Young Six’s Journey: Adventure in the Kanto Region
The Pewter City Showdown
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe next morning, The Young Six slowly awoke, the air filled with the scent of fresh food. Gallus, smelling breakfast, was the first to wake, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
“What’s that smell? It smells pretty good,” Gallus said, sniffing the air.
“Oh, good morning, Gallus! You’re just in time— I’m making breakfast!” Silverstream exclaimed excitedly.
“You… making breakfast? Since when did you start cooking?”
“Just this morning!”
Gallus facepalmed, sighing. “Looks like I’ve lost my appetite.”
“Oh, come on, Gallus, it can’t be that hard,” Silverstream said, just as the food caught on fire. She squealed, “Eek!”
“And I’m making something too!” Sandbar said, placing a bowl of salad on the table. “This will be for Yona and me.”
Shortly after, the rest of the group began waking up, stretching their limbs. The Young Six sat around the table as Silverstream served plates of fish for Smolder, Gallus, Ocellus and herself, while Sandbar passed a bowl of salad to Yona. As they and their Pokémon ate, they soon felt stuffed.
“I will say, the fish was kinda good,” Gallus admitted, crossing his arms with a small smirk.
“I’m glad you liked it!” Silverstream said, smiling happily.
Smolder finished her meal and spoke up. “So, do you think we’re ready for this gym?”
“Are you kidding? Growlithe and I will crush that gym, right Growlithe?” Gallus said, petting his Growlithe, which barked in agreement.
“Well, I say we go for it too!” Smolder said, and the rest nodded.
With their plan set in motion, the group packed their things and trekked along the path.
The Young Six arrived at Pewter City as the afternoon sun hung high in the sky. The city bustled with trainers and Pokémon alike, but their focus was clear: the Pewter City Gym. Standing tall in the middle of town, the stone building exuded strength and challenge.
Inside, they were greeted by Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader. His calm demeanor and sharp gaze immediately gave off the impression of a seasoned trainer. He crossed his arms, addressing the group.
“Welcome to the Pewter City Gym,” Brock said. “I see we have quite the group here. Are you all challenging me?”
Yona stomped a hoof. “Yona ready! Yona and Bulbasaur will crush rock Pokémon!”
Smolder smirked. “Don’t get cocky. Charmolder and I will show you how it’s done.”
Sandbar stepped forward with a grin. “And don’t forget about us. Ghastbar and I have this in the bag.”
Brock nodded. “I like your spirit. Let’s make this interesting—team battles. Two trainers per team. You may use all your Pokémon if you wish. You’ll face me and my team of Geodude and Onix.”
The Young Six exchanged excited glances before organizing themselves into pairs. Yona teamed up with Gallus, Smolder with Silverstream, and Sandbar with Ocellus.
Yona and Gallus stepped onto the battlefield first, their Pokémon—Bulbasaur and Growlithe—at the ready. Brock smiled as he tossed out his first Pokéball.
“Geodude, you’re up!” Brock called, the rock-like Pokémon appeared with a confident grunt.
“What’s that Pokémon?” Ocellus asked curiously, pointing her Pokédex at it.
Geodude, the rock Pokémon.
Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them.
The battle began as Gallus took the lead. “Growlithe, use Ember!”
The small flames hit Geodude, but the attack barely made a dent. Geodude retaliated with Tackle, hurling itself at Growlithe and sending the Fire-type sprawling.
Yona growled, stomping a hoof. “Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!”
Bulbasaur lashed out with its vines, striking Geodude hard. The attack was super effective, and after a few more strikes, Geodude fainted.
“Not bad,” Brock said, smirking. “But let’s see how you handle this. Go Onix!”
Brock’s second Pokémon, the massive rock snake Onix towered over the battlefield, roaring as it entered.
“W-woah… what is that?” Sandbar said, pointing the Pokédex.
Onix, the rock snake Pokémon.
As it grows, the stone portions of its body harden to become similar to a diamond, but colored black.
Gallus hesitated, looking up at Onix. “Uh, Growlithe, try another Ember!”
The flames barely fazed Onix, which retaliated with a powerful Tackle, sending Growlithe flying into a wall.
“Growlithe!” Gallus cried as his Pokémon fainted.
Yona clenched her jaw. “Yona not giving up! Bulbasaur, Vine Whip Onix!”
Bulbasaur struck Onix, but the towering Pokémon withstood the blow and countered with Bind, trapping Bulbasaur in its rocky coils.
“Ready to admit defeat?” Brock asked, smirking.
“No! Yona not giving up on Bulbasaur! Yona believe in Bulbasaur!” Yona shouted, stomping her hoof.
Hearing her words, Bulbasaur struggled against the Bind, its bulb glowing brightly. Using its strengthened vines, it struck Onix repeatedly, forcing it to release Bulbasaur.
“That was Growth!” Brock explained. “Your belief in Bulbasaur helped it learn a new move.”
“Bulbasaur learned a new move? Awesome! Bulbasaur, use growth again!” Yona commanded.
Bulbasaur’s bulb glowed once again, boosting its powers. With one final Vine Whip, Onix roared in pain before collapsing to the ground, unable to battle.
Brock nodded as he recalled his Pokémon. “Good work. You two make quite a team.”
Smolder and Silverstream stepped forward, their Pokémon—Charmander and Squirtle—facing Brock’s Geodude.
“Charmander, use Ember!” Smolder commanded.
The flames hit Geodude but weren’t very effective.
