,” The filly spoke, impressed.
“Oh, why thank you. I’ve always had a talent for music.” Sweetie Belle said with a smile.
“So where are you from.” Gleaming Gem asked.
“Ponyville.” I answered.
“Ponyville!” She said with delight. “I’ve always admired the country style with their simple yet beautiful patterns.” She said delighted.
“If you want, I can show you more about the culture.” I offered. I do love sharing culture.
“Oh, that’s very thoughtful of you.” She spoke.
“It’s nothing I like spreading culture. And by the way I love the style of Manehattean with its fancy clothes like black shiny coats and Gems on everything as well as the music. I love pop and a good rap.” I spoke.
“Well, if you want, I can show you my culture and you can teach me about yours.” She offered.
I smiled “Deal”. Perhaps I will make many friends here.
