Chapters A dragon with an interesting friendship
Chapter 1: traversing reality’s
The Saturday night was going how every other one did.
I was sitting on my couch bingeing the hobbit trilogy, I had just gotten to the part when Thorin tried to drown Smoug in molten gold. When a strange idea came to mind, smoug should be more impressive. Don’t get me wrong, the portrayal in the film was great. But I feel it wasn’t as impressive as Smoug, the last drake and embodiment of fire. I feel as if he should have been three times bigger, to dwarf all that could be compared to him to show his might. As well as being way tougher, so that his scales no matter the weapon could truly not be pierced by any weapon.
Especially not some makeshift ballista that could not have had enough draw force to pierce his hide. As these thoughts bounce back and forth through my mind I slowly drift into a deep slumber.
I awake groggily, like I woke up after a very deep sleep. I raise my head off something that feels like a bean bag but also isn’t, as I raise my head I feel something of as if my neck is somehow longer than it used to be. As I slowly open my eyes I instantly notice something severely wrong, I am not on my couch or bed. I am lying on top of a mountain of glimmering gold and as I slowly look around I see giant carved greenish black pillars, along with carved walls and ceilings of the same stone.
My mind blanks then instantly goes to the only place I know of that looks like this, Erebor, The lonely mountain. I can think of no other place that can look like this and with that realisation I slowly look down, my normal human body does not great me but the slightly glowing and red scaled chest of one of the most well known dragons in fiction. Smoug.
With that realisation I can only draw one conclusion, I am Smoug. With this thought I try to stand, it comes eerily naturally to stand on all fours with my wings/arms supporting my front. I try to speak but what comes out is not my own voice but a scarily deep voice that comes out as a rumble, Hello . I stop then instantly continue by saying one of my favourite lines in cinema, I am death I am fire .
I give a light chuckle at my immediate reaction to this situation that makes a few coins slide down the mountain of treasures. As I take a moment to collect my self, I think in my mind that this must be a wired but interesting dream. So with thought in mind I take a moment to look over my dream body, all looks the same as in the movie except I seem to be much bigger then regular Smoug. By about three times if my observations are correct, I find this odd but no odder then the situation that I am currently in.
With no other real options I decide to go to sleep to wake up back in the real world, so I Leigh back down on, technically my, pile of treasure. The instinct to burrow into the, my hoard, comes naturally so I decide to trust it. Once I’m done burrowing into the gold that for cold metal is surprisingly comfortable, I give one huff through my nostrils to clear the coins from them
And drift to sleep.
Unknown to our human turned drake, a forest springs up and slowly envelops the mountain leaving it not a short but not a long walk from the edge of the forest that will be known in the future as the everfree forest. While he sleeps through the millennium various races and countries rise. But the only one to lay claim to his mountain, it is a little known empire run by two sisters called Equestria and this fact leading to one of the most surprising friendships known to pony kind that will change many events that may come in the future and to the fate of Equestria in many cases
Until next time dear reader, it has been my pleasure.

The lore for MLP and The Hobbit may not be entirely accurate. So take my story with a grain of salt. Also feedback would be appreciated.

Chapter 2: awakening to a new world
I awoke slowly, but as I looked out at mountains of gold and pillars of stone I didn’t know whether to be surprised or not. I was still in the halls of Erebor. I give a chuff as I rise from beneath my mountain of gold, coins cascading off my scaled hide. As I swing my head from side to side I decide on my plan of action, first I shall explore the inside of Erebor, second I will find the archend stone and destroy it, third I will see what the world outside is like. Mostly to see if I am actually in the land of middle earth.
With those goals in mind I begin to move in the direction of a large entry arch from which I can explore more. As I walk through the many areas of Erebor I see many sites from the movie, I see the great forges, the mine, the hall where Thorins company tried to drown Smoug, as well as many workshops and forges. But as the self tour comes to an end I come across the doors of Erebor barred and shut. I can see moonlight coming from the battlements on either side of the gate, I am tempted to leave but first I must find the accursed rock that nearly drove Thorin mad with greed.
I turn and lumber away towards the treasury. As I arrive I realise I have no idea where to even start looking, but then I remember a trait that dragons in most fantasies are ment to have. A keen sense for treasure, with no real idea how to start it I decide to close my eyes and take a deep breath through my nose and like that my intuition tells my I caught the sent off what I’m looking for. I stalk forward hunting my pray, as the sent becomes extremely strong I notice it out of the corner of my eye. A dazzling gem, that glows with a soft white light. I know what I must do but my very nature fights against it, I take a final step forward and raise my claw ready to strike.