“Squirtle, Water Gun!” Silverstream cheered.
The powerful jet of water hit Geodude directly, and it fainted. Silverstream pumped her fist. “Yes! We got one!”
But Brock wasn’t fazed. “Good work, but let’s see how you handle Onix. Go!”
Onix roared onto the field, its massive form looming over Squirtle and Charmander.
“Squirtle, Water Gun again!” Silverstream shouted.
The water hit Onix, but it wasn’t enough to bring it down. Onix retaliated with a Tackle, swinging its tail at Squirtle, making impact, but recovered quickly.
Smolder growled. “Charmander, use Scratch!”
Charmander leaped at Onix, clawing at its rocky exterior, but the attack barely scratched it. Onix responded with Bind, trapping Charmander and knocking it out.
Smolder growled, grabbing her Pokéball. “Spikoran, let’s go!”
Smolder through her Pokéball, her Nidoran appeared on the battlefield, readying itself.
“A Nidoran? Well, let’s see what you got! Onix, Tackle!”
Onix charged at the two Pokémon, but dodged quickly.
“Spikoran, Poison Sting!” Smolder commanded. A purple need struck Onix, but it looked at it unfazed.
“Onix, use Bide!” Brock commanded, a red aura surrounding Onix.
“Quickly, before it attacks!” Smolder exclaimed, as Silverstream nodded. “Use Poison Sting!”
“Use water gun!” Silverstream commanded Squirtle.
The purple needle and a jet of water struck Onix, but it didn’t flinch. Suddenly, Onix opened its mouth, shooting a white beam towards the two Pokémon, impacting them in a big cloud of smoke. Smolder and Silverstream eyes widened, waiting for the smoke to settle. Once the smoke cleared, Nidoran was unable to battle, however, Squirtle shielded itself with its shell, popping right back out.
“Squirtle, are you able to go on?”
“Squirtle!” It said, nodding at Silverstream.
“Great! Now, jump at Onix and hit it with your shell!” Silverstream commanded, seeing Squirtle jump high in the air, using its shell to hit Onix, knocking it back slightly. “Now, Water Gun!”
Squirtle shot out a jet of water at the Onix, making it roar in pain as it fell to the ground, unable to battle.
“Squirtle, you did it!” Silverstream cheered excitedly, hugging Squirtle.
Brock smiled. “Most impressive, I see great things from you two.”
The final team stepped forward. Sandbar’s Gastly floated ominously, while Ocellus’s Caterpie crawled determinedly onto the field.
“You ready for this, Ocellus?” Sandbar asked.
Ocellus nodded. “Let’s do our best!”
Brock started with Geodude again. Sandbar took the lead. “Ghastbar, use Lick!”
Gastly’s ghostly tongue struck Geodude, paralyzing it. Ocellus followed up. “Silky Snap, String Shot!”
The sticky threads wrapped around Geodude, slowing it down. But Geodude fought back with a Tackle, knocking Caterpie out instantly.
Ocellus gasped. “Silky Snap!”
“Don’t worry, we’ve got this!” Sandbar said. “Ghastbar, Hypnosis!”
Gastly put Geodude to sleep, giving Sandbar time to finish it off with Lick. But then came Onix.
Brock didn’t waste time. “Onix, Rock Throw!”
The rocks struck Gastly, who couldn’t dodge in time. Sandbar watched in dismay as his Gastly fainted, leaving him with two Pokémon.
“Alright… let’s go Featherbar!” Sandbar shouted, summoning his Pidgey to the battlefield.
“A Pidgey? Looks like you need to study Pokémon typing. Onix, knock that Pidgey out of the air!”
Onix roared, swinging its massive rock tail at Pidgey. Although being agile, Pidgey wasn’t quick enough to dodge, causing it to faint.
Sandbar looked at his Pidgey in dismay, looking at his last Pokéball, sighing in defeat. “I only have a Caterpie left… and seeing what that Geodude did with Silky Snap… I’m going to have to forfeit.”
Brock nodded in understanding. “It’s probably for the best, but you two did quite well.”
After the battles, Brock addressed the Young Six. “You all did well. Even though some of you lost, I see potential in all of you. For Yona and Silverstream’s victories, I award the Boulder Badge.”
He handed the badges to Yona and Silverstream. Gallus crossed his arms, grumbling. “That’s not fair. It was a team battle!”
Brock shook his head. “Gym rules are strict. To earn a badge, all of a trainer’s Pokémon must still be standing. But you can train here as long as you’d like.”
“So… what should Yona and I do then?” Silverstream asked curiously.
“Yeah, what Yona and Silverstream do now?” Yona asked, stomping her hoof.
“You two can head to the next gym. Head to Cerulean City, there you will face Misty, or at least her sisters.” Brock said to the two.
“Us two, alone? But this was supposed to be a group adventure.” Silverstream said, looking at her friends.
Yona and Silverstream looked at their badges, unsure about continuing without their friends.
“Don’t worry, we’ll catch up with you,” Sandbar assured them. “We’ll train hard and beat Brock this time.”
“Well… alright, Yona and I will wait for you guys at the Cerulean gym,” Silverstream said, looking at Yona. “Come on Yona, let’s get to Cerulean City.”
Yona nodded, as the two waved goodbye to their friends.
And so, Yona and Silverstream left the Gym, their spirts high, despite having to leave their friends behind for now. The two venture on, not knowing what will come next.
As the journey continues…
