No Choice Left But To...

Adagio had wandered off with no future plans after that last interaction with the two.

‘Those bitches,’ She thought while clenching her fists. ‘I bet they have no plans about now and ended up dead, serves them right.’

She checked her phone and it was about 6:50. She groaned, she’d been so mad about what happened she didn’t realise she lost track of time, plus her legs were now getting sore (her legs were literally killing her).

Adagio was always the strategist in the trio, she always came up with the ideas and the other two would just act it out with her.

It came to her that she would really need to start working, so she headed to the public library, used the computers to write a resume. She obviously lied on her resume, not much but she did it to seem more ordinary. Just when she thought she was finished, she proofread and realised she forgot to add the experience and references.

She had skipped over them before and thought she’d fill them in later, but now it is later.
For experience, she’d barely lifted a finger her whole life, the three had always charmed people with their voices to get what they wanted, she’d never thought that one day it’ll all be suddenly taken away in a blink of an eye. She filled in some stuff she found off of Google such as cooking, cleaning, organisation and compter skills. She was proud of her progress so far, but there was just one more thing to add.

Reference, it was just another awful reminder that she had nobody in life who could vouch for her. Due to her hot headed self she lost her two ‘sisters’, of course she couldn’t take all the blame since they didn’t even try to fight it. She quietly growled.

Adagio had googled ‘Is having reference optional?’ The response was too complicated for her to comprehend, again, she’s never had to deal with this before.

She saw a sign near the computers, where she was, and it was about asking librarians for help with resumes. Adagio quietly called out to a nearby librarian.

“Hi, so this is my first time writing a resume and I just want to know if adding a reference was optional?” She asked, putting on her fake sweet voice.

The librarian was wearing a beige cardigan with a purple shawl along with platform boots, Adagio was questioned by her fashion sense.

“Oh hello sweetie,” The librarian whispered back warmly. “You know what, don’t even worry about it, I can vouch for you honey.”

Adagio was stunned, she’s never experienced such kind words in a long time, maybe like her whole life. Her heart was touched but her face wasn’t showing it, you would say she has a slightly shocked face.

“Really? Thanks.” She replied in her still fake honey filled voice. She was happy, but she wasn’t really able to show it much.

“I know how hard it is for you young folk, sometimes it’s best to just spread kindness, it makes the world a much better place.” She added, putting a hand on Adagios’ shoulder gently. She flinched slightly at the warm embrace.

“Okay pumpkin, I’ll put in my phone number in there for you, along with my name.” She took her hand off Adagios’ shoulder, bent down and reached both of her hands to the keyboard and began typing.

“There, all set my dear.” She exclaimed with a thumbs up.

“Amethyst Maresbury..” Adagio quietly said. “It’s a beautiful name.” She was being genuine, nobody had ever been this kind to her, maybe she can let her guard down once in a while.

“Awh, thank you love.” She replied, getting up from position and walking towards her cart. “Good luck angel!” Amethyst quietly yelled as she pushed her trolley full of books towards a bookshelf in the far end.

Right, ‘good luck’ on the job search, she had completely forgotten all about that part. She printed four copies and went back on the computers, on the search. After about what felt like an eternity on a job search website, she found one for a waitressing job not too far from where she was. Just in case, she jotted down into a piece of paper three waitressing jobs.

During this whole thing, Adagio had found a place to charge her phone using a box full of chargers which basically said ‘free chargers’ so now her phone was at a moderate percentage. She was ready to apply now.

Her first attempt was a real dud. It turns out that the employer was one of the CHS students' parents and heard of the whole ordeal, he barely let Adagio talk. She was ready to snap back at him but she decided to be the bigger person and walk off instead.

She clenched her fists as she walked out and sat on a nearby bench. ‘This is why I can’t be here in peace with these… Humans. Not one of them has self control.’ She realised the hypocrisy in her thoughts, didn’t she just leave the two just last night?

Whatever, they were probably lost without her leading them. She checked her phone and it was 12:50. She hadn’t slept in so long since that night.

She huffed angrily, scowled at the nearby passers and crossed her arms while slouching back, she didn’t care what anyone thought of her anymore, her life practically ended when those six girls took away the sirens magic. She stood up, she wasn’t going to let those bozos get the satisfaction of her not doing anything to fight back and she wasn’t going to give up her dignity.