When suddenly a force attacks my mind, it feels as if needles are drilling into my head. I growl in pain but this won’t stop me, I bring my claw crashing down with all the force and weight behind it as I can muster. There is a moment of resistance before the stone shatters into a million pieces, a shudder runs through my body as the pressure and pain subside. As well as small quake runs through the mountain due to the force behind my blow. I take in a shuddering breath as I raise my head proud once more, regaining my composure after the terrible pain I just experienced.
I give one final glance to the pieces of the archend stone before I turn to once more travel to the gate of Erebor. I arrive at the towering gate of Erebor, the moonlight still pours in from the open battlements. I reach a clawed towards the bar keeping the gate closed, hefting it up and tossing it to the side. It tumbles and crashes to the side of me, forgetting due to my size it likely weighed several tons. This makes me pause, wondering how did the dwarves open and close the gate. I shake my head clearing those thoughts from my mind as I refocus on the task at hand.
I put my two claws to the door and slowly open it, it opens surprisingly quietly barely giving off a squeak. I have to lower my head and body significantly to get out, due to the fact my size is much larger then the original Smoug. I take a tentative step onto the bridge that crosses the river in front of the mountain, I take another which brings my head out of the mountain. I look to see the two statues of dwarves too either side of the gate, they are heavily eroded from the weather. Meaning they only look vaguely like humanoid rock shapes covered in patches of moss and vines. As I fully emerge from Erebor I stretch out all my limbs and neck, feeling satisfying pops from them. I take a deep breath of the night air, it is fresh and the sound of rustling leaves comes as a gentle breeze washes over me.
I survey my surroundings finding the mountain and semicircular shape that defines the front of the mountain, where the gate rests is the same as it is in the movie. But the sea of trees in front of me isn’t, as well as the lack of the ruins of dale or lake town. This leads me to the conclusion the this land is not middle earth, leading to the follow up question of where am I. I peer through the night into the far distance seeing more trees an a mountain ridge. I spend some time just standing there taking in the sights of the local area, but not really seeing anything interesting. I do slowly realise that the night is lifting from the land, but i can’t see the sun from my left, right or front. So I look back to the mountain, seeing rays of light begin to crest the top of the mountain. So I slowly start to scale the side of the mountain to peek over the top to get a good view of the land beyond.
As I reach near the peek of the mountain I bring my head around the side, what greets me is a great surprise. I see the edge of the forest not to far from the bottom of the mountain, I see a town near the edge of the forest, as well as Great Plains of grass. But the crowning jewel of this view is a city that seems to almost look medieval in appearance, while simultaneously being very clean and colourful. But that isn’t what grabs my attention the most it’s the great white and gold castle that seems to be perched on the side of a mountain. I want to fly over to see the sights and greet the people, but then I remember that I am a dragon. Not just any dragon but Smoug the dragon, I give a long sigh and bring my head back to the dark side of the mountain.
I look down at the long distance to the bottom of the mountain and decide that hands on experience is the best way to learn, so with that decided I jump from the side of the mountain. My wings snap out as if on instinct and catch the air, flying comes naturally to me and I slowly glide down to the bottom of the mountain. I land with a surprisingly light thud, I let out a playful chuckle that send rocks tumbling down the side of the mountain. “I must say flying is surprisingly fun”. I look once more into the distance and see storm clouds on the horizon, “l suppose I should get back to guarding my gold”. I give a chuff at that remark and the absurdity of the situation I am currently in, I turn back into the gate of Erebor. closing and barring the gate behind me.

A dragon with an interesting friendship
It was safe to say Fluttershy was having a bad day.
She had just moved to a town called Ponyville about a week ago and had helped many local animals with various injuries, but due to the fact that she was trying to help a very skittish rabbit. She was now hopelessly lost in the middle of the forest, while there was a thunderstorm raging above in the sky. But her one solace was that she had just found a cave.
As she entered the cave, subconsciously ducking her head. She wondered if she should stay near the entrance or go deeper in, the roar of thunder that was far too close for her liking. She quickly ran deeper into the deeper darkness of the cave, briefly overcoming her fear of the dark and just about everything else.
POV
I sat there, heaving for breath and my lungs burning. “it’s so scary out here, I want to go home.” there was a tremble in here voice, she was on the verge of tears. Then she noticed that she could actually see the cave around her. She looked up to find an opening in at the end of the tunnel which was letting out light. She nervously walked over, still on the verge of tears. She passed through the gap and emerged on the other side blinking rapidly, as her eyes adjusted to the bright light. She saw mountains of gold everywhere. Her jaw dropped and she just stared blankly at her new surroundings.
”what manner of creature might you be”
She instantly flopped to the ground, covered her eyes with her hooves and began to cry heavily. All the pent emotions from the new move, meeting way too many ponies and getting lost in the forest. All spilled out because of that scary voice , causing her to cry uncontrollably.
Smoug POV
I had just talked to the first living creature since turning into Smaug the dragon and now it was on the floor covering its eyes and crying. This meaning two things in his mind, one it was a sentient creature like a human, two he had no idea what to do.
So he tried the only thing he could think of. Trying to console her.
”It’s okay, you’re fine.” his voice, which sounded like death and the rumbling of an earth quake did not have the intended effect. I don’t think she even heard me.
As I thought what to say to console the, pony ?, Pegasus?. The girl, at least as far as I can tell, I brought my hand over to nudge her to see if that would get her to respond. But as soon as I touched her see clamped onto my finger, like a baby clinging to its mother’s leg. She was mumbling something I could only half make out through her tears, something about moving and being in a new place alone. Honestly it kinda sounded like my situation.
“It’s okay little one, I’m here for you” . That seemed to have actually gotten through to her, because she stopped crying heavily and instead quietly sobbed into my scales.
“Your voice is just so scary and I had to move and I had to meet so many new people and think I’m weird for not talking to them.” She sobbed into my hand.
“It’s okay, I’m here for you, just let it all out.” I said, in my softest voice possible.
After saying that I laid down and looked away, so she could let it all out in some sort of privacy. After a minute or two the sobs finally stopped, I looked over to find her curled up against my finger. I let out a soft sigh of amusement, then moved my chest in closer to hopefully keep her warm in her sleep.
Fluttershy POV
I woke slowly, holding what I assumed to be a pillow even if it felt a bit too warm and a bit too stiff to be a pillow. I try to remember last night because I remember being lost in the forest, but don’t remember going home. I found a cave, then I… found mountains of gold and a scary voice. I guess it must all been a dream because that is just ridiculous, even though the scary voice was very nice. I hope I thanked him.
So with the thoughts of last night’s dream fading from my mind, I went to start my day of animal care. But when I opened my eyes I was met with a wall of red scale. My mind went blank trying to figure out how my pillow could be scales, then my mind kicked itself into action. I scrambled up and away from the scales with a yelp of surprise, I continued to walk backwards terrified of the strangeness of my situation. I was so focused on the scales I was completely surprised when my rump bumped into something, I whirled around to see a yellow eye with a black vertical pupil, like that of a cat.
I stood there paralysed with fear, I wanted to run or even call for help , but my body wouldn’t let me do any of that. Then a voice broke me from my stupor, it rumbled like an avalanche and sounded very scary.
”Good morning.”
It was the kind voice from my dreams, at that exact moment It dawned on me that the dream from last night wasn’t a dream but reality. So as my mind raced at the implication of that, I said the only thing that came to mind “thank you”.
Smaug POV
After just saying good morning to the small pony how seemed to be terrified, in an attempt to calm her down. She responded in a way I didn’t expect.
“Thank you.”
I tried to come up for a reason why I would be thanked by a pony, that only saw my face a few seconds ago. I raised my head and turned it to look at the pony face to face.”For what.”
“For being so kind to me last night.”
“It is basic curtesy to be polite to a guest in one’s home.”
At that she began to look at her surroundings, seeing the carved walls and pillars. As well as the mountains of treasures that up the vast space. Her mouth began to slowly drop open at the sight of the large quantity of wealth on display, Not to dissimilar to last night.
“This is your home”
”Of course, there is no more fitting place for a dragon such as me to live.” as I said that I brought my body round to match up with my head and rose to my towering full height. But just as quickly brought my head back down as too not frighten her.
”But never mind that, where are my manners. I am Smaug, what might your name be.”
“My names Fluttershy.” She said in a surprisingly meek voice, the shock and general confusion of the situation dissipating to leave her more usual self in place.
“An interesting name to be certain.” it was quite the unique name, at least to me.
After my statement a moment of silence enveloped the conversation, so as the big scary dragon I decided I would break the ice.
“Fluttershy, if I may ask. What brought you to my home.”
“Well, I was trying to help an injured rabbit that kept running away. But eventually I lost it’s, then the storm started and made me lose my way. Until I eventually found a cave which lead me to your home.” As she spoke she seemed to almost shrink in on herself, as her voice also grew quieter.
You poor thing, I would offer a comforting cup of tea. But unfortunately I have none to give due to baseless misconceptions. I hoped a comforting word would help her feel a tad more comfortable in my presence, but which elicited a most unexpected response.