She walked and continued her path.

Second try wasn’t so far going well, but Adagio wanted nothing to do with it since she saw a CHS student working there, she knew it was too good to be true. Though it was going quite swimmingly, a tiny itty bitty part of her brain was telling her to give up, she didn’t listen to it.

Third times a charm, am I right? She hesitated a bit before entering a cafe, decorated in a quite aesthetically pleasing way. She chuckled and walked towards a lady behind a counter. She had cute two toned pink curls with a miniature red bow on the left side of her hair with a spring green skin tone.

“Hi, I’m looking to apply for a job. Where’s the manager?” Adagio asked.

“You’re looking at her!” The supposed manager exclaimed, putting her hands on her hips. “Can I see your resume?” She put out a hand and Adagio handed her the piece of paper.

The manager looked at the resume, eyes following the words on the piece of paper and then she suddenly looked up and down at Adagio, perhaps judging her.

Adagio was already getting defensive but she didn’t want to spoil her chances, so she kept her cool. The manager put the resume away from her face and put a hand to her chin, in a cartoony sorta way.

“We could get you started today.. We are hiring too.” She said looking around for something or perhaps, someone. “Ah! Cotton Sky, just the girl I’m looking for.” She motions for a girl with purple three toned fluffy hair, up in what seemed to be a messy bun with a dark blue hairpiece on, and her skin tone being light blue to come over.

“What do you need, Florina Tart? I kinda got my hands full.” She replied in a soft yet annoyed tone, all the while carrying two plates on both hands.

“Adagio is looking to apply for a job here. Do we have any available positions?” Florina asked. But then Adagio thought, hey, isn’t she the manager here?

“Aren’t you the manager here? You’re supposed to keep up with all this stuff.” Cotton scolded gently as if she'd read her mind. “But yeah, we do need another waitress, we’re running short since they all keep quitting.” She turned her head to Adagio while going through the counter and putting the dishes in the sink.

“So what do ya say? You gon’ take the job or nay?” Florina turned to Adagio, making strong eye contact. Adagio was relieved to hear that she still had hope, though she replied back calmly, she added a lil hint of excitement in her words for good measure.

“Oh my gosh, thanks a lot!” Adagio was faking her high levels of enthusiasm.

“Don’t get ya hopes up too high, we still have to do an interview to see if you’re a really good fit.” She noted. “I have lots of spare time on my hands, so we can start it right now, lemme set up a table.”

She arranged a table for her and Adagio to sit on, away from the others. It was tranquil and she was starting to feel confident that it’ll all go well.

“So, why do you want to work here? I know, I know, it sounds intimidating but it’s my duty as a manager to know who I’m hiring.”

Adagio didn’t think of it as intimidating at all, she knew intimidating, and that wasn’t it. She rehearsed what she was gonna say, she’s seen these types of things in movies so she was very well prepared. She answered swiftly and casually.

“Well, I’m a hard worker, like headstrong, and I have the skills needed for this position.” Expecting more questions, Adagio was surprised to see Florina already grabbing a job application sheet.

“Aren’t you going to ask me more interview questions?” She asked while cocking her head.

“Oh, no I don’t need to, you already seem like a perfect fit! Plus, we are eager to have new people come and join us.” She explained then she moved the piece of paper to infront of Adagio, handing her a pen. “Just sign here then it's official! Oh, and we also need to get you a uniform.”

Adagio forgot about the uniform, she icked at the sound of it. She turned her head around to look at the other workers, the overly pastel and frilly maid-like uniform that seemed like a perverted prepubescent boy designed, she shivered in disgust (not too obvious) as she quickly turned her head back to the eager woman in front of her, she then reminded herself why she was here.

Florina sighed, though Adagio was trying hard to not show her true colours, the manager caught on anyway. “Look pumpkin,” She reached out her hand towards Adagio but she just moved it away quickly. Florina, assuming her love language was definitely not touch, kept her hand to herself. “You look an awful lot young to start working full time,” She checked her watch. “And.. Shouldn’t you be in school by now?”