“I could get you some”
“A most kind offer, but I do believe it is an appropriate hour for such tasks.” She tilts her head to the side in one of the most adorable displays of confusion I have ever witnessed, though I am able to stop a from reaction showing. As to dispel her apparent confusion.
You may not have taken notice, but a considerable amount of time has past since you fell into your slumber. Eight or ten hours to be a bit more specific.” Her eyes widened at that.
“Then I need to get home quickly.” She turns around quickly as to leave then stops.
“Could you please give me some directions.”
“I can do you one better, I can show you there.” As I say that I spread my one of my wings out, to let her climb onto my back. There is some slight hesitation from her, but a quick nod of my head gets her to swiftly climb onto my back. After she gets settled I move quickly to get to the front gate. I slow down to open the gate but that is done easily and before she knows it we are in the air, circling above the tip of the mountain with the stars shining down on us.
“I am presuming you live there.” I say my head pointed down towards the town at the edge of the forest. I hear her reply of “yes” over the slight howl of wind. So with that confirmed I glide my way down towards the town. I am skimming over the tops of the trees when I say.
”Unfortunately I must leave the rest of the journey to your own wings as to not scare the townsfolk.”
“Okay. I’ll make sure to bring you that tea.”
“I would be delighted to host you as a guest again”
“Goodbye”
”Farewell” With those closing remarks, she flys off my back and I preform a tight right turn back towards my mountain. All I can think of is that I hope she does visit me again, it would get boring to just sleep all the time and she was very kind.
Until next time my dear reader, it has been my pleasure.
A dragon with an interesting friendship
My hopes came true, in their purest form. Now on every Saturday of each week she comes to me and we talk over tea, she brings the tea leaves while I bring the pot and cups. She has told me a lot about the world outside, from culture to superstitions and everything else, honestly it is quite fun to listen to it all. Even if some things sound absurd, but seriously how can there be an immortal pony ruler, how controls the sun, called Celestia. But I digress from the topic at hand.
It has been about a year since I first came here and me and Fluttershy have done a various things together. From our midnight flying session, she stays on my back for most of it, to giving each other hearth’s warming presents to each other. Honestly I thought she was going to either faint or flee in nervousness when she tried to give me my present, also no matter what anyone says a scarf for ponies is the best present for a dragon more then a thousand times their size. On another note her new necklace has drawn more than one set of eyes while she walked through town.
There is one thing that troubles me, the fact no one but her knows of my existence and if I was to appear out of nowhere. A certain town’s resident vet may be very suspicious if anyone asks any questions in her general vicinity. Though I am content with my current situation. As long as no one tries to do anything to Fluttershy or my mountain everything will be fine.
Smaug POV
I was simply relaxing when I heard the all too familiar clack of hooves on stone, I could also tell it was certainly a yellow and pink pony. The only thing was it Tuesday, at that I felt a pit form in my stomach. She sprang through the opening in the wall, Fluttershy sat there for a moment before speaking. She spoke at such a frenzied rate that I couldn’t make out a thing she was trying to say.
“Take a moment then continue.” At that she stops for a moment to gather herself before continuing.
“Surveyors are coming here in a week to see if this mountain is able to be mined”
“WHAT! I shoutout, as well as being the first time I have ever shouted. The sheer volume of my voice makes the immediate area shake for a moment, while at the same time making Fluttershy cover her ears in extreme discomfort. After seeing that I take a moment to compose myself before speaking.
I apologise for my outburst.” But as I say that I can’t feel a snarl forming on my face, because of the anger I feel boiling inside. Obviously seeing this and hoping to play cate me she says.
“Maybe you should send a letter to Celestia.” Her voice is meek like the first time we met, she is obviously scared of my snarling face. At this I compose myself before speaking.
“Yes that would be the proper course of action. If you could write and send it for me that would be greatly appreciated.” She seems confused for a moment before looking at my claws that wouldn’t be able to write if my life depended on it, then back up to my immense size that wouldn’t allow me to enter a town with a post box.
“Of course, that’s what friends are for.” Her smile beamed up to me, that smile could have melted the heart of an ice walker. I rallied my will power to ensure I didn’t l say “aww”.
“Do you have paper and pen with you or do you require me to acquire some for you.”
“No. I’ve got some right here.” As she was saying that she pulled out pencil and paper from the saddle bags she started wearing since she first brought me tea.
“Then let us begin.” I take a moment to think before beginning.
Celestia POV
Dear princess Celestia
I am Smaug, king under the mountain. I have gained word of you sending surveyors to see if my mountain home is of the worth to be mined, while I do not try to draw to conclusions. I do believe it is of bad taste to mine out someone else’s home and property. So I ask as one ruler to another, that we might have an meeting to discuss this mistake of land and property, so if you could be so kind as to meet me on the opposite side of my mountain from the town called ponyville.
In kind regards, Smaug the dragon.
Celestia had just read one of the most blatant attempts of political subterfuge she had ever seen, it is proven in the Canterlot archives that no one has owned that mountain since the establishment of Equestria. Not to mention a dragon of all things, meaning it was likely a bid to make her stop the surveyors for whatever reason. But she had a great idea, if she sent a letter back requesting that he meet her in Canterlot at 2:00pm and if he didn’t show up she could have a nice break between meetings. So since he certainly wouldn’t it would be a nice relaxing 10 minutes, it was the perfect plan.
The next day at 1:59pm
Celestia was relaxing on her balcony thanking her past self for coming up with such a wonderful idea. She was looking up at the clouds when she saw a dragon?
Smaug POV
I could still feel the residual anger from the casual denial of my request, as well as the assumption it was some political ploy. So after reassuring Fluttershy and telling how I was just going to have the meeting with her and nothing more, I set off towards Canterlot.
I flew at high altitudes until I was practically over the city then dived down to the entrance of Canterlot castle, I intentionally landed with a loud thud to announce my presence. The area I was in was a tad too small for me to properly stand, so I had to ever so slightly hunch in on myself. This did not diminish on my impressive size that dwarfed anything except the palace itself in height, I could hear and see the various guards and other assorted staff scramble for cover or to figure out what was going on at my sudden appearance. Until finally one guard how seemed to be in charge came out of the front door with many more guards in tow, they formed up to protect the gate before finally asking.
“What is your business and how are you.” I thought about the first question for the briefest of moments before answering.
”To answer your first question I am her for a meeting with your princess.” This seemed to have calmed everyone in my vicinity to a degree. I pondered on how to answer that second for a moment. I could either answer Smaug or I could say Smaug with a bunch of mostly made up titles to sound intimidating. Then promptly said screw it and went with the cooler second option.
I am Smaug the terrible, chieffest and greatest calamity of the age, burner of dale, bane of Durin’s folk, scorcher of the woodlin realm and king under the mountain. This announcement had done two things, one put the fear of god into the surrounding ponies, as well as heralding the arrival of a white Alicorn how could only be one person. Celestia.
A dragon with an interesting friendship
Celestia POV
She galloped through the castle’s corridors, hoping that her casual dismissal of what was the largest dragon she had ever seen would not end in violence or worse. As she neared the entrance to the palace after what felt like an eternity, she heard a name she would never forget.
“I am Smaug the terrible, chieffest and greatest calamity of the age, burner of Dale, bane of Durins folk, scorcher of the Woodlin realm and king under the mountain.”
That list of titles told me one thing, he was a cataclysmic threat. As I emerged from the gates of the palace, the sun did not greet me as expected. Instead I was shrouded in shadow, as I looked up to see why i shaw the face of a dragon. His eyes glared at me in what I could only presume was anger at my blatant disrespect towards him, i steeled myself for what was likely going to be one of the most important diplomatic talks in my reign.
“So you are the princess how would dare claim my mountain.” His voice rumbled like a rock slide, I cleared my throat and began what I hope was the correct response.
Smaug POV
“So you are the princess how would dare claim my mountain.”
“That would be correct.” Her honesty ever so slightly caught me by surprise.
”Tell me, what made you think my mountain was yours.” I ensured my voice was as deep and menacing as I could make it, the effect was immediate as multiple of the guards flinched at my words. As well as seeing the slightest bit of nervousness in Celestia’s eyes.
“In the Canterlot archives there is no record of anyone or anything owning that mountain for more then a thousand years.” I do know that Smaug was about 6000+ years old, so I’ll go somewhat off that.
“The bases of that assumption presumes I am younger then a thousand years. While I do not know how long my deep slumber was, my last count puts me a bit more than six millennia.” my voice is now back to my more casual tone of voice, which in its own right is still quite intimidating. But nonetheless I see Celestia’s face go blank at that. But if there is anyone as old as I say I am I need some way to explain why they would not know me.
“But do be mindful that my deep slumber could have lasted between five hundred years and five hundred millennia, but judging by the change in land and species that walk it. I would say it would be closer to five hundred millennia” she is shocked by the numbers I have told her, I can see it in her eyes. But with the experience of the timeless diplomat she is, she swiftly regains her composure.