Shoot! Adagio had completely missed that detail, it had slipped her mind. Quickly though, she came up with a good enough excuse. “My school had a day off today, so I decided to not waste it.”

She knew she couldn’t keep using this excuse all the time, maybe she’d have to enrol back to Canterlot High, she fluttered at the thought, but then, “Heh.. I bet Aria and that bimbo hadn’t gotten this far yet.” She swallowed a quick chuckle.

A “Mhm..” could be heard from the manager as she inspected the young girl suspiciously. “Sunshower Raindrops!” She called over a young adult with lemon skin and straight cyan hair with choppy bangs.

Sunshower instantly rushed over and that's when Adagio got a closer look. She had an athletic build and unlike the other girls she wore no makeup at all, this kind of turned Adagio on.

“Keep it together Adagio, you do NOT like girls.” She thought to herself and quickly shook her head to snap back from her trance.

“Could you help train our newest recruit, Adagio.” Florida gestured towards Adagio. “Also, could you get her a uniform?” Adagio winced, forgetting about the wretched uniform, that damn uniform…

Sunshower ran so fast into another room and came out at such high speed that Adagio was impressed. “Here you go, Adagio!” She handed her new uniform and Adagio chuckled nervously. Never in her thousands of years of being in this miserable human world has she ever dreamed of resorting to such desperate measures that it would cost her dignity.

She was guided towards a bathroom and went inside and changed into her hideous uniform that she’d now have to get used to. She got out of one of the cubicles and checked herself out in the mirror. “Hm.. It wasn’t half as bad as I thought once I put it on me. I think I could make this work.” The way her hair and voluptuous body type contrasted with the nature of the uniform, she thought herself pretty fine. She made some poses in the mirror before flinching as Sunshower walked in.

“Oh! good, you're finished.” She exclaimed, analyzing Adagio. “Okay, now we can get started! Here, I got you a bag to put your casual clothes in.” She held up a jute bag.

“Thanks.”

After work finished, Adagio realised the hard way that people literally don’t get paid everyday, instead, the payment is weekly. Of course Adagio was really disappointed by this newfound fact but learned to suck it up. She wasn’t a siren anymore, now, she was just a mere human, paying to live a normal life.

Suddenly, reality hit her hard when she realised she should’ve planned ahead, she hadn’t thought of a place to sleep. She could go to a homeless shelter but Aria had her and Sonata kicked out of them all but one, and that one was not open. Still, she could maybe enter in one of those many homeless shelters since her, Aria and Sonata split up, and technically, it was Aria causing those fights, not her.

And with that plan in mind, Adagio was set off to the first homeless shelter they’d been to since the Battle of the Bands. It was 6pm yet it was getting dark and she’s watched too many true crime documenteries to know she’d get molested if she were to walk two kilometres to the most ghetto side of Canterlot City, so she took the bus. She didn’t pay the bus fare, suiting to her personality, and the bus driver didn’t even seem to mind it all, considering the time of day.

Long story short, she was allowed to enter in the premises just as long as she didn’t cause fights, like she would ever do that.

She found someplace to sleep and everything was settled, yet there was still something in the back of her mind, making her feel incomplete and unfulfilled, like something was missing, though like always, she brushed it off and pretended to ignore it.

Right now, she was sure Aria and Sonata were on the streets of Canterlot City pathetically begging for loose change, she quietly chuckled, amused at the thought of her ex- so called siren-sisters throwing away their dignity for the cost of living.

Her amusement was soon cut short as she realised she had to be thinking more rationally. She has a part time job, good, but she wasn’t going to work at a cafe for the rest of her life, she was going to need a good paying and stable job someday, and one way to get that was to get a PhD and one way to get that was to go to school. She shivered at the thought, but the other thought of her working minimum wage for the rest of her miserable life, not being able to buy the things she wants dominated the other.

She was internally debating whether she should go to CHS or some other Canterlot City school. She for some (stoopid) reason decided to settle with CHS (to go with the storyline, lolsies. I’m not giving any reasoning towards it).

The next day rolls around and Adagio is set off to CHS, to actually get a proper education, not to mind control a whole school again, especially considering the loss of her charms.

Lets just hope this doesn’t end badly.