“You may be of that age, but how can you prove you that you have not moved into that mountain recently.” I sigh at that, I really didn’t want to go down this route.
“ I do not believe you understand the curtesy I am showing you.” I bring my head down to her level and speak in my scariest voice once more.
“ the only reason you and this city has not ended in fire and brimstone, is that I have made friends with one of your ponies and I would hate to see her sadness at the death of you and untold thousands.” I wouldn’t actually do that, but she doesn’t need to know that. I see as the slightly false reality of the situation I made sets in for her.
“With that said I would hate for our first meeting to end in such a bitter manner, so I shall leave you with two things to think about. As long as no pony bothers me or my mountain, I dare say we could have a good friendship and laugh about this first encounter over tea. Lastly if your land is ever in true danger, you may call on my aid in your time of need” That was my olive branch I would offer her and hope that she would never try to call my bluff. Celestia just kind of stood there attempting to process the information she had just been given.
“Farewell” I turn to leave, but just before I fly away I here a quiet.
“Goodbye” That brings a smile to my face and I leap into the air.
I soar into the sky and breach the clouds. I sail above the clouds towards my mountain, after all I can’t keep my friend waiting. I spiral down towards the gate and swiftly open and close them behind me, as I stroll into my hoard I see my friend perched precariously atop one of the gold piles. I sneak up behind her, as quiet as a cat stalking its pray. I am but an inch from the back of her head, then a say.
“Boo!” she flails and slides down the slides down the side of the hill of gold, I laugh uncontrollably as she splutters to her feet. Gold coins falling from her hair.
“Are you alright, did she hurt you” even after scaring her she still shows such kindness, she is the greatest friend a dragon like me could ever ask for.
“Yes, huh. I am fine, all I did was have a conversation with the princess.” I stop my laughter at her words and reply with reassurance, she has a habit of worrying to much over little things. She then lowers her head and shifts her hooves nervously, I know this action well. This specific body language means she is going to ask me something she thinks is outrageous, even though I have done it many times before and will continue to do so as long as it makes her happy.
“Can you do the scary voices in a new book I just got.” To be totally honest her nervousness makes her look absolutely adorable.
“it would be my pleasure.”
2 hours and several chapters later
The plucky protagonist of this model had just snuck into a Minotaur camp be wearing a necklace that changed them into the form of a Minotaur and I could not help but voice my opinion.
“How would such a magical device even function” I was brought to this assumption by the wealth of knowledge I have gathered throughout the past year, from the books Fluttershy had left with me to stave off my boredom when she was not here. At this Fluttershy spotted reading and turned her head to look back at me.
“Those necklaces are real, but really expensive and only made at a single workshop in Canterlot.” At this new information my mind raced, if such an artifice could truly be made. I could visit her house and finally actually share a pot of tea with her, if the necklace could shrink me down to such a size. But I could hope.
”Fluttershy I would ask you a favour, that would put me in your deepest debt.” her head tilted to the side, confusion written on her face.
“I would ask you to go to Canterlot and purchase one of these necklaces for me, so I may dawn the disguise.” she stays confused for a moment, but then realises what that means and beams a smile at me that could have killed lesser dragons before saying.
“Of course, that’s what friends are for.” She is truly to kind.
2 days after the necklace was delivered
Fluttershy had dropped off the transformation necklace with Smaug and then headed home because it was getting late. She thought Smaug would show up the next day but didn’t, so she guest she would have to wait till the next usual meet up for tea. That thought was running through her head when someone nocked at the door, this was unusual but nothing to worry about except the social interaction that she had to get used to by the other ponies apparent need to interact with her. So when she opened the door she didn’t expect any surprises, she was severely mistaken.
What stood in her doorway was a stallion, nothing to unusual so far. The fact he stood nearly seven feet from hoof to head , taller than the princesses, but still not drastically weird. Neither was his deep red coat or his large wing, even for a Pegasus his size. What was weird was his yellow eyes with cat like black vertical slits, also the fact he was a pleasure on the eyes was a bonus.
“Hello Fluttershy.” his voice was very deep, but had a smoothness that made It a pleasure to listen to. Then she realised she recognised the voice and smiled her best smile.
“Hi Smaug, can I offer you a cup of tea” This made him smile, showing a set of razor sharp teeth she had grown so fond of seeing.
Until next time dear reader, it has been my pleasure.
A dragon with an interesting friendship
Smaug’s first use of the necklace as well as it could have, having tea in Fluttershy’s house was a nice change of pace even if they both agreed they liked the mountain. So now every other week they swap between the mountain and Fluttershy’s house to have tea and read stories, even if sometimes they go out to town. Where more often then not leads to him having to lead her around because of her lack of social skills and general anxiety, but that does mean she can’t say no when he buys pastries to have with there tea. Something she brings up every time he does it, once they are out of town of course. He must also mention the odd walk and helping out with an animal here and there, which has been just as enjoyable. She did also mention she has another friend called Rainbow Dash, but he has jet to me the supposedly competitive pony.
Unfortunately though they did have to cut there meeting short this time, because of some sort of celebration. But he did not mind much and so she left in a hurry, he could also not afford to think on the topic for to long. This was because for whatever reason the night air had a weird scent upon it and it was no ordinary smell, it smelt of evil and darkness. In fact it wasn’t to dissimilar to that of the arkenstone, it had that same insidious scent which was all to distinct. But more pressing is that it was getting closer, in fact it was already in the mountain. So he prepared himself for what could be a dangerous interaction, with an enemy most foul.
So what made its way through the arches that are the entrance to his hoard gave him pause, for it was a collection of what seemed to be ethereal smoke. Then in front of his eyes it started to solidify into a pony, more specifically a Alicorn. It’s fur was a black with the smallest hints of blue and it’s mane seemed to be a piece of the night sky, it also wore various pieces of armour that’s colour could be described as light blue. They started at each other for a moment before it spoke, in a distinctly feminine manner.
“It’s seems fate is on my side, for it as bestowed upon me gold and jewels to reform my kingdom and a servant that should be of the upmost usefulness.” At those words my blood began to boil in anger at the audacity of this pony and the smugness in her voice.
“do not speak to me as if I was a common beast” At this she dared to laugh.
“How could I not, when compared to my Devine grace you are nothing more than a snarling beast”
“You dare mock me. I am Smaug th-
“You dragons and your pride, whether you like it or not I will be taking your gold.” She said with the upmost smugness.
“You can take it, over my cold dead body.” I could feel the fire gathering in my chest.
“That can be arranged.” As i reared my head back to breath out my fire she launched three curved blades of magic, even though these were obviously an attack my instincts said they were of no danger. I was correct, because they simply crashed against my scales harmlessly. so I retaliated in kind, breathing out a breath of fire engulfing her in burning flames. But as the fire cleared, she stood with out injuries inside a flickering dome of energy. We both seemed surprised at our opponents lack of damage, but carried on without pause. She summed a blade of the blackest night that floated beside her, while I prepared with my claws and fangs.
She flew forward at great speed and I responded in kind, changing forward sending piles of gold flying in my wake. We met in the middle, magic blade crashing against dragons claw. Each time our weapons made contact, a shockwave would send mountains of gold flying in all directions. This stalemate lasted for two minutes, then I made an obvious swipe with my right claw. She easily dodged backwards, coming in for a lunge to my chest. But it was a faint on my part, the back swing of my hand connected hard. She was sent flying into a pillar to my right, a cloud of rock dust bursting from her landing site. But the anger I felt did not diminish in the slightest, so I gave no reprieve. I lunged forward claws out stretched, a volley of magical projectiles detonating against my head. This stopped me, but only for a moment. My claws smashed against the rock, sending shudders reverberating through the cavern. But there was one thing missing, the severe lack of an impaled pony on my claws.
“Unfortunately my draconian friend, I have a group of ponies to attend to. Bye bye.” Her voice drifted on the wind like the faintest russell of leaves. The anger inside me reached a bursting point and I roared in anger, the sheer volume causing the mountain to rumble ominously. I could not allow this, I would not allow this insult to go unpunished. Her turning into smoke act would have been perfect, if I couldn’t smell the very evil her presence left behind. So without wasting any time I followed the trail to the gate where it continued through the battlements, I burst through the gate looking for any sign of the foul creature. There was no sign of here, but I could still could catch her sent. I launched into the sky, following the trail she so kindly left behind. I tracked it to what seemed to be a abandoned castle, where I could sense her presence.
Fluttershy POV
Fluttershy and what she hoped she could call friends, finally made it the ruins and got the elements of harmony. Then they stepped outside to let Twilight focus on her magic. She was waiting with the others when she thought she heard a roar and a distant rumbling, but none of the others looked like they heard it so it must just be her anxious mind playing tricks on her. She didn’t get much time to think on this though, because they heard Twilight shout something from inside the ruin. When they rushed in they couldn’t find her, but as they looked around they saw a tower glowing with light and rushed towards it. She couldn’t help but notice that the trees were being blown like a storm was forming, but she didn’t have time to care about it.
As she and her friends got there they saw Twilight and nightmare moon, with what looked like the elements of harmony lying at her hooves. Then something completely unexpected happened, the wall and window behind nightmare moon was torn open by massive claws. They all stared in shock as a massive dragons head that was revealed behind the cloud of dust, one that looked all too familiar to Fluttershy.
“Did you think you could hide from me in this ruin of times long past” That confirmed it, it was Smaug and at this realisation she couldn’t help but blurt out.
“Smaug?”
Smaug POV
I had just found the target of my rage once more when I heard an all too familiar voice.
“Smaug?” I looked in the direction the voice had came from and saw my dearest friend Fluttershy, along with five other ponies of various different colours and races. But as was so likely to happen to her, as all the eyes in the room landed on her she tried to hide behind her main and failed. So as a friend I decided to get the attention back to the big mean dragon, in a roundabout way.
“Fluttershy, I did not expect to find you here. It is a surprise, but a pleasant one. I have business with this Alicorn, how crossed a line that I will not let her go unpunished for.”
“So this is the company that you keep, this pathetic pony is what you consider a fri-“ the Alicorn was clearly trying to annoy me, to get under my skin. It worked, it worked well. So her insult was quickly cut off by my fist bursting through the wall and sending her through the opposite one, my anger now redoubled. I turned to follow her trajectory but was stopped buy one of the ponies by Fluttershy, it is the purple unicorn.
“Wait”
“What” I snap back, the anger for the Alicorn making my composure slip. This makes the pony step back and cower slightly, but responds anyway.
“If you hold her off for a minute we can banish her” I was about to refuse, but then I saw Fluttershy. She looked at me hopefully, she believed in the words that the unicorn spoke. If she trusted this unicorn so would I.
“I will buy you as much time as you need, call my name when you want me to bring her back.” with those final departing words I left to follow my pray.
She came charging at me and I came charging at her, I thrust my right claw out in a bid to impale her. She dodges and swings her reformed sword at my head, I shift my head out of the way and she can’t bleed enough momentum to stop. Now behind me she believes she has the advantage, she is wrong. I whip my tail up, sending her flying up into the sky. I follow after her, she regains her balance on her wings just in time for me to swing my fists down onto her. I hit her, but it didn’t feel right. I look down and see she flew with the blow, she is fine and chanting a spell. She didn’t need to do that with any of her other spells, I have made a fatal error. I try to turn and fly towards her, but it is already too late. A beam of blackest night, lances towards my chest. There is no time to dodge, it pierces my chest and an unimaginable pain descends on me. The pain is more than any wound should cause, I lose control of my flight and tumble through the sky. Pain wracking through my body every second.
I land hard, throwing dust and dirt into the air. The pain stops as the dust settles and I can feel my grasp on consciousness slipping, then I hear the sound of wings and then hooves walking on grass.
“So it seems that you weren’t as mighty as you thought and your confidence was severely misplaced.” Her voice is as smug as it could possibly be, I hate it.
“I shall leave you with some final parting words, your friend shall feel ten times more pain than you.” At those simple words I feel a fire start to burn in my chest and the cool night air becomes stiflingly hot, with strength I did not know I had left I roll to my feet.
“I am Smaug the terrible” I take a step forward. She is obviously surprised that I can stand, let alone walk.
“And I promise you that you shall not touch a hair on Fluttershy’s mane.” I take another step forward. I rise to my full height, the air is now burning. Trees begin to catch fire around me. I launch an attack with speed I did not have before, my fist sends her flying into the air. I follow her trail with my eyes and see her crash through the top of the ruin, panic grips me and I rush over. I rush over just in time to see a rainbow to crash into the Alicorn, how seemed to be getting up for round two.
After the rainbow disappears and I blink the spots out of my vision, I see Fluttershy and her friends all unconscious on the ground, this worries me for a time. But then they all get up and talk amongst each other, but I do notice they are all wearing forms of jewellery that they weren’t wearing before. At that moment the sun rises and Celestia appears in front of them, the purple unicorn runs over to her and does some form of a hug. They are clearly friends, speaking of which Fluttershy finally notices me spying on them. In her usual shy fashion she quietly makes her way over.
“Smaug are you okay?” She whispers
“I am fi-.” My voice is weak, but before I can finish my words. A coughing fit starts, blood comes up and splatters the ground in front of Fluttershy. I look down and see the hole in my chest is pouring blood, my legs collapse from under me. I fall to the ground, I can hear Fluttershy shout my name. But I can’t gather the strength to lift my head and cold embrace of unconsciousness finally claims me.
Until next time dear reader, it has been my pleasure.
